Earth's Grand Healer

Part 2: Brothers Know Everything

Samantha raced to the carriage house. The voice was right. In another three days there would be a full moon but what could her brother do? What did he even know? Virgil just learned he was heir to Merlin's magic. As Samantha came closer to the carriage house the door opened by itself as if to not only welcome her, but to give her shelter. She raced up the stairs to the second level to find Virgil was there, sitting in the middle of the living room space surrounded by a glowing double circle. Samantha could see that the circle was made up of runes and symbols. She could feel the power of that circle. It was the center of Merlin's magic. It felt familiar and yet alien. Do the Atlanteans also have access to magic? She didn't have time to question Virgil when he finally spoke.

"The demon wants what you have," Virgil said.

"Want's what I have?" Samantha questioned. 'How did Virgil know it was a demon?' Samantha hadn't mentioned that. "What could that demon want that I have? I didn't make any such bargain"

"In a way you did," Virgil reminded his sister. "The moment you gave your blood each month to that demon, that was a bargain in itself."

Samantha's face paled. "You're . . . You're right."

"Is there anything else you promised that demon you would give to her?"

"The demon is female?"

"Can you not sense that?" Virgil threw a question back at his adopted sister.

Samantha had to think. She could not recall consciously making a bargain with a demon. It was more of an underlying feeling that she needed to do whatever was required to become a grand healer, starting with shedding her blood, but mostly to curb the cravings she had been having since then. At least, that was what she told herself. Then her eyes went wide. On the second night of the full moon, Tim would always be present with her. As she shed her blood, they would make love, spilling his seed and mingling it with her blood. She had not noticed that Tim was in a dreamlike state, as if he were sleepwalking and yet he was also fully aware of what he was doing. Had the demon compelled Tim?

Samantha asked out loud. "What does she want?"

"Same as any woman," Virgil answered. "A child."

"A child?" Samantha was astounded. "How do you know this?"

"Since I came to be Merlin's heir, I've been asking many questions myself. I could hear the voices clearly as I am speaking to you, however the voice sees me as a threat to her plans. This ring of protection keeps her from attacking me.

"How is my blood supposed to release her?" Samantha questioned. "I haven't shed any blood for months. I haven't even resumed the ritual."

"Don't resume it," Virgil urged. "I believe she is after more than just a child. She not only wants to use you as her vessel, she hungers for Tim's sweet aura so she has marked Tim somehow. I'm trying to learn how and hopefully remove that mark if I can't, every demon possessed female will be after him."

"Oh great," Samantha scoffed. "Just what I need, a husband that not only is attracted by the opposite sex, but demons as well."

"Give me time, Sister," Virgil pleaded. "I just hope I can figure it out in time."

"You better," Samantha teased.

"At least take this." Virgil handed Samantha a small amulet with a red crystal. "Have Tim wear this. It will give him some protection and may even work through his aura to protect him from a demon attack."

"All right." Samantha took the amulet from Virgil. "I do not understand why, but I will do as you ask."

Virgil gave his sister a smile. "Everything will work out."

"Thank you, Virgil," Samantha said. "I am so glad we found each other, again."

"Oh, one other thing." Virgil got up from the circle and it dissipated. "You may want to wear this yourself. "He handed her a second amulet and it had a bluestone a stone that reflected like water. "This will enhance your Atlantean abilities to resist the demon's voice. I know you and Tim wear your marriage pearls all the time do not take off those pearls for any reason you will notice that both amulets have recesses in the back so the pearls can easily rest inside if something should happen to those pearls."

"I know." Samantha didn't let Virgil continue. "I don't know how you know but I'll make sure our pearls are safe. Tim is my soul mate and if our pearls were to shatter there's nothing that will tear us apart."

"You better return to your husband, he's going to need you."

"Goodnight, Virgil."

Samantha felt a little more reassured. Even so, she could not help wondering what that demon truly wanted."
