Chapter 45: Rage of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon!

Bolt Tanner considered himself a practical man. He'd been around the block a few times, experiencing both the highs and the lows that society had to offer. He had lived the high life of a professional Duelist, enjoying all the benefits that it had to offer. He had lived the low life of an underground Duelist, scraping barely enough money to make the rent of a one room apartment that month. Tanner had thought he'd seen it all after the mess that was the Dark Signers incident, even if he only caught a glimpse of the madness of the Earthbound Immortals. Then the wave of colorful light had swept through the room he was Dueling in and all hell had broken loose. His opponent ended up transformed into his ace monster, a Curse of Dragon, as well as several other patrons of the underground Duel room transforming into various Duel Monsters, going on a rampage as a result. Tanner had fled the room, looking to get a hold of Yusei to see what the hell he could possibly do about it, but stepping outside had revealed the chaos that had erupted inside was taking place on a much larger scale outside.

"Holy shit," he breathed, frozen in fear as he watched the Mad Flame Kaiju send a blast of blue flames at a Green Baboon holding an Axe of Despair, the two titans clashing fiercely in the middle of New Domino. Other monsters of all kinds were flying about, either fighting one another or causing destruction for the sake of destruction. An explosion of fire from behind him and Tanner turned to see the transformed Curse of Dragon scrabbling out of the stairwell Tanner had just vacated, taking to the skies and screeching a challenge to any monster that would accept it. Tanner could only gape as the diamond dragon Hyozanryu flew over to grapple with the dragon, the two humans-turned-Duel Monsters clashing in a manner that Solid Vision couldn't ever hope to reproduce.

Tanner didn't know if he was going to change as well, and he certainly didn't relish the idea of becoming his Giant Ushi Oni, but for now he had to help others. The former Pro Duelist reflected on how his life had been changed for the better after meeting Yusei Fudo. Six months ago, had this happened, he would've sought shelter immediately, disregarding anybody else left behind in the madness. Now here he was, helping a mother and her infant child out of one of the destroyed buildings and trying to get her to one of the hastily constructed Sector Security shelters. "I sure hope Yusei's able to put a stop to this."

Kaiba paused as he took in the situation. His Shining Dragon had been taken down, the Gravity Blaster attached to Cyber End Dragon managing to negate its effect. His best monster was now sent to the card Graveyard. He had placed his Monster Reborn in Dani's Deck, as well as one other card, and he was going to need to draw that Monster Reborn to have a hope of winning this Duel. He couldn't afford to fall here! Not now!

"Well Kaiba?" Matthias asked rhetorically, his baritone voice as smooth as silk. "Are you going to stare at your Deck all day or will you finally surrender this hopeless Duel? My Cyber End Dragon is only going to get stronger as long as my Gravity Blaster remains equipped to it, and you have no methods to Summon any monster that'll surpass its Attack points anymore."

Kaiba snorted derisively. "Clearly your historical records are inaccurate, as you should know by now that a Kaiba never surrenders!"

Matthias laughed, an unsettling sound from the cyborg as he crossed his arms. "Oh I am well aware of your stubbornness, as well as your unwillingness to accept the supernatural. The surrender offer was merely a courtesy. We may be on opposite sides, where the winner stays alive and the loser loses everything, but that does not mean we can't be civilized about it."

Kaiba growled, noting that the faux civility from Matthias was eerily similar to one of the Big Five board members he'd finally erased while on the way to the Battle City Finals on Alcatraz Island. He couldn't be bothered to remember the man's name, only that it was getting under his skin like few people ever could. "Your so-called-manners are wasted on me, as I really don't care whether you're some upstart gentleman or one of those barbaric Rare Hunters from Egypt, you're going down all the same! It's my turn! I draw!" He glanced at the card, then at the Cyber End Dragon that was giving him as murderous a glare as a robotic three-headed dragon could. Time to get rid of a troublesome card. First things first, the Standby Phase. "I choose not to activate my Azure-Eyes special ability!" Kaiba's gut was telling him not to bring back the Fusion Materials from his Ultimate Dragon. He'd seen the De-Fusion while thumbing through Dani's Deck, and while he hadn't drawn it, it would be useful once he finally pulled out the Monster Reborn.

Matthias watched the proceedings carefully, curious as to what Kaiba was scheming. The few notes he'd gained on that girl's Deck while observing her three Duels against the Chaos Movement, the first being against Hueso, the second being her Tag Duel with Kaiba against Alex and his Six Samurai using brother, and the last being her Tag Duel with Crow against Thomas and Allana, were not enough to formulate what exact strategies that Deck held, asides from being a Blue-Eyes Synchro Deck that had been edited at the last second by Kaiba to include his favorite Blue-Eyes Beatdown strategy of Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon into the Shining Dragon. With the Shining Dragon now defeated and as long as his Cyber End Dragon held on to the Gravity Blaster, he would overpower it with ease. "Afraid of seeing your precious Blue-Eyes slaughtered by my Cyber End Dragon?"

"My strategies aren't so simple," Kaiba snapped back. "I activate the special ability of the Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon! Once per turn, by forfeiting my dragon's ability to attack, he can destroy any one of your monsters on the field! Your Cyber End Dragon is history!" Blue flames began to gather within his dragon's maw, a dangerous glow to all that beheld it. "Go Blue Lightning!"

"I'm not unaware of your Dragon's ability," Matthias said quickly as the Alternative Blue-Eyes reared his head back to fire. "That's why I set this card facedown. I activate the Trap Breakthrough Skill! Now, until the End Phase of this turn, your Dragon's ability is negated!" A quick beam of energy zipped over from the Trap card, striking Kaiba's Dragon in the jaw and forcing his jaws shut just as he was about to fire, causing the flames to end up shooting out harmlessly through Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon's nostrils. The Dragon coughed a few times, clearly not expecting something to interfere with his attack, but remained hovering above Kaiba's head protectively.

Kaiba growled, frustrated at how well-prepared Matthias was. That Trap could've also negated his Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon's abilities. He was as meticulous and organized as Kaiba was when it came to Dueling, leaving few plays to chance and shutting down the opponent at every opportunity. The few "misplays" Matthias had made during this Duel were taunts aimed at Kaiba, intentional screwups flaunting Matthias' so-called superior Deck and Dueling Skills in the face of Kaiba. However, the Kaibacorp executive was not to be outdone. He would survive until Dani's Deck gave him the chance to strike back. "I place one card facedown and end my turn." The brown back of his facedown card hovered in front of him, ready to react when called upon.

The Master's second-in-command tilted his head at Kaiba, glowing orange cybernetic eye seemingly trying to lay him bare under its scrutiny. "My turn then." He drew a card and studied it for a moment. "I'll Normal Summon my Cyber Valley in Attack mode!" A much smaller metal serpent slithered up from underground, red bulbs glowing in rhythm with the lights on Cyber End Dragon.

Cyber Valley: Atk 0, Def 0, LV 1

"Now then Kaiba, as you are painfully aware," Matthias said knowingly, "The Gravity Blaster equipped to my Cyber End Dragon allows me to power it up permanently by four hundred points every turn." The aforementioned Gravity Blaster began to glow brightly, infusing its power with the Fusion Monster it was attached to.

Cyber End Dragon Atk: 4800

"Then bring it on and see if your oversized toy dragon can make a dent!" Kaiba challenged.

Matthias eyed the facedown card on his field, curious as to what it could be that would have the Kaibacorp executive so confident. Perhaps it was a bluff, meant to scare him from attacking. The man had indeed been known to bluff players out of attacking during his heyday back in his era. Kaiba wasn't a man known for using Mirror Force, especially with the Sakurestu Armor that girl had used being nullified earlier in the Duel. His facedown cards were often much deadlier in that regard, but the girl had not displayed any significant battle Traps yet. With Cyber Valley on the field, he could afford to take this minor risk. "Battle! Cyber End Dragon, attack the Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon now! Eternal Evolution Burst!" White hot flames began to gather within all three of his Fusion Monster's metallic mouths.

Kaiba grinned. "As I expected. Now I activate my facedown card, the Quick-Play Magic card Command Silencer!" His card flipped up, turning into a totem pole made of various animals and speakers. The speakers began to play a screeching sound that caused the flames in Cyber End Dragon's jaw to dissipate. "Now your attack command is negated and I get the added benefit of drawing one card from my Deck!"

"Interesting, so you snuck one of your stall cards into her Deck," Matthias surmised. The ability to draw one card while negating an attack was always a useful card to have. "Very well then Kaiba, you have saved most of your remaining Life Points for this turn, let us see if you can draw something that'll turn this Duel around."

Kaiba rolled his eyes as he drew his card from Command Silencer's effect, the totem pole of speakers fading from sight. "You fools always underestimate my Dueling skills. You'll regret letting me have this extra draw!"

"I highly doubt that," Matthias said dryly. "But using someone else's Deck isn't quite the same as using your own, now is it Kaiba?"

"Don't you dare start lecturing me about some 'Heart of the Cards' nonsense," Kaiba warned, his voice dangerously low. "It's bad enough to hear it from Yugi and his nerd crew, I don't need it from some wannabe robo-cop trying to take over Japan."

The cyborg rolled his eyes. He'd heard all sorts of creative insults from the various thugs he'd faced over the years, from those trying to eliminate the Cyber Style of Dueling to recruiting grunts for the Master, 'robo-cop' was among the tamer verbal abuses sent his way. "Perhaps, and yet there remains the key point that every great Duelist over the past century or so has held a great bond with their cards. Very few people can just pick up a random person's Deck and win with it."

"Save it," Kaiba snapped, looking at the card he'd drawn with Command Silencer. Trade-In, a potentially useful card so long as he drew a level eight monster. The Kaibacorp executive hadn't counted the remaining high level monsters in her Deck considering he was searching out his Blue-Eyes White Dragons at the time, but there had to be some in there, as with all the other Blue-Eyes support cards she'd collected for her Deck. It all came down to this draw. His dragons rarely let him down when it came to important draws, now was not the time to start. "It's my turn! I draw!" Kaiba drew the card with his usual flare, ready to play whatever he had.

"So Kaiba, are you continuing to avoid using Azure-Eyes' special ability to resummon your Blue-Eyes, only for them to finally be destroyed by my Cyber End Dragon?" Matthias asked.

"I won't use her ability," Kaiba concurred, "But instead I'll play this Magic Card! Trade-In!"

"So you drew a level eight monster then," Matthias inferred, looking unconcerned.

"Indeed I did," the first Blue-Eyes Duelist said. "I discard the level eight Dragon Spirit of White from my hand in order to draw two more cards from my Deck!" He moved the appropriate cards around, the translucent image of a younger looking Blue-Eyes White Dragon appearing behind him as he drew two more cards. Kaiba looked at the two cards he'd drawn, careful not to give anything away to the attentive cyborg across the field. He'd drawn the Monster Reborn he'd placed in her Deck, but as it was, his Graveyard didn't have anything that could get over the Cyber End Dragon just yet. He could, however, stop it from powering up again. "I activate the Magic card, Stamping Destruction!"

Matthias frowned. Cyber End wasn't going to be getting any more powerups, but it was still stronger than a revived Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon. He was still in firm command, depending on that second card that Kaiba had drawn. "So be it then."

"Since I control a Dragon-type monster, I can now destroy one of your Spell or Trap cards and then inflict five hundred points of damage to you!" Kaiba explained. "Now Azure-Eyes! Destroy that Gravity Blaster!" Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon reared up from her defense position, sending a blast from her jaw that destroyed the Gravity Blaster hovering in front of Cyber End Dragon, the shards of said Blaster pinging off of Matthias' outstretched arm, raised to ward off the incoming debris.

Matthias LP: 2800

"Quaint," the cyborg commented, unamused by the turn of events. "Anything else Kaiba?"

The Kaibacorp executive looked at the Monster Reborn in his hand, his trump card for turning this Duel around. The timing would have to be perfect in using it, and this was not it. However, he did have his Dragon's ability. "You may have negated it last turn, but this turn he can still forfeit his ability to attack this turn in order to destroy your Cyber End Dragon!" Kaiba's Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon roared, a dangerous blue glow beginning to glow in the dragon's throat.

"I don't think so," Matthias countered. "I activate the Graveyard effect of my Trap, Breakthrough Skill! Now by banishing this card from my Graveyard, I can once again negate the ability of your Alternative White Dragon for the turn." Like before, a shockwave emanated from the cyborg's Duel Disk, this time originating from the Graveyard, and like before the Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon was forced to slam his jaw shut. The Dragon looked very affronted by being denied twice in as many turns. "My Cyber End Dragon is safe!"

"But your Life Points aren't!" Kaiba said, seizing the opportunity. "My Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon's abilities may have been negated, but since I technically never activated his ability he's now allowed to attack this turn, and your Cyber Valley is sitting wide open in Attack mode, waiting for me to wipe out the remainder of your Life Points! Battle!"

"I can assure you Kaiba, that things will not go the way you think," Matthias said sagely. Inwardly, he berated himself for assuming Kaiba was activated his dragon's ability. He knew Kaiba had a way with words during a Duel, but had thought the loss of his Shining Dragon would've taken the wind out of Kaiba's sails. Still, it was a minor misplay in the grand scheme of the Duel, as he had an out for the Alternative White Dragon's attack.

"Go Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon!" Kaiba shouted. "End this Duel! Burn Stream of Destruction!" Blue-Eye Alternative White Dragon reared up, blue flames frothing about his maw.

"Cyber Valley's effect activates!" Matthias interrupted as the Alternative White Dragon finally got to send a blast of blue energy towards the diminutive machine monster. "I can banish this card from the field to end the Battle Phase, then I get to draw one card!" Just before the blast could connect Cyber Valley faded from sight, leaving behind a very miffed Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon who roared to vent his frustration at being constantly thwarted.

Kaiba scowled, similarly irritated like his Dragon. "A lucky move."

"A calculated move," Matthias said simply, looking at the card he'd drawn in the meantime. Cybernetic Revolution was a decent card, one that would be kept as a last resort move. He'd have to see what he drew from his Deck once his turn started. "Now end your turn Kaiba, unless you have some other wild move with that last card in your hand!"

The first Blue-Eyes Duelist stared at his Monster Reborn. Now wasn't the time to use it. He had enough Life Points for now. It all came down to whether or not Matthias drew a card that could power up his machines. He'd seen Machine Duelists like Bandit Keith use Limiter Removal to great effect, and he had no way of blocking any incoming attack. "I end my turn."

"Then it's my move!" Matthias declared. "I draw!" He looked at the card, allowing a flicker of frustration to pass through him. De-Fusion would've been useful against the Ultimate Dragon earlier, but such was the way of the Duelist. Since Kaiba was so keen on trying to use the Alternative White Dragon's ability, as well as refusing to use his Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon's abilities to their fullest, he might as well take out the one monster left in Kaiba's current arsenal that could remove his Fusion Monster. "Battle! Cyber End Dragon, attack his Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon now! Eternal Evolution Burst!" With a metallic roar, his Cyber End Dragon launched three humongous fireballs, one from each of its three heads, which combined together into one massive blast that completely disintegrated Kaiba's Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon, the explosion enough to send Kaiba skidding backwards into the computer wall of Matthias' room.

Kaiba LP: 100

"I'll set two cards facedown and end my turn," Matthias concluded, the two cards hovering in front of him innocently.

'Knowing him, those cards are probably plays that'll shut down whatever comeback attempt I make,' Kaiba thought to himself as he fought his aching muscles to stay upright. This Duel, this entire misadventure was taking its toll on him, but he wasn't going to give up. He never gave up. "It's my turn," he began quietly, placing two fingers on top of his Deck. It was all or nothing. Unbeknownst to him, as the first Blue-Eyes Duelist had closed his eyes, the top card of his Deck began to glow silver, the powers of chaos that swirled about the room concentrating onto his Deck. "I draw!" Kaiba opened his eyes, concerned as to what he was about to get. From what he'd seen of Dani's Deck, there were few cards that would turn this Duel around, but he wasn't going to quit! His eyes widened as he took in the card and its effects.

"Do you activate your Azure-Eyes' effect?" Matthias asked, noting Kaiba's reaction to the card and trying to remain unconcerned about the sudden power shift within this room.

"No," Kaiba said after a long pause, meeting the cyborg's gaze. "I do not."

"Just know that that was the fourth Standby Phase after you've activated your Card of Demise," Matthias pointed out. "Next turn, you'll have to discard your entire hand come your Standby Phase."

"Well then," the Kaibacorp executive began with a smirk. "It's a good thing we're not going to reach my next Standby Phase then."

The Master's second-in-command blinked. "Excuse me?"

"You heard me," Kaiba snapped holding up a card in the hand that held the Duel Disk. Using his other hand, Kaiba turned the Synchro Monster on his Duel Disk ninety degrees. "First, I switch my Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon from Defense into Attack mode!" The Synchro Monster that represented an evolution of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon stood upright, flaring her wings out and roaring a challenge to the metal behemoth of a three-headed dragon.

Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon Atk: 2500

"Going to go out on your own terms then?" Matthias queried, uncertain as to where using Azure-Eyes on the offensive was going to lead. "That does certainly fit your psychological profile."

"You wish that was the case," Kaiba snarled as he finally put the card he'd drawn into his Duel Disk. "But I don't need to commit suicide in order to spite you of claiming victory. I activate this Magic card, Cards of the White Stone!"

Matthias was genuinely surprised. "You've never played that card before!"

"After I'm done explaining it to you, you're going to wish you'd never seen it!" Kaiba declared. "First, in order to activate this card's effect, I can't have activated any Monster effects beforehand. For the rest of this turn, I can't activate any Monster effects either. Additionally, I can only summon Light Attribute Dragon type monsters the turn I activate this card!"

"Those are some hefty restrictions," Matthias murmured. He raised his voice, addressing Kaiba. "And what does placing all those restraints upon yourself enable you to do?"

"Before I can enjoy the benefits of this card, I must first banish one Level one Light Attribute Tuner monster and one Level eight or higher Light Attribute Dragon type monster from my Graveyard!" Kaiba informed the cyborg. "I banish the Maiden with Eyes of Blue and my Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon from the card Graveyard!" A translucent image of both monsters appeared above him as his Duel Disk ejected the named cards from his Graveyard. Kaiba spared them both an extra glance before pocketing the two cards.

"But why would you banish your Shining Dragon?!" Matthias asked, alarm bells going off in his mind. This was not how he had anticipated this Duel going, as Kaiba was always one to place an emphasis on power, especially when he could potentially revive the Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon.

"Now that I've banished the appropriate monsters," Kaiba said, "I can now draw three cards from my Deck!"

'Another card to replenish his hand?' Matthias thought, 'Pot of Greed, Card of Demise, Trade-In, now this? Kaiba is definitely an expert at trying to maximize what he can pull from his Deck.'

Kaiba looked at the Deck in his Duel Disk. It all came down to this final draw. He glanced at his hand, clenching his fist. It was now or never. "Awaken now! The blue flame that resides in her Deck! DRAW!" Kaiba did notice the blue trails of flame that followed his cards after his dramatic draw, but he was beyond caring at this point. It was time for his revenge as he looked at the cards he'd pulled. Perfect. "I activate the Magic of Monster Reborn!"

'So he finally got his revival card,' Matthias thought to himself. 'And he must have pulled a power up card from his Deck.'

"Be revived my ultimate servant!" Kaiba yelled. "Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon!" A massive pillar of light struck the ground behind him, silhouetting the Kaibacorp executive in its shadow. Matthias shielded his biological eye from the sudden increase in luminosity, his mechanical eye observing the formation of Kaiba's beloved Fusion Monster. The light faded shortly afterwards, allowing him to look upon the revived Ultimate Dragon with both eyes, and one didn't have to be cybernetically enhanced to tell him that dragon was furious.

Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon: Atk 4500, Def 3800, LV 12

"Well then Kaiba," Matthias began as the two three-headed dragons faced off against each other, one of blood and scales, the other of metal and wires. "You have your Dragon back from the Graveyard, but it still comes up short against my Cyber End Dragon. What will you do?"

"Battle!" Kaiba declared much to the cyborg's surprise.

'If that Deck holds an attack boosting monster similar to Honest, then I'm doomed,' Matthias thought to himself. 'I can't wait because I won't be able to respond during the Damage Step.' He cleared his throat, ignoring the dryness starting in the back. "I won't allow you to declare an attack with your Ultimate Dragon Kaiba, for I now activate my facedown card, the Quick-Play Spell De-Fusion, splitting up your Ultimate Dragon into the three cards used to Summon it!" His card flipped upright, the magical energies flowing towards Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon and forcefully separating each of its heads until it was once again three dragons, all poised and ready to strike regardless.

Blue-Eyes White Dragon x3: Atk 3000, Def 2500, LV 8

"I've let them stay in Attack mode as another way to highlight how helpless you are against me!" Matthias intoned, addressing Kaiba once again as though he were teaching him one final lesson. "Your power fails against the Cyber Style honed by multiple generations!"

"Oh really?" Kaiba asked, his smile getting wider. "Are you sure about that?"

Matthias hesitated, not sure where Kaiba's confidence was stemming from. Sure, he had three cards left in his hand, but if he held an Honest then he would still survive the turn and be ready to strike back. "What?"

"You may have thought yourself the victor when you played De-Fusion," Kaiba began, "But my Life Points aren't zero and my hand still has cards to play! You're a fool, Matthias, a senile old man desperately searching for immortality from the coattails of a madman! And I have just the cards to put you down once and for all! I activate my own Quick-Play Magic De-Fusion! Just like you split up my Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon into the three original Dragons, I'll split up your Cyber End Dragon into the three Cyber Dragons used to create it, also in Attack mode!"

Matthias remained steadfast as a similar reaction was induced in his own Fusion Monster, the energies of the Spell forcefully splitting it apart until three Cyber Dragons were on the field.

Cyber Dragons x3: Atk 2100, Def 1600, LV 5

"Now my Dragons, prepare to Attack!" Kaiba shouted, holding his fist in the air. "Prepare to take your revenge!"

"I don't think so Kaiba," Matthias said, playing the last card he had available to him. "I reveal my Trap card, Cybernetic Revolution!" One of the Cyber Dragons on Matthias' Field seemed to explode, armor and wires floating above the head of the cyborg.

Kaiba hesitated, the energy in his Blue-Eyes White Dragon's mouths disappearing for the time being. "What is your Trap doing to your Cyber Dragon?!"

"My Trap requires me to Tribute a Cyber Dragon on my Field," Matthias explained. "In exchange I can Special Summon one Fusion Monster from my Extra Deck that lists a Cyber Dragon as one of its materials, but because I am bringing out this monster via Cybernetic Revolution, the Special Summoned Monster is unable to attack directly and is destroyed during the End Phase of the next turn." He held up a single finger as the parts swirling above his head began to morph, growing in size and coming together to form a shape that was rapidly becoming very familiar to the first Blue-Eyes Duelist. "You may destroy my remaining two Cyber Dragons with your Blue-Eyes, but you no longer have enough firepower to get over my reborn Cyber End Dragon!" With a final click, the last piece of the original Cyber Dragon settled in on the neck of the central Cyber End Dragon's head. His Fusion Monster punctuated that statement with a roar that shook the entire room.

Cyber End Dragon: Atk 4000, Def 2800, LV 10

"This Duel is over!" Matthias declared dramatically, pointing at his opponent. "You've failed Seto Kaiba, now attack me! Destroy those other Cyber Dragons! It's all you can do! Your struggle is pointless!"

Kaiba gazed at the cyborg for a long time, his face void of any emotion. "Pointless, you say?" He smiled, closing his eyes. "Yes, I suppose your calculations would tell you that. We do share some similarities, loathe as I am to admit it." Kaiba opened his eyes again, anger forming on his features. "We are men of science, of technology, and of progress. But you are in this to keep yourself alive! I am doing this to erase the stain of the man who I am ashamed to call my father!"

"Yes, you do erase his legacy quite thoroughly," Matthias agreed with a tilt of his head.

"That's not the point," Kaiba snapped. "I really couldn't care less about whatever future you're trying to bring here. I have very few things that I do care about." He held up a finger. "My brother." A second finger. "My company." A third finger. "My dragons. The very creatures that your pathetic machines are trying to replicate." His fingers clenched into a fist as Kaiba's face morphed into a scowl. "I'm not afraid to die. I know that my legacy will be like none other. And that legacy includes my Blue-Eyes White Dragons. They will have their revenge for what you've done!"

Matthias raised an eyebrow. "So will you at least admit that you have feelings for the girl?"

It amused the Master's second in command to see a vein bulge on Kaiba's forehead, even if he composed himself just as quickly. "That's not what I meant and you know it." The Kaibacorp executive took a deep breath, honing his rage towards his foe. "She was the only one holding up the legacy of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon in this future. That is enough to earn my attention. Her skills using the Blue-Eyes White Dragon do need some refinement, but I considered her a worthy heir after all I'd seen from her. Your cowardly attempt to take out Yusei and Yugi with explosives shows that you don't have the heart of a True Duelist. She died because of your gutless move to take out a Duelist with something other than cards. This era lost a Duelist who was mindful of the past while looking to the future of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon because of you!" Kaiba plucked one of the last two cards in his hand and held it up, the iconic brown back facing Matthias. "And this card will put you in your place you sniveling sycophant!"

"What could you possibly play that would end this Duel this turn?!" Matthias demanded, now concerned. What was it if not an Honest?

Kaiba flipped the card around, the card artwork depicting a Blue-Eyes White Dragon blasting an unfortunate duo of Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl. "This! The Quick-Play Magic card aptly named Revenge of the White Dragon!"

Matthias' eyes widened. Another card that wasn't in the database, and with a name like that, it could only mean trouble. "How?"

"I discard one Dragon-type Monster from my hand to activate this card," Kaiba explained. He held up the other card in his hand, revealing it to be a Decoy Dragon. A translucent Decoy Dragon appeared behind him briefly, warbling something before darting into the Graveyard as Kaiba placed the card in the appropriate slot. "Then I choose one Light-Attribute Dragon-type monster on my Field. It now gains the ability to attack all your monsters on the Field!"

Matthias blinked. That wasn't the effect he was expecting. He wasn't able to get over his Cyber End Dragon with that effect. All that would happen would be the destruction of his other two Cyber Dragons, which wouldn't be enough to wipe out the rest of his Life Points. "What even is the point of this?"

Kaiba ignored him. "At the End Phase of this turn, that Dragon-Type Monster is destroyed and I take damage equal to the combined Attack points of all Dragon Types on the Field!"

"That's all?" Matthias asked, ignored the bead of sweat that rolled down the side of his forehead as he fought to hold back a sigh of relief. "That's done nothing to overcome my Cyber End Dragon! You're committing suicide!"

Kaiba smirked. "The most important effect of Revenge of the White Dragon allows me to double the Attack points of the selected monster!"

Matthias' mouth dropped open in shock. That was a nasty drawback for a card that functioned similarly to Limiter Removal, but just how he had avoided the drawbacks of such a card by winning before it would ever come to pass, Kaiba was about to do the same to him. "So this is how it ends," he murmured to himself, crossing his arms and composing himself. "I suppose it's poetic in a way." There was no anger, no vowing of vengeance for this defeat. Matthias accepted his loss calmly. He'd played his part in this tale, having tried to make a deal with a devil in the Master. It had gotten him far, but not far enough.

"I choose the Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon and double her attack points!" Kaiba shouted, pointing at the Synchro Monster. Azure-Eyes roared as a silver aura infused her body, power surging throughout the room.

Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon Atk: 5000

Matthias wasn't surprised at Kaiba's selection. The irony of it wasn't lost on him. "Well played Kaiba. Perhaps in the next life."

"I'm going to blast you so thoroughly there won't be a next life for you!" Kaiba yelled. "Azure-Eyes, attack his Cyber End Dragon now! Radiant Silver Burst Stream!" The Synchro Dragon flew into the air, silver energy gathering within her mouth. With a furious roar, Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon blasted a titanic beam that pierced through the heart of Cyber End Dragon, the Fusion Monster exploding from the power behind the attack.

Matthias LP: 1800

"Come Kaiba," Matthias invited calmly. "I am not afraid of the inevitable. While I may fall here, the Master will still put a stop to you and your friends."

"They aren't my friends," Kaiba snapped. "Merely accomplices."

"Semantics," Matthias shrugged, holding his arms out to invite the attack in. "Regardless of your relationship with the Signers and Yugi, your group will fall at the hands of the Master. It's a pity that I shan't be around to see it." His face showed remorse for a moment. "But I've lived a long life. Longer than most people should. I shall go to my eternal rest satisfied with what I've done. Will you be able to say the same?"

Kaiba snorted. "I've already done more in two decades than most people in their entire lives. I'll have plenty of time to add to the legacy and make 'Seto Kaiba' a name that will be spoken of centuries from now!" He held his fist in the air above his head. "Hit him again Azure-Eyes! Destroy those eyesores of machines now! Radiant Silver Burst Stream!" Azure-Eyes was more than happy to follow that command, hovering above the remaining two Cyber Dragons and blasting both to smithereens. She roared, shaking the entire room as Matthias stood stoically, taking the blast calmly.

"And so it ends," Matthias said to himself quietly, watching his flesh hand starting to turn to metal. "At the very least my Cyber dojo has what it takes to survive." Kaiba's shouts got his attention.

"Now my three Blue-Eyes! Send this fool into oblivion now! the Kaibacorp Executive shouted.

"But the Duel is over?" Matthias gasped as the other three dragons on Kaiba's side of the field began to gather energy in their maws. He stiffened as he felt more and more of his body converting into metal.

"Revenge of the White Dragon has one condition where the Duel isn't over until every Dragon monster I control has attacked," Kaiba snarled. "It reminds me of Yugi's Berserker Soul, and it's just as fitting that the Blue-Eyes White Dragons also get to blast you until nothing remains. Now my three Blue-Eyes! Finish him! Triple Burst Stream of Destruction!" The last thing Matthias would ever see was the blinding flash of the attacks of three enraged Blue-Eyes White Dragons.

Kaiba turned away from the crater where the Master's second-in-command once stood. A door had opened as soon as the Life Points of Matthias had hit zero, leading to an office of some sort. Kaiba peered inside, wondering if there was anything of value in there. A computer sat on a desk in the corner, wires connecting it to the machinery that had made most of the other room. On the large monitor, a video feed played a Duel, one that caught Kaiba's attention immediately. "That's Yugi and Yusei! They're Dueling the Master!" He watched as the Winged Dragon of Ra emerged from its Sphere Mode in front of the Master. "Hmph. They better not screw this up." He would play the role of bystander for now. If those two failed, then he would gladly step in and show them who the superior Duelist was.

And thus, the revenge of the first Blue-Eyes Duelist is now complete. You can leave your "F"s in the review section for Matthias to pay respects. As for the ramifications of what this Duel shall bring for the timeline, that shall be revealed in due time. With this Duel completed, next chapter we'll see just how Akiza's Duel against the ninja and the samurai ends! Hope you all enjoyed the chapter!

Question of the Chapter: If Yu-gi-oh! ever did a "What If" series, what potential hypothetical would you like to see? It could be something simple, like "What if Kaiba got Slifer instead of Obelisk to kick off Battle City?" or "what if Joey managed to call out the final attack against Marik?" or something that completely changes the series like "What if Aster Phoenix took over the protagonist role from Jaden in GX after defeating him?" or "What if Luna and Akiza had the other's powers in the 5D's storyline?" What kind of a "What If" scenario would you like to see?

Response to Guest Reviews:

Isco: Thanks for the kind words my friend! I've put a lot of work into this story (that's rapidly turning into a potential series) and I'm proud of it! I'm really enjoying exploring the personalities of the characters I've come to love over the years, having interactions with characters we never would've seen interact in the first place, adding my own character to the franchise (and having her well received is a bonus), and making these fun Duels for others to enjoy! While Yusei and the others aren't going to go back to Yugi's era, the Signers will get to interact with Yugi and Kaiba again during the Zexal era due to other shenanigans, so I'll get to have more fun with that! Mokuba will not be along though, so your suggested crush won't work, as mildly intriguing as the thought is. But I hope to hear from you again!

Harrison: The problem with getting into ARC-V is not only the dimensions being their own thing, but the ARC-V anime itself suffered from too many characters to try and give attention to, it's going to be crowded enough in Chaos Incarnate. It's an interesting idea to think about, but I've already learned about biting off more than I can chew. I appreciate the kind words though, and hope to hear from you in future chapters!

J Alvarez: Thanks for the review, I'm trying to get these out as fast as I can with all I can to keep my head above water in these crazy times.

Guest (who reviewed on chapter 2): I'm aware of that fact now, but when I started planning this story wayyyyy back in 2013 (when Azure-Eyes was first released), I didn't do enough research and just went with a gap that I thought would be appropriate for the technological advances we see in 5D's (infinite clean energy in EnerD or Momentum, whichever you prefer, the state of old Domino being in ruins (now the Satellite), etc). It wasn't til the story was well and truly under way that I learned that Trudge was the same bully that beat up Yugi and co back in high school. By then, it was too late, but I'll probably retcon it into something smaller like 100 years and have Trudge be Ushio's grandson (or son), whatever fits better. At the very least, it hasn't hurt the story all that much.
