Yes, it's an update. I am...not so sorry for leaving this so long. Now you see, my excuse is that I'm going into fandoms to fandoms but suddenly I had the urge to write anything other than the fandom I'm currently in to take a break then I remember this. I probably will leave this again (very sorry) but I think I'll start paying attention to this.
Anyway, it's a long time and I'm sure y'all don't even remember what is this about and I'll have to spare you guys from reading the disastrous past chapter that I'm clearly not proud of. I think I get better. I think. A tiny bit.
And so, I'll summarize this in the shortest way possible.
[Out of option with all of his sons dead, Nono orders Reborn to seek Tsunayoshi who has been missing for 12 years. With very little clue, Reborn chases it into a small unnamed place. And just when he thought he finally found something, he was knocked out. He woke up to find that his kidnapper is his target who didn't want anything from him but for him to stay put.]
That's the gist of it, I think. I suck at summary btw. No beta.
Chapter 5: We're Going on a Trip
Reborn doesn't know what to expect in his current situation. Although there were numerous scenarios running inside his head, he couldn't grasp what his kidnapper intended to achieve by keeping him here.
After being left alone, Reborn thinks back of the day before. When he's busy tracking the trail of Tsunayoshi. Even back then he had an inclination that he's purposefully being led around. How could he not when he went around in circles in search of him. There was nothing such as coincidence. He could only conclude one thing.
Tsunayoshi had planned to do this from the start.
'Never thought you managed', his ass. Thinking about it causes Reborn to fume again. While he admits he was being hasty since there was far too little information he could grasp, he never thought that he actually is kidnapped easily. Far too easily.
The kid is right; he would bring how he was kidnapped to his grave.
What Reborn knows now is that everything about him and the Vongola has been long exposed to 'Vuoto'. It did not surprise him that much in honesty. The hacker is just that famous. If he considers what the kid's said is true.
He wrinkles his eyebrow and lets out a sigh. What is the deal with that kid anyway? Reborn still got the chills when he thinks back of his eyes that stare at him. He looks at Leon who crawled back into his shoulder.
"I thought you're comfortable on the side of the bed." Reborn scoffed at his companion. Leon whipped his tongue out once before snuggling into Reborn.
"So much for a partner," Reborn murmured and petted Leon. His dark eyes scanned his surroundings once again. It was complete darkness now that with the lack of little light escapes from the framed window. No matter how trained his eyes are inside the darkness, it's naturally impossible to see if there's no light to reflect at all. For now, embarrassingly, Reborn acknowledges that he couldn't do anything and he is not in immediate danger. The state of relaxed Leon had proven that. But it does not make him any less anxious.
His phone has no use at all. He could not contact anyone unless he wanted to alert them which would very well backfire at him. His report to Nono is not something he needs to send regularly. His best shot is probably to contact Verde but he can't do that with this phone.
His food was delivered by a mass of mist, shaping suspiciously like a human. The chain in his ankle was long enough for him to be able to walk around the room while the choker that is in his neck had the type of chain that could lengthen when you pull a little and went back on its own. Reborn tried to pull to its maximum extent but it didn't seem to end.
Other than delivering food – which consists of three meals a day along with two snacks in between, it will also come to clean the room everyday, and deliver clean clothes. When Reborn tries to touch it, the part that he touches dissipates before it goes back resulting in no reaction. The door stubbornly won't budge at all even though he had never heard it getting locked.
The room was a standard 12x12 room with a small bathroom on the corner, next to the door. There is a small bookshelf on right which Reborn questioned whether it is purposefully put there for him just to mock him since he can't even read because of the darkness. The window, next to the bookshelf, was framed and covered with thick obscured glass with patterns that cause Reborn unable to see through. It was impossible for him to break in his current state. The wall and the floor is also made in materials that prevent it from easily breaking but could still transfer sound. And although there isn't any camera surveillance in sight, his heightened sense and instinct had known that he's being monitored in some way.
His only way to keep track of time was the little light that would appear through the obscured window and disappear. It has been 3 days since he's kidnapped and not once has Tsunayoshi appeared again. Slowly, Reborn reluctantly thinks of what he said before. He had been left here because his kidnapper had no use for him, did not want to let him around yet did not want to kill him.
When he trashed the things around him, the mist would simply come in, clean up, and replace anything that is broken. His kidnapper doesn't even care that there are sharp items because they are useless to the chains. There's only Leon there to accompany him but with Reborn now without flame, his partner had spent most of the time sleeping like responding to his nature, leaving Reborn with silence as his company.
Reborn's dark eyes stare at the door in hatred with his bruised fist clenched. The next day, there's a first aid kit in the nightstand and Reborn throws it into the wall.
Rhythmical footsteps echoed on the corridor as Tsuna walked. The echoes eerily cause as if there's more than one person walking yet the other presence had no noise on its trailing. Tsuna glances back at the other presence that is nothing but a mere black shadow.
"Don't meddle in needlessly." As soon as he uttered the words, the shadow dissipated, back to its owner to deliver the words.
Tsuna walks until he reaches the end of the corridor and enters the room. It was a room filled with screens. Constant noise of beeps came out of one of the electronic tools to which Tsuna never bothered with. He gazes at the largest screen showing the inside of the dark room he just came out of before.
Tsuna continues to watch for a while until the sound of an alarm rings on his side. He took a seat in front of his computer to check and update his daily information. With Reborn captured, Vongola had no other way of collecting information. He had left his phone with the intention of manipulating the content should Reborn send any messages to throw Vongola off his trail. Though he knew it wouldn't be that easy.
He makes sure to give his guest the best hospitality with his mist and is not involved in any other than that. Since Reborn did nothing to alert him, before he knew it, Tsuna had forgotten about Reborn. Other than occasionally trashing his room, injuring himself as a result, there was nothing Reborn could do. He made sure of that.
He expected nothing from the arrogant, prideful man. Perhaps doing this might bring more risk involving the Trinisette, Arcobaleno but he also knows for a fact that Arcobaleno rarely involve themselves with each other. He doesn't know to what extent that information is true but he could play with fire well enough to take that risk.
By now, the Vongola should've been busy after they found Nono's youngest body. His problem was solved, for a short while. After cleaning the mess, Nono will be more desperate at finding an heir.
He drummed his finger on the table. It was soft taps at the beginning before it became more forceful and stopped abruptly. Tsuna's eyes sharpen.
Should he just destroy Vongola?
It won't solve anything. If anything, it'll simply bring more problems to his plate but the thought of it is appealing. He rethinks again of his next action. Vongola is not the largest Famiglia for any reason. While the head might be weakening, the body itself is enormous, not to mention its tail. Every balance will fall if he just destroys it without any thought. He makes a final tap on the table.
Tsuna wrapped everything that involved him in the city. There's not much to do since he could just leave everything immediately and he doubts anyone would find this place. The thing is that he got immersed when he was searching the route he'll take. It's different now that he'll be going with Reborn. Nevermind his appearance as a baby that can't be tempered with, he's the strongest hitman.
Speaking of him, Tsuna turns toward the screen when he hears a low thud. Reborn's hand was bleeding from the result of him punching the door. Shortly, Reborn turned and went to bed. Perhaps it's time. He silently apologizes for forgetting him and losing track of time.
Around noon, the door clicked open. It wasn't the mist coming in.
Tsunayoshi carries a small luggage in his hand. Ignoring Reborn's cautious stare, he came closer.
"We're leaving."
"…To?"
"Siena."
"For what?" Reborn grit his teeth when Tsunayoshi did not answer. "For what?" He asked again.
"Meet someone. Do you like springs?"
Why is he suddenly asking that?
"Why?"
Again, Tsunayoshi did not answer. Instead he puts his hand around Reborn's chained ankle. He looks at it warily, ready to bolt out anytime. With a sound of click, the cuff opened. Reborn rubbed his ankle to fend off the cold feeling from the metal.
"Is that a no? Perhaps horse race?"
He walked past Reborn, to the end of the bed. This time the sound of chains falling down then went back inside the wall slowly. Reborn brought his hand to the back of his neck where his choker was attached to the chains.
"No,"
"That's unfortunate."
His wrist was grasped by Tsunayoshi. He tried to jerk out of his grip only for him to clench and pull his hand. Swiftly, with the first aid that is on the nightstand, placed by the mist after he threw them away, Tsunayoshi treated his injured fist.
"Just leave it."
"That will be a problem."
"What are you planning? You have no need to treat me or make sure I'm well."
"I told you before. I had nothing planned for you."
Reborn let out a scoff. "For now, isn't it?"
After Tsunayoshi finishes wrapping bandages, he was pulled again, this time more forceful. His other arm was grasped when he lost his balance and fell into the bed. He scrambles to get up while Tsuna already walks away.
Both his wrist now have dark cuffs just like the one that is on his neck. Anger rises up as he glares at Tsunayoshi.
"What is this for?"
"Flame absorbs cuffs. Also flame resistant. Don't worry; it won't break even if you bomb it."
"How reassuring, you bastard."
"Since Arcobaleno has massive innate flames, one wouldn't be enough." Tsuna picked up his luggage. "I'll have you know that without me, no one is able to get those off."
Reborn clicked his tongue. It basically means that he is welcome to run away, if he could. Leon crawls into his shoulder and licks his cheek in an attempt to soothe him. With gritted teeth, Reborn jumps out of the bed and walks toward the opened door. Although he walks on his own accord, there is a gun pointed at him all the time. With his weakened body, other than the fact that he's pretty much a grown man inside, he's now as good as a normal baby with abnormal matured muscles, and indestructible cuffs around his wrists and neck.
The building he was held captive in was an apartment in a rural and deserted area of the city. Reborn had an inclination where they're at now that he looks at his surroundings. But that doesn't matter as he rides the car that is parked in front of the entrance door. They drove for almost an hour, stopping at a gas station once for Tsunayoshi to buy something along with snacks for him.
It felt like he's being treated like a child, but he noticed that he had yet eaten lunch. Reluctantly, very reluctantly, Reborn ate the dark chocolate. They had lunch later when they entered a private plane. A freaking private plane.
How come no one notices this!? Having a private plane puts a lot of notice marks on those people because it screams how much money they had to spare. It's almost absurd how no one notices that a minor owns a private plane no matter if it was under a different identity. A minor is riding this plane, that alone should be enough information to garner attention. The food was good though, Reborn admitted very reluctantly when Tsunayoshi kept staring at him while asking the question.
"It isn't mine." He said out of nowhere. Reborn snapped his attention from the window to look at Tsunayoshi who was still messing with his laptop, doing something with random numbers and letters Reborn gave up on figuring out 10 minutes ago. "The plane," He continued.
Reborn stares at him for a while, wondering what's with the sudden information.
"Just thought you wanted to know."
Reborn narrows his eyes then turns back to stare into the window. Mind reading was supposed to be his job, damnit.
"You can ask a question if you want. I'm sure you have a lot of it."
"Are you even going to answer them?"
"Depends," Reborn let out a snort.
"Who are we meeting?"
"An acquaintance."
"Why are we meeting- this acquaintance of yours?"
"I have something to ask him. Some advice I suppose. He has more common sense than I have."
Reborn couldn't help but wonder who this person is. But then again, perhaps no one with common sense would think that kidnapping an Arcobaleno to stop Vongola from searching him; moreover succeeding it.
"Why are you bringing me along?"
"I can't leave you in that apartment, unless you want to die from starvation."
"So the choice was to bring me along. Without any attempt on hiding me whatsoever?"
"It will garner more attention if I do that, besides; you wouldn't go along without a fight, would you?"
"If you intend to dress me up like a baby and cradle me as a disguise, over my dead body."
"Don't worry, I have never thought of doing it." The way he answered instantly irked Reborn. Actually, anything the bastard is doing will irk Reborn nevertheless.
"Are you a Sky-Mist?"
"In a way, I am."
"How are you able to manifest that humanoid mist without a medium?"
"Why do you assume I don't use medium?"
Reborn paused. Is he testing him?
"You use it earlier at the airport."
"Ah," Tsunayoshi momentarily stopped. "I just did it." He answered with a slight shrug. As expected, none of his questions are answered properly.
"What are you working on from earlier?"
"Just messing with some codes, I might erase this soon since I've been going on circles."
Reborn glance again at the laptop. No wonder he couldn't make anything sense. While coding is not his field of expertise, at least he knows some. But what in that laptop is just a jumbled-up mess. At this point, Reborn almost felt ridiculed by overthinking everything Tsunayoshi does. It was silent again for a while before Reborn asked the question he had asked before again.
"What are you planning?"
"For now? Nothing. I'll decide after meeting my acquaintance." The answer came in similar form. But at least this time Reborn had an inclination to what is happening. Their short question and answer session ends with this as the pilot announces of their near landing after an hour of flight.
They travel again with the car for around 40 minutes, passing the suburban area. They stopped once for a toilet break and by the time Reborn returned to the car, Tsuna had a pizza on his lap. He was on his phone while munching on a slice and offered it to him as soon as he approached without even lifting his head. Reborn didn't even bother to comment on it anymore and took the offered pizza. It didn't taste as good as the one he had on the plane.
Siena was bustling with people and cars especially around their near festive event. Palio di Siena is just around the corner of the week. Flags and stands are placed all over the place.
Tsunayoshi pulls over the car in front of a small motel and leaves with his luggage. He walks into the crowd and completely blends in instantly, if it were not for that there's a baby walking with him. Still, in the busy crowd, no one questions them.
Tsunayoshi enters a payphone, leaving Reborn outside by himself, and Leon, who woke up because of the loud noises. Reborn stares at his kidnapper incredulously then brushes Leon with his finger. It's a joke. The whole trip, Tsunayoshi didn't even spare a glance at him at all. He could've just walked away anytime, the only problem is whether he'll take the chance. Reborn wonders whether he just doesn't care or is confident that Reborn won't run away. Either way, it didn't bode Reborn well. To be obedient.
Approximately, around 12 minutes later, Tsunayoshi is not far in front of him, buying something on a food stand with his hand holding other different food. Reborn clenched his jaw. Leon makes a small hissing sound to which Reborn ignores. Begrudgingly, he went to Tsunayoshi. As soon as he's close enough, Tsunayoshi lowered the food he just bought to Reborn. Oh how much he wants to put hole into the kid in front of him with his gun.
He did not take the food. Leon nibbles on it though.
"Welcome back,"
"I would be crazy to reply to that."
"I guess so," He hummed.
Tsunayoshi did not tell Reborn anything so he walked with him around the city with seemingly no certain objective location in mind. They didn't walk that long since the day was late. People soon start packing their stands and heading home for the day. Then Tsunayoshi starts to take a different turn to a more deserted place. Reborn wonders if earlier they really just walk without purpose to sightsee.
The building they reached was in almost similar appearance as the place they were in before. It's no doubt that it belongs to Tsunayoshi in a way. Again, after they entered the building, Reborn was left to his own devices. His bag that is placed in a room he chooses is not appreciated at all. The fact that he got his bag back is, the fact that it somehow is in this particular room out of numerous rooms that exist in the building is not. Reborn immediately changes the room he'll be using.
The dinner starts with the humanoid mist coming into his room, and stands in his front door unmoving until he follows it down to the kitchen where numerous dishes are already prepared. Tsunayoshi is not there, thankfully. Or Reborn might stab him with the fork that's shining on the table.
I try to make it longer and I think I could but time is not on my side. Soon, there will be important exam so I hurried the update. I really treasures all of your comments. It makes me smile a lot when I saw them. Thank you for those that like and follow this fic. Love you guys, take care 333. (Very sorry to you guys as well.) Byee.
