"Just tell me." Naruto complains, whining to Hinata as the two walk down a side street through the village.
"That defeats the purpose of a surprise, Sakura's going to be mad at me for you even finding out."
"Just tell her I made you tell me." Shooting a smile at her
"You did!" Hinata laughs "You all but cornered me in the store demanding what I was buying stuff for." Hinata stops, having reached the next stop on her list. "Now are you going to follow me in here while I buy groceries or?"
"What are you shopping for?"
"None of your business Naruto-kun."
"Oh so I'm Naruto-kun now, you hardly call me that anymore." Hinata turns from him, she had dropped the honorific feeling comfortable with him. Only using it when he made her feel nervous.
"Yes, you're Naruto-kun now, because I'm annoyed with you." Picking up the basket, putting random items in it as they go.
"I'll stop being annoying if you tell me what I wanna know, ya know." Naruto turns, backing her against a soda display, taking the basket from her hand. "Come on Hinata." He smiles down at her.
"Fine, fine. Sakura got it in her head you need a surprise party. Something about how you mentioned never having a birthday party growing up. I volunteered to help, so I'm doing some shopping for her. Can you please just act surprised when you walk into Ichiraku's on your birthday?"
"Let me help you finish shopping?"
"But it's for your birthday, you shouldn't shop for your own birthday."
"I would let you finish, ya know, but I don't think anyone wants to eat mayo and cabbage." Naruto says, laughing while looking down in the basket.
"Naruto!" It now being Hinata's turn to whine
"Nope, I'm staying, anyway why are you buying food if we're going to Ichiraku's?"
"You see, my family and I eat food each day and you have to buy that food."
"Well come on then." Turning and walking further into the store. "Can't have you starving before my party." The smile flashing across his face caused Hinata's heart to stutter.
The two made their way through the store, checking items off Hinata's list as they went. Naruto holding both her groceries and the bag from earlier. He insisted on carrying the bags and walking her back home.
"Now am I going to get to see you wearing one of those cute party hats I saw in there?" Naruto asks, rocking back and forth on his heels outside Hinata's home.
"Only if you will." She smiles back at him, reaching for the bags, their fingers brushing. Hinata thought she must be reading into things too much thinking that his hand lingered against hers.
"I think you could talk me into it. Say some nice things and I'll wear it." Taking a step closer.
"Oh, well, I mean" Hinata's face going red
"I'm kidding Hinata, you know I'd do anything for you." He steps back, turning "I'll see ya there."
Hinata walks into the courtyard, Hanabi laughing on the ground in front of her.
