I'm back again!
I lost my VIZ subscription but should have it back by next week!
Enjoy!
The days of training passed. The day of the Provisional Hero Licensing Exam came.
Haru buzzed with excitement as she exited the bus with her team at the National Takoba Arena.
Aizawa turned to the students.
"Earn your provisional licenses by passing this test, and you won't be mere eggs anymore. But full-fledged hatchings. Reborn as semi-pros! Show them your best."
The students grinned in excitement and were starting their cheer when they were interrupted by another student from another school.
"It's bad manners to intrude on another group's huddle. Inasa."
He was interrupted by another student from the same school.
"I am so very sorry."
This Inasa boy bowed so hard he slammed his head into the concrete making him bleed.
"Who are these guys?"
Haru asked as Bakugo looked down at her.
"U.A.'s in the east and Shiketsu's in the west. Theirs is one of the few elite hero courses that can rival U.A. Shiketsu High."
The student popped up.
"I just always wanted to try saying it! Plus Ultra! I freakin' love U.A. High! It is truly an honor to compete alongside the fine students of U.A.!"
Haru jumped at the loud student.
"He's a lot."
Aizawa explained that the students needed to keep an eye on him until he was interrupted by a Hero walking up to him.
"I wish we would just get started."
Haru mumbled, her nerves making it hard to want to socialize with the other students.
Finally the students were allowed to change and granted entry into a giant room packed full of students looking at a screen with instructors on a stage. Finally the instructor that looked like he hadn't slept in a few weeks started talking.
"Right. The Provisional Licensing Exam. That's what you're here for. Yeah. I'm Mera, with the Heroes Public Safety Commission. My favorite type of sleep is non-rem sleep. Nice to meet you all. Work is so busy that I barely get any sleep! We're terribly short staffed! Just wanna sleep! With that important information out of the way. Let me explain the exam. Getting right to it. All 1,540 examinees present will be competing in one massive free-for-all exercise!"
The students looked unimpressed.
"A free for all? It can't be that simple."
Haru mumbled.
"Today's society is saturated with Heroes. And ever since Stain's capture, plenty of people out there have raised doubts about the role Heroes should play. The title of Hero should not be given to those seeking reward and recompense but should by one earned through tireless self-sacrifice. That said. As far as individuals go. Motivations aside, telling those who risk their lives in order to save others to ask for nothing in return. Would be rather harsh, especially in modern society. So. Whether it's done for compensation or out of dedication to the cause, we have no shortage of Heroes out there working to save people and put Villains away. Nowadays, the amount of time it takes to resolve any. Given incident. Is incredibly short. Those of you who earn your provisional licenses will be confronting such situations that unfold at a breakneck pace. Those who can't keep up are doomed to fail. Which is why we're testing you on speed! Only the first hundred examinees to meet the requirements will pass."
This caused the students to scream about it being unfair.
"So only 100 will pass. This is going to be hard."
Haru mumbled and Ochako agreed.
"Society is rarely so kind. There's no relying on luck. Now the passing requirements involve these."
The instructor held up a ball and a target.
"Each examinee will get three targets. Place them wherever you like on your body, so long as they are exposed. That means no soles of the feet and no armpits. Each of you will also carry six balls. The targets are rigged to light up only when struck by a ball. You're disqualified the instant that all three of your targets are lit. Those with three illuminated targets are considered "defeated." to pass, you must 'defeat' two other examinees. That's it for the rules.
Haru nodded as the students took in the rules.
"Yes. So we'll be handing out balls and targets once this place opens up. The exam will begin one minute after all examinees are fully equipped."
Haru looked at the walls wondering what they meant by opens up until the walls clicked and the room opened up into a giant arena. Walking over Haru grabbed her targets and balls before meeting up with her classmates.
"We need to stick together. That's what everyone is going to do. And being the top school we need to watch our backs."
Haru stated to her classmates who agreed except for Bakugo and Todoroki who left to handle it on their own.
"This is gonna turn into a battle between schools, I'm sure of it."
Midoriya chimed in and Haru nodded.
"Which means we have the biggest targets on our backs."
At the count down the classmates moved until the countdown stopped at 1 and Start was announced. Spinning around Haru felt her stomach drop at seeing all the students were aiming at them and more balls than she could count headed in their direction.
"Everyone behind me!"
"Haru what are you doing?!"
Haru ignored Ochako and created a giant wall of fire to protect herself and her classmates. All of a sudden a student threw four balls that went underground.
"What?"
Jiro reacted telling everyone to get back before stepping in front of Haru and ducking down to destroy the ground with her sound waves. The balls were spotted heading towards Mineta where Ashido destroyed them with her acid. Tokoyami yelled for Haru to drop her wall as he sent Black Shadow at a student that ducked, as black shadow came back Haru brought the wall back up keeping a close eye on the students on the other side. Her eyes focused on a student putting his hands on the ground before dropping her wall and yelling at everyone to jump as the ground under them exploded. Landing gently, Haru looked back to see her class had been separated.
"Not good."
She mumbled while looking ahead at the students, jumping up as a girl came flying at her, easily dodging the ball she threw and landing on her feet looking at her as the girl rattled on about something Haru didn't care about.
"You talk too damn much."
She stated before grabbing a ball and throwing it with fire behind it, hitting the girl's target on her shoulder.
"You're more powerful than I thought."
The girl taunted as Haru growled and used her flame to take off towards the girl again as the girl tried to run, grabbing her shoulders Haru body slammed her and quickly hit her targets with the ball in her hand.
"Good luck in the future."
Haru smiled and took off to find another target. She paused as it was said over the intercom that someone had already passed.
'Damn, only 99 slots left.'
She thought as she found another student. With a grin she decided to show the judges just what she had been working on. Quickly putting her hands on the ground she forced two vines of fire to shoot out of her hands and latch into the male students arms holding him in place as she threw her last three balls hitting all three of his targets. With a grin she was announced as the second winner and chose to move to the stadium to watch the rest of the battles instead of going to the reception room. Easily finding a spot next to Aizawa.
"Good job kid."
Haru smiled at him.
"Thank you Aizawa. Hopefully the others will pass as well."
Minutes later as Haru tried to scan for her classmates she heard the judge from earlier over the intercom.
"Things're now moving right along! At present we have 52. No 53 passing examinees! One after another. At this point! And many are claiming more than two victims each, since we currently have 230 disqualified students! And there's number 54. More than half there now, so let's hurry up and finish this thing!"
Haru sighed as she stood up, the annoying automated voice on her targets constantly telling her to go to the reception room.
"I'm going to the reception room so these things will stop talking."
She smiled at Aizawa who nodded in agreement, walking into the room she sighed at the amount of students, searching for one of her classmates before spotting Todoroki.
"I see you made it."
She greeted him happily.
"You too Haru. Did you just pass?"
She shook her head.
"I was the second that passed, I was watching the arena."
She responded with a smile as she observed all of the students including the student from earlier. Slowly her classmates joined the pair, she smiled happily when she spotted Bakugo walking in, happily her classmates greeted her as she waited till they were distracted before walking over to Bakugo.
"Hey. You made it."
She smiled up at him.
"Of course I made it extra."
"I still can't believe I beat you here though."
She teased lightly as the classmates talked to each other while they waited to see if Ida would join them.
"It's over! One hundred have successfully passed! We're done, finished! Hahhh! On a less uplifting note, could all those who failed please proceed to the exit?"
The room erupted in excitement as it was announced it was over.
"Now, will all hundred of you please watch the screen."
Everyone turned to the giant screen to the see the arena before a bomb was exploded and the city scape collapsed.
"Round two's the last one! You examinees will venture into the ruins as bystanders and prove your worth when it comes to rescuing innocent victims."
"So it's also a rescue."
Haru mumbled to herself.
Hope everyone enjoyed the chapter!
See you in chapter 23!
