Hey guys! I'm back with another chapter for ya'll! Since I don't mention it in the chapter at all Gabby is currently at 18 weeks! Wow! There will be time jumps here and there as I have an anticipated timeline for how I want the rest of her pregnancy to go including little baby Casey's arrival. That's all I have for you, happy reading!
The October weather was starting to come out in the city of Chicago and the leaves were starting to turn. Gabby had woken up earlier than anticipated because of a pounding headache. She got her shower in and was getting ready for her first day back at work since her accident. Matt was still sleeping as it was one of his days off. After Gabby got dressed she went into the kitchen to whip up some breakfast as Casey would probably be up soon for his mid day construction job.
Casey opened his eyes and began to stretch out his body before getting up and going to the bathroom. After he was finished he grabbed a CFD shirt from his closet and headed out into the kitchen where his wife was cooking them some breakfast. "Morning baby," Matt bent down to the level of Gabby's stomach, "and good morning my other baby." Gabby just stood there watching her husband in awe talking to their child like he did every morning. "You ready for your first day back?" "Yeah I'm definitely ready. Oh also a reminder that we have my next ultrasound Thursday at noon." "Thanks for reminding me, Dr. Lacey said we might be able to tell what we're having, right?" "She sure did." Gabby replied with a light smile. Casey kissed his wife on the forehead before walking off to the fridge to grab waters. "Okay, breakfast is ready babe." "Thank you baby, it looks so good." Gabby grabbed the bottle of water Matt set out for her and her plate then sat at the table across from her husband. Once they were situated they began to eat and talk about their plans for the week including work. "I hope we're able to find out what we are having." Casey spoke with a slight smile, not missing the grimacing look on his wifes face. "Gabby?" He got no answer as the look had not left her face yet. "Baby, are you okay?" Gabby eventually snapped out of her daze. "Yes, sorry. I just had a stomach cramp, which lasted longer than I thought. I'm good now." "You're sure you're okay? You don't have to go in today, I'm sure they could handle one more day without you." "No, I'm good to go babe, like I said, I'm alright." Casey wasn't too convinced the stomach cramp was all that was the problem at the moment, he didn't know what it was but something else was eating away at her. But Matt knows his wife, it's for the best he doesn't push it, not right now anyway.
Once Gabby parked her car she grabbed her purse and lunch to head into work. She was still anxious to be back for the first time since the accident, but besides that she was truly feeling good and ready to be back to work. This case has been eating away at her since she woke up from her mini coma after the attack. As she made her way down the halls of OFI Headquarters the quiet atmosphere did not go unnoticed. As she made her way into the office, she was immediately confused as to why the whole office was pitch black and why nobody was there to greet her… When she stepped inside she was shocked to say the least. "Surprise!" Chants could be heard from the whole office as they took in Gabbys presence. "Welcome back Gabby!" Jonah exclaimed as he pulled her into a big hug. "Thank you Jonah, it's good to be back!" Gabby responded as she pulled away from his embrace.
Back at the Casey household, Matt got up from the couch where the Blackhawks game was playing in the background, so he could get ready for his construction job he took on his day off. He agreed to do a couple repairs on a middle aged lady's front porch. Veronica had recently lost her husband to cancer so a lot of the repairs her husband used to do needed to be done by someone else, someone who knew what they were doing. Matt had known Veronica basically his whole life since he was six maybe. After he got dressed in more construction appropriate attire he made himself a quick cup of coffee and made his way out to his truck so he wasn't late to fix Veronica's porch. Casey finished up his simple tasks in less than 2 hours and now it was finally time for him to get back home. It was around 6:00 when he got back, Gabby would still be at work till around 11:00 so he decided to grab himself a quick snack so when it got a little later he could make them a nice meal so it's warm and fresh for Gabby when she returned home from a long day at work.
Unfortunately that time would be coming much earlier than he expected as his phone started ringing, the pop up notification on the screen read Gabby. She could just be on her last break or something so he didn't want to think the worst or freak out just yet, so he decided he would just pick up the phone and see what was up. "Baby?" Casey questioned as soon as it went through. "Matt?" Slight panic mixed with confusion present in her voice. "I'm right here baby, what's going on?" "I don't know. I just started feeling really nauseous and so I went to the bathroom to collect myself and I've just been sitting here on the bathroom floor and I don't know what's happening to me, I thought the sickness and nauseous feeling would go away by now." Casey barely holding it together as he took in his wife's frantic and panicky words, wishing he was with her to comfort her. "Baby, I'm so sorry. You should come home right now, I'm sure Jonah would completely understand." "You think?" Gabby asked, the panic still slightly in her voice. "Yeah. Go talk to him and if he gives you the okay then I want you to call me and I'll be there in no more than 15 minutes, okay?" "No, I can drive myself." Gabby insisted. "I know baby, but I'd feel so much better if I came and got you." Casey told her. "Okay fine, hurry?" "Promise, now go talk to your boss." Gabby then hung up the phone before going off to do just that.
When Matt got Gabby back to the house safe and sound, he finally got her down in their bed and tucked her in the covers and put an extra blanket over her because he knew she was extra cold tonight, the fall weather suddenly feeling more like December type weather. After he got her situated and comfortable, he quietly exited their bedroom, slowly and quietly closing the door behind him. Gabby went to bed earlier than anticipated since she had to leave work almost 5 hours early so Casey decided to finish up some very small and simple tasks around the house that she would normally do, so if she panicked in the morning about doing them he could reassure her that he had it covered.
Gabby and Matt have been sitting in the waiting room for over 20 minutes now and Gabby is let's say less than patient. Matt noticed how nervous yet excited she was as her leg was bouncing up and down constantly, Matt knowing she does that when she's more nervous than excited. He was always able to keep his composure more in times like this than she could and that's why he's always, always been her rock. "Gabriela Dawson?" The petite brunette nurse called out as she entered the waiting room. Casey and Gabby got up immediately as Gabby's name was called. "Hi, I'm Julia and I'll be your nurse for today. If you would just come over here to the scale so I can get your height and weight, then I'm going to have you take a seat so I can get your blood pressure and heart rate." Gabby easily complied, these few tasks taking Julia no more than 5 minutes to complete. "Okay good job, if you would just sit back and relax, Dr. Lacey will be in here shortly." Julia said with a smile as she exited the exam room.
Before they knew it, Dr. Lacey arrived to their room. "Hey you two." "Matt, it's good to see you." "It's great to see you too!" Casey replied with a soft smile. "Alright so before we get a good look at your baby, I just need to go over some routine questions to start." Dr. Lacey informed them. "Now is there anything that stands out that you want to talk over, now that I've gotten my standard questions out of the way?" "Nope, nothing I can think of, just the typical symptoms I read up on." Gabby replied softly. "There is one thing I want to ask you actually." Matt broke the silence, as both women looked in his direction, Dr. Lacey with an expectant look on her face nudging Casey to ask his question. "She's been having a lot of stomach cramps especially lately, she tells me she's fine, but I don't know something seems off with it." Gabby held onto his words for a little while after he said them, ducking her head in slight embarrassment as she knew he was right, she also couldn't really tell anyone why she wouldn't bring it up to her doctor when she didn't even know herself. "Gabby, where exactly do you feel the pain and how long does it last? What exactly does it feel like?" Dr. Lacey asked as she turned her complete focus back to Gabby. "Well it's a sharp stabbing pain and it usually lasts anywhere from 3-5 seconds, but it just really wears me down. Once I get myself adjusted I start to feel better. It also usually comes with a wave of nausea, but that's about it." Matt grimacing at her words, wishing for nothing more than to make the pain stop even if it's not there long. "Okay, that honestly just sounds like the normal and it's a not very fun symptom, but nothing that's a cause for concern." Dr. Lacey said as she looked back and forth between the both of them. "Now is there anything else before we go ahead and see if we can tell what you're having today?" "No, that's all." Casey said as he looked to Gabby for confirmation, her giving him a quick nod gesturing she was good too." "Okay well, in that case let's see if we can find out if little baby Casey is a boy or a girl." Dr. Lacey spoke as Gabby and Matt shared a knowing look, the excitement on their faces not being overlooked by Dr. Lacey. "Okay Gabby, if you could just lift your shirt up right below your bra we can apply the gel and get a good look at your baby." Dr. Lacey spoke with a grin. "Oh look, there they are." Matt and Gabby immediately looked up at the screen, just in awe of their beautiful boy or girl. "Can you tell what I'm having?" "Yes, I can!" Dr. Lacey spoke up enthusiastically. Gabby's eyes started to fill with tears, knowing the full water works are going to come out soon enough. "Congrats it's a girl!"
Gabby immediately gasped, she couldn't believe it. "We're having a girl?!" "Yes, you are." "Wow." Was all Casey could get out, the father to be, left almost speechless. "I love you." Gabby spoke up. "I love you both. My beautiful girls."
There it is! As you can see Dawsey officially found out they are having a... baby girl! Thank you so much for reading and I'll see ya'll next time! I also wanted to point out for anyone wondering about if I've forgotten about them looking into buying a house and the answer is I haven't I promise. It just hasn't been an important storyline on my mind yet, but with her getting deeper into her second trimester it should come up again soon. For sure before their baby girl arrives. That's all I have for you. Review, Review, Review!
