Episode 7: Hook Man
Disclaimer: I do not own Supernatural it belongs to Eric Kripke and the group, but the characters belong to myself and co-author and inspiration, LadyHimawari. I know it's been awhile since we've updated, but we're back on this, and this was the best time to post this chapter, about a popular urban legend. Happy Halloween~!
Somewhere in the college town of Ankeny Iowa, an unusual murder took place. A college student was killed and his girlfriend had survived.
She claimed the attacker was invisible which was the strangest part.
Of course Sonia and the Winchester boys were on the case, but as always the first thing on their minds was finding John Winchester and Sonia's older brother Rick.
Sam was obsessing over it. He tried as hard as he could to find any link to John, even ran his license plates for traffic violations. He and his new partner just dropped off the face of the earth it seemed. He only wished he had Sonia's faith in Rick being able to take care of himself, but wouldn't they have left a message of some kind to let them know they were still alive. The trio were having a coffee, in an outside cafe, with Dean of course teasing his brother on his choice of flavors.
"Your half-caff, double vanilla latte is getting cold over here, Francis," he smirked, as he searched info on their latest case online.
"You don't make fun of the coffee Sonia orders," Sam sighed shaking his head. He was already frustrated, and now this.
Dean shrugged, "You don't make fun of hot girls," he smirked at him.
Sam rolled his eyes, "You really are a douche," he shook his head. Sonia sipped at her coffee. "I just like peppermint in my coffee," she said, smiling adorably.
Dean shrugged, "And that's normal," he gestured to her
Sam gave him a light glare, "And my choice of coffee is laughable?" he rolled his eyes, and shook his head.
"Sam, what's wrong?" Sonia set her coffee cup down and glanced over at him. "You're usually a much better sport.."
"This," he held out the paper with the local news pointing out the latest news article.
"And lets see, the fact that dad's still out there, and probably worse off," he said snappishly.
"Look, they obviously don't want to be found. Don't worry so much, he's not alone. My brother is with him, he'll look out for your old man," Sonia sighed.
"For now let's focus on the job Dean found. We got a witness saying that they were attacked by an invisible man," She tried to smile
Sam sighed, "Unusual but not surprising," he muttered.
"Let's check it out anyway. Dad would," Dean said simply and nonchalantly. And there was no arguing there with that logic.
Before they knew it they were in the car, driving to Iowa. And it was the usual banter between Sam and Dean, with Sonia chiming in or giggled at the interaction.
Sonia glanced out of the window when they stopped, "Hey boys, amazing question - what's our story this time?" She asked
"We're...fraternity brothers from Ohio. You're from a sorority and a girlfriend to the other obviously," Sam answered plainly.
Sonia nodded at that, "Got it," she smiled.
There wasn't much talking except for Dean constantly teasing or prodding at Sam and Sam making some kind of retort. Sonia got out her iPod and was listening to her music and quietly singing along to her favorite parts. Dean would occasionally glance over at her at his rear view mirror. Sonia was enjoying the road trip, singing along quietly and tapping her fingers on her knee. She was enjoying being the passenger not the driver for a change~
Thankfully they made it there, and drove up to a frat house, where the victim lived.
"Do I have to go?" Sonia asked quietly, looking around. Honestly, this might not have been a good idea with all these guys around…hopefully it wouldn't turn into a fight.
"Why are we here again," Sam grumbled looking up at the house.
"Good question," Sam muttered.
"Tell ya what, I'll guard the car," She tried to offer
Sam gave Dean a look who quietly agreed, "Fine," he grumbled.
"I just,, already told you, I don't like fraternity houses. I get way too much attention. If you want to see guys staring at me left and right - I can come," Sonia said, putting away her player.
"No, you can stay here," Dean said, then took a second look at a more quiet hostile looking frat guy, "Or you can come cause you might be more persuasive for him to talk to."
Sonia nodded, "I'll let it be your call," she said, linking her arm with his as they walked towards the other guys, most of which were tinkering with their cars.
"Nice wheels," Dean commented as they approached them.
The guys just stared at them, or specifically from Dean and Sam then finally landing on Sonia. So much for a conversation starter.
Dean stared back tightening his arm around Sonia, "We're your fraternity brothers...from Ohio. Lookin' for a place to crash."
One of the guys nudged his friend and motioned to Sonia, "And what's your name?" He grinned.
"I'm with this one," Sonia said quickly, getting closer to Dean
"Yup she's my girlfriend," Dean smiled wrapping his arm tighter around her.
They were shown to a room, where a guy was standing in front of a mirror, with a paint brush. "Who're you?" he asked. Sonia blinked. The dude was purple,,,? Why…?
"We're your new roommates," Dean answered smirking slowly and arching up his brow. Sam just stared. If Sonia had to guess, probably pep rally~
"Oh, would one of you get my back?" he asked, offering the paintbrush to Sonia, who gave an odd smile.
Dean glanced at Sam and jabbed a thumb at him, "He's the artist."
"So...Merv? Is it true that one of the guys got killed here last week?" Dean asked, flopping down on the sofa
Merv deflated slightly at that, "Yeah...they say some drifter or psycho with a knife did it..."
"Rich was a good guy," he claimed.
"Was he alone?" Sonia asked curiously, "I mean there was a witness, but no name was brought up in the paper."
"Oh yeah and not just witness, his girlfriend. Really pretty and hot, and really nice. Freshman. Lori Sorensen," he said.
Sonia glanced at Merv, "But why not let her name be brought up in the paper?"
"She's kind of local, you know? The Reverend's daughter," Merv exaggerated. Oh, so basically she's the It Girl.
"She's the pastor's daughter," the spray painted guy said.
Sonia nodded, "No wonder she wouldn't want to publicity," she said glancing over at Dean on the sofa. Well.. He looked comfy~ Dean smirked over at her and motioned for her to join him.
Sonia chuckled and went over sitting not just next to him, but in his lap, with a playful smirk.
Dean smirked wrapping an arm around her waist. Sonia pecked his cheek, wrapping an arm around his neck. If they were a part of the fraternity – might as well play the part~
Dean smirked at her wickedly.
Sonia wiggled teasingly, making herself comfortable in his lap then glanced back at the purple man, "which church is the pastor assigned to?" She asked
In the end the frat boy told them.
"Come on, Dean," Sonia smirked getting off of his lap. "Let's go to church~" Dean got up tensely but with a firm grin, "You got it."
"Aw~ is something wrong?" She teased, in a low whisper, turning to face him once again.
"Nope. No," Dean just smirked, looking right at her and squirming slightly.
Sonia pecked his lips, "Come on then," she said with a chuckle
Dean returned her peck and followed after her. The trio arrived to the church right as the priest was delivering the sermon. They met the girl and her father. Sonia wasn't so sure she liked his holier than thou attitude, it reminded her of…someone. Someone she would rather forget.
And neither seemed to want to say anything about the accident. So the girl ended heading back to her dorm room. "Well.. That went well," Sonia sighed.
"Library?" She asked them knowingly.
Sam nodded, "Library." He answered.
Sonia looked over at Dean, "That's never fun~" she chuckled and grinned at him. Dean smirked, "Well, I've never been inside a library, but even know what can be fun and what can't."
Sonia smirked, "but research comes first, fun second," she moved closer to him, wrapping her arm around his waist and slipping her hand into the back pocket of his jeans, still wanting to tease him a bit.
Dean stiffened, "You're gonna regret that hon'," he whispered into her ear.
Sonia winked, "Maybe it's what I want~" she smirked, "I want to see how much I can get away with~" she grinned
Dean rubbed her hip, "You'll find out tonight."
Sonia giggled, giving his ass a little squeeze, "You better mean that~" She was starting to love the games they'd play. In a way it was like their own prank war, like the one Dean had filled her in on, what he and used to do with Sam; only this excited him more~
"You know it," he whispered into her ear temptingly. Two could play at this game~
Sonia smirked, and took this chance to peck his lips, lovingly. He returned the peck deeply and hugged her.
Sonia nipped at his lips, and smirked, "we're getting distracted," she whispered playfully.
"You're distracting," he pointed out.
Sonia smirked, "You could have stopped me~" she pointed out in return, quipping back playfully.
"And disappoint you? No," he smirked back.
"Aw, well aren't you sweet~?" She chuckled and together they walked to the car. Sammy was already inside, waiting for the two. He was already used to giving his brother and Sonia time to themselves.
In a way it was refreshing to see Dean this relaxed and actually serious about someone for once.
Dean and Sonia made their way inside the library building. "Sorry, let's get to the library for the research," Sonia smiled innocently at the brothers
Dean smirked and shook his head. Sonia winked at him. She was going to look forward to when the job would be over~
When they finally sat down for research, they did realize that there was more then they thought .
But they did find something.. Who the possible hook man was, and turned out he was more than just an urban legend, but also the town history.
"1862, a preacher was arrested for murder. He was so angry about the red district in town that in one night he killed 13 prostitutes," Sam showed Fran and Sonia the old papers. "Some of the deceased were found in their beds, sheets soaked with blood, others suspended upside down from limbs of trees as a warning.."
And it all happened in the same place where Rich was killed.
"Look at the murder weapon," Sonia said curiously, peaking over Dean's shoulder. "Looks like he lost his hand in an accident. It was replaced with a hook.."
Dean stared at it, "Huh, you're right."
"You two also think we have to look into where the hook is?" Sonia asked them curiously.
Dean nodded, "Yeah. That might be a good way to start."
Even though it was late in the evening and dark the gang headed to where the preacher was buried.
They wanted to check things out to prevent anyone else getting hurt.
That involved going to the site and digging and looking for it to salt and burn. But unfortunately for the three of them, they were caught by the sheriff. Or at least Sam was since he was the one openly holding the loaded gun. Dean and Sonia were able to get off the hook, but spent most of the night trying to bail Sam out of jail. Eventually Dean had told the Sheriff that he was trying to haze Sam and that's why he had a gun in case anything happened. That it was also a pledge.
"Sorry," Sam said walking out of the station and to the car. Sonia was about to say something when a few officers ran out of the building and to their car. "I think something's up you guys..." she said with a frown.
"Like what?" Sam asked looking at her curiously.
"Maybe the preacher got to someone else?" Sonia said looking concerned.
The three of them watch as Lori shows up at the police station and soon her dad is there to pick her up.
"It's her again..." Sonia frowned. Something was wrong with this picture…
"Yeah Lori," Sam said.
"Maybe you should go talk to her..? She responded a lot better to you last time," Sonia said quietly. Sam nodded and slowly walked over to Lori to talk to her and comfort her.
Sonia stayed with Dean, leaning a little against him. Dean wrapped his arm around Sonia and rubbed her shoulder. Sonia placed a hand over his own, thinking the case over.
"So what do you make of all this," Dean asked her looking over at her, searching her face.
"We need to find what's keeping the ghost here," Sonia said. "And I also think it's weird that the victims are Lori's boyfriend, then her room mate.."
"I doubt it's a coincidence. I don't believe in those," she shrugged a bit, still holding his hand in hers.
Dean nodded, "I think its a safe bet her father might be next," he admitted. He rubbed the pad of his thumb along her hand softly.
"Right. The preacher was killing prostitutes, to draw attention to the sins of the flesh. The boy made a move on Lori, he was strung up. The girl, roommate, possibly setting off a bad example, was killed in her bed," she nodded. "It all makes sense"
"It's her dad," he said quietly.
Sonia nodded, "Yup." A dad, who was a public moral figure, but trying to hold on to and control his daughter and keep her virtuous in the face of college dorm life. Dean watched as the preacher came and led Lori away from Sam.
Sonia sighed, "Sorry Sammy." If anyone could guess it might have looked like Sam struck out with Lori and this was halted by her dad.
Sam shook his head, "It's fine," he admitted.
"Dean and I have a theory," Sonia said, "We were planning to keep an eye on Lori and her dad"
"I can do it," Sam said.
"You sure? We were gonna go all together," Sonia said
"Yeah, I'm sure, besides someone needs to go to the grave site of Jacob Karns," Sam said flatly.
Sonia looked at Dean, "We'll go then," she nodded with a little smile.
Dean nodded with her in agreement, "Good idea, and besides this would be good for you and her too," he smirked at him.
Sam nodded, rolling his eyes, "Good then, thanks."
"No problem," Sonia smiled. "Good luck~"
"Yeah you too," Sam smiled back, and waved to them as he walked off.
"Come on, handsome," Sonia said with a smile, leading him away. Dean followed after her with a smirk.
Sam watched them, shaking his head. Seems like this was going to be a regular thing. They decided to do some more investigating first though. Sam didn't want to but there was a frat party and Dean was pretty enthusiastic about it.
Funny Dean now had a girlfriend and yet he still acted his usual self. Sonia let him wander around. She wanted to see how he'd behave, if she showed him some trust. Dean seemed to act casual like it was nothing, but he didn't respond to much flirting. Sonia smirked at this. And went over to him, moving a bit to the music~ Dean could bet this wasn't Sammy's experience at college~ From what he got it was filled with studying, hanging out probably with one friend and one girlfriend. Now this is what Dean liked about college~ And Sonia looked like she blended right in and was enjoying the moment as well.
Dean grinned at her and went to wrap his arms around her from behind, "Havin' fun?"
Sonia smirked, "Of course~" she said, moving against him playfully.
Dean swallowed back a groan and bent down pressing a kiss to her neck. Sonia smirked, leaning into his touch, "how about you?" She teased.
"Oh you know I am," Dean smirked back at her.
Sonia smirked even wider, and rubbed against him a little more to tease him. Dean bent down and pecked her lips. Sonia turned around to face him and return his kiss, deepening it. He ran his hand through her hair and held the kiss for a bit longer. The blonde nipped at his lips, then pulled away slowly. He smiled at her and let her be in control, he enjoyed that side of her if he had to be honest.
"I'm getting ideas in my head.. So easy to get carried away with you," she chuckled
"Same here," he smirked back at her.
Sonia grinned, "I'd take you right here~ " she whispered into his ear
"You sure it wouldn't be the other way around," Dean smirked at her.
"I don't know~" Sonia giggled playfully, leaning against him, rubbing against him subtly.
Dean chuckled, "Well I've been told I looked pretty scary."
"So far I've been dominating~" Sonia smirked at him.
"Yeah we'll see about that," he smirked back at her.
"You'll have to prove that," Sonia giggled at that.
"That I will," Dean smirked, challenging her playfully and pecked her cheek.
"Hey guys," Sam came up to them. "I found something.. What if the Lori's father is summoning the ghost? Or it's attached to the man? Feeding off his repressed emotions? Without himself even knowing it.."
Dean nodded, "could be.. Then we're going to follow through with that plan. You go watch Lori, and we..." He looked at Sonia almost pouting. "We'll go look for that unmarked grave.."
That was definitely not how he pictured a date would go.
Dean hung his head and headed out to the car. "He'll get over it," Sonia reassured Sam, seeing the confused look he was giving his brother. Sam nodded, "He better...," he sighed.
It did actually make him happy seeing Dean experience some kind of normal and was all thanks to Sonia, Sam would have to admit.
Sonia smiled sheepishly, "I'll make it up to him"
Sam closed his eyes, "Don't tell me that," he snickered.
"It's not like I'm telling you what exactly I'm going to do for Dean," Sonia smirked
Sam shrugged, "Just go with him," he smirked quietly.
Sonia nodded, "Come on, we'll drop you off at Lori's," she let him know. Sam nodded and followed after her, "Thanks."
They dropped Sam off at Lori's then headed to the graveyard. "This is so not the way I wanted this night to end," Dean grumbled under his breath.
Sonia chuckled, "I'll make it up to you, promise."
"Thanks but next time I'm letting him have the grave duty," he admitted.
"Of course, love," Sonia reached out to run her fingers through his hair. Dean smiled over at her and leaned into her touch.
"You still have me for company," Sonia leaned over in her seat and pecked his lips.
He smirked and returned the peck, "Well, aren't I the lucky one," he grinned.
"And after this job, we'll do whatever you like," Sonia said, placing a hand on his knee, leaning over a little in her seat.
Dean smirked, "Anything?"
"Anything.. at.. all~" Sonia grinned playfully
Dean grinned back, "Good." he said smugly.
Sonia giggled, kissing his cheek. Dean smiled at her, and took her hand into his own calloused one.
The blonde gave his hand a warm, loving squeeze. "We'll have all the fun you like. Just need to finish up the case~"
"Yup, and hopefully this'll be a piece of cake," he admitted.
"Hopefully," Sonia nodded. She looked out the window at the cemetery. "Let's find this grave."
Dean nodded and proceeded to look around with her; it was actually nice not to do this alone, and suddenly Dean was glad for her company and her being here and hunting with them.
When they finally found the grave, Dean was the one doing the digging. Sonia was getting out the salt and gasoline. Then she glanced over at Dean, digging. She had to admit it was a pleasant sight~
His backside was facing her, and she had a good view~ Sonia gave him a whistle, and grinned. Dean paused and gave her a look, "..."
"What?" Sonia giggled impishly at him.
Dean shook his head, "Usually I'm supposed to do that. First time this happened to me," he murmured humorously.
Sonia smirked, "Well, I'm getting a nice sight, from here~"
Dean rolled his eyes, "Next time you also get to do the work, so I can watch your ass do the work," he smirked.
"You would make me do the hard work?" Sonia pretended to look shocked
Dean looked back over his shoulder and saw her face, "Uh..., no I'd just make you stand in front of me then bend over," he said quickly.
"Ah, that's an image you like," Sonia chuckled.
"Uh huh~," Dean grinned at her.
Sonia laughed. At least they were having some fun with this. And Dean was distracted from being grumpy about the work. Sonia glanced at the remains in the grave and threw salt down onto the bones.
Dean watched her, "Guess that's it. Wonder how Sammie's doin..."
"Hopefully just as good," Sonia said, throwing down the match and burning the remains. She watched them burn, then glanced at Dean. "What should we do now?" She asked curiously. "The night is still young~"
"Or we can go check on Sam," Sonia offered thoughtfully.
"Well you did make me a promise," he winked at her.
Sonia nodded, "But yes, yes I did. What are you more in the mood for?" She asked warmly, "So what can I do for you?" Sonia asked playfully
"Well, first we should find a place," he smirked, "Doing this in a cemetery really ain't my thing."
"Okay~" Sonia smirked, "There's a motel close by," she smiled at him invitingly.
Dean smirked, "Lets head there then," he smiled and grabbed her hand, and leading her out. Sonia followed him eagerly.
In a flash he took them to the motel and paid for it quickly. They got inside the room, and Sonia pulled him closer, kissing him eagerly; they could barely keep their hands off of each other. He kissed her back deeply and wrapped his arms around her tight small body.
Sonia leaned against him, "so, what are you in the mood for, baby?" She whispered against his lips, nipping at them, "A promise is a promise~"
Dean smirked, "I feel like being on top this time."
"Lead the way," Sonia smirked, moving her lips down his neck, playfully kissing him. He smirked and picked her up lifting her up and carrying her to the bed.
Sonia lied back, motioning for him to join her. Dean crawled on top of her and pressed his lips against hers. Sonia groaned, kissing him back and grinding against him teasingly. He moved back against her roughly and desperately. Sonia kissed him harder, moving her lips roughly against his. He kissed her back and nipped her bottom lip. Sonia moaned again, leaning into his touch. Dean groaned against her mouth and continued on; he pawed at her clothes and threw them off then along with his own, and couldn't get enough touching her feeling her curves, and her soft skin, before plunging into her over and over, feeling so desperate for her, just wanting to consume her as a whole, and wanting to stay like this forever.
When they were tired out Sonia, cuddled closer to him, wrapping her arms around him, tiredly. He wrapped his arms around her tightly, holding onto her as he slept. Sonia pecked his brow and rested her head on his shoulder, drifting off to sleep as well.
Meanwhile Sam was doing his part and watching Lori. It looked like she and her dad were having an argument of some sort. Then she came out, and looked over at Sam. Turned out that she noticed him there earlier and now decided to let him know this.
She needed someone to talk to. Lori had just looked so surprised that Sam was actually concerned about her. Sam stared at her, "Is...everything okay...?"
"Yeah.. Just my father is a hypocrite.." Lori frowned. "He preaches about immorality and sin... And yet.. He's seeing a married woman. She comes the church, with her husband, I know her kids..." Lori looked upset at this alone, and at the hypocrisy.
And Sam could somewhat understand and he let her know how much he understood. Sam frowned, "I'm...I'm sorry," he said.
"Lori, come back inside," came the father's voice from the house. Sam looked up at Mr. Sorensen then back at Lori.
"I'll come in when I'm ready," Lori snapped.
Lori shared with Sam her concerns about being cursed, and Sam agreed that he knew how she felt. Suddenly Lori leaned in and kissed Sam on the lips. Sam paused at this, but then slowly pulled away, "I'm sorry...I can't..."
"Is it because of the person you lost?" She asked
He stared at her, as his mind went back to Jessica, "You can say that..." It was all still so fresh in his mind; in a way didn't she find some peace and move on and live…? That's when Lori's father stepped out, trying to force his daughter back inside. And Lori argued back with him.
It was then, the Hook Man appeared and grabbed Mr. Sorensen. Sam instantly grabbed his salt gun and ran inside the house to help the man.
After Sam had shot at him once the Hook Man disappeared, leaving behind Sam and the severely injured preacher. Immediately they acted as fast as they could to get the preacher help. But this only left Sam with more questions regarding this attack.
Pushing the thought back for the time being he refocused on Lori and her father.
They took him to the hospital and Sam was soon questioned by the sheriff, "I've seen you way, way, too many times now. You better keep sharp," he warned Sam.
They heard noise down the hall, "No, that's my brother," came Dean's voice shouting, "Hey~," he grinned noticing Sam. "Hey, brother!"
Sam glanced at Dean sharply. Sonia was right behind Dean, tying her hair back in a messy pony. Sam looked between the two and it clicked what had happened. He groaned. Did they even burn the bones...?
They better have. Otherwise, they'd have to figure out why else the hook man was still around.
"You okay?" Dean asked him with concern and interest.
"No. No I'm not. Did you burn the bones of the Karns or didn't you?" Sam asked him quietly but frantically.
"Of course we did. We're professionals," Dean frowned at that.
"You sure it's Karns ghost?" Sonia asked pensively.
"It has to be, he just attacked Lori's dad," he said then paused slowly. But that didn't sound right, as Sam began to realize it and soon the thought resurfaced again.
"Then we were wrong, it's not latching on to Lori's father," Sonia said quietly. "Maybe Lori's it... I mean, it could be. A boyfriend who comes on to strong.. A friend who tries to turn her into a party girl..."
"A father who's having an affair.." Sam nodded adding onto the list, slowly realizing this. Dean stared at them and blinked slowly, "Remind me to never piss a girl off. At least this girl," he added quickly.
"But look, you guys, we torched the body. I did it personally.." Sonia said patting Dean's shoulder so he wouldn't get distracted. "Unless the ghost is attached to an object..?"
"The hook," Sam suddenly said, it dawning on him.
"We gotta find out what happened to it," Sonia nodded. "We destroy that, we get rid of out ghost."
"Back to the library then," Sam said firmly agreeing with her.
"But I don't wanna," Dean grumbled under his breath.
Sam gave him a look but smiled, "You already had your fun, now let's go," Sam stated humorously.
Sonia bit her lip, "If it makes you feel better, we rushed here, first thing."
"Actually yeah it does," Sam smirked a little at that.
Dean gave a dry laugh, "Killjoy," he scoffed. He was hoping to wake up, next to Sonia, maybe go for another quick round. Let her cuddle. Apparently Dean was a cuddler~
He'd never admit this, but if Sonia was to cuddle to him, he'd never dare to stop her. He liked having her that close to him~
And he liked the feeling of being close to someone and just any someone but someone who understood.
Sonia glanced over at him, "oh don't pout, we had fun~" she whispered to him, trying to tuck a messy curl behind her ear. Dean smirked at her, "Yeah we did," he smirked at her with a wide smile.
"Love you," she whispered lowly and sweetly into his ear as they walked to the car.
"Me too," he whispered back into her ear, and got behind the wheel.
Sam watched the two whisper, "You two are terrible," he shook his head lightly. Seriously the two were such lovebirds, but it was nice to watch Dean have some happiness.
"Says the guy who's still single and not gettin' any," Dean whispered back.
"Dean, if you went through what Sam did it would take you a while to get back out there as well," Sonia said in Sam's defense then paused, "or.. I hope.."
Dean paused, but nodded, giving a noncommittal grunt at that. Alright so she did have a point
Sonia grew quiet for a moment, as she got into the back seat, "Well, if I do die on the job, know that I'm.. Absolutely okay with you moving on as quickly as you see appropriate," she said
"Who says I will," he grumbled.
"Not like you're gonna die on my watch anyways," he mumbled.
"Just saying.. With a job like this, you never know," Sonia pointed out as she stared out the window.
Dean got quiet and just drove on ahead. He meant what he said – she wouldn't be dying on his watch and he wouldn't let her be taken from him just like that, nothing would get through him to her.
Sam watched them, quietly. "Dean's got a lot more to say than he actually does," he reassured Sonia. She glanced over at Sam and nodded silently. Looks like even Dean had a heart too.
When they got to the library, Sonia went right into the research, leaving Dean alone with his thoughts.
Sonia grabbed herself some material and went to sit next to Dean. She was peeking over at him. She actually was curious how Dean would take it if she wasn't around anymore
Dean was sitting back looking at some articles with an expressionless face. Sonia bit her lip nervously. Hopefully he wasn't upset with her for bringing this up
Dean looked through the articles, and didn't seem to notice her stare. Sonia looked down at the papers on her hands, and got down to work with a quiet little sigh. She was almost positive he was angry at her, so she decided to give him some space.
It was then Sam came up to them with some articles he found. He stared from his brother to Sonia, looking surprised. Was it worth the risk to talk to them? Oh well, he had to anyway
"Guys I think I may have found something," Sam said bravely.
"What is it?" Sonia asked quietly
"I found some old prison records," Sam said as he pulled up some articles.
"The hook was sent back to the church, in 1862 when Karns was executed," Sam explained, "It was reforged."
Sonia leaned in closer to Dean so they could all read the article. She stole a quick glance at him, hoping he didn't mind this.
Dean looked like he wasn't bothered by her closeness.
"Any idea what it was forged into?" She asked
Sam shook his head, "No, but whatever it is, it's still at the church, and is without a doubt a silver object. It might be the chalices from the communion or the silver crucifix there," he mumbled.
Sonia frowned, "yeah and we'll have such luck getting our hands on either one of those items.." She sighed, pulling back, away from Dean and resting against the back of her chair.
"I said it might be," Sam said, "It really could be anything," he added, "We just have to go in there tonight and look."
Sonia nodded, "Right. You cool with that?" She asked Dean, giving him tiny smile
Dean glanced at her and smiled back, "I'm all for it," he said. Sam practically breathed out in relief. Okay, they were okay.
Dean could only stay mad for so long, he wasn't very good at holding grudges especially when it came to girls~
Sonia gave his hand a squeeze and smiled. He squeezed back and returned the smile.
Together the trio headed back to the church. They rummaged through the valuables trying to find any sort of silver object. All of it was better off burned. They started tossing anything silver into the church's furnace.
All would have been well, if they didn't find out that Lori was in the church - praying.
She must have been blaming herself for the Hook man's appearance. Somehow she had figured out that this al involved her.
"Sam - go to her, we got this," Sonia assured him, then turned to nod at Dean. This was their cue to go and do what they needed to do.
Sam quietly walked over to where Lori was, "Hey..."
"What are you doing here..?" Lori asked with a sniffle.
Sam stared at her, "Just...," he didn't know how to answer that.
"I've been trying to understand what happening and why... And now I know," Lori said tearfully. "So I'm praying for forgiveness.."
"Forgiveness for what?" Sam asked crouching down a little.
"Don't you see... I'm to blame for all of this," Lori said, looking at him with glassy eyes. "I've read in the bible about avenging Angels.."
"Trust me this guy, he's no angel," Sam comforted her, knowing that this was far from it.
"I was so angry with my father, part of me wanted him punished, and then... He came..." She whispered
"It's not your fault," Sam murmured to her softly, he knew the guilt she must have carried around; it was similar to his own after all.
"I killed Rich, Taylor, and now I almost killed my father…"Lori whimpered through her tears.
Sam shook his head slowly, "Lori.." How much relief could be given if she only knew the truth. It was never her fault.
"I can see it now - they didn't deserve to be punished," she murmured, "I do..."
Sam opened his mouth to say something comforting, thinking of how encouraging Sonia would do. Maybe it was time he could open himself to another human being for the first time, just as the words were about to push through, he froze and then stood up slowly.
The candles had blow out and it was pitch black inside. Sam grabbed Lori's hand, catching that out of the corner of his eye, "Come on. We gotta get out of here," he said urgently
He led her to the door and opened it and saw the Hook Man and immediately closed it, "Come on. Go!" He told Lori and led her away as he ran with her.
He led her into another room and was about to close the door until the Hook man broke through the window of the door and swung at Sam. They struggled to get away from the Hook Man until he had then trapped in a corner.
"Sam, drop!" Dean called out as he hurried to rescue his brother. Sam dropped just in time to let Dean shoot at the Hook Man.
"Didn't we get all the silver?" Sonia frowned, her own gun at ready. Sam looked around frantically, "We must have missed something."
"Like what?" Dean frowned looking all over, wondering what could have been mixed.
Sam looked around then back at Lori and his eyes caught a glint of silver around her neck, "Lori! Where did you get that chain?"
"My father gave it to me. Said it was a church heirloom.." Lori said, sounding terrified.
"And its silver," Sam asked frantically.
"Yes..."Lori nodded quickly
Sam grabbed her necklace and at that moment there was a carving forming on the walls.
Dean threw Sam his gun and motioned for him to give him the cross. "Hurry," Sonia urged, watching the carving get closer
Sam tossed him the cross and got the gun and held it up, shooting at the wall where the carve was.
Sonia and Dean hurried back to the furnace to burn the cross, racing against the clock and this apparition.
Meanwhile Sam had stopped to reload the gun with his uninjured hand. Dean had quickly tossed the cross into the furnace and watched.
As the cross melted in the heat, the ghost vanished, leaving Lori to stare at the sight in disbelief.
Dean nudged Sonia to follow him back to check on Sam and Lori. Sonia nodded, hurrying after Dean.
Dean and her found Sam and Lori, Dean smiled at them both. Sonia smiled in relief seeing both were okay and jumped onto Dean happily from behind. Dean chuckled at that action and wrapped an arm around her patting her back.
Sonia have him a quick, loving, peck on the lips and grinned. Dean smiled against her lips and rubbed her back.
But of course they still had to explain what happened to the sheriff that next morning. "And you both saw the man with the hook?" He gave Dean and Sonia a flat look as he asked this. To them he looked exasperated and wanting to be done with this case or was it them?
"He was terrifying," Sonia said, blinking innocently.
Dean nodded, "Yeah we all saw him and fought him and he ran off."
"Listen..." The sheriff glared at them, "you.." He pointed to Dean, "take your brother and your girlfriend here, and..."
"Yeah we're leaving don't worry," he said. "This place is too religious for me," he grumbled.
Sonia giggled and followed him to the Impala. This time she climbed into the front seat and leaned over to press a kiss to his cheek. "You big, tough guy, you~" she teased
Dean smirked, "Yeah well for a hunter, you look too innocent," he chuckled teasing her back.
"That's the whole idea," she giggled playfully. "That way no one suspects a thing~"
Dean chuckled then looked at his rearview mirror and paused, "Speaking of not suspecting," he stared at Sam and Lori.
"They look cute," Sonia admitted. "Give Sam some privacy. He doesn't stare at us," she nudged him playfully. Dean nodded, snickering and looked away then back at her.
Sam meanwhile was saying his goodbye's to Lori, at least it gave them both some closure before they left. Sam then slowly walked away from her.
Sonia and Dean welcomed him back in the car. And it was off to the next town~ It was one of those peaceful rides into the next rest stop.
