Chapter 5
Halloween morning dawned cool and slightly overcast but didn't show signs of rain. The brothers woke at the same time and Dean used the bathroom first so he could go get breakfast for them. His mind was still on the alluring woman he met yesterday in the bar and realized he didn't even know her name. The poster in the lobby pegged her a Mistress of Illusions and Magic. His dreams were filled with her smiling face and how she made him feel. It was like he was obsessing with her and couldn't wait for tonight to see her again.
Sam was sitting at the table waiting on him when Dean came back with bags of food and coffee. He eyed Dean suspiciously knowing something was up with him but didn't know what. He had a feeling it had to do with the lipstick on his brother's face. Usually, Dean proudly told him about his love life even though he didn't want all the juicy details, but not this time.
"What time do we need to leave for the show?" Sam asked Dean but didn't get an answer. "Hey man, did you hear me?"
"What? Yeah, whatever you said," Dean offered having no idea what Sam said.
"I asked, when do we need to leave tonight?"
"I figured we'd have dinner out at the restaurant there and go on to the show from there."
"Okay, I'll get my shower later then."
"And you can use the brace I got you. It should help stabilize your knee and hep with the pain."
"I planned on it. The swelling has gone down quite a bit and it doesn't hurt as bad."
"Oh, I got you a pair of jeans and sweats when I was out the other day. I'll go get them out of the car." Dean got up and headed back outside to get the bag from the car. He came back in and gave Sam the bag. "They should fit."
"Thanks," Sam replied pulling out the jeans and a couple pair of sweats.
"Well, I did cut up the other ones," he shrugged not wanting a chick flick moment. "I figure we can pack most of our stuff before we leave so we'll ready to head out in the morning. Check out time is at noon, so we can sleep in."
"Fine with me." Sam could tell Dean didn't want praise or to get all mushy about this and didn't say anything else about the clothes. He was happy to have them since he didn't have that many.
The brothers lounged around the room until it was time to get ready to head out for dinner and a show. Dean let Sam use the bathroom first since he was still nursing an injury and stayed nearby in case he needed his help. Once Sam was done and dressed, Dean took his shower, taking longer than usual since he wanted to look his best.
Sam watched with interest as Dean exited the bathroom with a towel cinched around his hips and began looking through his duffle. He pulled all the clothes out and looked at them trying to decide what to wear. He hadn't seen him be this particular about what he wore before and wondered who he was trying to impress. Sam had a feeling it was a woman and wondered who she was.
"Having a problem finding something to wear?" Sam questioned cocking his head and arching his eyebrows.
"No," Dean replied pulling out a new shirt and cutting the tags off it. He shook it out and looked at it for a moment.
"You're being awfully particular about what you're going to wear. If I didn't know better I'd say you're trying to impress someone, maybe a woman…" Sam teased watching when Dean jerked his head up and glared at him.
"Mind your own business," Dean grumbled gathering his clothes and stalking back into the bathroom, slamming the door for emphasis.
Sam couldn't help but chuckle since it seemed he had hit a nerve and wondered where he met her. He adjusted his brace to get it comfortable before slowly standing and taking a tentative step with one crutch. He was pleased that the brace was helping and relieving most of the pain he had been in.
"Okay," Dean announced stepping from the bathroom dressed and looking handsome. "You ready to go eat?"
"Yeah, I think I can use one crutch with the brace on."
"Why don't you take both just in case. I ain't hauling your heavy ass back to the car."
"Screw you. Jerk."
"Bitch, come on hop along, there's a thick, juicy, steak with my name on it waiting for me." Dean headed for the door and at least held it open for Sam so he could get out. He went to the car and unlocked it, letting Sam get in the backseat. Once he was settled, Dean got in the car and drove across town to the motel/conference center.
They went inside to the restaurant and got seated to have dinner before the magic show. Dean ordered his steak with fries, sautéed onions, and a large slice of pie. Sam was more health conscious and ordered grilled chicken breast, baked potato, small salad, and mixed fruit for dessert. They enjoyed their meal and people watched since everyone coming and going were dressed in costumes.
"I got us good seats," Dean told Sam as he walked down the aisle looking for their seat numbers. "It's close enough that we can see what is going on. Plus, I used you being injured to get a little more room."
"Dean, I'm not crippled," Sam chastised him in a low voice so others wouldn't hear.
"You're using crutches, right?"
"Yes, but…"
"And you have a brace on your knee."
"Yes, but…"
"I rest my case," Dean stated. "There they are. You go in first Sammy, there's room to stretch your leg out."
"Fine," Sam sighed shaking his head but pleased that Dean thought about him wanting to be sure he was comfortable. He eased down into the seat and put his crutch to the side out of the way.
"See, I told you these were good seats," Dean beamed as he plopped down beside him and took in the view of the stage.
"How many acts will there be?" Sam asked.
"Don't know."
"Is it all magic acts?"
"Don't know."
"Do you know anything?" Sam questioned in annoyance.
"Chill Sammy and enjoy the show."
The room began to fill, everyone finding their seats and getting settled as the lights dimmed slightly and the emcee came out to welcome everyone and to thank them for coming to support the convention. He spoke for a few minutes before getting the show started.
The first magician performed his act with flamboyance and style doing some common acts and then ones that he created. Everyone clapped loudly when he was finished and waited as the stage was cleared for the next act.
"He wasn't bad," Dean commented.
"Yeah, he was good," Sam replied. "I had most of the tricks figured out, but one did stump me."
"Keep it to yourself brainiac," Dean scoffed. "You don't need to spoil it for the rest of us."
"I was only saying," Sam shrugged.
"Shush, the next act is starting," Dean whispered loudly as he watched the next magician take the stage.

Dean was starting to get worried that she wasn't going to be doing her act since it was getting near the end. He sat up when she was introduced and leaned forward to see her.
Sam watched his brother curious about his actions and looked to the stage as a young woman stepped gracefully to the stage. She was dressed in black, with a black mask covering her eyes. He couldn't tell exactly what she looked like, but her figure looked almost perfect. He watched Dean drool over her as she began her act.
Everyone ducked when Morris suddenly flew around the room above their heads to land easily on her arm. She introduced him to the audience and gave some information about ravens and how she obtained Morris.
Dean poked Sam in the ribs and pointed to the bird mouthing 'I told you so'. He frowned at Dean but didn't say anything. They watched as the woman magician went through her routine. Everyone clapped loudly when she took Morris and placed him in a box and turned him into a handsome man. She then magically turned him back into a raven. As her act neared the end, she gave Morris a slip of paper and motioned for him to fly.
Dean stared in shock as Morris flew around for a moment before landing on the railing in front of him. He hopped onto his knee and dropped the paper in his lap before taking off and joining his partner on the stage. Dean blushed slightly when he heard mumbles around him talking about him. He opened the paper and quickly read it, before pocketing it and trying to keep a straight face. The note had a room number and time with one sentence, 'Want to join me later?' and ended it with a red kiss.
Sam looked at Dean's smug face and already knew his brother was probably going to get lucky tonight. He couldn't help but snicker at him as he pushed himself from his seat like the rest of the crowd to give the female magician a standing ovation. He smiled widely as Dean whistled and clapped the loudest of them all.
"That was a good show," Sam commented as they made their way from the room.
"It was. I'm going to drop you at the motel," Dean told him.
"You have a hot date tonight?"
"Who knows, but don't wait up for me," Dean replied in a smug voice.
"I figured as much. Are we still leaving in the morning?"
"Yep, I've had enough of this town and want to leave on a happy note."
"Good, I'm ready too." Sam sat back and couldn't help being happy for his brother. He needed a little happiness in his life once and a while. He couldn't wait to get to Bobby's where he would at least have something to do. He was bored of staying in the motel room with the only thing to do was watch television or browse the internet. Sam hadn't felt like cruising the internet with his head bothering him and he couldn't concentrate.
Dean pulled into the motel parking lot and stopped in front of their room. He helped Sam out and got him inside. He headed into the bathroom to brush his teeth and make sure he looked okay. When he was done and stepped from the bathroom Sam spoke to him
"Dean, enjoy yourself, but be careful," Sam cautioned him as he got ready to leave.
"I'm always careful Sammy," Dean replied slipping several condoms into his wallet and holding it up for Sam to see before slipping it into his back pocket. "See you later."
Sam watched Dean walk from the room with a spring in his step and hoped he had a good time, and the night wasn't going to be a flop. He headed to the bathroom to get ready for bed humming to himself.
