Chapter Three TAG

Dotty looked over the top of her book as Amanda said hello and then scurried upstairs. She could hear her daughter talking to the boys about getting packed up to go over to their dad's for the weekend. Dotty sighed and rolled her eyes. She will prolly tell me that she has to work this weekend. Dotty put her book down and went to the kitchen to get herself a cup of tea. She could hear the shower going so she decided to give Amanda some time before going up there and asking her about her weekend.

After about ten minutes Dotty couldn't hold it in anymore. Her curiosity was taking over. She walked upstairs and found Amanda throwing dresses on her bed.

"Darling, what in the world is going on?"

Amanda stuck her head out of the closet "Oh hello Mother. I have a premier to go to tonight for work and there is one particular dress I need….well I wanted to wear. It's the black velvet one with the pearl buttons down the back?"

Dotty laughed "Oh sweetheart, that one is in my closet. I took it to the cleaners with a few of mine. I'll go get it for you."

Amanda stood outside of the closet and sighed "Oh thank you Mother! I really wanted to wear that one! I have to get ready. Are the boys all ready for Joe? He should be here any minute to get them."

Dotty walked down to her room and collected the black dress for her daughter. She looked at the dress and wondered if there was really a premier or was this a date. By the look at how frazzled Amanda looked Dotty had her suspicion that it was in fact a date. She handed Amanda the dress and was about to ask her about the premier when the doorbell rang.

"I'll get it. That must be Joe. You finish getting ready dear and then you can tell me all about the premier you are going to." She didn't see Amanda roll her eyes and make a face.

Dotty went to the front door and there was a delivery man standing there with a beautiful bouquet of roses.

"Yes, well hello! What beautiful flowers!"

The man smiled at her and said "These are for Amanda King, does she live here?"

Dotty clasped her hands together and laughed "Oh yes! That's my daughter!"

The man handed the bouquet to Dotty and said goodbye. Dotty walked into the kitchen where the boys were sitting at the counter eating a snack.

"Whoa Grandma! Where did the flowers come from?'

Dotty smiled and set them on the counter "They are for your mother. I wonder if there is a card?"

She searched the bouquet and found a small card. She opened it up and inside were the words.

A -Looking forward to opening night. We'll take it from there. -L

Dotty grinned and put the card back in the flowers. She knew that tonight her daughter was going on a date. She wouldn't press her for any more information. At least not tonight. She would let Amanda have some fun…for now.
