Chapter 16: Found You!

Mai Pov

The ride felt long and agonizing, to be honest, but at least I had a small chat with Bou-san which I enjoyed a lot, just catching up on a lot of things, the further down the road, the more it became painful to be further away from Naru.

It hurt when he left last year, but now is more painful. Is this even normal? I know we have to separate and can't always be together, but... It's painful.

"Mai, hello!" Bou-san waved his hand in front of me as we get off the elevator on the second floor of the same hotel where Naru and I spent last time. I came back to reality and look up at Bou-san.

"Sorry, was in deep thought. What did you say?" I question him.

"Err, okay, I said this place doesn't look that shabby or have horror vibes," Bou-san said as he rolls our luggage down the hallway and looks over the numbers on the doors, to look for mine. Then we stop at the fourth door down on our right and he takes out the keys from his pockets and went to open the door.

"This is your room, my room is next door. Can you manage or do you need help?" He asks, I shook my head and took the handle of my suitcase from him, and smiled.

"I'm fine, thank you for driving me here, do you want to go out for a walk after you settle?" I question him. He shook his head after he looks at his wristwatch.

"I have some work to do, and it's getting late," he tells me. I frowned but nodded at him.

"Too bad, I wanted to spend some more time with you, to catch up, we barely did since I was in the clinic," I admit to him.

"Tomorrow morning we can spend some time together and even get breakfast," he suggested.

"That would be lovely, but after that um…. I need to do something afterward, can you join me?" I question him after getting closer to him and lowered my voice.

He lowered himself and whispered.

"Why so secretive? Do you have an undercover mission?" he teased causing me to giggle.

"Yes actually," I told him as he lift himself and rose his hand to rub the top of my head causing me to smile.

"Sure kid, I don't mind. I'll see you have a nice night and don't miss your boss too much," he winks causing me to suddenly blush, Then he takes my hand and looks at my wedding ring. I rip my hand away from him and felt startled by his sudden grab.

"I was meaning to ask, why do you have a wedding ring? I took notice Naru has a matching one. Is something going on?" he wiggles his brows causing me to blush even more.

"Um… Oh to protect me, Naru faked a marriage," I edit.

"Fake marriage or a real one?" He pushes.

"Um... what did Naru tell you?" I questioned not sure how to answer him.

"He told us is a real marriage, but that's all. I pray that it becomes real, I have noticed the way you look at him, Mai. Your eyes give you away just like before, but I took notice is stronger than before. I honestly think you two fit and I wish you two the best and my blessings. I don't trust my younger sister with anyone else but him. Yet... If you both make it official, he has to go through me. I still have to install fear in him, no one hurts you." He said with a serious look causing my heart to grow warm.

"Thank you Bou-san." I wrap my arms around him and hug him, as he gently held me back, then we pull back and he gave me a strange look.

"Oh, but I did take notice of something strange, is that no one has attacked Miss. Hara, they got mad, but that's about it, but I don't get it, why were you forbidden from that place? It makes no sense at all." Bou-san admits.

It can have many meanings, but I have a hunch it has to do with Emica.

"I have a hunch,"

"You do?" he asks. I nodded at him as I pat his arm.

"I'll tell you after I connect the dots a bit more. Once again thank you for dinner and for driving me here."

Bou-san was about to say something when his phone rang, I rose his hand to signal me to wait, and takes out his phone from his back pants pocket and answer it.

"Yo, boss man," he said, causing my heart to jump.

Naru!

"Yeah we just arrived, she had her dinner and now she's heading into her room. Alright, alright, I will. Bye," he hangs up as I look at Bou-san looks disappointed.

That was fast, what in the world?

"He told me to remind you to take your medication. Also, don't do much movement with your hands," he said as I lift my hands, even though is not bandaged they were still sore and had a few scars. Just like Naru, he barely doesn't' move his injured hand.

"Alright, thanks, Goodnight," I said, Bou-san nodded and waited for me to enter my room. So I did and I closed the door and made sure it was locked.

I look to my right to see the large bed near the window, similar to our last room. I rolled my suitcase up to the bed and frowned.

How am I supposed to sleep?

I sigh in frustration and went to get changed.

"This is getting more difficult to do," I grumble under my breath as I slowly manage to get into bed while whimpering in pain.

True that the new medication is less harmful to me, but it's not doing its job in minimizing the pain, I can't win.

Finally wiggling myself into bed, I gasped out in pure agony when I felt my lower back stretch painfully.

I push my body into the mattress, trying hard to not cry out. Without moving I managed to gain control once again and slowly opened my eyes when I see my phone flashing since I have it on vibrate. I snake my arm forwards and grab it since I left it next to the pillow earlier. I look at the name and it's Naru. My heart skips a beat and I swipe to pick up.

"Naru," I said as I was met with silence on the other side of the line. I frowned at the situation,

"Naru?" I question again, moving slowly to the side trying to see if it's the signal or what.

"Just leave it there, I'll take care of it in a bit," I heard Naru speak to someone on the other side then I heard him clear his throat.

"Sorry, John and I were doing something," He went straight to the point. My cheeks turn warm at his sudden words causing me to smile gently.

"Ah, busy, busy then." I lamely joked.

"Yes, but time feels like it's going slower than normal without you here," he admits causing me to frown.

"Me too, I miss you so much, it's lonely here," I said to him when I heard a beeping sound coming from my phone. Glancing at it, I saw that Naru is trying to video call me. So I accepted him and his face shows up. I lift the camera and couldn't help but brighten up to see my husband's face.

"There you are," I wave at him making him smile at me and wave back.

"What is John still there?" I question him, causing him to pan his phone and I can see John sitting down and looking over a brown old book, (He sat on the living room couch,) and he lifts his gaze to look at me.

"Hey Mai," he waves at me, making me laugh nervously, but I waved at him.

"Hi John-kun, how are you?" I question him.

"Doing great, I was just reading over the diary," he said to me showing it to me. I arched a brow confused by his words.

"Huh? You guys got the diary?" I question him.

"Yes, Mr. Arata came over an hour ago to drop it off, since tomorrow we have the dinner party he was by and wanted to hand it over a bit early. It's very interesting so far," he said.

"Oh, you got the diary that quick? You had the dinner party already?" I question them.

"Yes, Mr. Arata changed his plans for tomorrow," John explains.

"I see, then, hope you find something good,"

"I'm sure we will," he smiles, making me smile back at him.

"I miss you, John," I told him, now feeling bad that I didn't have time with him.

"I miss you too Mai, let's have lunch together soon okay? Too bad we couldn't hang out," he said, causing me to blush.

"I miss you as well John and I would love that, then it's a date." I teased, making him blush, but nod at me, as Naru takes the phone back and shows his face back at me.

"Date huh?" He rose a brow causing me to giggle.

"Yes a date, don't worry, you're invited." I teased him, causing him to nod but shake his head.

"I hope you two enjoy your lunch I seriously mean it," he said, giving me his trust causing my heart to warm up.

"Thank you, so the diary? Anything?

"Not yet, just back story of his life and such, nothing on the factory," Naru adds while he moves away from John.

"Oh, and how are Lin-san and Masako-chan? Wait, how was the date you had with her?"

"They are doing fine, Lin is doing some of his work on his laptop, and the date went as it should have, awkward and got to learn a few new things about the village," he said as I watch him sit at the kitchen table, placing the phone a bit closer to himself.

"Ah." Now frowning at the memories of earlier today after our talk, she hasn't forgiven me for acting foolish that night.

She hasn't accepted my apology, I feel so bad about this situation.

"Don't worry, I have spoken to her, and have cleared up the misunderstanding," Naru tells me causing me to lift my gaze at him.

"W….what exactly did you tell…. her?" I stuttered feeling my heart hammering hard against my ribs as Naru took notice and frowns at me.

"Relax Mai, I didn't go into details, I just told her about the harassment that's all. Yet, I have had to add, everyone, knows about our marriage, but they don't know that we made it real, that part I edited out," he said to assure me. I sigh in relief.

"I don't have the guts to do so, it's too embarrassing," I lowered my head covering my face in embarrassment as Naru's eyes kept on me.

"Well, I'm sure it was going to be leaked out even Bou-san told me, but... For now, let's continue to keep it on the low until we solve this situation," I said, not looking at him.

"Mai, lift your head." He orders. I shook my head.

"No," I said as Naru suddenly taps on the phone causing me to look up.

"Naru?"

"Mai I couldn't stand it. I don't want your relationship with her to turn sour," he told me. I stare at his eyes, now aching to hug him as my heart hammers against my ribs.

He's so sweet. How is he so sweet? Now that I think about it, Naru has this sweet side of himself, but he barely ever showed it.

I swallowed hard, and I couldn't help but blew a kiss at him.

"I love you," I honestly told him wanting to hold him once again. Naru smiles at me and nods.

"Me too," he said. I froze on the spot as I look at the phone.

"What?"

"Me to Mai, I feel the same, you have no idea. I lo…"

"Naru, something came up in the cameras," Lin's voice echoes into the kitchen causing Naru to sigh in frustration and I did the same.

"I call you tomorrow," he said as I nodded, but then stop him before he hangs up.

"Tomorrow I'm going with Bou-san on a secret spy mission, I'm just letting you know," I told him. Naru nods, as he looks to his left.

"I'll be there in a sec," Naru said Lin, as he returns to look at me.

"Just be careful Mai, try to sleep and Mai," he said as I blew him a kiss causing him to smile at me sweetly.

"Yes?"

"I miss you as well. Good night," with that he hangs up and I place my phone down, closing my eyes as I imagine Naru laying next to me, holding me in his arms, a sense of peace overcame me as his words,

Me too, I miss you as well. His words echoed in my heart a soft smile passed through my lips and I giggled.

Does that mean he loves me as well? I don't ever want to forget this feeling, even though is scary, being in love and being loved back is the most beautiful feeling in this world. If only Naru knows how much his words mean to me.

I was able to somewhat sleep last night, but the pain and missing Naru were a bit hard to do so. I have no idea how, but my body was so uncomfortable without Naru by my side. I have no idea how in the world did I become so attracted to him in a short time.

Bou-san and I walk in front of the police station, the same one that Naru and I were at earlier this week, I wear my sunglasses, with a heavy black scarf covering my face as Bou-san wears his sunglasses and a cap.

We had breakfast at a nearby diner which felt very traditional and had great food. We spoke a lot more which I enjoyed, but time by time I would check my phone just in case Naru would leave me a text or something, but he never did.

"So we are spying on the cops?" Bou-san questions me, as he lowers his sunglass down to the bridge of his nose to raise both of his brows to look at me with a questionable look.

"Are you backing away?" I question him, Bou-san shook his head.

"Is this going to get me to jail?" he asks me. I look at him a bit taken aback, but I shrug my shoulders at him.

"If we are done playing twenty questions, I'm sure it shouldn't take us to jail, well, I hope not, I mean we aren't doing anything illegal, are we?" I asked him. There was silence, and a cold wind passes through us making me shiver.

"I'm afraid," Bou-san turns around to head back, but I move and grab his sleeve causing him to get pulled back, as he looks back at me.

"Why are you afraid?" I question him.

"Whatever you're thinking, last time we almost got arrested, don't you remember?" I felt a sweat drop behind my head.

"That's because you were drunk, how is it my fault that you walked into the woman's bathroom?" I rolled my eyes, as he has a sweat drop and rubs the back of his head.

"Oh, right, I didn't read the signs right." he nervously laughs as he turns to look at me.

"Yes, now let's go." I took in a big breath and began to walk down the path to head for the police officer.

"Wait," Bou-san grabs my arm to stop me. I turned to look at him and arched a brow.

"What?"

"Why am I dressed up? No one knows me and this makes us stand out more," he said as I blinked, and nodded in agreement.

"Right, didn't think of this through, then we should…"

"Aren't you the assistant of that man, what was his name again, oh Shibuya?" I heard behind us causing me to freeze on the spot.

Bou-san and I turned slowly to see Officer Stan is holding a foam cup of coffee in his hand, arching a brow and looking at us a bit confused why we are standing in front of his work area. I turned to look at him a bit robotically.

"M…. Morning," I wave.

"Do you need help? Or should I arrest you for being suspicious?" he bluntly said as he eyes me up and down. I nervously laugh, rubbing the back of my head.

"Um…. I have a question for you, I have a cold, that's why I dress like this…" I faked a cough causing Bou-san to sigh.

"Well, this isn't going as we planned," He murmurs. Stan looked at him, arching a brow but he could see through us.

"In five seconds if you don't tell me what are you two doing, I'm going to have to arrest you for suspicious activities." he threatens.

"I came because I was a bit afraid, I got a question for you, and I wish you can be honest with me," I told him not beating around the bush.

"Is that so, alright?"

"Yes, is Erity your daughter?" I question him. He went still at my sudden words and sighed.

"I figure you'll get to know that, yes, she is my daughter and at this point, I haven't even had the slightest clue who killed her." He tightens his grip on his foam cup, as anger poured into his eyes. I took a step closer to him.

"This is why we want to help her soul, she's in pain please help, not for us, but for the love you have for your daughter so she can move on and rest in peace," I said as he looks at me as though he was thinking over it.

"What do you want to know?" he finally gives in.

"What do you know about her friend? Emica?" I question him.

"That woman? She use to be my daughter's closest friend, but we never heard of her, she was a cripple and had down syndrome. I pity her very much and my daughter loved her. From what I remember she ran away from home because she fell in love with a young man and her parents disapproved. I never heard from her, since her parents never filed a missing report. Oh her parents passed away a few years ago, never got to know what happened to her, it's sad, to be honest."

Never filed a missing report? That's horrible.

"How horrible, and she had down syndrome? Do you remember who was her boyfriend?" I question him.

"The chief's second oldest son," he said as I grow still looking at him.

"What? He had another son?"

"Yes, he passed away, sadly on the same day when my daughter died."

So that could explain that man's soul pulling Naru down? Was he the one that did those horrid things to her?

"And what about your daughter's boyfriend?" I asked, now growing nervous by this.

"He? He moved out of Japan, and went to live in America, he met a young woman and got married, he has two young adult sons, and a daughter, that's all I know of him." I can see hatred in his eyes.

So he didn't die.

"And what about the alleged curse?"

"I think is all to take advantage of venerable girls so they won't progress legal actions, but we are working on getting a warrant for another case that happen last month."

"Do you have any idea what might have happened to Emica?" I question him.

"No, but I always have a suspicious feeling that the burnt body was hers, but we never could get solid evidence since her body was too crisp to gather anything to identify her."

"Then why did you lie to us?" I question him.

"Because I don't want anyone being in my business, and I don't believe that bull about her spirit. I believe someone killed her and I'm betting my being that it's that bastard chief. He always hated my daughter." he explains.

My words are cut off when my phone began to ring, I lift my finger to signal them to give me a moment to pick up.

"Naru!" I said a little too happy. Bou-san arched a brow, looking at me. I cleared my throat and turn to speak.

"I'm with Officer Stan, I got important information and..."

"Can you pass me to him? Sorry, Mai, I have something to speak to him about, and I'm sure is similar to what you have spoken to him," he orders cutting me off. I frowned, but nodded, even though he couldn't see me. I turned and extend my hand out to Officer Stan.

He sounds he's in a hurry, I wonder what's going on.

"My boss wants to speak to you?" I told him as he gave me a questioning look at my phone. He takes it and places it on his ear.

"Yes?" he went quiet as he heard Naru speak and the poor officer's eyes narrowed as though he just received some news he wasn't expecting.

"I'll see you in half an hour," he simply said as he and me over the phone, I place my phone on my ear once again.

"Mai," Naru said on the other side.

"Yes?"

"I won't be contacting you for a whole day, Bou-san will come back to help. The case is almost solved, can you wait for me?" he asks me. I licked my lips as sadness overshadow me, and I drop my eyes.

"Always," I said as I can almost feel his warm smile.

"As I, I will always wait for you Mai. Just don't go out and don't open the door for anyone, unless is one of us," he said to me. I nodded, as I turned to look at Bou-san.

"Do you want to explain it to Bou-san?" I question him.

"You can pass me the phone to him, but he'll take you back to the hotel, just hold on Mai okay?" he said to me, I tighten my grip on my phone, but nodded, but this bad feeling filled my heart once again, and I began to tremble.

"Alright, oh and Naru," I called out.

"Yes, Mai?"

"Please be careful."

"I will Mai you as well."

...

….

...

Bou-san sent me back to my room, and since then, I've been stuck inside, only ordering outside food, and working on my school work. I have taken a few tests, which I manage to pass not high marks, but enough to go through.

I miss Naru, I wonder how it went?

It was past nine, and now that I have finished, I stretched my back, only to wince in pain.

Everything is going so fast, now that I'm alone, I can progress a bit more, and my feelings for Naru are real, I have no idea how I ended up falling deeply in love with him in such a short time, but I don't regret it. Well, I already liked him, so maybe it turned out like that? My concern is about my lower back. If this keeps up, then I might not be able to have children. I want to have one, a piece of me and Naru.

I blushed hard at the thought of being a Mama, as I wrap my hands around my stomach, imagining a small baby. My flesh and blood, made from our love.

Wait, does Naru wants kids? I never asked him. Now feeling sad at the thought that maybe in the future, he doesn't want to have children.

I jump at the sudden thunder that roar in the sky, illuminating my room. I turned to my right to face the window, to see the heavy droplets of rain pouring outside.

Now that I'm alone while the rain is pouring heavily, once again it's a storm. I rubbed my arms, now feeling very worried about the gang.

The phone in my room began to ring causing me to jump once again from fright when suddenly the lights above my bed began to flicker and a cold shiver ran down my spine.

The ringing for some odd reason grew louder and louder with each ring. Slowly getting up from my chair, I move slowly to the phone.

Please be the receptionist. I prayed, as I reach for the phone and swallowed hard, to sit on the edge of my bed and picked up, finally cutting off the ringing.

"Hello?" I said, but there was no answer, but subtle breathing.

No, no, no, please don't be like those horror movies. I prayed as I held the phone tighter and tighter, almost feeling my hands turning cold from the lack of blood flow.

I was about to hang up when suddenly I heard a familiar female voice.

"I found you!" the woman said with mocking and cynical laughter causing me to hang up fast, as the lights turns off above me. I hung up fast and stood up so fast from the shock that in a sudden movement, my back throbbed so hard, that I fell to the ground due to the pain.

I gasped out, taking in big breaths, and slowly crawled towards the bed when the lights went back on from nowhere and my heart stops for a brief second to see two white, pale eyes looking straight at me, I jump back as this new ghost disappears from my sight.

That wasn't the Emica or Erity that was a new ghost. What in the world? That voice, that's the same voice from my accident, but she sounded alive, not a ghostly voice, then who was that ghost?

I slowly get up from my bed and headed for the cell phone (It was on the table next to my laptop,) but suddenly I stopped when I heard a subtle knock on the window, almost a mocking knock. Chills run down my spine, giving me goosebumps.

No, no, this isn't a horror movie, Bou-san is not with me. I can feel my heart drumming hard against my ribs, causing me to swallow hard.

Looking around, I found my umbrella against the wall near the door. Slowly, without trying to make a lot of noise, I walk almost tiptoeing went up to the umbrella, and wrap my hand around it, when the taps on the window grew louder and louder almost urgent. My eyes narrow, and I look at the door making sure it's locked, then with the umbrella at hand, I turned to grab my cell phone and rushed to the bathroom and locked it, turning off the lights. Turning, I manage to get into the bathtub, and huddle myself in the corner, drawing the curtain close.

Shaking violently, I turn on my phone, making me wince from the sudden light, I swiped and with shaky hands, I began to look for the first number and dialed Naru.

Please, please pick up, I begged in my head as my hands shook terribly from the thought of him not doing so.

Yet he didn't pick up at all, so I tried to call the police, but nothing happened, the phone line kept getting cut off, due to the storm.

An eerie silence filled the bathroom, causing me to grow even more paranoid. I licked my dry lips clenching my phone for my dear life along with the umbrella.

"Naru, I'm petrified. I need you….." I cried out.

I closed my eyes so tightly that I could see stars forming behind my eyes, and it began to haunt me the sound of the car screeching filled my ears, causing me to hyperventilate, and I clenched my chest. My body twitched as the memories of being hit came into my mind, making my body ache more.

I couldn't hold it anymore, I passed out from pure anxiety and fear, but missed when the door slowly opened, and someone stepped in.
