"Well, this will be interesting," Paul paused in the door way only for a minute before pulling out his knife and began to cut the ropes.

"Thank goodness you've come, Paul," Della sighed in relief.

"Don't pull the ropes!" Perry warned, suddenly noticing the rope around Della's throat getting pulled tighter.

"We're you practicing for your knot tying badge, Perry? You made a dandy of one!"

Perry made a face and did not answer the sarcastic detective. They were finally freed and gratefully stretched. Paul found them water and two glasses.

"Don't drink too much too fast or you will get sick!" he warned them, "And when you're done, I'd like to know what happened."

Once they had finished, Perry told Paul the story while Della gathered up their things and got ready to leave. Paul led the way down to the car he had rented. Perry's convertible was nowhere to be found.

"They probably stole it," Perry said, "I wouldn't put it past them."

Paul helped load the luggage into the trunk, then slid behind the wheel. They were a mile or two down the road before Della finally asked,

"Paul, how did you find us?"

Paul glanced at Perry before answering.

"Long ago Perry and I made an agreement. Before either of us go on a trip, we tell the other exactly where we are going and exactly when to expect us back. If we are not back by a certain time, they come looking for us. It is a security measure, since I am a detective and Perry is a lawyer. You were due back last night and never showed. Ask Gertie, but I must have called your house and office a hundred times each trying to see if you came back and forgot to call!"

"Thank goodness you found us!" was all Della could say.

Paul, being the very concerned friend, took them to the hospital immediately after they landed in Los Angeles. When they were discharged with a clean bill of health, Paul was waiting out front to take them home.

"You'll never believe it, but all of your kidnappers are now in jail," he grinned.

Perry and Della both cried out in surprise, "What?!"

"I pulled a few strings and found them," Paul puffed up his chest proudly, "And I found your car, Perry."

"Good work, Paul!" Perry clapped Paul's shoulder.

Perry and Della identified all of the kidnappers to the police, including the one sheriff. The kidnappers were all convicted and sent to prison.

A few days later, Perry and Della went on a proper honeymoon to Paris - but Perry made sure he told Paul exactly where they were going.

The end.
