Spoiler warning: this chapter contains spoilers from A new Boy in Berk: Riders of Berk chapter 1
Dragon problems
It's been a while since us the dragons have moved to Berk and I couldn't be happier with my new life here, however, there was one thing that was bothering me
For some reason Blake has been having headaches recently, right now I'm waiting for him outside of Gothi's house, maybe she can tell why Blake has been having these headaches
Suddenly I heard a door open, I looked at the door of Gothi's house and saw how Blake came out
"Blake, was Gothi able to help you?" I asked but Blake got on my back "Let's go back, Thunder. My head really hurts" he said
"Very well" I said as I started to fly
It didn't take us long to return to the forge, once I landed, Blake got off my back and went straight to his room
I followed him to make sure that everything was fine but I found him groaning in pain and with his hands on his head
"Blake?" I said as I nudged him
"It's okay, Thunder. It was just another headache" Blake explained as he sat on his bed
Then I left Blake's room to let him rest but once I was outside, I looked up and saw a herd of dragons flying doing their… needs
That's something that really annoys the Vikings but other things that we do annoys them, for example when we're trying to get food, they try to stop us saying that is their food
We live here too and we need food too, why is it so hard to understand?
I wouldn't be surprised if Stoick as chief of this island tries to solve everything
Yeah, I'm not surprised for this, it's night already and Stoick, Gobber, Hiccup, Blake, Toothless and me are on Hiccup's house
Apparently, a Viking named Mildew has been complaining a lot about us with the excuse that we're really problematic, so right now Stoick, Gobber, Hiccup and Blake are discussing on what to do
"We can't just let the dragons run around like they own place" Stoick said We...we could put signs!"
"Signs? For dragons?" Gobber asked not convinced with the idea and that would make two of us
"No! for the people" Stoick corrected Gobber
"Signs, for Vikings we're not good readers, Stoick" Gobber explained
"What are the signs going to say anyway? 'please don't get in the dragons' way' or something like that?" Blake asked almost making me laugh
"Then we'll build a huge net around the plaza" Stoick said, he's probably getting out of ideas
"Nets? You know they breath fire, right?" Gobber asked
"I know they breath fire, Gobber. Maybe Mildew was right" Stoick said knocking a chair off
"Wait!" Hiccup and Blake said at the same time
"Dad, what if Blake and I deal with the dragons?" Hiccup said suggested putting the chair back on its place
"You?" Stoick asked
"Who else?" Hiccup asked
"You could have more faith in your son than that" Toothless said as he approached Hiccup
"I'm with Hiccup, we were able to take care of a Night Fury and a Skrill" Blake said
"If they were able to deal with us, they can deal with anything" I said as I approached Blake
"If anyone can get the dragons under control we can, we're the perfect men for the job" Hiccup said scratching Toothless
"You two are not man's yet" Stoick said
"Not if you don't give us the chance to be" Hiccup and Blake said, can they read each other's mind or something?
"Fair enough, you'll have your chance tomorrow" Stoick said
"That's what I like to hear" I said but then Blake put a hand on his forehead in pain getting everyone's attention
"Blake, are you okay?" Hiccup asked
"Yes, I'm okay, it's just another one of my headaches" Blake said still in pain, I can't understand why he always says it like it was nothing
"What do you mean with another one of your headaches?" Gobber asked
"Thunder, what's wrong with your rider?" Toothless asked
"Trust me, I'd like to know that too" I admitted
"Well, recently I've been having these random headaches" Blake explained as he recovered "I went with Gothi this morning and she said that they might be appearing because my memory will start to come back"
So that's what has been happening "That's the reason I didn't reunite with you and the others this morning" Blake said looking at Hiccup, oh that's right, I forgot that we were supposed to reunite with him and the others
"So, you'll have your memories back? That's good news" Hiccup said
"Well... to be honest I'm not sure if I want my memories back" Blake said looking away
"What do you mean? Don't you want to know your past?" Stoick asked
"Yeah, why you wouldn't want to know your past?" I asked
"It's just that one night I got a bad dream, I was fighting against an adult man and I won but... when he was on the ground, I lifted my sword ready to chop his head off" Blake explained sadly and… that's a tear coming out of his eye?
Wait a second, that day… when he woke up scared, he must have had that nightmare "But before I could do it, I woke up" Blake continued
"But what does that have to do with your memories?" Hiccup asked
"The fact that it felt so real so I'm not sure if it was a nightmare or a memory" Blake explained looking like he was about to cry
"Don't worry, Blake. I'm sure it was a nightmare" Hiccup said placing a hand on Blake's shoulder
"Thanks, Hiccup" Blake said
"I'm also sure that it was just a nightmare" I said placing my head on his hand trying to comfort him "You too, Thunder"
After that, Blake, Gobber and I returned to the forge to sleep
"Ah!" I heard someone scream
"Huh, what's going on?!" I asked waking up, then I looked at Blake and realized than he woke and looked scared, did he have that nightmare again?
Blake also looked lost on his thoughts so I nudged him to snap him out it, before I could say anything, he hugged me but then I heard something else… sobs
Is… is Blake crying?! What should I do now? Bake really needs comfort right now and I'm the only one who can give him that, then an idea appeared on my mind
"It's okay, Blake. It's okay, it was just a dream, just a dream" I purred softly
Luckily, my purrs were working, Blake slowly calmed down and stopped crying until he fell asleep, I was able to lay him down back on his bed and cover him with his blanket
I really hope that he sleeps well for the rest of the night
The next morning, I woke up only to find out than Blake was still asleep, I decided to not bother him, after what happened last night, he really needs some rest
Some minutes passed and Blake woke up "Hey Thunder" he said as he got up
When we come out of Blake's room Gobber saw us
"Good morning, Blake. How did you sleep?" Gobber asked
"I didn't sleep well, I had that nightmare again" Blake explained sadly
"The one about you almost killing someone?" Gobber asked
"Yes, but it's okay, Thunder helped me to sleep again" Blake said petting my head
Hours later Blake and I reunited with Hiccup and Toothless at the plaza
"Okay gang, there's going to be a few changes around here" Hiccup said
"Some really necessary changes" Blake added
"Get out!" we heard someone said, it was a woman trying to keep her bread away from a Nadder "For the las time get your nose out of my bread!"
"But it looks so tasty" the Nadder said
While Hiccup ran to help the woman, Blake was trying to calm down a hyperactive Gronckle but he ran off
Then we heard a roar, it was made by a Monstrous Nightmare that was fighting with a Nadder making some sheep ran away but one of them was on fire
"Toothless! Thunder! Stop that fight" Hiccup ordered
"We'll take care of the sheep" Blake said
Me and Toothless looked at each other for a moment before running to stop the fight
"Both of you, that's enough!" Toothless roared
"He/she started" the Monstrous Nightmare and the Nadder said
Before we could do anything else we looked up and saw the same herd of dragons of yesterday
"I think we should get out of here" Toothless said
"Yeah, we should" I said before running off with Toothless while the Monstrous Nightmare and the Nadder flew away
"Okay, maybe we are a little problematic" I muttered
Later that night we were all in Hiccup's room, he and Blake we're recovering for what happened earlier
Blake was hit by a wheelbarrow and Hiccup… let's just day that he really needed a bath
"Everything hurts even this" Hiccup said picking up his metal leg
"Yeah, tell me about it" Blake said rubbing the back of this head
"Hiccup" a female voice said
"Astrid?" Hiccup said before getting up "I don't look to beat up do I?"
"Uh… just a little" Toothless said as he, Blake and me made faces at Hiccup "Oh, great dragon pity" he said before Astrid came upstairs
"So, how was your day?" she asked
"Oh, uneventful, hung around the plaza you know" Hiccup said
"Hiccup is not a good liar, right?" I asked
"No, he isn't" Toothless said
"Yeah, I do, we saw you two out there, it's hard to believe you're still standing" Astrid said before Hiccup collapsed on his bed
"I'm going to be seeing sheep in fire for the next month" he said
"Hiccup!" a male voice said followed by heavy footsteps
"What's going on out there? The plaza looks like a war zone!" Stoick said as he got upstairs
"I know this looks bad, but this is only phase one of my master plan" Hiccup said
"Oh, so you have a plan?" Stoick asked, I'm pretty sure that he wasn't convinced at all
"Of course, I do it's very...complex with lots of drawings yeah is pretty wild" Hiccup said
"Yeah, he's not a good liar" I muttered
"This had better be real, because Mildew has stirred the whole island, if you don't get these dragons under control, they'll be calling for their heads" Stoick said walking away
"They won't get our heads, right?" Toothless asked
"Don't worry bud, your head is not going anywhere" Hiccup said
"You too Thunder, your head will stay in its place" Blake said
"You're right, it will stay in its place because they won't be able to get me" I said smugly
"You do realize there are like a bazillion dragons out there and only two of you?" Astrid said
"I guess you're right" Blake sighed
"I hope you do have a plan" Astrid said
Later that night Blake and I returned to the forge but I woke up when I heard sobs, it was Blake, he was crying… again
"Seriously, he had that nightmare two nights in a row?" I grunted but Blake heard me
"Oh, sorry for waking you up… again" Blake apologized as he cleared some of his tears "Let's just go back to sleep"
Blake lied back down on his bed and fell asleep but I remained awake a few more minutes before curling up to sleep
"I wish I could help you somehow" I muttered before falling asleep
The next morning Blake and I went to the arena where we reunited with the other riders and the dragons but for some reason all of them but me and Toothless looked nervous
"Why back here? Why back here?" Hookfang said nervously
At that point, Hiccup told what was his plan and it consists in training us
That's your plan? Train dragons?" Ruffnut said
"Here where we used to kill them?" Tuffnut said, so that's why the other dragons looked nervous
"Actually, the dragons seem a little nervous" Astrid said petting Stormfly
"That's because they're very sensitive, specially Meatlug she lost a cousin here" Fishlegs said, whoa if that happened to me, I would definitely be nervous in here too
"It's amazing that your dad gave you the arena" Astrid said approaching Hiccup and Blake
"Yeah, it totally would be...if he did but he didn't" Hiccup said
"For how long Hiccup was thinking in this plan?" I asked
"Since you and Blake left last night" Toothless said
Wait, so we're going behind your father's back?" Astrid asked
"We are running quickly out of options, Astrid" Blake said
"Alright everybody, here's the thing" Hiccup said to get everyone's attention "The dragons are out of control, we want them to live in our world without destroying it"
"And they have been blowing things up and we have to do something about it" Blake said, I'll give him that, some of us have been destroying things
"Got it, help dragons blow things up we can totally so that" Tuffnut said
"Tuff, that's not what I-" Blake said before getting interrupted by Ruffnut
"Here's how we're going to do it, first we make them really, really angry" she said, that shouldn't be hard for those two, they can be really annoying sometimes, I wonder how can Barf and Belch can be with them
Guys this is serious, Mildew wants our dragons caged I don't know about you but that's not okay with me" Hiccup said
"That's not okay with me either, I don't want to be in a cage" Toothless said
"You're right, she's sorry" Tuffnut said pointing at Ruffnut
"Okay next problem, dragons are eating everything at sight" Hiccup said while he and Blake take a bread from a basket that Hiccup brought
It looked really tasty…
Then Hiccup started to explain something but I was more focused on the bread so I didn't pay attention
Blake offered me the bread and without hesitation I took it but before I could even chew it, he started to scratch me under my chin
It felt so good than I even dropped the bread when I started to purr in pure bliss and pleasure, I don't know how he's able do it but he always knows where to scratch
It took me a few minutes to woke up from my… trance I guess I could call it but then I realized that Stormfly and Hookfang were leaving so me and Toothless deiced to follow them
We arrived at the storage room where some dragons started to fight for the fish but they went too far and created an explosion destroying the storage room
I was about to fly away to get someone but I saw that a basket full of fish… I'm sure that no one will mind if I eat some
I started to happily eat the fish but then I heard Stoick say something "The dragons caused enough damage, by tonight I want every one of them caged, understand?"
"What?!" I said taking my head out of the basket
"You can't just cage these dragons you have to send them away now!" Mildew said
"You are right Mildew, we'll cage them tonight and in the morning Hiccup and Blake will sent them off the island" Stoick said sadly before walking away
ARE THEY GOING TO TAKE US OFF THE ISLAND?!
That night me and Toothless were at the Great Hall with the riders and we were all upset
"I can't believe that they're going to send us away" I said sadly
"I can't believe it either, I already got use to live here" Toothless said "What am I going to do without Hiccup, I can't fly without him!"
"And I don't what is Stoick planning, just drop us on a random island?!" I said
Then the riders left except for Hiccup and Blake
"We got to do something" Blake said
"You're right, we can't let that happened, Toothless is one of the best friends I've ever had" Hiccup said
"You're also one of the best friends I've ever had" Toothless said
"I can't imagine a Berk with no dragons" Blake said but before I could say anything Mildew approached
"Toothless, Thunder, I'll miss you so much" Mildew said
"Well, I won't miss you" I muttered angrily
"You know what your mistake was? Thinking that dragons could be trained, a dragon is going to do what a dragon is going to do! It's their nature and nature always win" Mildew said before walking away
Then the fire of the center blew out "I'll take care of it" Toothless said before shotting a plasma blast creating a new fire
"Oh, thank you Toothless" a woman said
"No problem" Toothless said
"Mildew might be right" Hiccup said leaving us confused
Why would you-" Blake said but he stopped when he seemed to understand Hiccup's idea leaving me and Toothless even more confused
"Oh, now I get it" Blake continued
"Okay, what did we lost?" I said
Then we all went to the academy and arrived just in time before the riders lock up the dragons at the arena
"Don't close it!" Hiccup and Blake said
What happened? Did you manage to change your fathers mind or...Are going behind his back again?" Astrid asked
"The second option actually, but we got a plan" Blake said
"Look, the dragons are going to do what they're going to do, it's their nature we just need to learn how to use it" Hiccup said
Using our nature? That doesn't sound like a bad idea
The next afternoon we started with Hiccup's and Blake's plan
Right now, me along with Stormfly, Meatlug and our riders are flying above Mildew's house followed by a herd of dragons
"Afternoon Mildew" Astrid greeted before Stomfly dropped herself on the field and created marks with her tail
"Get ready for the fertilizer" Blake said, what kind of fertilizer?
"Okay, Meatlug let a rip" Fishlegs said
"With pleasure" Meatlug said before she and the herd that was following us started to do their needs all over Mildew's field
"You better be grateful Mildew we save you from some work" Blake said as we flew away
Then we helped to return some hogs that ran away back to their barn, the twins along with Barb and Belch lured the hogs out of the forest and once they were out Toothless and I shot them to return them to the barn
Once that was done, we returned to the village
"That was awesome!" Fishlegs cheered
"How do you know that was going to work?" Astrid asked
"Because is the dragons' nature" Blake said
"We just need to learn to work with them and not against them" Hiccup said
I have to admit that using our nature to help was pretty intelligent
"There they are, Stoick" a male voice said
We all look where the voice came and saw how Mildew and Stoick approached
"Those dragons don't look like they're in cages to me" Mildew said
"No, this is not what I asked for" Stoick said
Yeah, we're definitely in trouble
Moments later Stoick locked us up in the cages at the arena while he spoke to the riders, I couldn't hear what was happening outside
Suddenly the cages opened allowing us to reunite with our riders who hugged us, it took me a while to know the whole story but apparently thanks to Hiccup's and Blake's plan, the arena was not becoming an academy so we can train with our riders
It looks like things around here are still changing for good
Later that night Blake was scratching me behind my crown of spines making me purr, that's one of the spots where the itch builds up and I can hardly reach
"Yeah, you always know where to scratch" I purred
Suddenly Blake scratched me bellow my chin and I don't know what happened next but I felt how my muscles relaxed and I fell to the floor in the process before falling asleep
I don't know how much time passed when I woke with a delicious smell… mutton!
"I knew than that was going to wake you up" Blake said placing a basket full of mutton in front of me
Before Blake could say anything else I started to eat all of the mutton without even bothering to chew it much
"Whoa, Thunder. At least chew it" Blake said stunned
I ate all the mutton in just a couple of seconds, it was delicious
After that Blake left to return the basket to wherever he took it and returned a few minutes later ready to sleep "Good night, Thunder" he said before laying on his bed and cover himself with a blanket
It took him a few minutes to be completely asleep facing at the wall, his bed is in the corner of the room, that's why I have space here
The only thing that I hope for tonight is that Blake doesn't have that nightmare again, last night he didn't have it, at least that's what I think because I didn't wake up, maybe there's a way for me to help him, at least for tonight
I placed my head on a free space next to his head and covered him with my wing, that way if he has that nightmare, it'll be easier for me notice it and help him to calm down or wake him up if that doesn't work
"Don't worry, Blake. I'll always protect you" I purred "That's a promise"
