Here's chapter 14, hope you enjoy! Thank you everyone for your patience with me with this one.

By the way, in this story Dustin doesn't end up making the call to Suzie and intercepting the Russian communications because the stuff with Billy had already begun and distracted him. So no russian fighting for the Scoop Troop.

Odette giggled slightly at her rather flustered brother who was heatedly questioning Steve on how he could possibly not know who Ozzy is. "Harrington! Really?! Black Sabbath?!"

Steve chuckles and shrugs sheepishly "Metals not really something I've been exposed to..." Wayne shakes his head at Eddie's dramatics, he stabs at the last of his serving of pot pie with a small smile on his lips. "My mother...my mother wouldn't have it in the house" Steve feels Odette rest her chin on his shoulder delicately as Eddie groans "Get your boy toy some good music Detta!" Eddie suddenly gets up from the table, knocking his side into it and releasing a string of swears as he does. "You're in for it now son" Wayne smirks slightly

Eddie returned not a moment later with at least six tapes in his fingers. "Educate yourself!" He practically throws the cassettes at him, Black Sabbath, Metallica, and Iron Maiden's logos shining in the low light of the kitchen. "Best music on the planet Harrington, tell Madonna you'll miss her buddy" Eddie's grinning like a madman, dimples appearing on his cheeks. He sits back down and begins a rant about the differences in the bands, ranting over their underappreciation. All the while Wayne had begun to look to the clock every once in a while, the tiredness showing on his face. After a while Steve pressed a kiss to Odette's hair before standing up from the table "I should probably head out if that's alright?" Wayne also stands up from the table holding his hand out for Steve to shake, a small smile evident on his face "It was nice meeting you Steve, I hope Detta will bring you 'round more often." As Steve shakes his hand he shoots his niece a cheeky grin "Now that you know we're not all feral like Eds"

"Hey!"

Steve chuckles with the older man "I'm sure you'll see more of me after tonight." He turns and says his goodbyes to Eddie, promising to listen to the tapes when he got into the car. Wayne slapped Steve on the back affectionately before wrangling his nephew into helping with the dishes so Odette could bid her boyfriend goodbye in semi privacy. Steve found himself leaning against the cool metal of his car, the crickets singing in the patches of grass that peaked through the gravel drive of the trailer park. "So...think he liked me?" Steve smiled sheepishly, he was shuffling the small stack of heavy metal tapes in his fingers a little nervously. Odette nodded excitedly and leaned into his side "You were great. I think even Eddie's coming around" She looked up at him, somehow the dim light above the trailer door caught the silver speckles in her eyes, making them shine brighter. Steve leaned down and pressed his lips to hers softly, chastely.

"Oy! Not in front of th-OW" Eddie had flung the door to the trailer open but had been promptly yanked back in by Uncle Wayne's arm. The door promptly was slammed back, pulling a giggle from the couple. "Slowly but surely" Odette shrugs "Thank you again for the flowers, they're beautiful. I'll see you at work tomorrow right?"

He nods, leaning down to press another brief kiss to her lips before getting into the car. He watched idly as she walked back into the trailer, Eddie mean mugging him from the kitchen window. He chuckled to himself, maybe it wouldn't be as bad as they're feared.

The days had begun to fly by, the new mini coven meeting every week to have class with Odette and from what he'd heard from them all, minus Hargrove of course, Steve thought it was going really well. So one morning when he'd been polishing the glass on the display case in scoops he hadn't expected Will to come marching in with a dark purpling black eye. He'd changed a bit in the previous few weeks, he was still the sweet reserved boy with strangers...but he'd started to change up his style. No longer was he copycatting his big brother. He'd started to experiment with his look using glamor charms and Steve had to say, he was a fan of some of them...maybe not the metal look he'd donned, trying to emulate Eddie. He'd had his hair long, down past his shoulders and wavy with black eyeliner on along with his brand new white feather on a silver chain. He'd not been willing to pierce his ear so Odette had made an exception for him.

Today as he walked in with his hair in a short fluffed up style that reminded him of Johnny Depp in Nightmare on Elm Street. His bottom lip was split, but no longer bleeding. He was wearing a dark colored flannel over a white t-shirt and a pair of jeans. The white feather necklace sat just over his heart on the t-shirt. "Will! What happened?!" Steve dropped the cloth he'd been using and almost vaulted over the counter to get to the young teen. Steve grasped his shoulders, trying to get a good look at the damage as Will tried to placate them. "I'm fine!"

"Tell me." The boy sighed, his right eye nearly swollen shut. Avoiding Steve's gaze he'd begun to speak "I was just...I was going to the library to meet up with Mike but...there were these guys passing in a car. They-" He sniffles slightly and bites his lip harshly "They called me a freak and...and I didn't mean to I swear!" He was leaning against the back of a booth, tears pricking his eyes.

"What happened Will?" Steve's voice was low and encouraging as he spoke to the kid. Will sniffled again and choked out his response "I was just so angry...I wanted something bad to happen...then the back window of their car shattered...they thought I threw something" He lets out a puff of air as tears began to trickle down his cheeks. "I didn't know what to tell them...and they all got out of the car and...one of them held me down while the others just started" Will was gasping out now in the thankfully deserted ice cream parlor. "They just started wailing on me..." Steve pulled him into the back and let him sit down by the time cards. He grabbed a bottle of water and held it out to him with a stony look.

"Who were they?"

Will shook his head, still choking back tears. Steve pulled his hand out and made him take the water. "Anything about them Will. Please."

Will took a small shuddering sip of the liquid before letting himself whisper "They were wearing Hawkins letterman jackets..."

Steve's brow furrowed as he swiftly went through every jock he'd known by name before graduation. "Those jackets have names on them...did you see anyone's name?"

Will was still crying a little as he took another sip, still avoiding the hot chocolate eyes of the man in front of him. "Chance...and Jason I think...there were more though." He sniffled again. Steve nodded and stomped his way over to the phone, yanking the reciever from the phone with a ferocity not fitting the navy uniform he wore. "What are you doing?"

"I'm calling your mother to pick you up. Then I'm calling Hopper to pick up those dickbags." He begins to dial the number for the Byer's house when Will's fingers jammed into the switchhook to hang up the phone. "Don't!"

Steve looked at him exasperatedly "I can't not tell your mom you got attacked-"

"Mom's weird right now...she's been freaking out over...over magnets..." He sighs heavily and looks back up at him "Please don't call her?" Steve froze for a second before putting the receiver down and turning fully back to him "What do you want me to do then?"

Will sat back down, shrugging dejectedly "I don't know...I just...I didn't feel safe...and I was too embarrassed to meet up with Mike...I called his house and told him that I couldn't make it." He leans forward with his elbows on his knees, the silver chain swinging the feather out in front of him. Steve nodded awkwardly. "Do I...Should I call Jonathan?"

Will shakes his head "He's out with Nancy today...I don't want him to know...he already thinks this magic stuff is weird" Steve nods and sighs "Listen Will...Rob will be here in about an hour. I think on my break I can sneak...out to the food court and grab us something...then you can sneak into the movies if you want...I hear they're playing Return to Oz...it looked pretty weird." He shoves his hands into his pockets and smiles a little sheepishly at the younger kid. Will wiped his eyes gingerly with a small grateful smile. "That sounds nice...I can pay you back for lunch-"

"Nah. I got it. Now...why don't you tell me all about that new campaign you mentioned last week...there's a banana split with your name on it" The teen chuckles wryly but gets out of the chair, screwing the cap back onto his water. "You hate D&D"

"No clue what you're talking about Mr. Magic, I'm obviously the best player in Indiana" Steve beams at the howl of laughter that the younger boy let loose.

Steve lit the cigarette between his teeth with an agressive click of the silver lighter in his fingers. He tossed the lighter into the seat next to him and puffed on the stick of tobacco. He let the puff of smoke out of his nostrils, throwing the car into gear. He'd just dropped Robin and Will off at the trailer park, making sure they'd made it safely inside where Odette would heal the painful bruises on his face along with the ones he'd hidden on his ribs. Once the door was shut he'd pealed out, letting gravel fly behind the BMW as he went. He'd already changed into a dark polo and jeans, not wanting to do this in his work uniform.

Jason fucking Carver. A preachy little asshole since Steve had been a sophomore. He'd become quite the little ringleader since Steve had lost his crown to Billy. As he drove he looked for Jason's car. He tore through town, glowering out into the darkening night at every passing car until he made his way to Andy Wilson's house where he'd been so graciously been told of the party he'd decided to throw in his parent's absence. There, right in front of the driveway sat Jason's car, the back window shattered out.

The house was already alive with activity, he walked in, cigarette still burning brightly in the night air. He wove through the drunken teens and kept his eyes peeled for the jocks in question. He didn't have to look for long, in the backyard he found four of them surrounding a keg. Jason, Chance, Andy, and Patrick all joking and laughing slightly drunkenly around the beer. Jason turned and caught his gaze "Is that you Harrington?!"

Steve smirked inwardly at the slightly familiar line "Yeah it's me. Don't cream your pants" He takes another puff of his cigarette, the embers getting close to the butt of it now. "So Carver, having fun with the new freshmen today?"

Jason's large grin slid off his face ever so slightly, to be replaced by confusion "I don't know what you mean."

Steve let out a humorless bark, his dark eyes fixed on the blonde in front of him. He flicks the butt of the cigarette away into the grass as nonchalantly as he can before returning his gaze to them. "Did anything interesting happen today boys? Anything that you might regret?"

Jason pursed his lips, looking at his friends as he swayed slightly on his feet. "Nope"

"So you didn't beat up some kid today?" Steve's voice had gone down an octave, all of the nearby partiers had started to go silent as he glowered at the seniors in front of him. Understanding dawned on Jason's face "I didn't mean to pick on your little brother dude...didn't think you had one." He shrugged, as though it would heal the split lip and bruises. Steve saw red in that moment, he walked forward smiling easily, that same easy smile he'd slapped on for meeting his dad's coworkers, for every pool cleaner his mother had hired when he was young, for every teacher he'd ever had. Jason visibly relaxed a little "Tell the little guy to-" Steve slammed his arm into Jason's throat, smacking the younger teen to the ground with a sickening thud. His head hit the dirt with a wet smack, mud splattering into his hair. Steve leaned down close, holding him down with one arm and so close their noses were almost touching. "Listen here Carver, you bother that kid, or any of his friends, you'll lose teeth." The other four are to stunned to speak as Steve straightens up, leaving Jason gasping in the mud. he turned to them and his face was no less hateful. "That goes for all of you, touch my kids and you'll pay the price" Chance opened his mouth to speak but Steve decided to put the nail in the coffin. With one swift move of his right foot, his sneaker caught Jason in the ribs as he was trying to get up and left him splayed out in the dirt once more. A hand grasped his shoulder and pulled hard, he turned as he swung, catching Chance in the jaw with his fist. He felt something hit him but he kept moving. Pain exploded in his side when Andy's fist made contact, Steve brought his elbow back into his face and heard the sickening crunch of his nose in the chaos around him. There was chanting now, slurred shouts of "Fight fight fight" rang in his ears as another blow hit him from the side, Jason had stood up and tried to tackle him to the ground by slamming his shoulder into Steve's side, he brought his now bloody elbow down onto the back of the blonde's head, now slick with mud. He kicked him away, missing the flying fist from Patrick as it sailed towards his face, missing his nose by an inch. He loses time in the flurry of fists, he'd knocked Jason down for good now and Andy was shouting about his nose a few feet away but Steve was still caught in a brawl with Chance while Patrick stood back looking conflicted.

"The fuck is wrong with you?!" Steve felt another jab meet his jaw but he has no time to react as someone pulls Chance off of him. Patrick stands there pulling his friend back although he looked equally pissed. Steve felt a hand on his shoulder, he turned to look and found Jonathan standing there looking confused. Steve shrugged off his hand and started to move out of the party, stopping only to smirk at Jason as he did. "Harrington!"

He didn't pay Jonathan any mind, weaving through the shocked crowd of Seniors and Juniors of Hawkins high. He wiped the blood that was now streaming from his own nose, not bothering to stop for Jonathan who was still calling out to him from behind. Only after he'd made it out of the house and to his car did Jonathan finally catch up to him. "What was that?!"

Steve shrugged pulling out his pack of cigarettes again shoving one in between his lips. "What does it matter to you Byers?" He mutters around the stick, he reached down through the passenger window and snatched up his lighter, flicking the flame to life and lighting his fresh cigarette.

"You make a habit of being a dick still?"

Steve looked up at him and glared harshly "I don't like dicks who think they can fuck with my kids." Steve growled out, tossing the lighter back into the car. Jonathan's face softened slightly "Which one?"

Steve froze, "He's fine...Odette's got him." He pulled the cigarette from his lips, blowing the smoke into the cooling night air. "That's what matters." He shoves it back in between his teeth "What are you doing at a party?" He leans against his car, hearing the muffled shouts of Andy just beyond, wondering if he'd have issues in the morning from the incident.

"Hard day...figured I could get a drink." Jonathan looked off down the street as though something had caught his eye, although he was really just avoiding eye contact.

"Fair enough." Steve walked around the front of the car and opened the driver's side door. "Harrington!" He looked back up to Jonathan who was still standing on the sidewalk beside the car. "Thanks."

"What for? Starting a fight? Glad I'm entertaining" Steve scoffed, moving to get into the car when Jonathan answered. "No. For being around for Will and his friends...I hope Dustin's ok" He gives Steve a begrudging half smile before turning and turned to walk down the road to where Steve could see his car. Steve sighed, hoping Will had an excuse for not being home tonight. He didn't need Jonathan finding out that Will had gotten his ass kicked and not been told.

Rain trickled down the sides of the trailer, fat drops of water slamming onto the tin roof above the heads of the coven. Will and Robin had been in the trailer since the previous night when Will had come to have his wounds healed. Odette had been up in arms over the attack but Will had soothed her, stating that they weren't worth it. She'd been stewing slowly as the night had gone on but had eventually settled for making sure that the evening went well. An impromptu slumber party had been thrown, movies and music played all night long, much to the chagrin of the metalhead in the next room. The day had come and gone, leaving the night to settle over the trailer. When it had begun to rain El had arrived, waterlogged and haggard but eager for the latest lesson Odette had in store for them. They sat on the floor, candles illuminating the room around them, waiting for Billy to arrive. As always, the blonde arrived late with a cheeky grin. He'd winked at Odette when she'd answered the door, greeting him with a tight smile and a barely concealed roll of the eyes.

"You'll never guess what happened at Wilson's party last night" He smirked

"I didn't take you for a gossip Hargrove" Robin quipped sassily, her fingers idly shuffling a stack of playing cards. Billy's smirk only widened "Oh but your golden boy was there ladies" He kicked off his muddy boots and took a seat on the couch, his legs landing behind Odette who sat in front of the seat. "Don't you wanna know what your boytoy did Angel?"

"What?" Odette said softly, letting her eyes flit to the two younger teens sitting across from her. Billy sat back and let his knees graze her shoulders as he spoke "Harrington decided it was just a great idea to start a fight with four jocks." He cackled slightly "broke one's nose...kicked one into the fucking dirt. Didn't think he'd have it in him" The metalic click of a lighter hit their ears and the smell of smoke as he lit a smoke hit their noses. "Not in the house Billy" Odette griped, turning back to him with a glare. "Was he ok?"

Billy smirked again with an almost affectionate roll of the eyes before he put the cigarette out in a nearby plate. "Your prince charming was fine Angel. Some bumps and bruises, nothing compared to what I-"

"Why'd he start the fight?!" Will's voice rang through the air, cutting the playful teasing Billy had brought to the room, leaving it tense. The older boy lost his grin and raised one eyebrow "Some kid got his ass handed to him by the guys..."

Will went a little red "And he's ok?"

"The kid?"

Will scoffed and looked at the older boy almost tiredly "No. Steve"

"Guy walked out fit as a fiddle. Just a bloody nose I think" Billy shrugged, his eyes raked over the younger kid, looking for any evidence of a fight. When he found none he turned to Odette who'd abandoned glaring at him and turned to the table. She grabbed a small bag that the group were familiar with. The soft clatter of the seeing stones hitting one another broke the silence. "We should get started."

El and Will scooted closer to the table, inadvertently shoving Robin closer to Odette "Not all of you will have the gift of sight...it's not a common one."

The wind howled, slamming against the trailer, almost rocking it with its ferocity. Billy had long since left while the rest of the coven waited for Hopper to come get them. The minutes ticked by slowly, getting closer and closer to midnight and still no sign of the older man. Wayne had also headed out to work with an affectionate nod to the teens who'd transitioned from witchcraft in Odette's bedroom to watching a film in the living area. The windows shook under the harsh winds; no one was surprised when the lights flickered out, casting the witches into darkness. El kept one hand in Mike's fearing the dark as Odette and Robin fumbled through the darkened trailer for Odette's candles. She lit them with a sweep of her hand, scaring them as Eddie materialized out of the darkness behind them. "You guys ok?" He was sleepily trudging through the dark in a hellfire t-shirt and black sleeppants. His feet were donned in black hard soled slippers that padded softly on the cold floor.

"We're still waiting on El's dad" Robin mumbles tiredly, she'd not been home all day and was anxious to get back. Eddie looked out the window into the pitch blackness of the trailer park, even the dim lights along the fences had gone out. "Shit...no call?"

"Nope." Odette mumbles, her voice almost drowned out by the renewed vengeance of the water hitting the trailer. Thunder rumbled through the trailer...only now the thunder didn't cease, it was booming, shaking the entire trailer. Eddie slammed himself into Robin and Odette "Get under the table now!" He reached out for the two youngest teens and shoved them underneath too, the thunder only growing louder as he managed to get them all underneath. Glasses began to shatter as they fell from the shelves, plates and mugs cascading down; tiny fragments flying towards them all, blocked by Eddie in his position at the edge of the table. The violent shaking grew even more harsh, the sound of the fridge crashing forward filling their ears. Light flashed outside, illuminating the trailer through the window...but it wasn't white light like lightning...it was red. Like fire. A monstrous roar filled the night air, fighting for dominance over the heavy rain...and winning out.
