"This looks disgusting," Tadashi held the burger up to his face and pulled a face, "why did you make us come here?"
Fred had three burgers stacked on the table in front of him, "how dare you?!"
"I'm sorry! They're just... Is there any type of nutritional value in these? Like, at all?"
Baymax scanned the food. "No. In fact, these burgers cannot even be classified as 'food', the main chemical is-"
Tadashi dropped it onto the table, "I'm never letting you choose where we get lunch ever again. I'd prefer the cafeteria food."
"Well, I'll take the burger then!" Fred replied giddily, outstretching his hand, "they're DELICIOUS!"
"Sure," Tadashi slid it over to him and stretched out in the booth, "I will admit though, it is nice to escape SFIT for a bit." He looked around the fast food place and grimaced, "even though I'm not sure how this place is even allowed to stay open."
"But you haven't even see my favourite part! There's a-"
"HOWDY!"
Tadashi jumped and clutched his chest, "Jesus! I just had a heart attack! Just an expression!" He added quickly, before Baymax could even move.
"How are we enjoying our NOODLEBURGERS today folks? Can I get ya anythin'?"
Fred grinned and slapped the robot on its head, "Noodleburger Boy! How awesome is he?!"
"He's a walking burger with red overalls on. I LOVE him," Tadashi grinned and turned to face it, "this is awesome."
"Told you! And look- can I have some ketchup please? And mustard?" Fred held out his burger and the robot obliged happily, "he's beautiful. I want one."
Tadashi watched him walk away, "he's actually pretty cute. You should bring Honey Lemon here. Tell her to eat beforehand, though."
"Maybe I will then."
"Fred, eating that burger will increase in a drastic raise of-"
"Shhhh," Fred waved a hand on Baymax's face, smearing ketchup on the vinyl, "don't ruin this."
"What is it with you and roofs?" Rena threw her bag down on the floor and sat next to Caine, who was eating his lunch and looking out over the city, "you know how long it took me to find you?"
Caine smiled warmly, "it's quiet up here. And I'm not exactly the most popular person in the cafeteria."
"You're WAY too scared of my brother. He won't do anything."
"Are you JOKING? He's TERRIFYING-"
Rena laughed, "about as terrifying as a fucking butterfly."
Caine shrugged, "well, whatever. It's nice up here anyway."
Rena nodded, "yeah, to be fair. You can even see my house."
Caine watched her as she opened a can of Diet Coke, "so. How are things?"
"Umm.. Stressful? College is a pain in the arse."
"Yeah, I get that. Granville's on my ass ALL the time. I think she might be catching on to how I'm totally unqualified for this job. I can't even tell the difference between sulphuric and hydrochloric acid."
Rena snorted, "kinda essential at the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. Dickhead."
He elbowed her, "oi! I'm not doing that bad!" She shrank away from him, her eyes growing wide. Caine withdrew his arm quickly. "Sorry- I.. I didn't mean to-"
Rena shook her head, "no, it's fine. You just surprised me." She shoved her hands in her pockets and took a deep breath, "see? Fine." She could tell her didn't believe her, so opted to change the topic, "Fred wants us to be superheroes. Like. Properly."
"Oh?" He took a bite of his sandwich, "I mean. That doesn't shock me. It's Fred."
"I know," she replied softly, "we did... We did do it for a bit last time. But... I don't know. It feels unnecessary."
"Yeah, I guess so. But... If the need arises? Would you?"
"I don't know. Maybe. Probably."
"Would you want to?"
She shook her head, "I don't think so. But if the others need me, I'll be there. I'm sort of apathetic towards the whole thing. I kinda just wish everything could go back to normal."
Caine sighed, "yeah. I feel you there. But... You shouldn't have to do anything you don't want to."
"It's not the superhero thing. I quite enjoy it. It's just the whole... Theatrics of it. Every time we've done it someone's nearly fucking died. And it's either me or my brothers. And last time... Was..." She shuddered, "I can't stop thinking about it. He's in my head all the time."
Caine gently placed a hand on her shoulder, "yeah. Me too. He's a... Horrible person."
"I just feel like it's never going away. And... I'll never feel normal again."
"Rena..."
"But he's gone now, right? We got rid of him. And if being a 'superhero' is what saves our asses again, then fine. But I just don't want it to come to that."
"I know what you mean. Let's just hope it never has to come to that."
"And maybe it won't! This is real life, not Fred's comic books. It's not like the city has an epidemic of supervillains."
"I hope you're right."
They sat in silence for a while when Rena's phone buzzed. She glanced at the text and grinned. Clara was just waking up and replying to her texts from last night. Rena hugged her phone to her chest. That was one good thing to come from all this mess.
Caine raised his eyebrows, "who are you texting?"
"No one. Just a friend."
"Suuuuure. What's his name?"
She grimaced, eye catching on the pride bracelet Tadashi bought her for Christmas. Maybe she should tell people. What was the big deal anyway? "HER name is Clara."
"Oh."
She grinned at the screen, "she's way funnier than you."
"Well that's fucking rude."
"Not untrue, though."
Far away from where they were sitting, a man was sat in a cave. This was not as unusual as it sounds, because the cave was more like a home. It had screens and a bed, table and chairs, and a huge storage space for stolen robotic equipment. He sat at his desk, scrolling through a website with Alistair Krei's logo plastered all over it.
"Yes... This will do..." He muttered quietly, smirking. "Now... For my plan to begin."
