A.N. I'm going, to be honest. I have so many ideas for this story...but the specific parts I have inspiration for are the ones I need to build up. The build is also the most difficult part because I know where I want to go but not how I'm getting there which sucks honestly. I know it's on me as a writer to figure it out, but honestly, it just feels frustrating at times.

Either way here's what I manage to cobble together. I had a few ideas before this one but some of them felt like they were getting too weird for what they were supposed to be. Hopefully, it still captures the eldritch nature of the Chasm while also setting things up for our 'big' reveal.

Lumine and her party were exhausted. The Chasm had been toying with them for what appeared to be months on end with no hope of it relenting soon. To their horror though time was meaningless to them here. She kept time with a watch, letting it tick away. She tried to check in with the others outside, via a communication device, but even though days were passing here, minutes were passing outside. What felt like months of torment to them, had been merely a few minutes to the party outside.

She had grossly underestimated this 'thing's' ability to keep fighting. It seemed to derive a sick pleasure in pushing them to the edge of sanity. "Just a little further though," she told herself. They just needed to get a little further down.

"You wretched monsters." A voice echoed in her mind. Lumine froze in her spot as she felt thoughts not her own start to filter into her mind. They spoke as not a single being but as many, man, woman, child, old, young, mortal, and divine. She questioned who they could be, but the being seemed to answer her right away, it was the Chasm.

Visions of the dead and fallen were shown to her; Blue skies, prosperous small villages, families, and the sorts were shown to her with laughter and joy ringing through the air. As quickly as they came, they were snuffed out by others; a sky now tainted blood red, with monsters running around along with the Ruin mechanical beings. A now abandoned village devoid of life, of sound, filled with only sorrow, rage, and hatred remained.

"You're wrong," Lumine argued back. "We aren't the ones to blame. It was Celestia who wronged you, who wronged us. They are the problem with this world. They don't belong here." She told the Chasm.

"LIAR."

Various images began to flash in her mind, images of Abyssal Monsters fighting against the Millileth, the Yakshas, and Adepti plagued her mind, all taking place in the chasm. She saw it, all those that fell, all those that bled, all that perished. She saw them all get buried and assimilated into the Chasm.

Lumine felt the ground begin to shake. The Chasm began quaking, it began to shake and rumble. Several of the Abyss Order's members found themselves losing their footing, opting to start floating to keep themselves steady. The Chasm started to collapse, no, it was trying to devour them.

"Everyone, move," Lumine ordered as the group took into a running sprint.

"You wish to hold God in your palm, for your hubris you shall pay for it all."

As the group ran to avoid the walls began shifting around them. New pathways opened, old pathways closed, and the caves kept churning around, transforming which step. Eventually, they managed to make it a dead end. Panicked the group looked around, searching for a way out. They tried using the abyssal network to make a portal out but as soon one started to form, it fizzled out.

All seemed lost for Lumine. She cursed herself for not being prepared enough for this. She had assumed the portal network would have allowed them a way out but she was wrong, and now they were going to die. This plan had blown up in her face big time.

Wait a minute….

"That's it." Lumine cheered as an idea formed in her mind. She used the elemental vision to try and get a quick picture of the world. She was thankful for what she found. Several hollow and breakable rocks were still around them. She ordered all the units that were available to make their pyro shields and stand next to breakables. On her command, the electro units struck their pyro allies and the mix of pyro and electro elemental energy overloaded the area around them. Several explosions rang breaking the floor beneath them. The group soon found themselves freefalling into the deeper bowels of the Chasm. It was by mere fortune that there was an underground pond to break their fall.

Lumine felt her body get submerged in the water below. She was expecting it to be freezing cold but to her surprise, it was not. It was warm…no it wasn't warm it was hot, and it was getting even hotter. It was starting to boil. She rushed to the surface feeling her skin start to sting from the rising temperature of the water.

Upon reaching the surface she opened her eyes to find the water bubbling and vaporizing around her, obscuring her vision. She heard a voice calling to her somewhere. Using her elemental sight she found the source; her party had found the shore. Hurriedly swimming over, Lumine exited the water, her skin blistering. As she looked and gasped for air, she found her heralds and mages helping to ease the pain.

"Where are we?" One of the mages questioned as they looked around. The steam that had once clouded the cavern suddenly seemed to dissipate as the temperatures started dropping once more.

Lumine's eyes scanned around before settling on one object. A door that did not belong in there was right across from their position. She smirked as she stared at it, relief washing over her as she saw their end goal.

"We're here," Lumine whispered, her breath visible in the freezing room. She could feel the rage and malice lingering around them. The Chasm's rage truly knew no bounds, but it had yet to break them. It had tried but she knew now it lost.

The Chasm felt confused. Something about this situation was not how it was supposed to be. It had drawn those wretched sinful invaders towards its center, where it was at its strongest. Yet the fear that had existed, the worry that it was feeding on had disappeared. The girl from another world was looking at its door, its core, its heart, not with fear of being in the belly of the beast, but with joy.

The previous outlander and his friends had come here, but they had been uncertain. It had tested them and found them familiar if lacking. They weren't supposed to be here, so it threatened to consume them, but they found a way out. Hopefully, they would leave it alone now, but this was different.

It had sensed it before, an intention. The ones who came before had stumbled into it, but the ones before it now, the Abyss Dwellers, they wanted to be here. It felt the girl walking towards it with her sword drawn and her party readying themselves as they approached the door.

"You caused us quite the trouble, I must admit." The girl spoke confidently. "You almost had me worried, back there." She continued as she walked to the mechanism. "But this ends now." She activated the mechanism and opened its core.

The Chasm wasted no time in trying to reach into her mind. It searched for her biggest fear and immediately brought it alive before. To its surprise, it recognized something in her fears. The outlander boy from before was dead in her fears. His body was lifeless on the ground bleeding out with various cubes littered across his body, like cancer-consuming him. However above the boy stood a figure that Chasm vaguely recognized.

Is that the Sustainer? No, that wasn't right. Something was different about her. No matter.

The girl seemed to be hesitant at first upon seeing the faux Sustainer over her brother. The Chasm could sense her beginning to shake and tremble even when she tried to keep her bravado before it.

"Do it now." A voice called out.

Huh.

Chains made of shadows and darkness manifested from the sides, rushing into its core and binding it. The Chasm felt…suffocated as the abyssal power started to flow into it. It tried to find the source, the ones that accompanied the girl, the sinners of the godless nation. They were the ones trying to bind it.

Not again. It was because of them that it was the way it was now. Their creations, their power, it was the blood they shed and darkness they had coveted that had made it into this. The rage within was stemming as it tried to resist. It could feel the anger and anguish of all the souls that had fallen. The wills of those that died by tainted, were cursed to never move on because Teyvat couldn't help them.

It sent its ghouls outwards, to try and free itself but the abyssal power was able to counter it. The Chasm for lack of better words screamed in anguish as it felt the Abyss's tendrils sink into it. It had been corrupted before that's why Celestia had tried to destroy it. However, this pain, this decay, it was like nothing else.

"I know it hurts, but we aren't the villains here." The girl tried to assure. It didn't believe her. It knew better than to believe. It had long since lost trust in the Celestials and the Mortals. It only trusted Teyvat now, that's all it could do.

With its world becoming darker as the corruption of the Abyss spread. The Chasm knew it had only one other option. It let out one last cry, releasing whatever energy remained. Its hopes were small but perhaps maybe, just maybe…they would reach…. her… despite the eons since her last appearance.

Paimon felt a shock ring through her body. It was enough to startle to completely through her into disarray as her body convulse midair. She lost control and found herself falling just as she and the Traveler were gliding across Sumeru.

"Paimon," Aether called as he angled himself to a cliffside. He managed to get his feet on the sides. Retracting his wings, the traveler then channeled geo into his feet as he pushed off from the cliff, lunging himself towards Paimon. He managed to catch his companion, tucking himself just in time to roll as they crashed into the ground, his body bracing Paimon's to keep her out of harm's way.

He felt something was broken inside, but that was a minor inconvenience at this point. Looking down he found Paimon in his arms, unharmed…but still unconscious. Panic began to fill the Traveler's body as he tried reviving her.

"Come one Paimon wake up," Aether whispered as he gently shook her. "I've got your favorite food." He told her. No response.

He concentrated as hard as he could on the way point nearest to a healer. In a rather roundabout way he found himself being warped straight to Sangonomiya, the furthest place from Sumeru right now, but the closest waypoint to a healer, Kokomi. Aether heard the soldiers of Watasumi island rushing towards him.

"Get Kokomi," He ordered as he tried his best to lift Paimon. The soldiers wasted no time going to find the priestess. Meanwhile, Aether turned to his companion. "It's going to be okay Paimon." He whispered.
