Almost Everything
Chapter 10
authors note : Thank you for the support and strong investment in these two already.
Even on my worst day, did I deserve, babe
All the hell you gave me.
You wear the same jewels that I gave you.
But you would still miss me in your bones.
"We've outgrown this place. I have two babies growing inside of me."
"We need to move now. Before i get any bigger. And plus i need a nursery to decorate." Haley announced.
"You have house picked out already. You've posted pictures on the fridge. In our bedroom."
"I'll buy it for you one day." Nathan stated matter of fact.
"I can picture us having coffee on the porch or iced tea in the summer."
"The backyard is endless and fenced. That pool. The view."
"The second floor is full of bedrooms for our kids."
"It has the chef's kitchen and that living room."
"I can picture you teaching our kids basketball on that long driveway."
"Family breakfasts. Dinners. Holidays."
"It's all right there Nate." Haley explained.
Nathan swallowed hard as the memory vanished. Making his chest heavy.
Nathan decided he had to try and get through to her.
Even if he failed.
...
Haley had taken deep breaths. Needing to compose herself.
Her body was exhausted from tonight.
She cried on the way home. In the shower. As she changed into her PJs.
Haley sat in the living room. Clutching her glass of wine she had just refilled.
She couldn't enjoy it. She simply kept replaying her last encounter with Nathan.
Her thoughts were drowned out with a soft knocking at her front door.
Haley got up from where she was seated and opened it.
Knowing it was Nathan.
"I don't get it. Why come to my housewarming.?"
"How we left things. I thought. We would be able to pick up where we left off. What happened.?" Nathan asked.
"I decided it wasn't worth stress and the heart ache."
"When it comes down to 're a Scott. Destined for a trophy wife and a life i will never fit into."
"What Deb and Dan think and feel matter to you."
"I will never be what they want for you."
"I came tonight because i want us to be friends." Haley explained.
"Friends." Nathan said softly.
"I don't care about my parents. The Scott Dynasty expectation."
"I want. And need you."
"Haley. I'm in love you. I was in love with you."
"When you left town all those years ago. When you came back and we reunited in that hotel room."
"I had been existing. Going through the motions."
"I came back here to settle down. To build a life together."
"I've been living with this regret and heartbreak for 3 years." Nathan proclaimed. The emotion in his voice thick.
"I don't love you anymore. Nathan go. Please." Haley insisted.
Nathan felt at a loss for words. The color. Hope. Possibility draining from his world.
As he left the home.
Haley had done it. She had broken his heart. And her own.
"I'm sorry Nathan." Haley said the necklace he had left behind with his wedding ring.
Still around her neck.
