When the seven of them all met up again, Tommy almost found himself appreciating that all of his fellow Animorphs seemed to be just as unsettled as he was. He knew it wasn't the most charitable of thoughts – it wasn't charitable at all, really – so Tommy tried not to focus on it. It wasn't that hard, since he didn't like the thoughts that were going through his mind.

"I thought we'd all morph owls," Jake said, as all of them huddled in the lengthening shadows of a tall tree. "They're fast, and they fly well at night. At least until we get close."

(Wish I could go with you guys, but I'm not much use at night,) Tobias said, seeming wistful.

"You found us a way into this place, and you got us the termite to morph," Jake reminded him.

Tommy bit the inside of his cheek, not sure if he should say something, or even if he wanted to.

"And we're all just so amazingly grateful to you," Marco, of course, had no such reservations.
