Chapter 81 Monday. Is it Friday yet?
Logan was very concerned for Rory. Throwing up, at this stage in pregnancy has to be stress-related. The situation with Shira, not to mention the situation with Melissa, could not be good for Rory or the baby. Logan called Paris. She suggested Benadryl and meal replacement shakes if it continued.
Logan let Rory sleep in Monday morning. He needed to talk with Mitchum. Just because he and Shira are divorced, doesn't mean he shouldn't weigh in on what needs to be done. Logan learned from Dillon that Shira going to jail was not an option s. Maybe moving her to the West Coast would work.
Logan was in the office downstairs. He left a message for Mitchum. He was trying to get some work done while waiting on Mitchum to call back. Ricky and Karson are moving back to their rooms, separately. Karson took the boys to school before meeting with her professor. Both young adults were informed of the seriousness of the situation and to be aware of their surroundings.
Logan heard Rory coming from downstairs. She came into the office with 2 cups of coffee. "One for me?" Logan asked.
"If you insist, I will allow you to drink my second cup of coffee." Rory was sitting in Logan's lap. This was normal for them. The knock on the door frame made Rory jump.
"Sorry," Mitchum said. "Karson left me in."
"No problems Dad," Logan said as Rory stood up.
"I'll let you have your privacy. I just need my laptop. Logan, don't forget I have a meeting with my Sally this week." She told him.
"Got it on my calendar," Logan said as Rory stopped at the door.
"Open or Closed?" She asked
"Closed please," Logan said.
Mitchem sat in one of the two chairs in front of Logan's desk. "I am retired and I believe we have had more one-on-one meetings since I retired than we have the whole time I was in charge." Mitchum told him.
"Well, dealing with your crazy ex-wife has become a second job for me," Logan said. He wasn't smiling.
"Logan, son, what has she done this time? I have an appointment with Cynthia and a decorator at the Manor in less than an hour" Mitchum told him. He wished Logan didn't have to deal with Shira, but he divorced her. He didn't want to deal at all.
''How's that going, Dad?" Logan asked.
"Jessi is settling in. She spent Sunday with Honor and her boys. She enjoys spending time with her nephews." Mitchum said smiling.
"We would like her to come to visit with us as soon as some of this drama calms down," Logan said.
"Speaking of drama, tell me what Shira has done." Mitchum told him.
Logan took a deep breath. He started from the call from Ricky Friday night and ended with Dillon stopping by the house last night. When he finished, Mitchum asked Logan, "What are you going to do? What do you want me to do. I don't think me talking to her will do any good. Short of killing her, I don't know what I can do." Mitchum told him.
"Dad, killing mom is not an opinion," Logan sighed.
"I know, just one of those fleeting thoughts." Mitchum chucked.
"I'm not sure what you can do. I just want you aware of what is going on. I would hate for her to target Cynthia or Jessi. I'm waiting on a call from Dillon. I am going to watch the interview with this Waters guy." Logan told him.
"I'm not sure what I am going to do. I just know I have to protect my family. I have a pregnant wife and two young boys to protect. I also have two young adults under my roof. I have to keep them all safe. Right now Ricky and Karson have been made aware. They are both hyper-aware of their surroundings as well as checking in with me often." Logan was pacing as he was talking.
"The twins have a bodyguard outside their school. I also have security riding through Stars Hollow. That was a nightmare. First getting Lorelai to agree, then that selectman Taylor. But I got it done….I am taking Rory to her meeting with her editor so I am going to stop by the New York office." Logan said. He stopped in front of his desk.
Mitchum looked at Logan, "How are you getting any work done? I know I told you I would help out while you are on paternity leave, but are getting anything done?" Mitchum asked.
"Dad, Frank is taking us to New York. I will make calls from the car. I will be in the office while Rory is meeting with her editor. I want this to end before the baby is born. Rory will start her book tour on the East Coast in November. With the tour and baby, I will have my hands full, not to mention the twins." Logan told him.
"Short of talking to your mother, just tell me what to do," Mitchum said as he stood up.
"Dad, you may want to talk to security. When Shira finds out you are moving back into the Manor. She is going to be livid. But she will lose her shit when she finds out Cynthia and Jessi are moving in" Logan again reminded Mitchum.
Mitchum nodded. "I was thinking maybe I needed to hire new help. I don't know who was loyal to Shira."
"Dad, I'm not going to tell you what to do, but I have been paying salaries since the divorce. If you want loyalty, you will need to keep everyone at the same rate. If you are replacing, be careful. Loyalties change. I think you need to keep Evelyn, she has been there the longest, and I know that she has always been loyal to me. If you decide to let her go, let me know first. I will hire her myself or find her a job." Logan told him. Mitchum nodded as he left.
After Rory heard the front door close, she headed to the office. Logan was on the phone with his back to the door. Rory stood in the doorway watching him. She knew she was blessed. She knew that a man like Logan did not come along very often. The baby girl must have heard her inner thoughts because she chose that time to kick.
"Ouff" the sound came out of Rory's mouth before she knew it.
Logan turned around in his chair and smiled at Rory. "Sam, I'll talk with you later" and hung up the phone. "Em just waking up?" He asked.
"No, she has been up for a while. I think she heard your voice and got excited." Logan laughed,
"Already got me wrapped." Logan said with a grin.
Rory sat down in front of the desk. They talked about the increase in security for her book tour if this problem was not solved by then. They talked about the nanny Honor recommended. "I want to start interviewing By the first of April. I may want to bring her on early. Maybe when school is out. The boy's birthday is July the 12th. Em is due July the 20th. I will need a lot of help during the summer. I am signing the boys up for several day camps this summer. I want to have a pool party for their birthday…. Oh and don't forget the 4th of July party." Rory was rambling on about the summer and their schedule.
"Just put all this on the calendar so I can help," Logan said. "Hey, I have an idea. Why don't we go to Martha's Vineyard for the 4th? We can invite Luke and Lorelai. Honor and her crew will be there. Your dad has a house close by, he, Lana, and Gigi could stay there. I will hire someone to help with the cooking and cleaning. You will be able to sit around and just enjoy the air conditioner, while the boys are entertained." Logan said.
Rory nodded, "Let me think about it. It sounds great."
"Are you going to discuss your book tour this week?" He asked.
"Yes, when I meet with Sally and her team, we are discussing the locations and the days," Rory said. "I will have a calendar when I return."
"I want you to be successful. But just in case this craziness has not been resolved, can you arrange it so that you are not gone more than 3 nights in a row. I will make the jet available. Now that I think about it, tell Sally that the Huntzburger jet and pilot will be available as well as Frank. Would you be upset if I asked that you only use Huntzburger transportation while on tour?" Logan wants her safe, but he is not sure how she will feel about Huntzburger transportation.
"What good is it to have a billionaire husband, if I don't use his resources?" Rory said with a laugh. This surprised Logan. In a good way.
Logan told Rory that he is going into the office until Dillon calls. Then he will meet him at the police station to watch the interview. Rory told him that she will be working on some edits until the boys return from school.
