Hush

Chapter Five

Nadine slowly opened her eyes. Looking up at a clear blue sky, the sun warmed her skin. It didn't take long for a light breeze to tickle across her body as well. Soon, a smile spread across her lips as she spotted a flock of birds fly by.

Gripping the ground as she tried to sit up, Nadine noticed a powdery silky soft but firm substance between her fingers, which only caused her to lose her grip. Sighing, she gave up and laid her hands back down.

"Sand."

Nadine gasped. She couldn't believe it when that word came with her lips and not her mind. Where was she? And what she felt under her fingers was it really sand? Her ears twitched at the sound of the crash waves against the land.

"That's The ocean…"

"Yes, we are at the beach, well in a dream anyway." A familiar voice said.

Tuning her head Nadine's eyes widen for laying beside her was Veronica.

"I felt you use you power in a much different way so I came to check on you,'" Veronica said reaching out and touching Nadine's hand.

"I miss you," Nadine said.

"As do I," Veronica said.

Nadine blinked away her tears. "I wanted to help my friends and Henry."

Veronica smiled. "Your growing up hence your power is as well."

"I have found someone who finds the loss of his gift peaceful."

"I am intrigued. What is his name?"

"Percy Jackson, the son of Poseidon.

"Ah yes, this demigod is strange. I never would have thought someone like him would say such words. I can't wait to meet him.

"But I don't know where you are?"

"Oh, that's right, I'm in a tower..." Veronica disappeared before she could finish.

Nadine wanted to say something, but she also disappeared as well.

Moments later Nadine opened her eyes, but this time she wanted welcomed by a blue sky. It was the smell of oak that lingered around her nostrils. Looking up, she smiled at the multiple branches of an oak tree.

"Good morning," Henry said, setting a plate of food in her lap.

Nadine touched his hand.

"I saw the great…. I mean Veronica in my dream"

"I see, I thought I felt something." Henry said.

"She felt me use my power, so she came to check on me." Nadine said, looking over to Percy, Annabeth and Grover, who were eating. "We didn't talk long. I told her about Percy and she said where she was, but she disappeared."

"A castle or tower? Henry asked.

"A tower,"

Henry nodded. "Okay, not much to go on, but we got something. Eat up. You're going to need your strength."

Nodding, Nadine picked up a slice of bread and dig in. Henry rose to his feet, his eyes flickered, giving off a green tint as his ears twitched. From the crackling sound of the tree branches and bushes. To the footsteps and running of wild life when to the birds in the sky. Yet while he could hear that they were safe, his gut told him otherwise.

Blinking a few times, Henry shook his head as he walked out to the path. It didn't take long for the others to stand on either side of him. Glancing at the others, he cleared his throat.

"Okay then, everyone, let's move out."

At the tower, Veronica opened her eyes. She excepted to staring up at her cream color ceiling, but she looked into the worrying eyes of her protector Vincent.

"Oh, you're awake." Vincent said with a sigh of relief.

"How long was I out?"

"Most of the morning it's close to noon now," Vincent paused. "When you didn't wake up at your normal time, we all got worried.

"Well, I am up now. I take it something happened?" Veronica asked, pushing the covers off and swinging her legs over the side of the bed.

"Yes, but it's best you see for yourself." Vincent replied.

Standing up, Veronica slipped on a jacket as Vincent and she walked over to the red orb that was glowing a cautious yellow. "When Chaos comes, darkness is bound to follow." Jeffery said, walking in.

Veronica continued looking at images. Her eyes narrowed when the image of a familiar restaurant appeared with shattered windows torn up the door. Pulling her eyes away, she looked at Jeffery.

"I caused this to happen. I took away my gift."

"They choose to act in a chaotic manner. They brought this darkness upon themselves." Vincent said.

Balling up her fists, Veronica pushes Vincent and Jeffery toward her door.

"Leave me, I need to get dressed,"

"Are we heading out?" Vincent asked.

"What do you think?" Veronica said, slamming the door in the men's faces.

Vincent glance to Jeffery who smiled.

"Very well. If she wants to play hero, so be it. I'm tired of being lenient. It's time to give her a taste of what is coming." Jeffery said. Smiling as turn to Vincent with his glowing red eyes.

Vincent's eyes held a red tint as he smiled as well. Jeffery merely nodded as he disappeared into the shadows.
