I do not own Hetalia, okay? I know it's a long story so far, but I thank all of you for reading so far. Honestly one of the best things of my day is when I see that you read it and even better for kudos, reviews, faves, alerts and so on. So yeah. Anyway, enough of this A/N, on with the fic!
Arthur and Alistor walked into the dining room where Francis had set out the plates for everyone and Ivan and Alfred were sitting the twins down and Katyusha was buckling Charlotte into a high chair. "You can keep that shirt if you like Alistor," Francis said simply as he looked at the monstrosity that Alfred had given him.
"Charlotte had spit up on his shirt and well, one of mine would not fit. I think you complained that one was a little too big anyway, so I figured it was the best we had for my brother in that situation." Arthur said, knowing that Alfred would be annoyed by Francis giving it away and knowing his true thoughts about it. It may have been a gag gift, but he knew Alfred a lot of thought of into gifts, even the gag gifts.
"Thanks." Alistor said as he sat down in between Francis and Matthew and smiled nervously. These were the few members of the family who he felt the safest with. The other side there was Lucille who was sitting beside Nikita who was sitting beside Alfred who had Dimitri sitting beside him then Ivan who was looking over at Alistor with a skeptical glance.
"Sorry for what Charlotte did." Matthew said simply while he ate the pancakes.
"It's my fault." Alistor sighed. "She's just a baby after all, I should have known it could have happened." He looked around at Alfred who seemed to be warming up to his presence, but Ivan still looked at him with a dark glance. He didn't know much about Alistor but had known that there was a large rift between him and Arthur for years and did not know the full details of it. He was worried of trouble that might be caused. Sensing this that he might have to build a bridge as he could feel more hostility from Ivan than he did Arthur, who while seeming annoyed was a little more sympathetic to his brother knowing his plight and what he wanted to do. "So, Ivan, ummmm…." He gulped looking for something to bring up. "Seems the kids really like their Christmas gifts." There, safe topic. He thought.
"Indeed." Ivan replied wiping his mouth of the excess syrup and noticing Dimitri had much the same issue, motioned to him to wipe syrup off himself.
"I can't wait to hatch out my dino!" Dimitri said speaking up with his joy of the gift.
"Well, you must be really excited about it," Ivan said looking at his son.
"Yeah! It's a dino I can take care of." Dimitri said.
"I'll hatch mine first!" Nikita added.
"Not uh" Dimitri sassed back.
"Geesh, you're usually so shy around new people Dimitri," Alfred laughed. "And it's Christmas, don't be so mean with your brother."
"You see Alistor, even though they are adopted, Dimitri and Nikita act much like their parents. Madame Katyusha had told me everything about Ivan's childhood and that he was quite the shy little boy himself." Francis explained noticing Ivan look away with a blush.
"Oh Vanya, you know it's true you were." Katyusha said. "I have been so amazed how much Dimitri and Nikita are like their fathers." She gave Charlotte a bottle. "I told them both that everything lined up so the twins would have the perfect fathers."
"Well, I am sure you would do a good job with the wee ones." Alistor said, hoping this would ease Ivan up on him, understanding that he would be protective of his children.
"Thank you for your confidence." Ivan said.
"I'm all done Papa!" Dimitri said. "Can I start hatching my egg?"
"Not before I do!" Nikita said jumping up as Alfred sprung into action, ready to catch the plate she bumped.
"Niki!" Alfred said. "Wait up. You almost dropped your plate all over your grandpas' floor."
"Sorry." Nikita said.
"Just because you were good this year for Father Christmas doesn't mean he's not watching for next year." Alistor said.
"That is correct." Ivan said. "Not to mention you still have Ded Moroz visiting. I don't think he would be too happy with that…." He smiled slightly at Alistor as Nikita sat back down, took the plate from Alfred and set it down properly, sitting with her hands closed together tightly.
"I'll be good." Nikita whispered.
"She's just like wee ol Alfred…." Alistor said. "Amazing, even though they are adopted…." He looked at Katyusha who then nodded back to him. "Like your sister says, even though they are not related by blood, they are your children through and through. It's like you have said Artie, you wished Alfred has a child just like him…." At this Alfred looked at Arthur annoyed while Ivan laughed.
"Whatever." Alfred rolled his eyes at his father. "Come on you two, if you put your plates in the sink nicely, then we'll start hatching the eggs."
"Okay." Dimitri and Nikita said as they took the plates and followed Alfred to the kitchen.
Meanwhile, Natalya woke up to find Toris holding onto her tightly. Looking at the clock it was rather later than she usually got up, but it had been a long night. Feliks had indeed went all out to make sure that while he was staying with them, they were going to have a very Polish Christmas. Toris seemed happy to be meeting back up with a friend of his after they had not seen each other in a very long time, but his very loud and obnoxious personality is what bothered Natalya. He never did anything really wrong though, so she couldn't say much. Even the tradition of breaking one of the ornaments was not done with one of the ones they had gotten, but one he had bought for himself when he made Toris go out and do the shopping for what was needed. But he had managed everything for the traditions so much so that Toris and Natalya had to hardly do anything. Yawning, she struggled to push off Toris when Feliks burst open the door, causing Toris to jump away and Natalya to roll over onto the floor.
"Wesołych Świąt!" Feliks said as Toris looked around and Natalya looked up from the floor with a murderous glare. "Ooooooooohhhhhh…." He said realizing what he had done. "Still tired from Midnight Mass?"
"Yes." Natalya said simply.
"Guess I should have knocked first…." Feliks said. "I mean you could have been giving Natalya a special gift…." At this Natalya took the nearest thing she could find, being one of her slippers, and threw it at Feliks hitting him in the head. "What the hell? Rude much?"
"One could argue that you were rude barging in here." Toris sighed rubbing his eyes. "And why did we all have to go to Mass yesterday at Midnight? I thought you weren't religious at all and hated how you were treated in your childhood?"
"Yeah, they treated me like shit for how I was. Can't help if I don't give a shit if you have a dick or pussy and I think you're hot." Feliks said. "But it's Christmas and despite how awful my particular church was in the village I grew up in, it does not change the memories held with every tradition."
"I guess that sounds okay…" Natalya sighed. "Now what did you feel was so important you would risk walking in on Toris and I possibly having sex?"
"Oh that," Feliks said. "I'm making breakfast."
"And cleaning up the mess you made of the table?" Natalya asked.
"That's because the baby Jesus was born in a manager!" Feliks sighed.
"Well, the baby Jesus may have been born in a barn, but I wasn't." Natalya said.
"It's Polish tradition for Christmas Eve dinner!" Feliks moaned.
"I understand. That's why I didn't object to it last night." Natalya countered.
"Didn't you though?" Toris asked as Natalya looked at him.
"I think she did…." Feliks said as the other slipper went to his head. "She's a wildcard that one…." He said as he headed back into the kitchen.
Toris sighed, "He's not trying to be a bad houseguest." He reassured her.
"I know, I mean he could be worse and most of what I put up with is for your benefit," Natalya replied taking a deep breath.
"I love you for doing so." Toris said as he kissed her.
"I wouldn't be putting up with him if I didn't." Natalya said as she pulled some clothes out of the closet.
"Maybe putting up with Mr. Alfred as a brother in law helped teach you a few things about dealing with obnoxious people." He laughed.
"Possibly." She admits. "I wish it would be the 31st..." She thought looking at the Snegurochka dress that Katyusha had taken a costume and tailored it to fit perfectly for her and added a few extra flourishes to make it look good.
"That's only 6 days away." Toris said. "And you would make a good Snegurochka." He smiled.
"Thank you." She added with a kiss on Toris' cheek as she changed into a pair of khaki pants and a tight black turtleneck. "I do hope the twins will like what we got them."
"They will. Don't worry." Toris said as they headed from the bedroom to the kitchen. "Let's see what Feliks has made, huh?"
"Well, he isn't a horrible cook. I could have done without him mentioning he put the scales on his chest like his grandma did, and yes it took me some adjustment to get used to the straw all over the kitchen, but he's made Christmas interesting..." Natalya said.
"Told you so!" Feliks smiled. "Made a scramble, some kielbasa, peppers, onions and eggs. I will admit I was lazy with the dishes last night so this was easy one pan."
"Looks good..." Toris said.
"You know I can cook Torri-boy." Feliks smiled.
"Yeah yeah, but your cleaning left a lot to be desired..." Toris replied.
"In my house, I would not clean anything until there were cockroaches." Natalya looked at Feliks slightly confused and disgusted. "I order take out a lot when there's no dishes."
"One time I recall you ate cereal from a shoe..." Toris sighed.
"Prepared me for my military service." Feliks saluted. "You should see the stuff I had to do in my selection."
"But you didn't make it?" Natalya asked.
"Nah, and my enlistment went up so I could do more what I wanted to. Some of the guys in my unit liked how I played games so that gave me the first viewers of my channel and well I learned to be tough because I liked designing dresses and well, your barracks finding your sketchbook is asking for trouble, unless you can get yourself out of it. Which I could." Feliks smiled proudly. Natalya sat down, expecting it to still be covered in the straw from the night before. Looking down, she just saw the breakfast and a cup of her favorite tea. "Yeah, I found that tea you like Talya, made that to go with this. It's pretty good."
"I wish you would have asked first..." Natalya said. "But you did a good job cleaning the table at least..." She sighed.
"I remember how much of a fuss you made over the straw, so I cleaned that up at least." Feliks said. "And don't worry I'll do the dishes after breakfast, then I will put the movie on, and we can react to it for my video." Feliks then turned. "You don't mind, do you?" Toris nodded and they looked to Natalya hopefully.
"Sure." Natalya sighed. "I will admit that I don't understand much Polish."
"That's fine." Feliks said.
"And I want to see it before you upload it. If you're having me in your video, I do demand that at least." Natalya stated. She knew the premise of the movie, having seen it many times growing up. It was on television and for some reason, Katyusha saw it as a way to keep the family together at Christmas, especially after their great uncle died and they could not give each other anything really big or extravagant. Often it was things bought at dollar stores as that was all they could afford at the time. Looking over at the small tree in the other room, she smiled, knowing that while most of them were for the twins, she knew she wasn't giving them cheap toys as the only things they could afford. I had lived hardship and I swear never to go back to it. She thought as she ate.
"Fine." Feliks said.
"You know it's only fair." Toris argued. He knew that if there wasn't some boundary set, then Feliks would just upload whatever he wanted. Feliks was indeed his best friend, but Toris knew how he could be sometimes. And he knew Natalya well. She did not take to foolishness well. He could tell both of them were putting up with each other for his sake but if they had met each other without knowing that, then they would likely get into a fight. One that Toris could not safely say which person would win.
"Alright. I will let Natalya see my finished product before it's uploaded." Feliks agreed when he saw how Toris was glaring at him.
"You know your parents should be finishing up dinner." Natalya told as she finished her tea. "Maybe while Feliks is doing the dishes, we should tell them we've decided on a date. It gives them plenty of time to plan and get the tickets."
"You're right." Toris agreed.
"You're leaving me alone while I do this?" Feliks pout.
"Why yes, I mean I don't like people talking to me when I am trying to wash." Natalya said. Feliks picked up on the fact she was trying to be polite and left the conversation there.
"Okay. Just tell your parents Co tam fajni kolesie? Właściwie raz sprzątam. Wesołych Świąt i szczęśliwego Nowego Roku moi drudzy rodzice for me Torriboy!" Feliks said as Toris rolled his eyes and took Natalya to the bedroom where they could have some peace for the call.
"What was it he said?" Natalya asked. She didn't know a lot of Polish, was getting better with Lithuanian but wanted to make sure it was nothing vulgar.
"Oh, he told me to tell my parents, 'What's up cool dudes? I'm actually cleaning for once. Merry Christmas and a happy new year my second parents'" Toris sighed with slight embarrassment. "I told you we grew up together and he did see my parents and like his second set of parents. My mom actually would bake him cookies all the time and his mother would give her jam to put in them." Natalya nodded.
"Did they tell him you were getting married?" Natalya asked.
"My mom likely did. He always called her when he could, and I know she probably told half if not all the neighborhood." Toris sighed.
"Well Katyusha was overjoyed to hear I was marrying as well…." Natalya sighed laying back. You know I focus so much on Vanya and the twins, I don't pay much attention to Charlotte and Katyusha…..I could help her get a break every now and again and well, she has told me that she wants to spend more time with the twins, which I was able to allow her some time with them at Christmas with the convenient excuse of Feliks being over. I do need to balance it as when Charlotte gets older, she will be able to pick up more on things and may think I am playing favorites. I should make that a New Year's resolution, to balance time with my nieces and nephew…. She thought as Toris had dialed his parents. Looking over, she noticed the phone ringing.
"Witam Mamo i Tato, Wesołych Świąt Bożego Narodzenia." Toris said as he put the phone on speaker for Natalya to hear as well. "How are you doing?" He asked.
"Doing great." Toris' father replied. "Your mother and I have just had a small celebration of the holidays with ourselves. The neighbors invited us to their dinner. How is Feliks?" He asked.
"Yes, do tell me he made it in alright?" His mother asked.
"Yes, he did…." Natalya moaned.
"And is he being a good guest?" Toris' mother asked. "I had told him that you would not take kindly to him acting too foolish."
"You'll be happy to know he is." Toris said. "I think Natalya is keeping him in line. Although he insisted on doing a Polish Christmas Eve last night and spread hay on the table. That was an argument."
"I can understand. Did he clean it up?" Toris' mother laughed.
"Yes." Natalya growled.
"Good." Toris' mother replied.
"Speaking of Feliks, he told me to tell you, Co tam fajni kolesie? Właściwie raz sprzątam. Wesołych Świąt i szczęśliwego Nowego Roku moi drudzy rodzice" Toris said.
"Hmmmmm…. Feliks should know that my Polish isn't that great…." Toris' father said.
"It means, 'What's up cool dudes? I'm actually cleaning for once. Merry Christmas and a happy new year my second parents'" Natalya said. "I don't know Polish too well myself but that's what I was told."
"Ah." Toris' father said. "Tell Feliks we said thanks and are having a Merry Christmas."
"Well, we have something we finally agreed on." Natalya began.
"Oh really?" Toris' mother asked.
"Yes, we decided to have the wedding June 15th." Natalya said as Toris agreed. "We have yet to really tell my family but that, but we will."
"Of course." Toris' father said as Toris' mother pulled out her calendar and wrote it down.
"We must get started right away!" She spoke. "Booking the plane tickets, booking a room…."
"You know…." Natalya began. "The company I work for owns a bed and breakfast in town and we can get you a good rate. I do know the manager after all…." She smirked knowing she could probably talk Francis into practically giving Toris' parents a room for free and if not, she could talk Lucille into it in a heartbeat.
"We don't want to take advantage of you." Toris' mother said.
"You wouldn't be. Consider it me looking out for my family." Natalya said.
"I'm honored." Toris' mother said. "That you would think of us like your family means so much."
"Well, you are my soon to be husband's parents. If you're part of his family, then you are part of mine." A lesson I have learned very well with Matthew and Alfred's parents…. She thought. The rest of the call went on discussing holiday plans, how Feliks was behaving and what their schooling and work was like before Toris' father said the neighbors were calling them to dinner and they had to leave.
"So, you think of my parents like your family?" Toris said as he kissed Natalya.
"Yes." Natalya said simply as he laid her down and kissed her lips after moving some of her hair behind her ear.
"God, I love you so much." Toris said. "Maybe I should give you something…." He said as he kissed her deeply. She wrapped her arms around him and put her tongue in his mouth when a loud bang was heard at the door. "WHAT?" Toris yelled annoyed.
"Uggggghhhh…." Natalya said laying back.
"I'm done with the dishes." Feliks said. "Want to watch the movie now?"
"NO! Go away!" Natalya moaned.
"We'll join you when we're ready." Toris sighed.
"Oooooooohhhhh Okay just make sure to leave your soon to be wife satisfied." Feliks laughed.
"Leave us alone!" Natalya said throwing one of Toris' sneakers at the door.
"Okay." Feliks said walking away.
Toris listened to make sure that he had walked away and then turned back to Natalya. "Where were we?" He smirked.
"You know exactly where." She smiled.
"Indeed." He replied with a kiss.
