Chapter Twelve

Evening

The Craftsman

Charlie smiled after getting off the phone with the airport, as he knew the possibility of Maragret meeting with Don is high, since Don is a man of his word, no matter how difficult it would be for him. It was short notice but he was able to get a late night flight and it meant he and Margaret will have to leave soon.

'Amazing what good timing and a few favors can do when you are in a hurry.' He thought to himself

Alan had finally gotten home after hours of dealing the detectives, the FBI, and his lawyer and he still had more to deal with the next day, so he went to bed after a brief talk with Charlie and Margret and was grateful they were going on a small trip, as he didn't want them to also be dealing with this whole mess and they should get their minds off of everything.

"I just hope I won't have to be alone with Irene for too long." Alan whispered to his wife, as Irene had gotten home earlier, leading to a few tense moments with him and Charlie suspected he went to bed early before any argument could happen with Irene.

Margaret had a brief talk with Irene, telling her aunt to leave Alan alone and to visit a friend of hers tomorrow, as the neighbor is generally lonely and could use the company, to which Irene reluctantly agreed and asked which house to go to.

"Don't worry, dear, I will behave myself." Irene promised, which Margaret hoped was true, she doesn't want her aunt to add any more problems.

They were lucky that traffic was light before getting to the airport, though they had to wait two hours before the flight took off.

Charlie was feeling both hopeful and nervous, as he knew Don would at least try to talk to their Mom but with their Dad, that was a whole different story, time doesn't always heal old wounds.

Next Day

Phoenix

FBI Offices

Don walked into the building, something he hadn't done in years and it still felt somewhat natural, though he has no desire to make it a regular thing. Though it is nice to see some old faces, though there was little time to reminisce about the old days when on the case, though he could try at some point.

'I just hope things run smoothly when I am here.' Don thought to himself

He smiled when he entered the Director's office and saw a familiar face, one he never expected to see in a desk job.

Billy smiled when he saw his old partner coming in and had a similar thought.

"How are you doing man?" He said, smiling as he and Don hugged

"Better, now that I know that you are in charge." Don said, returning a relieved smile, as it was nice to have a familiar face.

"Great, we can get started on the case and try to clear any problems in the case." Billy said, knowing his old friend's connection to the case.

"Thanks, I hope so too." Don said, as he also thought about when he might soon meet with Charlie and their Mother.

He just had to figure out the time and place.
