Nancy had them for basically all her life.
When she was two, she wandered away from her family when visiting the mall. 20 minutes later, her family found her in the middle of a toy store.
But she was different.
Brenner had created a way to empower children through one shot.
They were going to find a child to be a guinea pig.
They only had one prototype.
It turns out some of Brenner's men were stupid.
Two men had been assigned to go into the mall, find a child, stick them with the chemical, get their name and info, and get out.
Simple.
Except for a certain Nancy Wheeler.
You see, she was a curious girl.
So curious, that she plucked the syringe out of the men's pocket, accidentally injecting the serum into her.
The men didn't realize this until they reached in to inject another terrified kid, and it was gone.
And to make things even worse, the mall was popular, so anybody from anywhere could have taken it.
And to add to the mess, the security cameras were down, so they couldn't see who it was.
You might be asking; didn't they catalog the equation for the serum?
They did, it got destroyed in a fire.
Nobody could remember it.
So funny how things play out, huh?
Nancy had learned to suppress her powers when she accidently made Lenny Jenkins fly off the monkey bars in kindergarten and realized how scary her powers were.
She'd been doing pretty well.
Until sophomore year.
That's when Will Byers went missing.
When they were introduced into the world of another dimension, and a girl with powers.
Though Nancy had already been introduced to the latter.
Her powers slipped up when she got pulled into the Upside Down.
When she heard the growl, she turned, seeing a fuzzy figure.
Nancy struck her hand out and screamed.
The figure then was flung back.
She went back to where she entered.
Figuring that she had nothing to lose at this point, she opened it with a shout.
There was no blood coming from her nose.
She was too powerful.
Johnathan had many questions that she was afraid to answer.
So she didn't.
Suppressing her power, she moved on for another year.
The next November rolled around, and soon she found herself in a secluded cabin, trying to get the Mind Flayer out of Will.
She could feel him.
He was about to take complete control.
Will started to choke Joyce.
Nancy knew she had to stop him.
But she would be exposing her powers.
So, she grabbed a hot metal poker, and stabbed Will, acting like that was what got the Mind Flayer to stop.
Instead, it was her powers.
Soon Will let out one last blood curdling scream, and the Mind Flayer was out, shooting out of the door.
Nancy followed, making sure her work was done.
It was becoming harder and harder to suppress her powers, with this Upside-Down crap happening.
It happened that summer, with the Mind Flayer taking true form.
It oozed into the room that Nancy was hiding in.
It built up into a towering monster.
With shriek, Nancy struck it back into the wall.
But with all the all that power stored up, Nancy wasn't used to it, and it flung her back as well.
She hit her head, causing her to become dizzy and disoriented.
Luckily, El saved her.
Nancy could have saved Billy and Hopper, but she was too scared.
And then, spring break of 1986 happened.
Vecna was coming after Max, Eddie was blamed for being a murderer, and El was across the country.
Nancy knew she'd have to fight this one.
When she started to climb the rope into Eddie's trailer and Vecna captured her, she could feel it.
She could stop it.
But she knew he had something to say.
When he did, she escaped.
When they climbed into the Creel House and the vines wrapped around their throats, she stopped them.
When the gas from the bottles spilled, and they didn't have enough to weaken Vecna, she did.
She pushed him through the window with a scream, ignoring the looks from Steve and Robin.
When El got home they had a little talk.
"So," El said sitting on the front steps of the cabin. "You're like me."
"Yep," Nancy replied, not looking at her. "I'm like you."
"Cool." El simply said.
Nancy smiled.
"Cool."
