Chapter 14 the Second Wave
The Shield Hero party found themselves being transported to where the Wave would hit outside of Lute Village alongside them were the other Hero parties, a red warp hole was in the sky which monsters of various kinds we're spilling out of it and were falling or flying towards Lute village, Malty looked over to see how Naofumi was and judging from his wide eyes and gaping mouth he was in a state of shock, Malty placed a comforting hand on Naofumi's shoulder drawing his attention.
''It's going to be ok, we're all here with you just remember that'' Malty whispered.
''Yeah, I know, sorry I- I was expecting a lot but I wasn't expecting this much, caught me off guard is all'' Naofumi replied.
Malty then turned to all the groups she was about to tell everyone that they should head to the village but before she could say anything Motoyasu called out ''Onwards to the boss!''
''Your not showing me up!''
''A head start won't help either of you!''
The three Heroes started to push past them running in the opposite direction ''wait a minute!'' Malty called causing the three of them to stop.
''Is there a problem Princess?'' Motoyasu asked.
''Yeah there's a problem, where are you three going!?'' Malty demanded
''We're going to find the boss of course'' stated Itsuki.
''So you're just going to ignore all those monsters dropping into Lute Village!?'' Malty exclaimed.
''I mean, they don't give us an EXP so I don't see a point with bothering'' said Ren.
''That's not the point!'' Malty cried.
''Well what is the point of fighting something if it isn't going to give us EXP'' said Motoyasu running off to where he assumed the boss was, with the other two agreeing and following after Motoyasu.
''Wait, so your just going to leave the people of Lute and-''
''Malty leave it, if there's anything you should of learned since
it's that once those three get an idea in there head you can't sway them from it'' Naofumi said getting on Filo ''we'll defend Lute while they play hero''
''Right, go ahead we'll catch up'' Malty said, Naofumi nodded and rode ahead with Filo the girls and Fohl chased behind ''Fohl do you want to borrow one of my weapons?''
''No, before you and the Shield Hero met up with us we went in the store and bought me a proper weapon, I'll put them on when we get to the battle!'' Fohl cried ''for now let's move!''
When Malty and the others made it to Lute they saw Naofumi had gathered the people into a crowd and was stood in front of them protectively, Filo meanwhile was fighting through the crowd kicking any monster that got close to her, Malty took the axe off her back 'well if their was anytime to test how useful this thing will be in the Waves its now' she thought to herself, the others drew their weapons too, Fohl revealing his weapons which were a pair of gauntlets with razor sharp claws.
''Rishia you and Fohl help Filo, Eclair you're with me we're going to help Naofumi'' Malty ordered, with that they split into two groups with Malty and Eclair headed towards Naofumi's group.
Eclair was as proficient with a sword as ever while Malty was chopping through the zombies with her new axe, a larger armoured zombie then lumbered over to try and strike at Malty with its blade, Malty jumped up to avoid the attack before spinning around and slamming the axe into the side of the monsters head and cutting right through it, when she landed she saw one of the larger zombies about to attack Rishia from behind, so Malty threw the axe with all her strength the axe spun through the air and slammed into the zombies head killing it.
Malty then drew her sword before holding out her hands and casting fire magic as the wasps started to dart at them, as they reached Naofumi they saw Rishia, Fohl and Filo making their way to them, with Fohl and Filo fighting with all their strength while Rishia blasted through the monsters with her magic eventually making their way to the rest of the party.
''What are we going to do?'' Rishia asked.
''We're going to cut a path open for the people!'' Naofumi ordered ''all of you take point, I'll support and defend you the best I can''
''Actually I think we can open a path up pretty easily can't we Rishia'' Malty smirked.
''Right'' Rishia grinned, the two then held up their hands ''by source of our power we order thee…''
''…Decipher the laws of nature and bring forth a raging tornado of flames!'' Malty chanted.
''Fire tornado!''
Fire burst from Malty's hand and wind burst from Rishia's which mixed to make a flaming spiralling wind, the flaming tornado blasting through the zombies and wasps ''go, go, go we'll hold them off!'' Naofumi called out, the people quickly did as he ordered and ran through the opening while his party fought the Wave monsters off to make sure none of them could close in, Naofumi leapt on Filo and rode forwards he then summoned an Airstrike Shield and launched it at the monsters smashing through them, before jumping off Filo to smash his shield into the face of one of the large zombies causing it to collapse dead.
While Naofumi was smashing through the enemies on ground Malty sheathed her sword so she could start dealing with the flying enemies ''Rishia help me shoot the the Wasps down!'' Malty ordered.
''On it'' said Rishia.
While they blasted the interdimensional wasps with fire magic Eclair and Fohl went to protect them slashing through the ground forces with their sword and claws 'alright we're doing well, but wait I feel like we're forgetting something' Malty thought to herself.
''All of you get together!'' Naofumi called charging towards them with Filo, he reached them quickly and put up a Shield Prison, they could hear whistling sounds outside ''sorry I saw something explode in the sky and flames raining down, I was worried it could hurt of kill you''
'oh right, I forgot about the knights' Malty thought to herself, when the Shield Prison came down they saw the knights walking towards them.
''Ah, Princess Malty-''
''Shut it captain, where have you been and what were you thinking!?'' Malty demanded.
''I'm not sure what you mean?'' The captain replied.
''We knew where the next Wave was likely to hit, so why weren't you or any of your men here to protect and evacuate the people!?'' Malty demanded ''and why did you fire that spell!?''
''We did it to burn the monsters all to death'' replied the captain.
''And what if it burned our people to death, we did evacuate the people but what if we didn't, what if you cause civilian casualties what then!?'' Malty questioned.
''Malty! I'm sorry I agree with everything you're saying, but now is really not the time'' said Naofumi ''so lets just drop it and continue fighting the Wave''
''That's right, now then-''
''And we can continue by dealing with them'' said Naofumi pointing at the knights, the knights turned and jumped as they saw more of the Waves monsters had come up behind them Naofumi quickly rushed forwards to block a large zombies attack from hitting the knight captain ''as you can see we've still got people to protect so lets do it''
''Eclair!'' Malty cried.
''I'm on it!'' Eclair called, darting forwards and slashing into the zombies head killing it.
As the battle continued the Shield party could hear the knight captain calling out ''leave this to the Shield, we're headed to where the Three Heroes are!'', but despite the captains orders some of the knights stayed behind to assist the Shield Hero party and after an hour of fighting the Wave finally came to an end, with the Waves finished the party sat down against a building to catch their breath, with Filo setting down next to them and laying her neck down across all their laps.
''So that's what a Wave's like'' Naofumi mused.
''Yeah, but it's over now'' Malty sighed.
''Shield Hero'' someone called, causing Naofumi and Malty to turn it was the knight captain ''the other three heroes are waiting by the corpse of the Waves boss, I suggest you don't keep them waiting''
The Three Heroes were standing over the corpse of the Waves Boss with satisfied grins ''I've gotta say I was expecting more but that was pretty easy'' said Motoyasu.
''I know I wouldn't have thought that was a boss if it wasn't for a Wave stoping'' said Ren.
''Well I guess its to be expecting, we're probably over level if we keep this up all the bosses will go down this easy'' said Itsuki, as he said this his and Rens Filolial came up to them and began nuzzling up to them, Itsuki started to pet his
''yes were quiet a help in the battle as well Melody''
''You too Cloud'' Ren said petting his Filolial.
''Why did you guys keep those birds?'' Motoyasu asked ''I mean if I knew it was a royal chick magnet I would have kept mine, but why did you keep yours?''
''Well it was basically a free ally who's growth I could dictate and if things went badly I would just sell it and I'd probably make more money than you did when you sold yours as an egg'' explained Itsuki.
''Same'' nodded Ren.
''Hmm, I see, well then enough about that time to decide on the spoils'' said Motoyasu.
''Shouldn't we wait for Naofumi though?'' Ren asked.
''Why should we, we did the work so we should be the first ones to decide the rewards'' said Motoyasu.
''He has a point'' mused Itsuki.
''Course I do, now come on boys who wants what, I'm not exactly particular so you too can go first''' said Motoyasu.
''Hmm, well I'd like the dragon head, what about you?'' Ren asked.
''I think I'd like the lion head, you ok with that Motoyasu?'' Itsuki asked.
''Yeah, I'm cool with taking the goat head the horns should give my spear a good point'' said Motoyasu.
''What about the snake head?'' Ren asked.
''We'll give that one to Naofumi, we'll take the good ones and he can get the scraps'' said Motoyasu.
''Oh and speak of the devil'' said Itsuki, as Naofumi and Malty approached sat on Filo ''we were waiting for you''
''I could tell'' said Naofumi getting off Filo and helping Malty get off her.
''We've decided who gets what'' said Motoyasu going up to Naofumi and sneering, it seemed that after the false trial he wanted to be as antagonistic to Naofumi as he could, ''we've devided the spoils, I'll take the goat head, Itsuki wants the lion head and Rens taking the dragon head, your gonna get the snake head, basically you can have the scraps while we take the good stuff''
''You know each part of the Chimera should give us something good right?'' Naofumi asked.
''Oh, trying to make yourself feel good about getting scraps'' said Motoyasu in a patronising tone, to which Naofumi just rolled his eyes.
''Hang on a moment, I want to try something before you four put the whole head into your weapons I'd like to try something first'' said Malty.
''And what's that Princess?'' Motoyasu asked.
''Carve pieces of the heads off and feed them to the weapons'' said Malty ''I don't know if it'll work but if it does it'll give all four of you all the chimeras powers''
''Hmm, sounds like it could work, alright I say we test it out'' said Ren.
''I'd also like to see if it could work'' Itsuki said.
''Alright, fine but Naofumi's testing it and he's using the snake head to test it'' said Motoyasu.
''I'm alright with that, besides I don't think Malty's trying to play a trick or anything I mean she's been pretty helpful to all three of us just by giving us our Filolials'' said Naofumi, before hearing a puffing sound coming from Filo, it came from the other Filolials too but since it first came from Filo he instinctively turned to her, when Naofumi saw her he saw that Filo and by extension the other Filolials had evolved into some kind of large fluffy owl bird, the Four Heroes gaped at what had happened to the three birds but Malty was exited by it.
''Oh wow, oh wow, oh wow!'' Malty cheered bouncing on her feet ''they've evolved, they've evolved and become Filolial Royalty!''
''Filolial Royalty?'' Naofumi questioned
''Not important right now I'll explain later, for now lets see if the experiment works'' said Malty taking a knife out she carved the snake into four parts and handed one to Naofumi, Naofumi absorbed the piece into his Shield, the plan worked and Naofumi acquired the Chimera Viper Shield, the other Three Heroes then gave it a try and ended up with the same results as such it seemed obvious what to do.
''Alright then, I guess we'll cut them into four parts and each take one'' said Motoyasu.
''Heroes'' a voice called, they all turned to see the knight captain approaching them ''I was just sent a message by his majesty, he's throwing a banquet tonight to celebrate how you stopped the Second Wave and all of you have been invited''
Ok before we start this notes section, I'm going to be putting a MHA story… challenge I guess you could call it, so check that out if you're interested.
Anyways that was the chapter and I hope you liked it, I decided just to do one of the team fighting the Wave and protecting the people and yeah all the Filolials have now evolved into Filolial Queen's and they'll reveal they're nature soon, thank you to everyone for telling me how Fohl usually fights and for giving me some ideas for names even though I didn't request it, not trying to sound ungrateful or anything I legitimately am, just letting you all know Rens is a reference to Final Fantasy you probably guessed already I just wanted to make it clear, I'd also like to thank someone for an idea of what to do with Grettle, I was initially planning something different but I like the idea they gave, I'm not sure if I'll do that or their idea they probably know who they are so thank you, I'll send you a PM probably to assure its you.
Next chapter will be focused on the after wave party.
