Chapter 6
"And we got to ride back on the ranger's boat," Ferdie said, finishing the story to Mickey and Minnie sitting on the Rabbit's sofa.
"26 wanted to ride his boat back but the sun was almost gone so Uncle Oswald said no," Morty added. "Those rangers were impressed when we told them he built it."
"Sounds like something you normally get tangled up in," Minnie said with a smile as she looked at Mickey.
"Runs in the family, I guess," Mickey said with a laugh.
"You're not gonna tell Mom, are you?" Ferdie asked, looking up at the two older mice.
Morty looked to his brother, the realization just hitting him, before he looked back up at the two.
Minnie turned to Mickey, concern visible on her face.
"Well, we'll have to tell her something," Mickey admitted. His brows furled as he thought through things. "She might have to know about some things. The fact that you helped capture robbers and that you just ran into them, but maybe we'll leave out the fact that they had a gun."
"Thank you, Uncle Mickey!" Morty exclaimed.
"Like we want your parents keeping you away from your dangerous uncles," Ortensia said, crossing her arms as she leaned against the living room doorframe. "At least I wanna see you two."
"Like we can help what happens around us," Mickey defended. He looked back down at the mice sitting on cushions on the floor as he added, "Yeah, she'll be fine as long as we leave that part out."
"It's not like it'll make much of a difference in a couple of weeks," 26 said, looking up from his tablet as he sat on the fireplace hearth. Finding all eyes on him, he added, "The summer'll be over. Aunt Amelia and Uncle Andrew will be back and Morty and Ferdie will have to go back to Quackville. And by next summer I don't think it'll really matter because they won't have any excuse for them to stay with Uncle Mickey."
Oswald looked at his son in surprise, not expecting his normally troublesome child to have thought through all of that. He looked over at Ortensia, seeing she had dropped her arms to her side as she stared at her son. Turning her eyes to the sofa she said, "Mickey, I think it's time we told them."
"Amelia's gonna kill me, but yeah, you might be right," Mickey said with a sigh.
"Tell them what?" Oswald asked, confused about what the two were talking about.
"Sorry bunny," Ortensia said with a small smile on her face as she turned her eyes to him. "Amelia didn't want the kids knowing so she decided it best not to tell you. I wasn't even supposed to know."
Mickey looked down at the twins and said, "You mom and Andrew have been working this summer to move to Mouseton. A few weeks ago they found a house and it'll be ready to move into next month."
"It means for the first month or so of school you'll be packing and unpacking," Minnie pointed out. "But the house is a few streets behind mine. Close enough you can ride your bikes up here."
"And you'll be going to McDuck elementary," Ortensia said. She let out a laugh as she added, "With about fifty of your cousins."
"Isn't that the school I'm going to?" 26 asked, tilting his head as he looked up at his mother.
"I think so," Ortensia said with a nod.
26 looked over at his cousins and smiled. "Cool."
