Perched on the side of the bed, Amy pulled the blanket around Levi. "Are you excited for tomorrow?"
"Am I really going to have my own room?"
"There's plenty of rooms at the new house, so you'll have your own room. Uncle Sheldon, Leonard, Raj, and Howard are all there now, painting your room orange, just like you wanted it to be."
Levi shifted on the pillows. "Is Theo's room green?"
Amy nodded, "It is. The plan for tomorrow is you'll go to school and Uncle Sheldon and I are going to move as much as we can while you're at school. I'll pick you up like I always do, except we'll go to the new house. Everyone is going to come over for pizza. You can play with Halley and Michael in the backyard or show them your new room."
"Okay," the six-year-old smiled at his aunt. "Is Uncle Sheldon going to say good night when he gets home?"
"I'll make sure he does. But he might not be home for a while, so don't try staying up for him. Good night." Amy leaned down, kissing the boy's forehead. "I love you." Levi was silent, as he was every night when Amy and Sheldon said this at bedtime. Stopping at the foot of the bed, Amy peered over the side of the crib to confirm Theo was soundly sleeping.
"Levi," Sheldon quietly said the next morning. "You ready to get up for school?" Stepping into the room, he found the bed empty. He poked his head back into the hallway, checking if his nephew was in the bathroom. The door was open and the light was off, concern rising in the physicist as to where the kindergartener might be. That was when he noticed the pillow missing from the bed. "Levi?" he called out, louder.
"I'm right here, Uncle Sheldon," a small voice rose from the floor on the opposite side of the bed.
Sheldon leaned over the bed, seeing how comfortable Levi appeared with a pillow and blanket, curled up on the floor. "Are you hiding? Do you want to help me get Theo dressed?" Sheldon was already reaching into the crib and setting Theo on the bed to change his diaper. Levi shook his head and began to pull clothes from the dresser. That was when Sheldon noticed the wet spot in the middle of the bed. "Did you spill something on your bed?" Again, Levi shook his head, so Sheldon dropped the topic. Sheldon ushered the boys into the kitchen once they were dressed for the day. They found bowls of cereal waiting for them, courtesy of Amy, who was finishing preparing Levi's lunch for school. "I think Levi had an accident last night," Sheldon whispered to his wife.
"What?" She looked up at him.
"Come with me." Amy followed her husband to the boys' room at the end of the hallway. The physicist flipped the comforter, revealing the wet spot he felt earlier. "I asked him if he spilled something and he said no. He was on the floor when I came in to get him ready for school. I didn't find the wet spot until I was getting Theo changed."
Amy bent over to inspect the spot on the bed, "Yep, he definitely had an accident. It happens. Let's not make a big deal out of it. He's probably embarrassed. I was going to wash all the bedding when we get to the house. I can have these sheets washed and on his bed before he gets home from school."
"You really think we shouldn't mention it to him?"
"Yeah. He's about to move for the second time in less than three months. He's probably just nervous. Maybe we make sure he doesn't drink a lot after dinner and double check he uses the bathroom before going to bed," suggested the neurobiologist.
"You know, Leonard wet the bed until he was a teenager. Should I ask him for suggestions if this happens again?"
Having sat on the bed, Amy grasped Sheldon's hand. "No. It was one accident. We don't need to tell our friends about it. That will only embarrass him more if one of them says something." Amy noticed the time on the clock on the wall, "I gotta get Levi to school. Do you want to come with us?"
Amy turned the car into the driveway of their new house, putting the car in park, she looked over her shoulder at Levi in the backseat, "Do you remember where your room is?" She knew he knew where his room was from their many visits to the house over the past few weeks.
"Uh-huh," the boy had himself unbuckled and the door open before Amy had done the same for herself.
She followed him into the house, finding Sheldon following Theo up the stairs. "He's been going up and down them since you left to get Levi. I think we need to get baby gates for the stairs; he's still unsure about them and I don't want him to try going up or down without one of us."
"I'll leave that up to you. I'm going to see what Levi thinks of his room," Amy stepped around her younger nephew mid-way up the stairs. Levi was laying in the middle of his bed when Amy entered his room, "What do you think? Do you like your room?"
"It's perfect. And I don't have to share with Theo. When are Halley and Michael coming so they can see my room? Can Uncle Sheldon fix the swing set so I can play on it?"
Amy smiled, watching Levi explore his room, adjusting his toys to his liking. "You'll have to ask him about that," she chuckled under her breath when he ran from the room to find her husband, "I didn't mean you had to ask him right this minute."
The alarm began to ring at six-fifteen the next morning, prompting Amy's groans. "Really, Sheldon?"
"Yes, Amy. Being in a new house will not cause me to change my Saturday morning routine. I'm going to go downstairs, pour myself a bowl of cereal, and watch Dr. Who. You can go back to sleep. I'll listen for Theo so he doesn't try to go down the stairs on his own." Sheldon exited the master bedroom, planning to check on each of his nephews before continuing downstairs. His trip was cut short when he peeked into his elder nephew's bedroom and found his bed empty for the second morning in a row. "Levi?" He whispered. Not getting a response, he clicked on the light on the bedside table. A low glow spread over the room, which Sheldon could see was empty. "Amy!" he called out.
Panicked, Amy didn't stop to put on her glasses before racing into the hallway. "What's wrong?"
"Levi's not in his room. I saw his bed was empty and thought maybe he had had another accident and was on the floor, but he's not there," Sheldon's heart was racing, watching Amy make the same inspection of Levi's room he'd done moments earlier.
"You check downstairs. I'll check the bathroom." After checking the bathroom, Amy looked in Theo's room. "Sheldon," she yelled into the hallway. "He's in here." She stood in the doorway when Sheldon raced up the stairs, stopping behind her. Levi was curled up in Theo's new bed with his little brother.
"Why is he in here? All he's talked about for the past month is having his own room."
Amy looked back at her husband, "I don't know, but we know where he is. He's safe and asleep. I'm going back to bed. Enjoy your Dr. Who."
Returning upstairs when his show ended, Sheldon checked on the boys again, finding them awake and quietly playing in Theo's room, and joined them. "Good morning. How did you two sleep last night?"
"I slept in Theo's bed. He was lonely. He's never been alone at night before."
"It scared me a little when you weren't in your room this morning," Sheldon thought of how to approach this, suspecting Levi was the one who was lonely and not Theo. "You have really good ears because I didn't hear him. Do you think it would be better if the two of you shared a room while you get used to being in the new house?"
Levi nodded, "Yeah, I think he would like that. But not all the time. I still want my own room."
"Of course. I remember how scary it was for me when your mom and I stopped sharing a room. I would have been okay still sharing, but it was nice to have my own space. Aunt Amy and I can work on moving your bed into his room so you don't have to share his bed. When he's ready to be alone at night, we can move your bed back into your room."
