Chapter 6: Escape From Phantasm
Twenty years ago…on October 31st… Laurie Strode plummeted to her death at the hands of Michael Myers. Her body had hit the pavement hard from over ten stories high. The fall would have been impossible for a mere mortal to survive. Moments later, Michael watched from afar as the EMT pronounced her dead. It was over. Michael had finally won.
A day later, after Laurie's body left the hospital, her corpse was loaded into a hearse and taken to the morgue.
Upon arriving at the morgue, she was unloaded by a tall, older white man wearing a pitch black suit. The tall man showed great strength when he effortlessly lifted her body and placed her on a table in preparation for the embalming process. He then left the room for a few minutes because he needed to grab a few extra tools.
Just after the mortician left, Laurie's body began twitching with involuntary muscle spasms. Seconds later, her eyes opened and she was alive somehow. She wasn't sure what was going on. The last thing she could remember was when she fell from the tall building, except her memory made it seem like she was falling for minutes. She didn't even remember hitting the ground. She then tried moving her arms and legs, but her muscles were unresponsive. She also couldn't get her vocal chords to make a sound and she wasn't even sure if she was breathing or not.
Suddenly a woman's voice entered her head. "Laurie Strode, my name is Agitha Williams. I brought you back from the dead because I need your help... Well… sorta 'back from the dead'… You are actually UNDEAD to be precise."
Laurie tried opening her mouth so that she could talk, but the muscles were still unresponsive.
"You won't be able to speak because you are still technically dead, but you can speak to me with your mind." Agitha informed her.
"Where am I? Is this Hell?" Laurie thought to herself.
"HA! No! This isn't Hell, but it might as well be." Agitha proclaimed, proving to Laurie that she could indeed hear her thoughts. "You are at the morgue… 'The Morgue of the Phantasm' to be precise."
"Morgue of the Phantasm? What does that mean?"
"It means that your soul is about to be harvested so that Beelzebub can unleash HELL on Earth."
"Beelzebub? The Devil? What is so important about my soul?"
"Your soul is the last connection between the living and the spiritual world. That is why you have been tormented all these years by The Shape…(Sigh) By my son… The same spirit who possessed your brother, Michael Myers, when he was only six years old." Agitha frowned. "He's the Devil's son now." Again she sighed. "Your living soul was the last line of defense… And, now you're dead."
"Then, why didn't Michael kill me when I was only two years old. He had the perfect opportunity! Why wait until I was a teenager?" Laurie blurted.
"Because, when The Shape took over Michael's body, Michael was still somewhat in control of his actions and he couldn't bring himself to murder an innocent young child. Your sister Judith wasn't so innocent. She had actually been molesting Michael from a very young age. Michael actually wanted to kill her. The soul of The Shape simply helped push Michael over the edge. It wasn't until the Shape had completely taken over Michael's body and mind that he would finally escape Smith's Grove and come after you, hoping to finish the Devil's work, but we all know how that ended." Agitha explained.
Laurie couldn't remember a lot of things when she was only two years old, but she did remember a time that Michael came running from out of his room screaming at Judith, telling her to STOP. If Judith was doing something to him, that would certainly explain the reason he came running out screaming.
Why is The Shape… your son… doing this?"
"He is being controlled by Satan." Agitha replied. "A long time ago Beelzebub tricked me into selling him my soul in exchange for allowing my three, six year old sons to live."
"Did you say… THREE sons?" Laurie fretted, wondering if the other ones also turned out to be like Michael.
"Yes. over three-hundred years ago my three sons were murdered in cold blood by the residents of Salem Village. After that happened I made a pact with the Devil. In exchange for my soul he was supposed to allow me and my three sons to live. He did allow us to live, however, I had to live in torment for several years until the torment became my pleasure. Since then, he has been controlling my sons, only allowing them to walk the Earth so that they could do his bidding. One of them entered the body of Jason Voorhees when he was six, another entered the body of Freddy Krueger at the age of six, and of course you now know when the other son entered Michael's. And… Now that you are dead… Beelzebub can join the four of us together again in order to create the most powerful cenobite to ever walk the Earth."
"Cenobite?" Laurie asked.
"Multi-dimensional, demonic beings." Agitha replied. "Currently controlled by Pinhead, the Hell Priest."
"And you brought me back to life in order to fight Beelzebub and a Hell Priest named Pinhead?" Laurie retorted. "I've lived a life of HELL for long enough, couldn't you have just let me die?"
"I brought you back because I need you to absorb my soul. You are strong and you are fierce. You can keep him from executing his plan. Because… If Beelzebub gets his way, everyone on Earth will have to endure much worse than what you have gone through." Agitha warned. "You must protect my soul!"
"What do I have to do? Do I just let you take over my dead body?"
"No. My soul has been harvested by the Tall Man and it is currently resting in a puzzle box known as a Lament Configuration. It is where I shall remain until the Devil finds someone to open the puzzle box… And when that happens, he will finally be able to join our souls together and unleash the torment. If I allow you to absorb a portion of my soul, you will be able to hold off the demons."
Laurie interrupted. "I can't even move! How am I supposed to protect you?."
"I was getting to that." Agitha piped up. "I will give you your strength back by using magic, but you MUST find my puzzle box and guard it for as long as you can. Beelzebub will try to find you… and when he does… he will also send my sons to come find you."
"Great! Just Great! Three of them now! It was already hard enough trying to dodge ONE!"
Just then, Agitha could sense the mortician getting closer. "You must get out of here! The Tall Man is coming!"
"The Tall Man is HERE!?" Laurie frighteningly asked. "The same Tall Man that harvested your soul?"
"Yes. He is the keeper of the souls. He was once an ordinary man and he also worked as a mortician, but he was too smart for his own good and began to dabble with the fabrics of space and time, figuring out how to manipulate the future. Beelzebub didn't appreciate that, he was the only one that wanted to manipulate those types of things, so he tricked the mortician into entering Hell, and when he did, the Devil drained him of his blood and replaced it with yellow embalming fluid. After sending him back to Earth, The Tall Man became another one of Satan's minions." Agitha replied.
"Wait… What?"
"No more questions! I will answer all of them later, but for right now, you must go and find my puzzle box!" Agitha demanded, releasing magic dust over Laurie's body. "I will direct you where to go!"
Laurie could suddenly feel her limbs once again. She then gradually lifted her legs over the side of the table that she had been laying on.
Moments later, the Tall Man entered the room. He instantly realized that Laurie's corpse was gone. One of his eyebrows raised and a long scowl grew on his face.
Meanwhile, Laurie hobbled her way through a long corridor as quickly as she could muster up the strength to do so. After turning the corner she suddenly came to an area which offered SIX different hallways to choose from. She wasn't sure of which way to go and she was hoping Agitha could help her out.
"How do I find your puzzle box and get the Hell out of here?" She asked, looking at the SIX different options.
Suddenly, Laurie heard a buzzing noise coming from the corridor she had just hobbled through.
And then, the buzzing object came around the corner and presented itself in the shape of a silvery-metallic floating sphere, about the size of a softball. When the sphere recognized Laurie, a large spinning drill bit appeared from out of it.
Laurie wasn't sure of what was going on. "GULP!" She swallowed in fear as the floating object crept closer. "What the HELL is that thing?"
"That thing is about to drill a hole in your head and capture your thoughts by sucking out the blood from your brain." Agitha warned.
"Oh, is that ALL it does?" Laurie responded sarcastically.
Then, the flying orb rushed towards Laurie with the spinning drill coming straight for her skull.
"Shit! Which way do I go!?"
"Follow the SIXTH corridor. Each corridor you come to next will have SIX more halls. Always pick the SIXTH one until it brings you to a room in the center of this mortuary. There you will find my puzzle box, along with several others. Each one is another powerful Cenobite."
Laurie shuffled off quickly through the Sixth hallway. She was beginning to feel more strength in her legs, however, she still hadn't regained all her strength yet and the flying sphere continued to get closer and closer.
Just as the sphere nearly made it to Laurie's head, she managed to grab hold of a statue, which was near the wall, and swing it at the sphere like a baseball bat.
WHAM! Laurie smacked the sphere as hard as she could, causing the statue to explode into several fragments, while at the same time, putting the flying orb out of commission. "Home run, BITCH!" She bragged, watching the metal object fly into the air until it smashed into a wall.
She then quickly dashed off in the direction that Agitha instructed her to go.
Finally, Laurie made it to the room Agitha described. The room was the shape of a hexagon. There were also SIX puzzle boxes being displayed. Each one of them sat on its very own pedestal. The boxes were made up of metallic gold color and they were slightly larger than a Rubik's Cube. Each of them also had its own combination lock in order to open one.
"Okay, which one is your puzzle box?" Laurie asked, eagerly wanting to grab it and go.
"It's the one at the far end of the room. It will have a symbol that resembles the number 6."
Laurie walked towards the far pedestal, admiring the art inscribed on the gold metallic puzzle boxes as she made her way along. She found the puzzle box that had a symbol that resembled the number 6 and then picked it up.
Just then, The Tall Man entered the room and he was accompanied by three more metallic floating spheres, all three displaying their spinning drills.
Agitha spoke up. "Quick, turn the top dial of the puzzle box counterclockwise twice and then turn the bottom dial clockwise three times!"
Laurie quickly did what Agitha asked of her. Just after turning the bottom dial for the third time.-
"OUCH!" Laurie bellowed, having just been stabbed by a large needle which had come from out of the puzzle box.
Laurie's blood had now mixed with Agitha's.
Laurie's body felt stronger than ever.
The Tall Man sent the flying orbs in Laurie's direction, but Laurie was able to stop the orbs in mid-flight by simply holding out her hand. She somehow had the powers of a telekinesis.
The Tall Man could be seen across the room trying to use his own telekinesis powers to control the spheres, but somehow Laurie's abilities were stronger than his and she was able to reverse the course of the spheres, causing them to embed their spinning drills into the Tall Man's chest and stomach. Yellow blood oozed from out of The Tall Man's body, but it didn't seem to phase him much because he was still able to walk quickly towards Laurie.
"WHY DO THEY ALL WALK LIKE THAT!?" Laurie blurted, recognizing that The Tall Man walked the same way as Michael Myers.
"There is a secret passageway behind the sixth pedestal!" Agitha exclaimed. "Once entering the hidden passage, I know the PERFECT way to escape."
Laurie quickly made her way to the sixth pedestal.
"Just behind the puzzle box you will find a movable brick. Push that in and the wall will open up." Agitha instructed.
Laurie managed to duck into the secret passageway just as The Tall Man made it closer to her. She then tried making the door close before he could enter, but The Tall Man stuck his arm in the opening just before the door could shut and his fingers began reaching for Laurie's head. Laurie then mustered up the strength to force the door completely shut, causing The Tall Man's arm to get cut off.
She thought the struggle was over, but then the Tall Man's arm shape-shifted into a large spider and began crawling towards her.
"Jesus Christ! Doesn't this BASTARD EVER DIE!?" Laurie screamed, squashing the giant insect with her foot, yellow goo splattering across the floor.
"NO!" Agitha piped up. "He simply regenerates."
"What do we do now? I thought you said you had a perfect way to escape this place if I made it into the hidden passage."
"I do!" Agitha declared. "Do you see that tall stick standing up in the corner?"
"Yeah!"
"Grab it!" Agitha instructed, allowing Laurie to grab hold. "AND HOLD ON!"
Suddenly, Laurie's body lifted from off the ground because the stick was levitating in mid-air. She quickly adjusted herself by positioning the stick between her legs. Then, both her and the stick began speeding off, flying through the halls of the secret passageway.
Seconds later, "The exit is just ahead!" Agitha informed her, heading towards a door at the end of the hall.
But… just before Laurie made it to the exit… The Tall Man reappeared. He somehow made it to the exit before she could, and somehow his arm had already grown back.
"Not to worry!" Agitha declared. "That wasn't the exit I was talking about!"
Just then, the stick began rapidly flying upward. When Laurie looked up she could see that her and the stick were heading towards a large stained-glass window… and then-
CRASH! The window shattered as she bursted through it. When Laurie looked back she could see a very disgruntled Tall Man as she flew out of sight.
For the next twenty years Laurie prepared for her next encounter with EVIL by moving to a place not even the Devil would want to visit... Gotham City. Unfortunately, it was Batman that stumbled upon Lauries lethal traps.
