When I first saw the comment 'there are no good harem stories' I thought well duh. But it got me thinking. And I thought of a premise. Then I thought of how a couple of conversations might go. Then I wrote those conversations down. After that, I realised that those conversations needed the scene set. Finally, two weeks later I'd written the whole thing!
I hadn't expected to do so. It's actually quite unlike me to see a project like this through to its conclusion, much less for me to end up publishing it publicly. Apparently, I was bitten by a writing bug.
When I first wrote down my ideas, I labelled the file 'GHS' for Good Harem Story. It was only later, after I had decided on the three girls, did I realise that GHS can also stand for Ginny, Hermione, Susan. I was in awe at the size of my own intellect, which is why the title still uses that acronym (although switched around).
What I hoped to achieve here, is to create a reasonable harem story, in which the
characters are acting self-consistently. It's not supposed to be titillating. Nor is it supposed to be a romantic fantasy, where dozens of girls fall in love with our main character. The three girls all have different motivations that I tried to keep them faithful to.
Ginny loves Harry, Hermione is his friend, and Susan is a stranger.
Ginny does it for Harry, Hermione does it for the world and Susan does it for revenge.
The harem (a word which does not appear outside of this note) is a solution to their problems and desires. Using a ritual is a little cliched, but I really tried to hammer home the negative side-effects of doing what they did, by keeping the harem as a source of conflict. I gave them a happy ending, because I'm a total sap, but I hope the reader will realise that there would continue to be conflict between the girls.
This is my first written work and I think I will try to write more in the future. I've had a couple of ideas about what I could write, but they'll probably need a little more time on the back burner first.
That being said, as it is my first work, there's probably lots of room for improvement in all sorts of aspects.
Perhaps I'll write out a short epilogue later on, but for now I'll just say. Thanks for reading!
