When Danny woke up his side was aching and his head felt like it was being slit open. Not only that but his core pulsed angrily in a constant rhythm. He moved his hand, it didn't feel like his own. He felt very warm compared to when he normally woke up, courtesy of having an ice core. Something was wrong.
Danny cracked open his eyes to see streaks of sunlight splaying across the wall directly in front of him. A wall that was definitely not his. His eyes shot open as all of yesterday's events came flooding back into his mind. Getting shot down, Batman, overshadowing Red Robin, the bullet, Hood… He sat up so fast that all of the blood rushed away from his, no, Tim's head.
"Ugh, what's going on, Phantom?" Tim groaned. Even in his own head it sounded like he just woke up as well, startled awake probably. Danny didn't respond. Instead, he quickly tossed off the covers that had been tangled around Tim's body. They tumbled down onto the floor with a light thud. They were too warm anyway.
Danny scanned his eyes over Tim's body. They were still wearing the pants that they put on yesterday, but the shirt was new. It looked three sizes too big for Tim's tiny frame. Danny quickly pulled up the gray shirt to see wrappings all around their side. There didn't seem to be much blood showing on the bandage.
He tentatively reached down to stroke it over the covering. He winced slightly at the pain and pulled his hand back. 'Thank goodness he's okay' Danny sighed. The halfa then glanced around the room, and over to the window which had its blinds closed, a bit of light was peaking through some of the broken slats. It was morning.
His gaze eventually landed on the only door in the room. Underneath there was light peeking out. Either daylight or a room light, Danny was not sure. "We're still in Jason's apartment," Tim commented. He sounded a little more alert now.
"He bandaged us up."Danny muttered, staring at the door thoughtfully, almost as if trying to see if Jason was on the other side.
"Yeah, he did… Phantom, are you okay?"
He still didn't take his eyes off the door. "Dude, you're the one that was shot! I should be asking you that." He whisper-yelled throwing his hand to the side.
Danny could feel Tim roll his eyes. "We have the same body Phantom, we both got shot. And it seems like you were way more affected by it than I was."
Suddenly there was a crash that sounded like someone dropping a pan or dish on the ground. Danny froze and stared at the door. He heard some muddled grumbles and saw a shadow pass under the door. But nothing more.
He felt Tim's amusement "Looks like Jay dropped something."
"Maybe we should go out and talk to him," Danny said quietly. "We need to figure out how this is going to work. Maybe he will help us."
Tim was surprised. "Woah, Phantom. Earlier you were all freaking out, we shouldn't trust this guy. If you touch me I'm going to bite you, kind of reactions. Now you want to go out and talk to him and ask for help?"
Danny raised an eyebrow. "It was a very stressful day. And what other choice do we have? He also tried to murder you, as you said before. So I had a right to not trust him. But at the moment, he helped us. And unless you have the ability to fly and haven't told me we can't jump out the window to get out of here."
"Not that I'm disagreeing with you Phantom, we should definitely talk this out, and running is getting us nowhere. Just remember, from what we have experienced with Jason he is kind of… unstable."
Danny nodded. 'And if he tries to hurt you I'll rip his throat out.' He muttered in his head. He felt Tim immediately get uneasy and spike with surprise. It seemed like he heard that.
Danny slowly stood up from the bed. The corners of his vision went dark for a second as he adjusted. He cautiously padded over to the door and listened for a second before turning the handle.
The door opened with a soft click. It wasn't locked. The bedroom was at the end of a short hallway. To the left, there was another door. Danny assumed it was a bathroom, and at the end the hall opened up into a larger room. Probably where he had talked with Jason last night. He couldn't see anyone but he could hear another person somewhere in the apartment.
They slowly made their way to the end of the hallway and Danny stuck his head around the corner only to see Jason no longer wearing any gear standing there staring at him. He was holding a spoon in one hand and stirring something in a saucepan on the stove. Glancing up at Danny for a second. "There you are sleeping beauties." He looked back at the pan. "About time you got up."
Danny slowly stepped out the rest of the way into the room, watching Jason warily. Even though Jason was acting very nonchalant his shoulders were tense. Either it was because he was expecting Danny to do something or because he was stressed.
"You fixed Tim." Danny stated pulling on the shirt, making sure it was still covering the bandages.
Jason stirred whatever was in the pot a bit longer. "That I did, Tim-Tom."
Danny let out a surprised bark of laughter. "Tim-Tom?" He asked incredulously.
Jason shrugged. "It was that or Phan-Tim."
"You're right, I like Tim-Tom more." Danny chuckled in spite of himself. He was kind of surprised that he felt comfortable enough to laugh around the man so soon after what happened the night before.
It seemed the Red Hood's shoulders lost their tension and that made Danny feel better. He came out here ready for a fight but instead, the man started bantering and joking with them. He also didn't have any aggression coming off of him, It made Danny feel safer. Not that he was going to trust this guy immediately.
"What's he cooking?" Tim asked.
Danny nodded and decided to voice his other's question. "Whatcha making?" Danny leaned forward but kept a safe distance.
"Mac'n Cheese" Jason stated, he paused for a moment before continuing as if thinking something over. "I don't know if you eat. But Timbit there definitely does." He pointed the spoon at them. "kid is like sixty pounds soaking wet."
"Mac'n cheese? At this hour?"
Danny smiled slightly. "It's never too early for mac'n cheese."
)-(
When Phantom walked fully around the corner Jason could feel apprehension all over him. Like he was wound up and ready to spring. So Jason decided to do one of the things he does best. Banter. It always helped defuse situations when he used to be… well, when he used to be Robin.
Jason started serving up their breakfast into two bowls. "So… yesterday you were pretty much trying to bite my hand off." He paused waiting to see if there was a reaction. Tim- no Phantom just raised an eyebrow. "What changed?"
Phantom watched for a second as Jason placed the two bowls on the small kitchen table on opposite ends. Even though it is not that far away from each other, it was as far as they could get, and Jason wanted to give him his space. The kid eyed the chair for a moment as Jason sat down waiting for an answer.
Phantom looked over Jason again who had no weapons on him at the moment and sighed before sitting down. "Okay, number one. Tim had directly told me that you had tried to kill him once when you walked into that warehouse. Which is a big no-no and I would like to talk about that later." The kid narrowed his eyes before continuing. "You also shot a bunch of those men. Who, honestly a lot of them probably deserved to be shot…" He trailed off.
Phantom stared down at the food, not touching it just yet. He was probably waiting for Jason to take a bite first. "Why would I help heal Tim, only to poison you the next day?" Jason asked.
The kid shrugged but made no move to eat just yet. Jason slowly picked up his fork and took a bite and raised his eyebrow expectantly. Phantom smirked and pierced himself some noodles on the end of his fork and put them in his -Tim's?- mouth.
The look on Phantom's face read -There, you happy now? I ate the stupid noodle- and almost made Jason laugh. But the conversation they were having was important. Phantom put down the fork again looking back at Jason. Jason would need to make sure he ate some more after this.
"Well… It had been a really really long day for me. So much had happened and my core was on overdrive." He pressed his hand to his chest. "All I could really fall back on would have been well… My base instincts I guess? Not sure how to explain that. But my Obsession was extremely strong and overpowering when it comes to some circumstances." He sighed and ran his hand over his face and Jason waited patiently for him to continue.
"First I have to listen to almost a whole day of how much some people hate me and want me dead. Then the moment I get out, I get shot out of the sky and shoved in a cage." He chuckled dryly. Jason was sure his eyes flashed green for a moment but he wasn't sure. Phantom certainly seemed to notice something and it strangely made his -aura?- slightly calmer.
"But then of course when I got out, I kinda overshadowed Tim here to escape." Phantom sounded embarrassed. "And at that time like my afterlife always does to me and screw everything up. Now I can't leave Tim's body and I'm stuck in here with him." He pinched his forehead. "Then I get kidnapped AGAIN. And well, you showed up and you know what happened there." He gestured vaguely in Jason's direction.
"It's just… I was stressed, it was a lot in one day." He stared Jason in the eyes again. "But still. If you try and hurt or kill Tim again. I won't hesitate to fight back." He had a bit of a growl in his voice. His eyes flashed a brighter green than before like when Jason was mad at something. He could feel the protectiveness and the feeling around him in his very bones, of -Touch him and you're dead, and I can do that, too-
Jason leaned back in his chair. "Wouldn't dream of it, kid."

Thank you everyone so much for all of your love and support on this story, you're comments are always so nice and inspiring and they help me so much!
There is a bit of a tension jump in this chapter. And I hope it wasn't too drastic. One of the things that I would like to point out is that ghosts can read emotions and how people are acting. Danny would probably feel safer around Jason. Anyway. I really hope that no one is mad about it. I am so exited to write more for this fic and them getting along more is kind of important. :D
