October 4th - 23:50, the news about the attack on the Ultranationalists' HQ in Ukraine and the disappearance of the Russian Delegation are flooding the airwaves since last night. But as of the moment, Soap is back in action and joins the debrief and planning.
BBC News: No new developments on the attack of a Charity Worldwide Headquarters in Odessa, Ukraine. As the cameras and all electronic devices and systems in the area have been destroyed by an electrical overload, Ukranian authorities say.
Rook: Alright! Looks like Ridley and Red Coat came through.
With the good news out of the way, now for the regularly scheduled programming, i.e. the bad, but predicted, news.
BBC News: The Russian Delegation never arrived in Hamburg for the peace summit. With its whereabouts currently unknown, no one is certain what this means for the peace treaty.
Soap: Looks like Makarov just played his next hand.
Price: If he puts himself back on the grid, he wants it to be known.
Rook: Guess the war's back on. U.S. Spec Ops is gonna love this.
Soap: So where do we start hunting?
Yuri: Africa. Makarov's been using an "African Coalition" of terrorists, pirates and sailors from Al-Shabaab and Boko Haram to move shipments into Sierra Leone. From there, they go towards Morocco, and into Spain.
Soap: He's moving north.
Price: Right towards Her Majesty's doorstep.
Rook: Short version of the intel we got? Nice.
Price: What's the cargo?
Yuri: I don't know, but it's important to him.
Price: Then I want it.
Soap: We can use the river to get in close. There's a factory in the camp where the store the shipments. The African Coalition's been waging genocide and other war crimes in the highlands for months. They'll be everywhere.
Rook: That and the involvement of personnel from foreign relief NGOs (nongovernmental organization) in the mess. I can shed some light for U.S. Spec Ops, if we come across some of their drawing boards there.
Price: Makarov wouldn't let this travel lightly if it didn't serve a greater purpose. And chances are the bastard will be there personally to see things off. If he's back on the grid, then so are we.
The mission kicks off with Price, Soap, Yuri and Rook emerging from the river near the village/AO wearing civilian clothes with Kevlar Vests underneath, cotton civilian gloves, Molle Lightweight Tactical Battle Harnesses and battle belts in colors brown, green, black and white. Their primary weapons are suppressed Dragunov SVD DMRs, with customized AK-105 Assault Rifles as their secondary weapons.
But Rook's secondary is a customized PKP Pecheneg with a PK-AS Red Dot Sight and a ZenitCo Perst-4 Green Visible/IR Tactical Laser on the right side of the railed barrel, as he believes that every combat team needs a support gunner, regardless of the tactics. All sponsored by the RL PMC, with Nikolai waiting to extract the team in one hour.
Back On The Grid
October 5th, 2016
Yuri
Russian Loyalist PMC, Task Force 141 (Disavowed)
25 Miles from Sherbro, Sierra Leone
The joint task force clears hostile patrols in their way, stops small executions, and avoids large gatherings committing genocide, even if they want to intervene. After sneaking around, the factory is in sight, so Price splits the team.
Price: Right. Soap and I will advance. Yuri, Rook, you're on overwatch. Get into position on this tower and cover us.
Yuri kills the hostile sniper on the hostile tower.
Rook: Assault Team, hold. Two man team approaching, five meters from you.
pop pop*
Rook: Another one from the west. 20 meters.
pop pop*
Rook: Three man team. 50 meters north.
pop*
Rook: Triple kill, nicely done. Assault Team, you're clear. We'll keep an eye on you.
Price: Moving.
Soap: Moving. Ready.
Price: Breaching now.
Rook spots for Yuri on the gun, killing three foot patrols, one of them being a triple collateral kill. With the road clear, Price and Soap breach and clear the factory, only to find the place empty.
Nikolai believes that Makarov and his cargo moved to the Coalition's headquarters at the center of town. But before moving on, loud voices start going off.
Price: We're moving there now.
Soap: Heads up, we've got company.
African Coalition TL: (in Krio) They fell for it! Move in and kill them!
Price: We're compromised! Switch to your auto weapons! Yuri, Rook, rally on me!
Rook spots a flanking team moving on them. So he sets up a grenade trip wire.
Rook: Yuri, down the ladder. I'll cover.
Yuri: I'm down. Covering, go.
On the way to the top of the tower, the terrorists spotted and avoided the trap. But they did not realize that Rook purposely made it obvious and already has them right where he wants them.
Yuri: They see the wire.
Rook: Not smart enough.
pop*
boom*
Rook: Rook takes a squad of pawns.
Yuri: Well played.
Now with their AKs and PKP, the JTF (joint task force) cut through Al-Shabaab and Boko Haram ambushers. With a platoon sized force moving in, Yuri seizes a gun truck with a DShK HMG (heavy machine gun) and thins the herd with the others covering and spotting for him.
The African Coalition counters this with mortar fire that destroys the pickup. Soap helps Yuri up while Rook tails behind to cover their retreat.
A clothesline from Soap on a poor, running bastard and an escape from a firestorm later, they reach and slot the mortar team. From their tower, Yuri commandeers the artillery to finish off the enemy platoon.
Now it is a race against time as the chopper carrying Makarov's cargo could arrive at any moment. So they push through another part of the village full of hostile response teams en route to the HQ.
Along the way, Rook finds and hides a GPS (Global Positioning System) marker in two communications outposts full of drawing and planning boards, and paper communiqué. To him, this is new ground and he wants to learn more about their methods.
Now in the HQ, the team needs to get to its command center: the town's church. It gets harder now that the Coalition is in full force because an MI-17 arrives, possibly to move Makarov and/or his shipment.
Price, Soap and Yuri rush through the defenses and reach the church while Rook covers their advance. With the whole base clear, the operators breach and take out three terrorists and one hyena.
Price: They're getting away with the cargo!
Rook: Whoa! Take cover!
They try to shoot the bird down, but its three machine gunners pin them down in the church until they escape from their effective range.
Price: Damn! Nikolai, the shipment is gone. We missed our window.
Nikolai: What about Makarov?
Price: Must've done a runner. Just get us out of here.
Soap and Rook check the crates in the LZ but, they're all empty.
Soap: Empty. What do you think Makarov was after?
Price: We'll ask the bastard when we find him.
While waiting for exfil, Rook spots and tags three more low tech comms offices in the base. From them, he learns that the Al-Shabaab and Boko Haram leaders of the African Coalition have used letters, maps and bulletins to avoid being technologically detected.
With that, he believes Delta Force will have a great time hunting these HVTs (High Value Target), just like old times back in the horn of Africa. He personally can't wait to get airborne so he can share with Metal Team.
