Hush
Chapter Four
Henry, Percy, Grover and Annabeth stood ready as shadows charged toward them, transforming into black wolves with glowing red eyes and sharp claws. Henry and Percy ran toward them first. From blocking the claws and dodging their bites, Percy sliced one creature across the stomach, only for his sword to go right through its body.
"That's not good," Henry said.
Before Percy recovered, the shadow wrapped in self around Percy, squeezing him tight. Percy tried to move his arms and legs, but he couldn't. He dropped to the ground as the shadow continued squeezing him. Seeing this, Henry ran toward Percy, only to be wrapped up by a shadow as well.
The remaining shadows charged toward Annabeth and Grover. The two of them punched and kicked away at the shadows, but they couldn't damage the creatures. Soon they were wrapped up by the shadows as well.
"Nadine Run!" Henry shouted before the shadow covered his mouth.
Breathing hard, Nadine's heat raced as the shadows moved closer and closer. She was so scared she couldn't even move. Her legs felt jello and her body wouldn't stop shaking. She had never fought before. She never had. Too, there was always some else around to protect her. But with her friends in trouble, how could she run? She wanted to help. She just didn't know how. Tears filled her eyes as the shadows were only a mere few inches away from her. This couldn't be the end. They had to save the world. No, she had to do something.
Holding up her, Nadine closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
Stay away!
Everyone's eyes widen as a light lined emulated from Nadine. It formed in her hand down to her fingertips, shooting out a blast as they struck the shadow's head on. Screaming the shadows dissolved into dust and disappeared. Henry's eyes flickered, then his whole body vibrated. The Shadow wrap around him, lose its grasp and uncoil it was about to attack but when a blast hit, turning it into dust. He looked at Nadine. She was blasting away at the shadow around the others. Once they were gone, she dropped to her knees and, just before hitting the ground, Henry caught her.
After a few moments Henry lead the way Carrying Nadine while Annabeth, Percy and Grover followed. Monitoring the sky, Henry noticed they were losing the light. It wouldn't be long before night would approach, and he knew the perfect place to camp for the night.
They came across a massive oak tree that's branches stretched out further than any of the trees in the forest. Henry gently set Nadine up against the tree as Annabeth sat down beside her. Pulling a blanket out of her bag, she draped it across Nadine and her self.
Percy yawned but refused to sleep. He rubbed his eyes as Henry had already setup a fire and he sat down beside the fire with him. It didn't take long for Grover and Annabeth to sit around the fire as well. They were quiet at first, until Percy wrote on his white board and tapped on it. Henry looked in at the board.
"Can you tell us more about the sensory gods?"
Nodding, Henry sighed as he took a deep breath.
"Okay, The Sensory Gods are Immortals base off the five senses of the Earth. Sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell. But we recently discovered another speech. We help maintain the sensory balance so life can continue on this planet. Henry paused, yawning. You have me the God of Hearing, Tina The Goddess of Touch and Textures, Thomas the God of Taste, Samantha the Goddess of Smell and our leader Vivian The goddess of sight.
Annabeth pulled show her white board. "So Vivian missing and Veronica taking back her gift."
" Has shifted the balance and looks like it's up to me and the other Sensory Gods to get it back on track. With your help, of course," Henry said, followed with a sigh.
"How does Nadine fit into all of this?" Percy wrote.
"She was found by Veronica when she was little. We all took part in raising her, but she caters to Veronica the most, even calling her the great one.
Yawning, Percy struggled to keep his eyes open. He wanted to ask more question, but he laid down and soon drifted off to sleep. It didn't take long for Grover and Annabeth to follow suit. Henry stood up and sat down next to a Nadine who was still asleep. Looking up at the night sky at the crescent moon, Henry leaned back on the trunk of the tree.
"Nadine, you really want to help Veronica, huh? alright since you getting serious, I guess I have to as well."
"Meanwhile, back at the tower in his office, Jeffery was sitting in his chair going over some papers when his eyes flickered. Glance to the to wall two beings walked out from the wall. Morphing into their human forms, they bow to Jeffery. Setting down his papers down he looked over at the two men who held black and blue marks on their arms and face along with a few cuts that were slow to heal.
"What happen?" Jeffery asked.
"We have run into a problem," the man with black hair said.
"It seems the girl has found a Sensory and they planing to seek another." The other man finished.
Jeffery leaned back in his chair, gritting his teeth. "Nadine⦠so you finally have come out of the shadows."
"She is accompanied by two hybrids, a satyr, and now the God of Hearing."
Sighing, Jeffery crumpled up a piece of paper before slamming his hand on his desk. The two men winced.
"Gather more shadows and follow them."
"Yes sir," both men said before seeping back into the wall.
Standing up, Jeffery sighed once more than he looked out his window. The last he saw of that annoying child was her disappearing into a town as he came to work at the tower. Her smile seemed to calm all the people and even brought out a light within Veronica, something he can't afford to happen. His eyes glowed as a group of robed men and woman rose from the floor, then bowed to Jeffery before looking back at him.
"You've called my lord?" A woman said, removing her hold, revealing her long reddish brown hair and blue eyes.
"I have a new task for you, because of some unsettling news we need to speed up our plans."
"do you wish me to summon some one?
"No, not some one...something thing." Jeffery said, followed by an evil smile.
Smiling the woman's eyes flickered. " Oh I understand it shall be done."
The woman, along with the men disappeared, back into the floor.
Jeffery sat back down in his chair with a huge smile across lips.
"Things are about to get exciting."
