Chapter 24: The Final Path Is Clear! Traverse Victory Road!

Morning came. And thus, everyone got together for breakfast.

Michael - "Well guys. This is it. From here, it's just Victory Road that stands between us and the Indigo Plateau. May the best trainer win."

Mikey - "Here here."

Twilight - "And regardless of what happens at the league, we're all still friends."

Ruby - "Cheers!"

Everyone - "Cheers!"

Soon breakfast was done, the dishes were cleaned up put away, and everyone made sure they didn't leave anything behind before leaving the house. Michael then pressed a button by the stairs leading to the front door. Everyone as the vacation home went back into its capsule.

Akira - "Remind me to tell mom the capsule home was a complete success."

Michael - "I will Akira."

Delia - "You all take care ok."

Jeanne - "We will Aunt Delia. You all take care too."

Red - "We will as well. See you all at the Indigo Plateau."

Michael and the party then set off for the Indigo Plateau. Along the way, they stopped in Viridian City cause Michael wanted to have a quick word with Giovanni about who was gonna represent Team Rocket on Team Pokémon. Michael met up with Giovanni in the Pokémon Center while the others went to make sure their supplies were fully stocked.

Michael - "Sorry for not talking with you about this before Giovanni."

Giovanni - "Not a problem Michael. I'll admit I did need time anyway to decide on who I was gonna send to you."

Michael - "And your decision?"

Giovanni - "I'll send you one of my lieutenants in Domino, along with four grunts in Jessie, James, Cassidy, and Birch."

Michael chopped Giovanni over the head.

Giovanni - "Ow! What was that for?!"

Michael - "His name's Butch! Get it right!"

(Author's Note: I always hated that joke. Got tired of Butch's name being mispronounced after a few times.)

Giovanni - "Ok, ok."

After some more talking and planning, the two of them finally had a plan in place. While Giovanni returned to Team Rocket HQ to get things in order, Michael returned to the rest of the party.

Michael - "Everything ready to go?"

Twilight - "Yes."

Soon the party left Viridian City and went west onto Route 22. They then reached the badge check gate for Victory Road, which across all of Route 23.

Pokémon League Staff - "Let me confirm that you are qualified to challenge the Pokémon League. So! Let us examine the Gym Badges you gathered from Kanto."

He then checked the badges of those that WERE taking part in the league.

Pokémon League Staff - "Pewter City's Boulder Badge! Cerulean City's Cascade Badge! Vermillion City's Thunder Badge! Celadon City's Rainbow Badge! Fuchsia City's Soul Badge! Saffron City's Marsh Badge! Cinnabar Island's Volcano Badge! And... Viridian City's Earth Badge!"

The league staff member then moved away from the doors.

Pokémon League Staff - "Very well! Trainers, you've all indeed collected the eight badges of Kanto! Demonstrate the power that brought you all here and go for glory!"

With that, everyone took their first step onto Victory Road.

Ruby - "Man. I know I don't have aura powers like Michael. But just the feel of this place..."

Yang - "Yeah. Only the toughest of Trainers can take on this place with little to no worry."

Twilight - "And with how many people our group has, we should get through this place no problem."

Michael - "Don't be so quick to say that Twilight. You never know what's gonna happen in a Pokémon battle."

Clair - "Michael's right. We need to be prepared for anything."

Twilight - "You're right..."

While walking through Victory Road, the group came across a pair of Exeggcute. Michael was gonna catch one. As for the other...

Twilight - "You can have this one Fluttershy."

Fluttershy - "You sure Twilight?"

Twilight - "Yeah, I have enough Psychic-Types for now."

Fluttershy - "Ok then."

Michael handed Fluttershy an Ultra Ball. Then the duo walked forward and threw them at the Exeggcute. The Ultra Balls hit them and sucked them inside.

One shake.

Two shakes.

Three shakes.

Michael and Fluttershy walked over and picked up their new catches.

Michael/Fluttershy - "Alright! We just caught an Exeggcute!"

Michael sent his Exeggcute home to his mom, while Fluttershy brought out hers.

Fluttershy - "I wonder which version of Exeggutor I'm gonna get?"

Ruby - "Only one way to find out."

Fluttershy brought out a Leaf Stone and used it on her Exeggcute. To everyone shock however, it evolved into Alolan Exeggutor.

Twilight - "So glad I passed on the Exeggcute now."

Fluttershy - "So the moveset's gonna be very different, huh?"

Michael - "Yep."

Fluttershy - "What's the best move set you would give to my Exeggutor Michael?"

Michael - "Well even though Alolan Exeggutor traded in 10 of their speed stat for attack stat, both forms are still mainly special attackers. So, for Alolan Exeggutor here, Energy Ball and Dragon Pulse for stab, along with Dragon Pulse covering a weakness, as well as Flamethrower and Sludge Bomb for extended type weaknesses."

Fluttershy - "Ah I see. Switching from Psychic to Dragon switches around the Ice and Bug weaknesses. I also lose a Fire weakness, but the Ghost and Dark weaknesses get swapped with Dragon and Fairy."

Michael - "Hence why your Alolan Exeggutor is gonna have the move set I recommended. Alolan Exeggutor covers 4 of her 6 weaknesses with this move set here. As for the other two, Poison and Flying, I'm sure your other Pokémon can cover them."

Twilight - "Just look at Michael's all starter team. Sure, Brionne hasn't evolved yet. But once she does, this team will be a powerhouse."

Mikey - "What do you mean by that Twilight?"

Twilight - "Simple. Bring out the team Michael."

Michael brought out Swampert, Empoleon, Delphox, Greninja, Incineroar, and Brionne.

Brionne - "What did you need us for Michael?"

Michael - "To help prove Twilight's point."

Delphox - "And what point is that?"

Twilight - "That even though Brionne hasn't evolved yet, the rest of you cover a lot of types with your move sets, something that other trainers have failed at numerous times."

Kronii - "How does that work?"

Michael - "May I Twilight?"

Twilight - "Go right ahead Michael. This kind of strategy was entirely your idea after all."

Gura - "So then Michael. Can you explain what Twilight was talking about?"

Michael - "Of course. Now then. Most trainers go with the strategy of making their Pokémon use a couple of high-power moves and status moves. However, that strategy fails most of the time due to insane stamina costs for a strategy like that, thus putting themselves and their Pokémon in a dire situation."

Calli - "And how is your strategy different from that?"

Michael - "By striking at the opponent before they have a chance to strike back at all. Cause a status condition, lower their stats, anything like that. And by using moves of a lower power, the chances for that increase."

John - "Then is that why you're using moves like Waterfall and Flamethrower instead of Hydro Pump and Fire Blast?"

Michael - "Yes. Moves like the latter two have too many risks to them. So, I'll happily stay with the lower power options instead."

Clair - "What about Type coverage?"

Michael - "That's simple as well. Just look at your Pokémon's move set and see what Types each attacking move they know is strong against. Let's take Swampert for example. He already has a stab move for his two types in Waterfall and Earthquake, both of which cover Fire and Rock, along with Ground and Electric. That's four types covered already. Then you have his 4x Weakness to Grass, which is covered by Ice Beam. Ice Beam also covers Flying and Dragon. That brings the total to seven. And finally he knows Body Slam, which cover Normal, Rock, Ice, Steel, and Dark. That's twelve. A good 2/3rds of the entire type chart covered."

Ina - "That's pretty incredible Swampert."

Swampert - "Thank you Ina."

Michael - "Here. I've made a chart to understand it better. I made sure to include Primarina's final move set once Brionne evolves."

Michael's Starter Team Type Coverage:

Bae - "Wow that's a hell of a type chart."

Michael - "I know right. As you all can see, besides Water and Fairy, which are covered by just Delphox and Empoleon respectively, the other sixteen types are all covered by AT LEAST two team members."

Michael then suddenly realized something.

Michael - "Fluttershy? Isn't Exeggutor your seventh Pokémon?"

Fluttershy - "Yes, she is. But I had Tracie take my Pinsir back home to my mom and brother for me. Sorry for not saying anything."

Michael - "It's ok. Surprised it took me this long to realize it."

Everyone else chuckled at the oversight.

Michael - "Anyway let's continue."

Soon the party was on their way again. While walking through the cave on Route 23, they encountered a Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan.

Clair - "Congrats Michael. You've now seen every Pokémon across all of Kanto."

Michael - "Thanks Clair. I just know that Professor Oak's gonna be super happy with this."

The party made their way out of the cave and took a break to rest their feet for a bit. Suddenly Michael's Dragonair came out of her Poké Ball.

Michael - "What's up girl?"

Dragonair - "I wanna do some training."

Michael - "Alright then."

Ruby - "Wait up Michael. Pawniard and I want to join as well."

Michael - "Sure thing Ruby."

Michael and Ruby led their Pokémon to a field a good bit away from camp. They then quickly got into Dragonair and Pawniard's training. Thirty minutes later, Michael and Ruby returned to camp alone.

Clair - "Welcome back you two. Where's Dragonair amd Pawniard?"

Michael whistled. Suddenly a creature fell from the sky and landed next to Michael. The smoke cleared to reveal a Dragonite and Bisharp.

Twilight - "Dragonair and Pawniard evolved?!"

Michael - "Yeah. They were full of energy during the training, that they evolved a bit into it. So, we decided to make sure they had control over their new power. Now then. Is everyone rested up and ready to continue?"

Party - "Ready!"

The minicamp was cleaned up and the party continued on their way. After a bit more of walking, they finally made it to their destination.

Michael - "Here we are guys. Welcome to the Indigo Plateau."
