Chapter 8
The voyage home had been going terribly while the weather had stayed good. managing the crews of all three ships had been a hellish task. By day two Harry had appointed captains to each ship with Mr.Gibbs in overall command under him.
While there were still issues Gibbs usually handled the problems before it made its way to him. But Gibbs had evidently failed to control the latest issue as he was awoken by yelled arguments between what seemed like the entire crew of his ship.
Harry got up and quickly dressed before thundering onto the deck. They were So Engrossed in their argument the crew didn't even notice his arrival. So Harry used one of Dumbledore's favorites, making loud cannon blasts ring through the air. This caused the crew to settle down and pause their argument and turn to look at their employer.
"And what exactly is this blasted commotion all about?" Harry demanded.
"Well Sir we found a woman on board" Gibbs answered for the assembled crew.
"Yes yes and what exactly is the Issue with that?"
"Well sir it's bad luck to have a woman onboard" Gibbs answered.
Here the captain, a man from Lys, put in his two pieces. "Your man is a fool. In Lys It is known that having beautiful women on board is very good for luck and for profit."
Harry grew angrier and angrier with every word that came out of their mouths.
"So let me get this straight, you were arguing over whether to throw her overboard or whore her out!" Harry asks them sarcastically, his voice rising to nearly a yell by the end.
Here Gibbs looked down at his feet shamefully but the captain from Lys was remarkably unrepentant.
"Yes," he replied simply.
That was the last straw for Harry and he stupefied the man before ordering men to take him to the ship's brig.
"Now Gibbs perhaps you should consult your resident wizard before killing a woman over a possible jinx"
Gibbs firmly admonished by now just nodded his head.
"Gibbs, go get this woman in question and bring her to my cabin. Clearly she is in danger around the crew" Harry said staring disappointedly at the assembled men.
Harry walked back into his cabin getting to work on his paperwork and soon he heard a knock on his door.
"Come in"
The door opened and Harry was gobsmacked when he saw Daenerys Targareyn and Joshamee Gibbs walk in side by side.
"Gibbs, you can return to your duties. Daenerys sit it appears we have much to talk about."
Daenerys sat down, and Gibbs left after staring open mouthed at the pair, now certain that the mystery woman really was a witch.
As soon as he was gone Daenerys rushed to speak "I'm sorry that I lied to your men Mr.potter, this was all just a misunderstanding please don't send me back to Pentos."
Harry could see the desperation in her eyes as she pleaded he reached over the desk holding her hand reassuringly.
"Hey it's okay I understand you're not the first person to run away from a marriage. I'm just confused why you decided the life of a sailor was for you."
Here Daenerys looked down, blushing slightly, mumbling her answer. "I thought being a sailor would be a free life full of adventure."
Harry couldn't help but laugh, only stopping when Daenerys began to glare at him.
"I'm sorry it's just from what I have the life of a sailor is one of constant work and seemingly arbitrary orders."
Daenerys sighed defeatedly "yeah I learned that over the last few days."
Harry chuckled "you know you could have just asked and I would have given you a ride free of deck swapping duties."
Daenerys stares Harry in the eyes bewildered. "Really?"
"Sure I can't help everyone but you seem nice and you're the first princess I've ever met."
Daenerys blushed and they both became aware that Harry's hand was still resting on her's. Harry quickly pulled it back and they both averted their eyes.
"Uhm my cabin has an extra bedroom you can sleep in there ask me if there is anything you need."
Daenerys nodded, getting up. "Thank you I uh I'll talk to you later."
She then quickly left the room, Something Harry was grateful for. It had been a while since he had talked to any women his age and he was struck by awkwardness when he realized how forward his actions looked.
Bloody hell I'm screwed Harry thought she is more beautiful than Fleur and I just decided to invite her to stay in the room next door. A smile spread across his face well Harry thought at least the rest of this accursed journey will be more interesting.
