They spent the day by the pool dosing, reading, watching Netflix on a tablet or playing cards, Liam and Eleanor taking it in turns to go and get them drinks. When it came time for dinner, Eleanor, once again attempted to cook for them, which resulted in a burnt mess in a pan and an order for Chinese food.
Liam and Eleanor were just clearing up before heading to bed, when the door opened and Elizabeth walked in.
"A girl could get used to this, though what is that smell?"
"That smell is Len's attempt at cooking for the second time today." Liam told her
"Did it taste better than it smelled?"
"We ordered Chinese" Eleanor admitted.
"Oh, before I forget, here is your diplomatic bag." Elizabeth said, holding it out. Eleanor took it and immediately went to go put it in her room, leaving Liam and Elizabeth.
"How's he been?"
"He's in a massive amount of pain, having nightmares, but he's Jasper. Come on, let me show you where you're sleeping"
"Excellent. I could use an early night"
"It's nearly midnight?"
"I'm a chef. I don't get to bed on most nights until 2am"
Jasper was walking his beloved dog through the palace grounds. She was running ahead, and then back to him to make sure he was still with her. As he got to the edge of the Palace grounds, he entered a woodland. A woodland he had walked countless times before and knew without a shadow of a doubt it was safe, however, within minutes, he had entered what should have been a way through the trees, but turned into a tunnel at the base of a mountain. He kept following the tunnel and it quickly transpired that he was in a fully functioning coal mine. As he walked around the edge of the mine, he found himself in another passage, which opened out onto a path with swimming pool sized pits, filled with a white, murky liquid. His dog, seeing the liquid, ran straight for it and jumped.
Jasper woke up with a start, absolutely confused over his dream, as he had never owned a dog in his life, nor had he ever visited any form of mine.
Jasper, Eleanor and Liam woke up the next morning to the most tantalising smell travelling through the villa. They slowly made their way to the kitchen and saw Elizabeth casually shaking a pan.
"Pancakes?" Eleanor asked
"Yes, with bacon, eggs, sausage and maple syrup. If you want fruit with it, let me know" Elizabeth responded, flipping the pancakes.
"I think I'm in love with you, sorry Jasper." Eleanor said, dropping onto a stool at the breakfast bar.
"Me too" Liam joked, sitting next to Eleanor.
Jasper rolled his eyes, but joined them at the breakfast bar.
"They didn't tell me you were coming, Liv."
"It was a last minute decision. So who wants what?" Elizabeth asked, flipping the pancakes a second time.
"Umm... I don't know. Fruit I guess?" Eleanor said hesitantly.
"I'll have the bacon, eggs and sausage please." Liam added.
"Me too."
"Know what, I'll try the sausage and bacon and whatever" Eleanor said, changing her mind.
Elizabeth opened the drawer below the oven and removed four plates. She set three in front of Liam, Jasper and Eleanor, and the fourth in front of her. She then removed a stack of pancakes from the oven and tossed them onto the plates. She then served sausages and bacon in serving bowls.
Then she cracked some eggs in the frying pan, quickly scrambled them and split it into four.
There was silence as they all took the food they wanted, poured syrup over them and began to eat.
After breakfast, Liam helped Elizabeth clean up, while Eleanor helped Jasper move outside and take his stronger pain killers.
Eleanor and Elizabeth had left the boys at the villa and had gone into town to do some shopping. They were sat at a coffee shop, bags piled to each side of both of them, and they were sat having a coffee.
"So tell me, Len. What's going on with you and my brother?"
"What makes you think something is..."
Eleanor faulted as Elizabeth raised her eyebrows and smirked at her.
"You already know don't you?"
"Duh. It's quite obvious that you're together, but I think my question should be, how do you feel about my brother?"
"I love him, but things are complicated. He can't be sanctioned by the Palace, and not because of his past, but because he is, how do I phrase it without it sounding offensive?"
"A commoner?"
Elizabeth laughed at the shocked look on Eleanor's face.
"I know a little bit about high society" she explained "Until my husband died, I was part of high society. Hated every minute of it. Only put up with it for him, and dropped out of society when he died."
"You were part of high society? How? And why do I not remember you?"
"My husband. Viscount Anthony Burr? I was also very adept at blending in at events. You're easy to spot when you're surrounded by people like you always are. You know, when you danced with Jasper at the masquerade last year, before you pulled him out of the room, was the first time I had seen him since I left Vegas."
"You were there?"
"Like I said, I blend in well. But, may I ask. If he asked, would you say yes?"
Len let out a short, soft chuckle.
"In a heartbeat. But he's never going to be officially sanctioned, so I'm not going to hold my breathe. Why do you ask?"
"Curiosity."
"No... there is a reason, and I will find it out. Does Jasper know you're a Viscountess?"
"He knows I married a Lord. Don't know if he has quite realised the Lord was a Viscount." Elizabeth told her with a devious grin.
Eleanor snorted into her drink.
"What's so funny?"
"You may be Viscountess Burr, but you're also Lady Burr. Makes you Ladyburred."
Elizabeth simply groaned.
"If it makes you feel any better, Jasper was renamed Mr. Caterpillar by Sarah-Alice, and she calls Liam 'Not Jasper'
"So other than allowing Mr. Caterpillar time to recover, what exactly is the plan here? Or is it quite literally lounging by the pool for two weeks?"
"We didn't exactly plan this trip with much thought. Was more 'lets get Jasper away from the Palace to heal' and arguing with James about security."
"That much, Princess, is glaringly obvious"
A/N: I had a dream similar to this one, except it was my local park, and I did have a Border Collie who was with me in the dream. The liquid in the dream is Brine, which can only be located in one area of England - Cheshire. I do not live in Cheshire.
I woke up absolutely convinced there was a working coal and brine pit in my local park, but somehow, I knew my dog had passed ages before the dream!
