Hello, everyone! And welcome to the chapter ten of my Zootopia and Higurashi When They Cry crossover, "Zootopia: When They Cry". Last chapter, Nick, Judy, Keiichi, and Rena were eating breakfast while discussing about the possibility that the rest of the Hinamizawa gang could be somewhere in Zootopia and about the kids helping Nick and Judy catch Bellwether despite how dangerous the mission would be. And from the sound of it, Keiichi and Rena seem very determined to find their missing friends and help catch Bellwether. Now let's not waste any more time. Let's get this show on the road! Here we go! Disclaimer: I DO NOT own Zootopia or Higurashi When They Cry. All rights go to their respective owners.
Chapter 10: Reunion and First Victim
At the Otterton residence, Mr. and Mrs. Otterton were cooking breakfast for their kids, Marcus and Tim along with their guest; the blue haired human girl from Hinamizawa, Rika Furude. She was thinking about something.
"Hanyuu. Wherever you are, I just hope we find each other soon. I just hope you're alright just like you hope I'm alright." She thought.
Mr. and Mrs. Otterton then started making plates and serving each one to the three kids and themselves.
"Breakfast is ready, kids." Emmitt said.
"Thanks, Dad." Said Tim.
As they were eating, they noticed that Rika barely touched her food. Concerned, Kathy got out of her chair and walked over to the child. She put a comforting paw on her hand. Rika glanced at her.
"Rika?"
"Yes, ma'am?"
"Are you still thinking about Hanyuu?" Asked Kathy.
Rika nodded.
"Yes. She's a really important friend to me. She's watched over me and my friends for a very long time." She replied.
The otters looked at each other, then at the girl again.
"Keep your head held high, Rika." Marcus said with an optimistic smile.
"Huh?"
"We all know you're worried about your friend and we also know that you don't want anything happening to her. But we also know that your friend is also a goddess from your village. Meaning if she's a goddess, she can probably defend herself from anyone and anything. In other words, don't ever lose hope, Rika. Ever."
"Marcus is right. Have faith and know that your friend will be fine." Emmitt said.
A small smile formed on Rika's face.
"Thank you all so much. You all have kind hearts." She said.
"Hey, that's what we're here for." Said Marcus.
Suddenly, they all heard a phone ringing.
"What's that?" Rika asked, surprised.
"Don't worry. It's just my phone." Kathy assured her.
Kathy took her phone out of her pocket. She looked at it and saw that it was Judy Hopps calling on video chat. She answered it.
"Hi, Officer Hopps. How are you today?" She asked her.
"Hello, Mrs. Otterton." She replied, "I'm doing well, thanks for asking. Hope you're having a good day."
"What's going on, Judy? Is something wrong?"
Judy shook her head.
"Nope. Nothing's wrong at all. The reason why I called you was because Nick and I have some humans with us; a boy and girl, and we just wanted to know if you or any other mammals have seen any of their friends around the city or anywhere else."
The second she heard that, Kathy snapped her fingers.
"Oh! I've actually seen one of them in my house. As a matter of fact, she is sitting at the table with my family eating breakfast. Her name is Rika Furude." She told her.
On the other side, Judy felt a tap on her shoulder and turned to Keiichi who made a phone hand sign. Judy went back to her conversation.
"Hey, Mrs. Otterton, Keiichi asked if he could please talk to Rika. Is that okay?" She asked her friend.
"Is that your human's name?" Asked Kathy.
Judy nodded and Kathy nodded back. On the other side, Kathy walked back to the table where Rika was.
"Rika?"
"Yes, ma'am?"
"My friend Judy Hopps called me. She said that another human named Keiichi wants to speak to you." She told her.
Rika was surprised when she heard that name.
"Keiichi? As in Keiichi Maebara? He's in this world too?" She asked.
"You know him?"
Rika nodded.
"Sure do."
"You want to talk to him?"
Rika smiled, closed her eyes, and nodded.
"That's fine with me. ~Niipah~"
Kathy laughed a little and handed the phone to the little girl.
"Hello, Keiichi! ~Niipah~"
"Hey, Rika! How's it going? To be honest, I'm kind of surprised you're in this world too. I mean, I knew Rena and I were in this world, but I didn't know you were here too." Keiichi said.
"I'm okay, Keiichi. I was shocked when Mrs. Otterton said your name. I am relieved to know that I'm not the only one in this world ruled by animals." Said Rika.
"I'm also relieved to know I'm not alone too. By the way, I don't really know how we got to this world. Do you know?" Keiichi asked.
Rika shook her head.
"Unfortunately, no." She replied, "But I think I know just the one who might know."
The boy's face brightens.
"Really? Who?" He asked with excitement.
"I have a feeling Hanyuu might know." Replied Rika.
"Hanyuu? As in the goddess Hanyuu?"
"Mmhmm. I just figured since she's an all-knowing goddess, she might know how we got here and why. She might also know where our other friends are."
Keiichi put a hand on his chin.
"That's possible. But how are we gonna find her?" He asked his friend.
Rika shook her head again.
"We aren't going to find her. She is going to find us. If she has a vision and pictures where we are in her head, she'll be able to know where we're at and find us. Easy peasy." She said.
Keiichi nodded in agreement.
"That's a very good point. Considering she's an all-knowing goddess." He said.
"Exactly."
Keiichi turned to his left and then back to Rika.
"Hey, Rika. I gotta give the phone back to Judy. She wants to talk to Mrs. Otterton."
"Okay."
The girl hands the phone back to the otter.
"Wow." Said Judy, "I thought we were dealing with just humans. But humans and a goddess both from another world. This is just... something new."
"My thoughts exactly, Officer Hopps." Kathy said, seriously, "I also heard on the news that that monster Bellwether escaped with the help of some unknown accomplice. I don't know what she's planning."
"Me neither, Mrs. Otterton. But I do know that if we don't stop her, everything will go to hell. Nick and I will be on it if it ever comes up again and also, the kids will be helping us catch that monster. I have a feeling we may need all the help we can get." Said Judy.
Kathy nodded.
"Okay. Emmitt and I are in. I've been wanting to get back at her for she did to my husband." She said.
Judy nodded with a determined look.
"So it's all settled. We're gonna have to get all the kids together. Meet us at the Fish Barrel Seafood Place and once we have all the kids together, we'll discuss what we're going to do and how we're going to do it." She said.
"Right. See you then, Judy."
"See you then."
After hanging up, Kathy turns to her husband.
"Emmitt."
"Yes, honey?"
"Let's get going. We've got a duty to fulfil."
She turns to Rika.
"Rika?"
Rika nodded. She too was serious.
"Yes, Kathy. If it means seeing Hanyuu and my other friends again as well as helping this city, then I am willing and able. First, when we arrive at the place where Judy told us to meet at, we have to let Hanyuu find us. Her and I are telepathic which means it will be easy for us to find each other. And once she does find us, we need to find Mion, Satoko, and Satoshi. Once we're all together, we will discuss how we're going to bring Bellwether down." She said.
Kathy nodded and turned to her husband again.
"Well, Emmitt. What do you say?"
The otter thought about it for a bit and then nodded with a determined look.
"I'm in. I also want to see Bellwether go down as much as anybody." He said.
As soon as they were done eating, the two otters and the little girl started towards the door. Marcus and Tim started to follow.
"We're coming too." Marcus said.
Just then, Kathy put a paw on each each of the boys' shoulders and looked at them sternly.
"No, you're not." She said, "Your father and I both know you also want to see Bellwether brought to justice, but it is far too dangerous for you two. Besides, you've got school today. Your Aunt Maria will pick you up and look after you while you're father and I help Officer Hopps. Understand?"
The boys looked at each other and sighed in defeat.
"Yes, ma'am."
A small smile formed on the mother otter's face. She pulled the boys into a hug.
"I love you boys very much."
"We love you too, Mom."
Meanwhile at Judy's apartment, Judy got ready for the trip to the place where her, Nick, the three kids, and the otters were going to meet.
"Are you sure Nick and Rena are gonna show up?" Keiichi asked.
Judy nodded.
"I'm positive." She said, "Nick knows the address of the apartment complex, so he should show up."
No sooner had she spoken, she heard a knock at the door.
"Carrots, it's us." Said the voice on the other side.
Judy smiled and chuckled.
"Speak of the devil." She said.
The bunny and the boy walked to the door. When Judy opened it, they saw Nick and Rena standing there. Rena instantly smiled when she saw her friend.
"Keiichi!"
"Hey, Rena."
The boy and the girl hugged each other. Judy and Nick looked at the kids, then at each other.
"Are these two made for each other or what?" Nick quipped.
"Oh shush." Said Judy.
She turned to the two kids and cleared her throat. The duo broke the hug and turned to the police rabbit.
"Is everyone ready to go?" She asked.
Keiichi and Rena nodded.
"Sure are." Keiichi replied.
As the four friends started to walk towards the elevator, Judy pulled out her phone. Meanwhile in the Rainforest District, the black jaguar known as Mr. Manchas was sitting at his table with the child goddess Hanyuu. They were talking to each other.
"So... Hanyuu."
"Yes, Mr. Manchas?"
"I... want to know more about you. I know you're a goddess from another world, but what did you do? I'm just curious."
"Well," The girl began, "I was a goddess that watched over the village of Hinamizawa in rural Japan. I also kept watch over my friends including Rika. The girl whom I have a strong connection with. I met her once when she was a baby and we have been friends ever since. Ever since then, her and I have been able to communicate with each other both physically and spiritually."
"In other words, the two of you are telepathic?" Asked Manchas.
"Yes."
Manchas was awestruck. He had heard stories about telepathy in myths books, but he could never imagine there being multiple events where it was used in reality.
"Wow. Never thought I'd live to see the day." He said.
"I know it sounds weird and hard to believe, but it's the truth." Said the girl, looking down.
"What? N-No! I didn't mean it like that! I'm just both surprised and amazed because I never thought I would hear about multiple instances where telepathy was actually used in real life! I'm just completely... astonished. It's not weird, it's... unique. You're unique. And never EVER let anyone tell you otherwise. Not even me. Besides, between you and me, I doubt me or anyone else in Zootopia would want to piss of a goddess." Said Manchas.
The girl and the jaguar both laughed.
"Thanks a lot for the words of encouragement, Mr. Manchas."
"Anytime, mi amigo."
Hanyuu gasped and shut her eyes.
"What's the matter?" Manchas asked, concerned.
"I... I can sense Rika. She's leaving a house and headed towards a restaurant. We need to go posthaste!" Said the girl.
The jaguar nodded.
"Right."
Sometime later, at the Fish Barrel Seafood Place, a purple and green car pulled into the parking lot. The doors opened. Out walked the bunny and fox, Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde and the two human teens, Keiichi Maebara and Rena Ryuugu. They then noticed that a yellow van pulled up next to them and the van's doors opened as well. Out of it walked the two otters known as Emmitt and Kathy Otterton with the little telepathic girl named Rika Furude.
They each walked towards each other and shook hands and paws. They looked at the restaurant, then at each other.
"Here we are." Judy said.
The group started walking to the door. They walked in and asked for their tables. The waitress walked them to their booths. After that, there was silence.
"What now, Rika?" Judy asked, breaking the silence.
"Now... We wait." Said Rika.
Suddenly, Rika gasped and her eyes widened. She turned to the rabbit.
"She's here."
They heard a voice next to them.
"Rika."
They all turned and saw the black jaguar Manchas with the child goddess Hanyuu who was smiling. In an instant, Rika smiled a little and got out of her seat and walked over to her. For a minute, the two girls stared at each other. Then Rika spoke.
"Hanyuu."
They hugged each other. Everyone except Judy, Manchas, and the kids were both surprised and confused. Who was this girl? They wondered. Granted the other kids stuck out like a sore thumb, but this kid stuck out the most. She was dressed like she was from the feudal times. And to top it off, she had horns protruding from her head.
"So, that's Hanyuu?" Nick asked.
Judy nodded.
"It is, Nick. It is." She said.
The two children broke the hug.
"I just knew you were here, Rika." Hanyuu said.
Rika chuckled.
"I knew you were here too." She said.
Judy's phone dinged and she pulled it out and looked at it. When she did, her stomach dropped. She stared at it with a shocked and saddened face.
"Carrots? What's the matter?" Nick asked, noticing the change in his girlfriend's mood.
"Oh... my God. Guys... look." Said Judy.
Noticing this, everyone looked at what was on Judy's phone. They were also shocked at what they read:
Zootopia Times
Breaking News
Police Academy Coach Found Mutilated
Recently, the female polar bear police coach known as Madge Polarton, who had been missing for three days was found dead on the street in a black plastic trash bag. The polar bear's body was found mutilated and gutted with staples in her eyes and her limbs chopped off. Mammals especially predators are calling this the worst and scariest case in Zootopia history. Police say that the murder is suspected to be done by former Assistant Mayor Dawn Bellwether who has recently escaped prison with the help of a mysterious accomplice.
These two are to be considered armed and dangerous. Please be on the lookout. If you happen to see these two killers, please contact your local police department.
"Oh no." Nick said.
"I-I knew her. She went to my dentist. She told me all about her job as a police academy coach. I didn't think anyone would want to murder her." Said Kathy.
"Yeah. She was rough around the edges, but she meant well. And to be killed in such a brutal brutal way. I can only imagine how her family feels." Judy said.
"They'll be looking to put Bellwether's head on a plate that's for sure." Said Keiichi.
"I don't get it." Rena said, almost in tears, "Why would this Bellwether person would want to kill innocent mammals? Who is she anyway?"
Judy gritted her teeth, took a deep breath, and put her phone back in her pocket. She looked at Rena and the others.
"Look at me and listen. All of you."
She began to tell the children about the Nighthowler case that her and Nick worked on a few years ago. They eventually found out that predators were going savage because of toxic blue flowers called Nighthowlers. And that Bellwether was using them to make innocent predators go savage and start attacking innocent prey mammals, causing the city to almost go from a peaceful city to a divided predator hating hellhole.
She then told them about Bellwether being the Assistant Mayor and Mayor of Zootopia when it was going to hell. She also told them that she was a sheep that had a burning hatred of predators. Keiichi and his friends we're surprised and angry when they heard this. Especially Rena.
"How... awful. How... EVIL! How could she do such a thing?!" She cried, hitting the top of the table with her fist in the process.
She felt a paw on her hand. She turned to see Nick looking at her with a calm but firm look.
"Sometimes I wonder about that myself." He told her.
"Some say some mammals are just born evil." Said Emmitt.
"That's possible." Said Manchas.
"All the more reason we need to find the rest of our friends, find out what we're going to do about Bellwether and stop her once and for all." Rika said.
She turned to Hanyuu.
"Hanyuu. Do you think you can try to locate where Mion, Satoko, and Satoshi are in?"
Hanyuu nodded.
"Yes."
She closed her eyes and tried to focus.
"When we catch her, I hope she gets the death penalty to be honest." Nick said.
Judy turned to the fox.
"Nick!" She said, shocked that her boyfriend would say such a thing.
All of a sudden, they heard Hanyuu grunting. They turned to her as she fell to her knees.
"What is it, Hanyuu?" Nick asked, concerned.
"I... I feel something. I have found our three friends. They're in... in... someplace called... Bunnyburrow." She said.
Judy gasped.
"That's where my family and Gideon Grey are. Maybe they might be with them or know where they are." She said.
"That's... not all." Said Hanyuu, straining, "I sense something else. Or rather... someone."
"Who is it?" Asked Rika.
"It's... someone else who has the same power as us. I don't know... who it is. But I can tell you it's not... a human."
"Who is it?"
The child goddess finally stopped and caught her breath. She was panting heavily. She slowly rose to her feet. She looked at everyone sternly.
"I don't know who it is. The only way we're going to find out is if we go there immediately." She said.
"We also need to go there to find our three friends." Keiichi added, "Hopefully, they're okay."
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go." Said Nick.
"Nicholas Wilde. You read my mind." Said Judy.
And just like that, Judy, Nick, Emmitt, Kathy, Keiichi, Rena, Rika, and Hanyuu started to walk towards the entrance. However, they noticed that Manchas didn't move. They turned to him.
"Aren't you coming?" Judy asked.
The jaguar shook his head.
"No. I'm going to try my hardest to find out what I can about this. Plus, I and Mr. Big's other employees have to protect him and his family as well. If I find anything new, I'll be sure to let you know." He said.
Judy nodded. Hanyuu walked towards him and gave him a hug.
"Please be careful, Mr. Manchas." She said.
Manchas smiled a little as he hugged her back.
"I promise I'll be careful." He told her.
Author's Note: And that does it for this chapter. Man, it took a long time to finish. There's another mammal that has the same telepathic ability as Rika and Hanyuu? Who is it? Be sure to keep watch for the next chapter. Also, be sure to read and review and please share this story. Constructive feedback is welcome. Until then, see you next time, my fellow bronies and pegasisters.
