EPILOGUE:
"But what are you doing?! Stop William!" Julia burst out laughing as she watched the young man attempt to balance a book on one of the morgue shelves.
"No, but wait, I'm almost there." William protested in annoyance as he stalked. The book did not want to balance on this pile, and it had a way of making him angry. "You could come and help me instead of watching me struggle."
Julia laughs even more. It had now been three days since she had started labor and William and she had not had time to see each other once. The young man had been so overwhelmed, and he had finally found an opportunity to come and see her at the morgue. In HER morgue.
She had wanted to put one of her biology books on the shelf, but she had not had time to sort through the former coroner's belongings yet. William had kindly offered to put the book back on the shelf, balanced on a pile of other books. But it was not quite going as planned as the pile now threatened to collapse.
The young woman approached her lover and wrapped her arms around him and rested her head in the crook of his shoulder blades, as she felt that he was really starting to lose patience.
"William… It's nothing. Relax, my love."
She immediately felt his shoulders relaxed at the nickname she had used.
"I love you Julia…"
"Me too." she smiled with a sigh of well-being.
In the end, Chief Inspector Brackenreid had been right. It felt good to be close to each other and to have each other close at hand. Even when they were overwhelmed, just knowing the other was there made them feel better. They were healing slowly and surely, and that was what they wanted.
William turned and looked into her eyes with a smile, the book still in his hand. He leaned down and kissed her lovingly. Julia put her arms around his neck as he hugged her by the hips.
"I'm glad you're working with us."
"Me too. And it's exciting to discover something new." she exclaimed enthusiastically.
"You are beautiful with your little sparkling eyes."
Julia lowered her head, a smile on her face. She leaned over to him and took him in her arms. She rested her head on his shoulder and they stayed like that for several minutes in soothing silence.
"You worry a lot. Is not it?" Julia suddenly whispered, her head still resting on the detective's shoulder.
"Yes…"
"Everything will be fine, I promise you."
William smiled wistfully.
"I have done all the steps to ensure that Alfredo's funeral goes as well as possible and that he is placed near his wife. But I dread attending…"
"Look…this is going to be hard. For sure. But he would be grateful for everything you did for him and especially for the promise you kept." Julia reasoned, looking the young man in the eye.
William smiled tenderly at her. She was completely right. He had Julia by his side. Nothing bad could happen. They were out of trouble, and they were learning to heal little by little together. The families of the victims would never be avenged, and the three men committed suicide. But by living and loving each other, they brought honor to all these people. To Alfredo Villari and Julia's friends. They would live their lives in the best way. In a way that would make the victims of that night at the Westons live through them and not die alone, forgotten.
Note: There we go! It is the end! Thank you to everyone who has read and will read my story! I so enjoyed writing this one which was very different from what I have always done. The fear and the anguish, the drama all this, I was not used to writing about it and I hope to have made people feel emotions.
Feel free to leave a comment on what you thought of this story. And above all: give me story ideas, please, if you want! There I have no idea, I'm dry! If you want a particular theme or if you have an idea that you would like me to write, let me know, that would be nice! Thank you anyway and until next time !
