After a successful date with his girlfriend, Lincoln had some...things to think about.
I've been careful since this all started, but I guess I won't be able to hide it any longer.
To Lincoln, finding out each time that his sisters were trying to spy on his dates was like trying to find an elephant hiding behind a pole. They all had the very same plan each time, with a simple difference here and there of course. It was always follow Lincoln, see him enter a place and try to find his date's identity. Since he knew them too well he would always be one step ahead, but he didn't count that one sister would find a way around.
Of all the sisters he never thought Lana would be the one who would find out. In his book, Lisa was the strongest option since she could always use her technology or something like that. Second best was Lola; that girl could smell gossip from a kilometer ahead. And last but not least was Lucy; her darkness-loving sister was able to appear outta nowhere and scare them every time, it was weird that she didn't use that ability to sneak on one of his dates.
He had to give her some credit, she was the one who found the only flaw in his plan: instead of focusing in him, she focused on his date.
Lincoln had a bad feeling when he didn't see Lana after his date ended, he saw her since he left the house, he saw Walt following him along as well, he saw her outside of the restaurant when she sat under the tree. That's why he was the one who followed her, he saw everything she did to get close to his date; he saw how she got hit by a door, all the times she almost got caught, how she pretended to be in a hurry just to bump with her and find out her identity. Lincoln always warned his date to be careful with random girls on the street, but Lana looked innocent enough to pass under her radar.
"Well, I knew this wasn't gonna last forever..." he talked to himself. "I knew they'd eventually find out, but honestly didn't think It'd last that long."
In his mind, he tried to read again his plan, thinking why he didn't think that one of them would have the idea of follow his girlfriend instead of him. He really underestimated them, and that'd be one mistake he wouldn't do again. I think there's only one way to stop them from spying on me once and for all, he thought. I just hope this works.
Around half an hour had passed since he followed Lana. He had sent a message to his girlfriend saying that he wanted to meet with her to ask her something. Lincoln was aware that they just had spent time together, but he assured her that it was important.
Lincoln walked towards a bench where a girl wearing a light blue skirt and white blouse was using her phone to kill time. "Hey, gorgeous." he greeted.
"Hey, handsome," she greeted back. "So what did you want to ask me? We just ate a few hours ago."
"I know you probably had things to do, but I wanted to go out with you again." he replied. "There's an ice cream local a friend of mine opened recently, and I wanted to take you there, I promise you'll love them."
"I'll judge that," she playfully replied. "You know I'm always down for ice cream."
"And I know you'll never say no to a chocolate ice cream."
"You know me well." she said. "Hey, how about if we go in an hour? I need to change to something more comfortable."
Lincoln raised an eyebrow. "Why? You look totally beautiful already."
The girl got closer to him, putting her arms around his neck and giving him a kiss. "If you keep talking to me like that I might end up wanting to eat you instead of the ice cream..."
"So you want to skip the entry and go straight to the dessert?" he playfully asked.
"Don't tempt me." she replied. "But seriously, as good as I look on this, I'm not really a fan of skirts."
Lincoln nodded. "I understand. Go ahead and change, I still gotta take care of something here in town."
"It's a deal then," she said. "Well, see you later!"
"Wait!" Lincoln said before his girlfriend left. "I need to ask you something else."
"What is it?"
"Well, I wanted to make this formal, so I wanted to let my family know that we're dating. Do you want to have dinner with us tonight?"
The girl looked at him with open eyes. "R-Really?" she asked. "I'd l-love to!" she kissed him again.
Lincoln kissed her back. "I'm glad to hear that."
"I honestly was wondering when would be the day that you'd formalize our relationship with your family." the girl said. "You're an awesome man, I thought you were ashamed of me..."
"I would never be ashamed of you!" he corrected. "Please don't ever think that! It's just that...well, my sisters tend to be kind of overprotective, and I know they know you, but I'm afraid of what they might say if they find out from other people that we're dating. This is the kind of thing you'd want to tell personally to someone."
"Yeah, I guess you're right," she commented. "I know how they are. But now that we're talking about your sisters, I think I came across one of them a few minutes ago just when I was hanging out with my friends..."
"Yeah, it probably was my sister Lana." Lincoln said. "She probably followed me to find out who you were."
"I'm sorry, Lincoln, I know you told me to be careful with..."
"It's okay, luv." Lincoln assured. "I knew it was only a matter of time until one of them found out anyway."
"I understand. Well, I need to get going, see you later!"
"Love you." the albino kissed her once more before letting her go. Lincoln checked his clock, it had only passed around ten minutes since he arrived. Lana shouldn't be that far, but if he wanted to stop her before she revealed his secret he needed to act now. Luckily he knew a shortcut to his home; if his calculations were right, Lana was probably too tired to still be running. If he hurried he'd be ahead of her in no time.
Lana ran as fast as she could for as long as her feet allowed her, but inevitably at some point they gave up. She had to rest on a nearby bench. While catching her breath, she thought back to the girl that was her brother's date; of all the girls, of all the possible options, she never thought she'd be the one to get Lincoln's heart. Especially when she was already...
The sound of her phone took her out of her thoughts. She took it out from her pocket and picked the call.
"Yeah?"
"Lana, where are you?!" Lola asked. "You disappeared from the house without telling anyone!"
"Sorry sis, but I have some important news," she said. "I finally found out who's Lincoln's girlfriend!"
"WHAT!" Lola asked with surprise. "H-How did you find out?! Who is she?!"
"It's a long story, but it's better if I tell you all in person." she said. "I'll be there in ten."
"Alright, be careful."
After Lola hung, Lana got on her feet again. She wasn't fully recovered, but at least now was able to continue. The blonde began to run once more, but stopped suddenly when a thought crossed her mind. It was that damn feeling of guilt that stung her again; she tried to shake it off her head, but now that she had some important information, she understood that her actions had more serious consequences. Now that she knew who was Lincoln's girlfriend, what would they do? What could they do? It wasn't like they could force Lincoln to break up with her to get rid of the competence, they couldn't force her to leave him either.
"Lana."
The girl jumped a little. That voice, a voice she thought would never hear saying her name again. "L-Lincoln?"
"If I didn't know you as well as I do I would think you're going home to tell everyone who's my girlfriend."
Lana blushed, knowing that she was busted in the act. "I-I don't know what..."
"Please don't act like you don't know, Lana," he said. "I know all about your little plan."
This was happening too fast, and the fact that Lincoln was totally calmed didn't help either. Though he was known for not getting angry that easily, once again she understood there would be consequences for her actions. That's why seeing him totally chill with this made her so nervous.
"For this occasion I'll have to ask you to keep it a secret. I'm gonna go out with her tonight, and later in the night I'm gonna take her to our home to eat dinner, that'll be the perfect time to present her to our parents and sisters." he explained. "They all know her already, you know how much of a good person she is. If all this was written by an unemployed dude with homework and projects due, and translated by a guy in his mid 20's and a tendency to procrastinate, they'd make sure to keep her identity as a secret. The readers would be eager to know who she is...and apparently you all too."
"Uhm, who are you talking to, Lincoln?" Lana asked.
"Nevermind." he said. "Tonight I'm gonna make things right. Nothing will be secret anymore."
Lana looked at her brother with confusion. While she wasn't sure this was a good idea, she understood that this was the way he wanted things to be. Who was she to interfere?
I don't know if it it's gonna be a surprise, she thought. We all know her, and to be honest who would suspect of...
Lincoln sighed. "Listen, just promise me you won't tell anyone about this. I need to be the one who introduces her to the family." Lincoln commented. "Can you do that for me?
Lana hesitated for a bit. One part of her wanted to run and tell the others; she felt kind of wounded since she still was in love with him, and watch him with other girl in their own house would be too much for some of her sisters. But again...it was his life, and they didn't have any say in his decisions. Yes, it hurt, but it didn't mean that all hope was lost.
Lincoln lifted his pinky finger towards her. Lana sighed and locked her finger with his. "I promise."
They sealed the deal with a hug. Lana felt her heart begining to race and her cheeks getting red; she never thought she'd feel this again, the love of her brother, even if it was a fraternal hug she didn't care.
Lincoln was the one who broke the hug, scratching the back of his head with a little bit of embarrassment. "Hey, uh, I don't know how to say this, but..."
"Yes?" Lana asked.
"Well, you kinda have been running around for hours..."
Lana raised an eyebrow.
"Under the heat..."
Getting the message, she chuckled. "Come one, bro, have the balls to tell me that I stink." she playfully punched him on the shoulder.
Lincoln sighed and smiled. "Just go home and take a bath, I want you all to be presentable when my girlfriend arrives."
"Can't swear I will," she joked. "Alright, Link, see you later."
With that solved, Lana continued her way home with a more relaxed pace. She no longer had the need to tell her sisters who that girl was, instead she wanted to take her time to think about how will she drop the bomb on them. She took the news quite too well, but didn't know if her sisters would react the same.
Lincoln watched as his sister turned a corner and disappeared. Honestly it went far better than he imagined. Lana was known for having a big heart; she (and some other sisters), were really understanding. Maybe she really knew how much that meant for him. Well, luckily it was her who found out; had it been Lynn or Luan he'd probably had to negotiate with them, and how things are at the moment he'd be on the losing end.
Lincoln walked back to the park and saw the time on his phone, it had only passed twenty minutes; his girlfriend wouldn't be here in a while, maybe he had time to organize something better than just take her to eat ice cream.
But there was one thought that he couldn't take out of his mind. While it was a good thing that his sisters would finally leave him alone and wouldn't try to seduce him anymore...one very small part of him didn't wanted it to end. That little part of him wanted to accept them, to return their feelings, even when things were very likely to end bad, he wanted to be with them. His common sense was strong, he knew it was wrong and immoral, but his will was starting to give in as time passed. One of the things that kept him to stay on track, one of the pillars that supported him and gave him strength was his girlfriend. Her smile, her eyes, her laugh, it all helped him keep his feet on the ground.
After some minutes of making some arrangements with some of his friends, he sat on the bench to wait for his girlfriend.
Lana entered the house and closed the door behind her, her current plan was to get to her room, change her clothes and rest before take a bath; she honestly didn't want to deal with her sisters, her body was too tired and her feet ached like hell. Unfortunately for her, all the sisters were on the couch; they all saw as the tomboy got inside the house covered in sweat and instantly swarmed around her.
"Lana?" Luna asked. "What happened to you?"
"Where have you been?" Lori questioned.
"And why are you using my clothes?!" Lola asked angrily.
"Yeah, they don't even match!" Leni commented.
"Sisters, none of you have asked the real questions," Lisa said. "Who's that girl?!"
"Girls!" Lana yelled." Everything has an explanation. Let's go to the table, and please someone bring me a glass of water..."
Lana explained everything with detail: from her plan, how she followed him, how she waited for the girl to come out of the restaurant, the part when she followed her around, how she bumped with her and the part when she promised Lincoln that she wouldn't tell them who she was. The sisters listened in disbelief, not only they couldn't believe that they weren't finding out who that girl was, but they couldn't believe that them, ten girls, ten heads, couldn't come up with a plan that simple.
"Okay, okay, let me get this straight," Lynn started. "You followed that girl instead of Lincoln, you were on your way to tell us but Lincoln stopped you and made you promise not to tell us because he'd bring her home in around..." she checked her phone. "Two hours?"
"Exactly." Lana replied. "But that was about thirty minutes. We still have one and a half hour to get ready. I don't think it'll be too formal, just get dressed properly."
Lana was getting ready to leave to her room; she had had enough action for a day and wanted to rest. Her sisters, however, had other plans.
As the blonde got up from the chair she began to walk toward the stairs. But one sister grabbed her from the wrist.
"Lana," Lynn called. "Do you realize that, now that you know who's Lincoln girlfriend, we can't let you go until you tell us."
Lana sighed. She figured out something like this would happen. Fights weren't rare in the family, specially if someone knew a hot secret and didn't want to share. "I totally knew." Lana replied.
"Well," Luna continued. "Will you tell us?"
"Sorry, I promised Lincoln that I wouldn't." she replied. "Besides, you'll find out in one hour, you all can wait. All I can say is that we all know her already."
"But...if we don't want to wait?" Lynn asked.
"Then I'm sorry." Lana said. Lynn faced her little sister; both of them were almost the same height, with Lana being slightly smaller than the jock. Non of them would give in to the other. This would have escalated into a fight, if it weren't for...
"Kids!" Lynn Sr. announced as he and Rita entered the house. "We're home!"
As soon as they heard the voice of their father they separated. None of them wanted to get in trouble with their parents, specially when it was a special night.
"Girls, good to see you all on the table," Lynn Sr. commented. "Tonight is a special night, Lincoln will bring his girlfriend over for dinner! We need to make this perfect, so please go and get yourselves well dressed and..." The patriarch of the family stopped as he saw how dirty Lana was. "Lana, please take a bath..."
"Yeah yeah." Lana replied with annoyance, heading upstairs to the bathroom.
As the parents prepared dinner, the sisters couldn't help but worry, even be scared to finally meet their rival, the girl who did what they couldn't even when they did their hardest: get Lincoln's heart. According to Lana they all knew her already, but if that's the case, Why all this mystery?
An hour passed before everyone was ready. They were well dressed; not as formal as if they were attending to a dance, but not as bad as their usual attire. Their parents looked really happy with the dinner; what would they think if they knew what was going through their daughters' minds? What would they say if they knew that they felt a bond stronger than blood towards a close member of the family like Lincoln was? Nobody wanted to know.
The family sat on the table, it was only a matter of time for Lincoln to cross the door with the answer to the question that was eating them alive. Did they really wanted to know? How would they react? Would they accept her?
Their thoughts were interrupted as the sound of a knocking on the door was heard. The parents hurried up to open.
"Hey guys," Lincoln greeted, as a peculiar smell flew to his nostrils. "Wow, dad, that smells delicious!"
"Well son, this is a special occasion." Lynn Sr. replied. "Wait, are you Lincoln's girlfriend? I can't believe it! It's been a while!"
"Good to see you again, sir." she replied with a little bit of embarrassment.
That voice...it can't be...
"I can't believe it, who would've known?" Lynn commented. "You sure remember my wife, Rita, don't you?"
"Hello, dear," Rita greeted her. "Wow, who would've tell that our boy would get such a beautiful lady like you!"
"Mom!" Lincoln groaned as a blush spread across his face.
The sisters decided to leave the fear aside and walked towards the door. As they get to see who Lincoln's girlfriend was, they all opened their eyes with surprise, specially one who also seemed to be hurt. They all saw as they shared a kiss.
"S-Sam?" Luna asked.
"Oh, hey, Luna," Sam greeted her, feeling a little awkward.
