Chapter 50 News to ruin a honeymoon
Paris arranged for Rory to see a specialist while they were on O'hua. Because of the ectopic pregnancy she wanted Rory to see a doctor. Paris went to school with a doctor that practices on the island.
Wednesday morning Logan and Rory left for the doctor's office after having breakfast in bed. It didn't take them long to find the office. They went sightseeing yesterday and learned how to use the navigational system in the rental car.
Rory entered the office and went straight to the receptionist. "Rory Huntzburger to see Dr. Wimbush." Rory told the female behind the desk.
"Mrs. Huntzburger, have a seat. The doctor will be with you shortly. If you could, would you fill out these papers for me?" The receptionist asked. Rory took the clipboard and had a seat next to Logan. Before she could get started on the paperwork she was called to the back. The nurse weighed her then took her into an examination room, had her have a seat and drew a couple of vials of blood. When she finished, she gave Rory a cup for a urine specimen and showed her the bathroom. Logan was sitting on the stool in the exam room filling out the paperwork.
Rory re-entered the exam room with the doctor right behind her. "Mr. and Mrs. Huntzburger, I'm Dr. Kela Wimbush. You can call me Kela," the doctor told them.
"Hello Kela, this is my husband Logan, and I am Rory, please call us Logan and Rory." Rory said as she shook Kela's hand.
"Paris called. Gave me a little history on what is going on. I know that is a one time visit, but I would like to ask a few questions while we wait for the test results." Kela explained.
Rory nodded her head as Logan finished the paperwork and put the clipboard on the counter. "For what Paris said, this is not your first pregnancy." Kela asked.
"That is correct. I had a miscarriage right after I graduated college, and I have twin boys, 4 years old." Rory told Kela while she glanced at Logan. "I'm sure Paris told you about the ectopic pregnancy at the end of last year." Rory was trying to keep talking. She could feel Logan staring at her. She found out she was pregnant after he walked away at graduation. She was on the campaign trail. She saw a doctor while on the trail. The doctor told her she was 6 weeks pregnany. She lost it the next day. No one knows about this other than Paris and her OB/GYN.
There was a knock on the door. The nurse entered with the lab results. Kela read over the report and smiled at Logan and Rory. "Well, looks like you will be welcoming an addition to your family." Kela told them. "Rory hop up on the table and lay back. It's too early for an ultrasound, unless you want me to do an internal ultrasound." Dr. Kela said and she mashed around on Rory's stomach. Rory looked at Logan as he took her hand,
"Whatever you think is best. I just want to make sure that Ace and the baby are okay." Logan replied. Rory just nodded.
"Okay, well from what I can tell, you seem to be about 12 weeks pregnant. I'll step out and get the machine while you change into one of these gowns." Dr. Kela said as she left the room. Rory hops down and starts undressing. Still not looking at Logan.
"It was mine?" Logan asked. He was also avoiding Rory's eyes. Rory nodded.
"Can we talk about this when we get back to the hotel? I am sorry I sprung it on you like that." She told Logan. He nodded.
Logan and Rory both had tears in their eyes when they heard the baby's heartbeat. The nurse made a recording of the heartbeat and gave it to them. Dr. Kela gave Rory her personal cell number in case she needed her while they were on the Island.
When they got in the car, Rory turned to Logan to explain about the miscarriage, his phone rang. He looked at the caller ID. It was Honor. "Honor, hey, your on-speaker phone." He told her.
"Hey Rory. Logan I really hate to call you but if you could call or facetime Mother. I sent the schedule to you. Logan, I think she is losing her mind." Honor told them.
"Honor, she has been losing her mind for a while." Logan said with a sigh.
"No, Logan, she thinks she and Dad are still married. I remind her that they are divorce and she says, 'Yes, I know that'. Logan I'm worried. Facetime her and see what you think." Honor all but begged him. Logan sighed big,
"Honor I will call her at the next scheduled time." He told her. He looked at Rory.
"Thanks, call me after you talk with her. I'm sorry to bother you on your honeymoon. Have fun" She said and the phone went dead. The drive back to the Hotel was silent with the exception of the radio.
Logan and Rory decided to order room service for supper and eat on the balcony. While they waited on the food, Rory explained the miscarriage to him. Logan wasn't happy that he didn't know about this, but in Rory's defense, she found out and miscarried within 48 hours.
Mr. and Mrs. Huntzburger enjoyed their honeymoon. They explored, went sightseeing, had a luau on the beach and enjoyed the big bed and balcony at the hotel. Rory's morning sickness has not been bad. Just a few minutes in the morning before she got out of bed. She learned from being pregnant with the twins to take it slow first thing in the morning.
It was their last night in Hawaii. They are scheduled to leave around lunch. Logan was lying in bed on his laptop playing a video game while Rory was sitting up in bed reading. She was enjoying herself, but she missed the boys. She has not seen them except for facetiming since the brunch after the wedding.
Logan and Rory's phone started ringing at the same time. They both laughed as they answered. Logan got up to leave the room so he could talk, while Rory stayed in bed.
Logan came running back in the bedroom when he heard Rory yell "NO" When he got to her, she had dropped the phone and was just sitting there with tears running down her face. Logan hung up his phone.
"Ace baby, what is wrong?" When she wouldn't answer, he picked up the phone she dropped on the bed. "Hello?" Logan said. But all he heard was sobbing in the background.
"Hello?" someone answered him. "Rory?" a male voice said.
"No, this is Logan, her husband." Logan said, wondering what male was calling his wife and upset her.
"Logan, this is James, Ronnie's ex-husband. Ronnie, Billy's sister" James told Logan.
''James, can you tell me what is going on? Rory seems to be in shock. I can't help her if I don't know what is going on." Logan said. He was frantic now.
"Billy and Melissa have been in a bad wreck. Melissa is fine. She has a broken arm. Billy is not doing so well." James told him. Pausing to take a breath. "He is in the ICU at the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville. They do not think he will make it through the night."
"Okay, James we are in Hawaii on our honeymoon. Let me talk to Rory and find out what she wants to do. I will call you back and let you know the plans." Rory told James. He had the phone in one hand and was trying to comfort Rory with his arm around her.
Logan hung up the phone. He sat down next to Rory, and she fell into his arms. "What am I going to tell the boys?" She said and let out a sob. "They" sniff "are too young to understand." She started sobbing again. "They are so young; I don't know if they will remember him as they get older." She blew her nose on the tissue Logan handed her.
"If they do, I don't want it to be of him in the hospital hooked up to machines." She told Logan, sitting up on the edge of the bed.
"Okay, Ace, I'm going to call your mom. You go get a shower. I will call the pilot and we can be wheels up in an hour. You want me to tell Lorelai not to tell the boys until you get back from Jacksonville?" He asked.
"Okay that sounds okay" she said as she got up to go take a shower. Logan picked up his phone and called Lorelai.
"Hey, Lorelai," Logan said before Lorelia could say anything, thinking it was Rory calling. "Rory is in the shower"
Lorelai giggled,"Why are you not in there with her." Logan smiled. Lorelai, always the same.
"She is getting ready to leave." Logan to her. "We are flying to Jacksonville. Billy's been in an accident. He is in the ICU at the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville. They don't think he will make it."
"Oh, no" Lorelai said…. "She is not taking the boys, is she? They are too young."
"No, she does not want the boys to remember him hooked up to machines. If he gets better, we will take them down there." Logan told her. "Lorelai, she doesn't want you to tell the boys. We will facetime them when we get on the plane."
"Okay, Logan?" Lorelai said.
"Yeah?" Logan said.
"Please take care of her." Lorelai asked. Almost as if she was begging.
"I will." He told her.
Logan then called Paris. Told her what is going on and asked her if there is a mild over the counter sedative that he could give Rory. She told him that she will have Kela call him. Rory was getting out of the shower when Kela called. Kela and Logan talked for a few minutes. She told him the safest medication would be Benadryl. She told Logan what strength to get. When he got off the phone, he called the Hospitality Desk at the hotel. He asked Michael, at the desk, about the Benadryl. He advised that he bring it right up. Logan told him they would pick it up when they checked out. He also told him to send a bellhop. He explained they had an emergency back home and needed to leave immediately.
When they got on the plane, Logan facetimed the boys. Rory had washed her face and was trying to put on a smile so that the boys wouldn't know there is something wrong. After talking to the boys, Logan gave Rory the Benadryl. Rory was fast asleep before they took off. She had her head on his shoulder.
While Rory slept, Logan was thinking back to his first face to face meeting with Billy.
Billy and Rory were in the kitchen talking. He had just got home. Before he could enter the kitchen to let them know he was home. He heard Rory tell Billy "No. You have lost your chance. You couldn't keep it in your pants. For the boys, I will be nice to you. But you will be nice to me in return. Do not blame me for the mistakes you made."
Billy replied, "You think I am the only one that made mistakes in our marriage. Oh, course you do. You are Ms. Perfect Rory Gilmore Hayden. You were too good to take my name. All our problems were not because I could not keep it in my pants as you say."
"Billy," Rory sighed "I think the boys will be ready to go eat with you in a few minutes. Why don't you go help them get their shoes on.? I have talked all I am going to talk to you tonight." Rory said as she turned to walk out of the kitchen. She ran right into Logan.
"Hey, sorry, didn't mean to eavesdrop." Logan said. "Just didn't want to interrupt." She grabbed Logan and kissed him hard on the lips. Billy passed by as he headed up to the boy's room to help them get ready.
Later that weekend, Logan found Billy sitting on the patio drinking a beer. "Billy, I think we need to talk." Logan told him as he took a seat.
"Yeah, I figured you heard. Go ahead. Tell me what a dick I am. Rub it in my face that she belongs to you now." Billy said, then took the last swallow of his beer. Logan looked at him. He could see the sadness in his eyes.
"Billy, the way I see it we are all three going to have to get along. I love Rory and I am not trying to rub it in your face. I have waited twelve years to be happy. My happiness now depends on Rory and those precious boys. I love them. I do not plan on replacing you. I want you to be able to stop by anytime you are in the area. I want us to be able to attend birthday parties, Thanksgiving, Christmas and other times together. The boys are what is important now." Logan paused and took a deep breath. "Billy, you need to understand, I will not tolerate what I heard earlier" Billy just nodded his head. He knew Logan was right.
"I'm sorry. I will think more about the boys and their feelings. I will apologize to Rory." Billy told him. "Thank you, Logan."
Logan got up and shook his hand. "We are a family. We will always be in each other's lives. We will have to make an effort to get along." Logan told him.
Logan must have dozed off. The pilot was letting him know that they are approaching the airport and should be landing shortly. Logan woke Rory up. Told her they will be landing soon. As soon as they landed, they both turned their phones back on. Both had several messages. Logan had one to call James. He decided to wait until they got in the car. The driver loaded their baggage in the truck. When they pulled out of the airport Logan tells Rory he had a message to call James.
"James, this is Logan Huntzburger. You left me a message to call you." Logan said. "Is everything okay? We just landed."
"No," James said. "Billy didn't make it. He came through surgery with a 50/50 chance. The internal bleeding was too much. He lost too much blood. I'm Sorry."
Logan took a deep breath. "Okay, we are going to be staying at the Martin. I am going to get Rory to bed. It's 4 am. I will call you in the morning. I will let you know what Rory wants to do. Thanks James."
Logan hung up the phone and looked at Rory who was staring at him. "Billy didn't make it." Rory put her head on his chest and cried. Not because she was in love with Billy, but because she loved him. Without Billy, she would not have Will and Chris. She was crying
Sorry for the sad story line, but Billy had to be out of the picture so I can bring in a few new people into the story.,
