Chapter 1: A Callback and a Phone Call
Jeanine's POV
It was a beautiful morning. People were chatting happily. the birds were chirping their usual melodies, while others were sleeping in due to it being the weekend. But as for me, a stressful seventeen-year-old, it was anything but a tranquil morning. I was attempting to do my whole morning routine in just three minutes. Why? Well, I needed to be at a film lot for one of my vlogs, and to be there for my sister Anya. She (thanks to Korra) managed to get a callback for an upcoming movie, but I had forgotten to set my alarm clock. I hurried up and put on my clothes and red beanie, put my headphones, phone and selfie stick in my bag, and ran out my bedroom door.
I ran into the kitchen to find my parents and my Granny June eating breakfast. Mom asked me, "Morning, sweetie. What are you doing up so late?" "No time to explain. Gotta go. I'm late for Anya's callback." I responded. "Well, just remember, Jeanine: don't tell her good luck. It could cost her the role. Just tell her to break a leg." Grammy June told me. "Mom, there's absolutely nothing wrong with saying good luck in the theater industry. I did it once before a play and nothing happened." my dad responded. "Yeah, except for the main actress breaking her leg, the set being demolished, and also the fact that only ten people showed up, including me!" my Granny clapped back. "Okay. Well, bye!" I said, and then sprinted out of the house.
I got on my scooter and then drove off. I put it into turbo mode, so I could be able to get to the film lot faster. Thankfully, I managed to get there, but half an hour late. When I got there, Anya was outside waiting. She stomped over to me and furiously asked, "Jeanine, where have you been?!" "Sorry. Forgot to set my alarm, but at least I'm here now, so no need to panic." I said, attempting to smooth things over. "Yeah, I guess that's accurate. Thank goodness I managed to get the director to wait. So, come on." She ran inside, and I followed suit.
We looked around, attempting to find the director, but he found us. He hastily said, "Finally, you're ready. Do you know how long you took? My breakfast was delivered a few minutes ago, and it's lunchtime! That shows you how long I've been waiting!" I ignored the guy, took out my camera, put it on my selfie stick, and began recording. "Hey, everyone, today we are here for something big, and that is..." "What are you doing?" he asked me. "Um, I'm vlogging. It's what I do." "Okay... Well, chop-chop! We don't have all day!" He ran off, and we followed.
Anya's POV
Jeanine and I went in the recording room to find two kids in there, a blonde-haired boy and a brown-haired girl. We knew these two kids. They were Sean and Stella Ender, members of one of the richest families of Acmetropolis. Stella was the one whom I was competing, I mean, an alternative for the role. I can't say I like her, but she is popular at school. The director said, "All right. Let's- where's my stunt double? We've been waiting for a few hours, and now my stunt double is missing, and my breakfast got here ten minutes ago, and it's lunchtime! I know I've already said that, but I just wanted to clarify! Where's my stunt double?!" He yelled angrily. I could tell Jeanine found the tirade funny, because she was laughing while recording. "I'm here, doc. No need to panic."
We turned around to see the stunt double, Jeanine's best friend, Ace. He worked as a stunt double in film, and we knew he was working for this film at the moment. When I saw him, I froze. My heart started beating rapidly, and I felt like I would faint soon. He walked near me and said, "Um, Anya, you OK?" I instantly snapped back to my senses. "Oh, yeah. Sorry." You might be wondering why I acted like that. Well, um... I... I actually like him. I have since I was six, and I found him hiding in an empty trash can during a game of hide-and-seek. No, that's not why I admire him, that's just when I fell for him. But, I'd never been able to tell him because he never showed any signs of liking me too. But, I knew one day we would be together.
Jeanine's POV
The director said, "Finally! All right, now let's start for the callback. Okay, brown-haired girl, you're up first." "The name's Stella, and let's do this!" Stella said in an enthusiastic manner. She cleared her throat, and started to speak. "Sonia, I've been cornered. We're going to need back-up." Ace lightly sighed when he heard the name Sonia. When we were fourteen, his sister Sonia had been involved in a car accident. She was hospilatized for a week, and then, well... she was gone. Ace didn't speak for what felt like forever after her death, and I felt really bad for him. He really matured after this, and I get why. As for me, I could be sort of childish, so he could get annoyed with me sometimes, but we were still friends. Anyway, back to what I was saying.
While I was vlogging, my phone suddenly started to vibrate. It was Granny June. I said into the phone. "Listeners, I need to take a call real quick. Back in a minute." Then, after stopping the camera, Anya told the director, "We need to take a break. Our grandma's calling." "Ugh, all right. You got two minutes, Anna." "The name's Anya, and OK." Anya and I then left the recording room, and answered the phone.
"Hello?" Anya said into the.phone. "Kids! Come home quickly! We're gonna need to stay in my bunker for a few days!" my Granny yelled. "Um... Granny, are you OK?" I asked her bewildered. "Of course, I'm OK! But last night, I had the craziest dream." I sighed and asked her in a curious tone, "What?" She said, "Well, I dreamed that a meteor hit the town. There were shockwaves that gave people superpowers, and someone named Zadavia and..." Before Granny could continue, Ace came out and said, "The director said for me to tell you your two minutes are up. Come on." We followed him. I told him about what my Grammy said. He said, "She's probably messing with you." But, a week later, my Granny's dream came true, and it completely changed my life.
