*BANG!* - the wooden doors close with force behind Laventon's, Rei's and Akari's backs.
"Well… Things could have gone better." – Rei mutters, defeated and drained after the scolding Cylene had dished out.
"Yes, but it could have gone much worse, so I count that as a victory!" – Laventon said with a bit of cheer in his voice.
"I… honestly don't know what just happened…" – Akari stared blankly ahead as the professor led them to his study.
"Well, miss Akari, you get to stay here tonight, under my supervision, while captain Cylene gets a meeting with commander Kamado. We're not so cruel as to toss a young girl out in the wilderness to fend for herself at night. Tomorrow, they'll have a meeting scheduled to discuss what to do." – the older man explained as they entered the cluttered office.
The 3 animals quickly ran to their play spot. The study, unlike Cylene's office looked much more lived-in, although a bit messy. There were cork boards with pictures and drawings of different locations, animals and plants, wors upon rows of books and journals lined 2 of the walls, a small coffee table with a tea set and 4 chairs stood in one corner, a desk in the middle that was cluttered with journals, papers and observation notes. It gave Akari a sense of calmness and she relaxed a bit.
"Please, take a seat, it will be a bit until I sort some things for the captain before we leave the building." – Laventon gestured towards the chairs.
Rei went to help the man organize faster and Akari sat down since she didn't want to mess things up.
…
Akari found herself staring at the wooden ceiling of her room. The professor had been kind enough to give her a clean and very fluffy futon to sleep in for the night, for which she was glad since it became quite chilly in the wooden house. Just… she was not able to sleep at all! She tried, but tossed and turned all the time, nervousness building up as the night continued on. What was she going to do if that Kamado person didn't like her and threw her out in the wilderness? What would she do? Would she survive- she was a city girl that liked camping, not a survival pro! But most importantly- how would she even get home?
'I can't give up hope! I will find a way back home!' – she wiped the tears at the corners of her eyes.
Akari turned to the side and pulled up her phone – it looked a bit different but the overall size and color were the same, even her lock screen was the same. As she unlocked it, opening to a wallpaper with her and her mother, she noticed something – there was 1 new message. Her curiosity piqued, she tapped the icon to see a single line:
"Seek out all the beings of this land."
'What the heck?! I am sent here and that's all the clues I get?!' – she almost screamed in rage but calmed down.
She furiously scrolled through her apps to see if there was anything – she found her phone no longer had a charge %, there was a basic map of Hisui (which turns out is exactly the same as Sinnoh) and a Compendium with 200+ empty entries.
'Great, just great! Seek out over 200 creatures in this wilderness. No biggie!' – she thought sarcastically.
She turned the altered device off, plunging the room in darkness once again.
===The next day===
Akari wakes up to the voice of Rei.
"Wake up!" he loudly knocks on the door frame "You have to get ready to meet the commander today!"
She was startled and grabbed for the alarm clock at her nightstand to throw but when her fingers met the tatami, she remembered she wasn't home.
'Oh, yeah… I'm not home. Well, time to face the day!' – she thinks as she stretches and gets out of the futon.
As she passed by a small closet next to the wall, she stopped. She was going to meet the big boss of this place and people were already suspicious of her just by wearing weird clothes. After a bit of thinking, she opened the closet and searched through it, it was mostly bedding but in a few boxes were some clothes that looked around her size, so she took them and placed her things in the box. She was hesitant to part with her phone and didn't know if the so-called God named Arceus would be mad if she left the weird flute, but she decided to leave them there and not draw more suspicion to herself during the meeting. Also, she trusted the professor to keep them safe more than anyone in the village, and that's really saying a lot considering she knew him for less than a day.
…..
"So… You are the person Laventon brought in yesterday. Wearing strange clothes, no relatives or friends in the village, appearing out of nowhere… It sounds awfully suspicious." -Kamado scowled at her from across the desk.
He was an intimidating man, easily towering over her, with a thick mustache, gruff voice and a permanent angry look. Akari gulped nervously and tried not to offend him in some way.
"At least-" he abruptly stood up "you have dressed more appropriately this time."
He marched to her and thrust his hand in her direction, aparently waiting for a handshake. A bit unsure she slowly took it… only to immediately loose her balance and be thrown over the commander's shoulder and on the floor. She hissed in pain after it registered what happened to her.
"Commander!" – Cyllene exclaimed, looking a bit offended.
"She doesn't seem to be strong. Tell me, girl, why should I allow you to stay here? How would you be able to help the village? Why risk the people's safety for someone that appeared out of nowhere?" – he loomed over her.
Akari felt very intimidated but looked up and in his eyes.
"I will help! I don't know how exactly I got here and don't know how to get home right now, I also don't want to be kicked out into the wilderness to fend for myself. I may not be strong but I can help!"
"Hm…" – he grunted.
"Oh! I got it!" Laventon exclaimed cheerfully "She can become part of the Survey corps and also work as my personal assistant! Young Rei is an excellent helper but documenting the wildlife of Hisui is hardly a work for two or three people." – the professor shook his head.
"Alright, I will allow it BUT you will be on probation! ONE wrong move and you will be exiled! Now, leave, I have work to do. Cyllene, give me yesterday's reports!" – Kamado turned around, his kimono fluppering dramatically.
"Yes, sir!" – Cyllene stood even straighter.
Akari and the professor on the other hand quickly scurried out of the office and towards Laventon's personal study.
"Well, that went better than expected, right miss A-" – Laventon began but was interrupted by someone latching onto him.
"Thank you, thankyouthankyouthankyou…" – she hugged him, finally breaking out in tears.
This was probably the second scariest thing that had happened to her. She couldn't even begin to imagine what she would have had to do if she had been left alone in the wilderness.
"Come now, this is hardly the place for us to stay." – the professor gently led her into his study, where Rei had been anxiously packing.
"There you are- What happened?! Is everything alright. Kamado, did he-" – the boy circled around them.
Akari sat in one of the chairs, gratefully accepting a hadkerchief from the older han, wiping her tears. The two dogs and cat gathered around her, barking and meowing worriedly.
"Yes, for now at leas, I think everything will be fine." – the professor said as he turned to the young boy.
