Eira Byrnison Chapter 6
The next day is business as per usual.
It is still early in the morning so Iorek hasn't been needed to head to the forges as of yet.
Eira is currently in the process of giving Torsten an early morning bath while Iorek is preoccupied with digging through a scrap pile for any metal fragments that may perhaps be useful in today's work hours, double checking their dexterity. Torsten is being very fidgety, squirming and wriggling underneath her paws.
"The longer you fight me the longer it'll be until you get to play," reproached Eira, gently.
Much to his mother's amusement Torsten freezes and allows her to finish. Just as he starts playing with the leftover seal bone he keeps as a toy Eira hears small footsteps on the wind approaching closer and closer to them. Eira stiffens before realizing their visitors are the little girl Lyra and her daemon.
"Iorek," said Eira, alerting him.
"I know," answers Iorek, not diverting from his task at hand.
Raising her voice loud enough so that the child can hear, Eira said "We know you're there, Lyra. There's no need to hide. We will not hurt you. Why have you come to us again, Child?"
Lyra and Pantalaimon cautiously step out into the open where they can be seen.
Not beating around the bush about their purpose here, Lyra announces "I know where your armor is, Iorek Byrnison. Or at least I know how to find it."
Raising his head in barely concealed interest, doubtful, Iorek said "How could you know where it is?"
Casting a confused glance toward the various sources of metal surrounding them, Lyra said "I don't understand. Why don't you just make some more armor out of this metal here?"
Angrily swiping at the pieces in front of him, Iorek growled "It's worthless! My armor is made of sky iron, and it was made for me, by me. I have spent months looking for it. How have you found it?"
Eira isn't all too worried about Iorek harming the child. She's well aware he will not do so, not to a young cub. Even a human. But since Lyra doesn't know that Eira is impressed she can stand her ground in face of Iorek's challenge towards her as he moves ever closer. Staring the child down, testing her metal.
Lyra meets him in the middle pulling something small out from her satchel. When she holds it before them in the light both Eira and Iorek recognize the device for what it is.
An alethiometer.
Against their will, a surprised expression crosses their faces.
Alethiometers across the globe were supposed to either be destroyed or in possession of the Magisterium. For this child to have somehow obtained one is not short of miraculous. From where she stands Eira can see the faint light of hope start to shine in Iorek's eyes. He's tried to hide it from them before, but Iorek has been secretly desperate to have his precious armor back.
Torsten thinks this rare artifact is a brand new toy. Standing on his back legs Torsten stretches upwards in an attempt to reach it. Eira hushes him with a stern warning, nudging him away from the unique compass.
"This tells me the truth," explains Lyra, holding it out for Iorek to get a better examination. "And I'll use it if you come with us."
Eira and Lyra eagerly await his response. For Iorek this may be his very last chance to break himself and his family free. Despite the remaining risk looming above them the opportunity is more than tempting.
Finally reaching an important decision, conceding with certain decisions attached to the deal, Iorek said "We will come with you, but I have a right to take vengeance. If they try to stop me from reclaiming my armor, they die."
Eira can tell this does leave Lyra somewhat unsettled for she doesn't want anyone hurt but acknowledges that he does need to defend himself should anyone attempt to waylay him.
Nodding, Lyra said "That seems fair. But only if they try and hurt you."
"Good," growls Iorek. "Where is my armor?"
Lyra then proceeds to adjust the arrows on the compass in the appropriate order to inquire about the question. A couple of seconds pass by and she receives her answer.
Iorek's body tenses in anticipation and fury more than prepared to spring into action.
"It's hidden. The Magisterium has it hidden. It's in the cellar of the oratory," reports Lyra.
This causes Eira to blink in surprise and then grin in triumph.
Finally!
No more holding back!
Iorek is almost instantly of the same mind as his cherished mate. There's no time to lose.
Releasing an almighty roar, eyes blazing in furious vengeance, Iorek charges out of the den making for the gates into their resident sanctuary.
Eira will be right behind him. She simply needs to handle one small matter first. Torsten wriggles out of her grasp. A good thing, too, because she needs both paws for this. Eira digs at the center of the den until she reaches the depth where her armor has been buried. This is why none of the Magisterium have been able to locate it until now. None of them would've dared to overstep their bounds this far even if they suspected it. With her paw's massive size Eira makes quick work of the dig site and extracts her armor.
"Time for some well deserved payback," snarls Eira.

By the way whose been watching House of the Dragon? I am so in love with Prince Daemon. He is a dream. Matt Smith was the perfect person to play that character. Similar to Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool no one could've done it better.
