If you lived at the academy year round you would quickly have the date August 24 memorized because every year on that date the year ones arrived. Where I lived with my foster mom Victoria Hand; the head of the academy it was only ever elite students in this housing group. There were five different levels at the academy: introductory level, developing level, proficient level, advanced level and the top level, the elites.

"Hey Birdie," My foster mother said as I walked into our kitchen. Due to her high ranking Victoria was given her own house and she always let me stay in my room rather than my dorm over the summers and over the weekends, but she said I needed to be a good role model for the other students (like that would ever happen) and stay in my dorm on campus for the rest of the time.

"Who can get up this early everyday, it's inhuman." I moaned. Before I came to shield I worked for a circus, in turn they would give me three meals and a bed. Now that I was in the custody of the head of shield academy things were looking up. Which always became obvious sitting down at the table in the morning (my friends would call it noon) around eleven and eating a home cooked meal.

Victoria or Vicky as I called her gave me a pat on my shoulder. "Better get used to it Clint, the new kids come today and the rest come in a week for classes."

"Ughh" I complained, (turns out that was something I did a lot.)

"That's what most other students sound like after they are forced through the tests every year."

It was meant to reprimand me but it didn't work, "Sucks to be them. We're on the course all summer, it's perfectly fair."

Vicky elbowed me lightly in the ribs but rubbed a smudge off my cheek immediately after, "I've got to meet up with the Director now. Don't cause too much trouble on the new kids."

"That's a lot to ask of me."

I made my way to the back doors of the main building at the academy. Only staff, agents and faculty were aloud in and out of here, but if you waited for the right chance anyone could sneak in. The door swung open and just as it was about to shut I grabbed it and snuck through shutting it quietly behind me. Looking around to make sure no one had noticed my presence in the musky room. It was all concrete back here, metal storage shelves lined the walls with random items shoved on. There were about five doors lining the walls, they all lead to rooms that have been forgotten (I checked at my first year here.)

I made my way down the dreary hall and went through the last door, which I knew would lead me to the rest of the school. There was a small shuffle from behind the corner I was standing going to round causing me to stop. "Is someone there?" I asked cautiously.

There was no response, but I was doubtful I wish I'd brought my bow. I walked slowly toward the corner causing someone to run away. It was probably Rumlow or one of his stupid STRIKE squad friends.

(There are four groups of kids at the academy who all compete against each other twice a year in a set of competitions. STRIKE, SHIELD, Enhanced, and HYDRA.)

Once I got to Vicky's office I let myself relax in her sofa. I hated introductory days, for some reason year ones always thought they ruled the school. Soon I would prank them enough to make them realize that they needed to earn that position.

Natasha had refused to print out the list of incoming students (She had somehow found out the password to the records). So I would have to just figure out who to prank soon enough.

As you could probably tell Barton will pull a LOT of pranks.

"You're not supposed to be in here" Peggy Carter said after somehow sneaking up on me.

"Shouldn't you be giving a speech." I rebutted. Peggy had always gone easy on me, I knew she didn't really care that I was in here.

"Yes I should, Hand thought I should ask you to come outside, Maria already gave her speech, I'm sure you could introduce yourself and welcome the year ones." She told me.

"Just cause Maria does it doesn't me I have to. Plus the Director didn't say I had to give a speech, just Maria, he's not in charge of me."

"He's not in charge of Maria either." I shrugged one shoulder, causing Peggy to role her eyes before continuing, "But it's your foster mother who's in charge of the school and you."

I sighed, she had a point. But I had one more idea, "Why doesn't Nat have to?" I smirked.

"Natasha's 15 and she's technically a year one too."

"She lives here."

"So"

"Fine"

I followed Peggy out of the front door and moved to stand by Vicky who gave me a small smile and patted my shoulder. I was able to see an entire group of 15 or 16 year ones. Pierce (An older man who knew the Director well and who was on the World Security Council), Sharon Carter, Peggy, Vicky, Director Fury and Maria all stood on the stage as well.

When I caught Maria's eye her face held a hint of amusement that you could only see once you knew her well enough. Was it so funny that Peggy had gotten me on the stage. Vicky gave me a nod and I started my speech or what I'd come up with. "Hello, I'm Clint Barton and I'm the Captain of the archery team." I didn't really want everyone knowing I was the principles foster son. Although something told me that it wouldn't be long before someone found out about it. "Welcome to shield academy." I ended it there not feeling like dragging on with some boring crap I could have probably added in.

The year ones applauded and Vicky continued on talking. I scanned the crowd of incoming elites, most of them looked like their egos could be taken down a few notches. I spotted one kid who didn't look like he was from around here, he must have been around 6'4 and probably lifted twice my weight when he was 8, he had shoulder length blonde hair and wore a strange outfit, like a Halloween costume. There was a younger boy standing next to him, he was smaller and had shoulder length black hair, their was a slightly evil and very mischievous look in his eyes. (Honestly Loki probably won't be a major part of this story, but it was something I thought to add.)

Suddenly Natasha came out of the door breaking me out of my thoughts, walking up to the Director she told him something and stood back down (She had to tiptoe to tell him whatever it was). The Director nodded and motioned both of the girls standing next to him inside. They were both a little reluctant but went inside.

The Director interrupted Vicky's speech, "Ok, I need everyone to follow agent Coulson inside, we have a code yellow."
