Chapt 13

The Plan Part 2

Elizabeth calls Sam

"Sam, it's Elizabeth. I need to tell you something. Can we meet for coffee?"

Sam replies, "sure, is everything okay? I heard about Audrey. I'm glad she is okay. Do you have news about Esme? Do you want Dante to join us?"

Elizabeth says, "no, there is no need to involve Dante. I wanted to thank you for watching Jake. He had a great time with Danny. I wouldn't mind getting caught up. I found a great coffee place, something different than Sonny's place. I could pick you up."

Sam says, "sounds like a plan. I can be ready in an hour. I'll drop the kids off at Monica's."

Elizabeth calls Jason and says, "I'm on my way to pick up Sam. We should be there in about 35-40 minutes. I'm not sure how she will react; a beta test for the others." Elizabeth laughs.

Elizabeth picks up Sam. While she is driving, watching the rearview mirror.

Sam asks, "where are we going? Why are you checking to see if someone is following us?"

Elizabeth replies, "I haven't been entirely honest with you. Don't worry; it's nothing sinister. We don't want too many people to know yet."

Sam asks, "we?"

Elizabeth replies, "I'll let him tell you. You will find out in a few more minutes."

Elizabeth pulls into the driveway, and Sam follows her inside the safe house. She is shocked to see Jason waiting.

Elizabeth says, "I'll leave you alone while I get us coffee."

"Jason, is that you?" Sam asks.

Jason replies, "yes, it is me. I'm not dead. I'm sorry you had to find out this way; I don't want too many people to know yet." He asks her to sit down. Elizabeth brings coffee for everyone and brings a kitchen chair to sit in between Jason and Sam.

Sam begins asking all the anticipated questions, and Jason stops her. "Please let me tell you everything that's happened, and if you still have questions, I'll answer anything you want to know," Jason tells her the rehearsed story he and Elizabeth agreed on telling.

Jason says, "do you have any questions? I assume I'll need to make a statement to Dante when I return. At some point, I'd love to see Danny. If you aren't comfortable at first, you could bring him here,"

Sam replies with tears slowly falling down her face, "I'm glad you are alive, but I don't understand why you didn't come forward once you were healthy."

Elizabeth replies, "this is where I come in. There is something only a few people know. Esme is my daughter and Cameron's twin. The real reason why Esme filmed the sex tape and took me was that she wanted to punish me. Jason and I believe Esme was the 'operative' Jason overheard Peter mentioning. I remember hearing Helena's voice, and she told me she was naming her Esme. She said she was continuing the Spencer curse, and Esme would come after my loved ones and me one day when I least expected it."

Sam says, "I'm sorry that happened to you, but it still doesn't explain Jason."

Jason replies, "at the time, I didn't know about Elizabeth's relationship with Esme. I planned on leaving after I knew who the operative was and who they were targeting. I put the pieces together when Nikolas told me of Elizabeth's disappearance. Esme was a suspect. Instead of investigating the tunnel collapse, I returned to Port Charles. Eventually, with Spinelli's help, we rescued Elizabeth. She told me about Helena and Esme. I was still healing, and I didn't want to tip my hand in case someone besides Esme was involved. After Audrey was hurt, I was more determined to find Esme. While we still don't know if she has any other associates, I wanted to come forward to get more protection for my loved ones. You, Danny, and Scout could be a target because of what Helena has done in the past. Peter was involved in the tunnel collapse. While Helena and Peter are dead, I worry about everyone that could be involved with Esme."

Sam says, "and you and Elizabeth?"

Elizabeth replies, "that just happened. After he rescued and helped me recuperate, we fell in love again. Jason said you both were over. If my Gram wasn't hurt, I think he wanted to come forward sooner, but he was concerned about what Esme might do if he showed himself. We should have come forward sooner, but I wanted Gram safe first."

Sam says, "I won't say anything to Dante, but you should make a statement soon. I am happy with Dante. Elizabeth, I hope you can finally find happiness with Jason, but the danger still exists. Jason and I broke up over it."

Elizabeth replies, "I understand, and we are working on how they will manage everything."

Jason adds, "you two should leave. I'll call Sonny and Carly, and it's probably not a good idea if you are here when they arrive."

Sam and Elizabeth leave. As Elizabeth drives Sam back to the Quartermaines, Sam asks, "why was I told before Sonny and Carly?"

Elizabeth replies, "Carly" she laughs. We were concerned if Carly knew before others, she would make a beeline for you. You deserved to know because of Danny. Danny is important to Jason and wants to ensure he is protected."

Sam thanks Elizabeth and asks, "are you sure you know what you are getting yourself into?"

Elizabeth replies, "yes. I have given it a lot of thought and realized more dangerous things have happened to me that had nothing to do with Jason. Ever since Peter killed Franco, I realized nothing is guaranteed. My kids are older, and I believe Jason will do everything he can to protect us."

Elizabeth pulls into the Quartermaine's driveway and promises to get Jake and Danny together again soon.

Meanwhile, Jason calls Sonny. When Sonny recognizes Jason's voice, he gasps. Jason asks if Sonny and Carly can come to a safe house where he's been staying. He will explain everything once they arrive but asks not to tell anyone they are coming.

After Sonny and Carly arrive, Jason tells his story. He's prepared himself for the same questions that Sam asked. Carly is upset she wasn't told first and worries how Elizabeth in Jason's life will affect her. Sonny asks if he's ready to come back to work for him.

Jason replies, "Sonny, I will work for you again in a limited capacity. I will organize and monitor the bodyguards and work on the books. I can't be your enforcer anymore. It is not only too dangerous for me, but I have kids and people I need to protect. I can't do that if I am in prison or dead. I will protect you and your interests as much as I can. Carly, you will always be my best friend, and I will be there when you need me, when you need me, not when you want me. Elizabeth and my kids, including Scout, Cameron, and Aiden, will come first. Do not trash Elizabeth to me ever again. She has always been important to me, and like I told you several years ago, coming home to Elizabeth and her kids would make me happy."

Carly replies, "I'm glad you are alive. I know you need your rest, so for now, I won't argue with you about Elizabeth."

Jason says, "you won't argue with me at all. There is more you need to know about Elizabeth. I don't think she will mind if I tell you since Sam already knows."

Carly yells, "Sam knows? She knew before me? Does she know everything?"

Jason replies, "Carly calm down. Yes, Sam knows everything. She needed to know because we share a son, and you may be affected because you are a Spencer." Before Carly has time to interrupt, Jason continues, "please listen. Elizabeth told me about Cameron and Josslyn and what Esme did to them. There is a reason why Esme did that and why she took Elizabeth." Jason tells Carly about Esme, Helena, and the curse on the Spencers. He explains the rest and why Esme attacked Audrey. He stresses that Elizabeth did not know until Esme had her tied up in the motel.

Carly sighs, "Elizabeth told me she thought she knew Esme from somewhere. I know enough about Helena and the Spencer curse and all the other curses she's declared. It didn't matter that she wasn't a Spencer when Cameron was born, right?"

Jason replies, "yes. Elizabeth is not to blame; Helena and Esme are. Elizabeth blames herself too much as it is. She blames herself for not knowing she had given birth to a twin. She feels awful about what happened to Joss. Don't add to that guilt. She is not responsible."

Carly relents, "I don't blame Elizabeth for Esme or what she did to Joss and Cam, but I won't give up thinking she's not good enough for you." She kisses his cheek and adds, "I'll be nice for now."

Sonny says, "Jason, I'd like to discuss your request for new arrangements. I understand you have more important things on your plate right now. Elizabeth is important to you, and you want to put her first, but I still need you. I don't trust anyone the way I trust you."

Jason replies, "I'll table this for now. I wanted you to know I was not dead; soon, everyone else will know too. I'm working with Spinelli looking for Esme. If you find her, please let me know, and don't take matters into your own hands. Despite what she has done, she is still Elizabeth's daughter."

Sonny and Carly leave.

Elizabeth and the boys have eaten dinner, and she is washing the dishes when Jason calls. "Hi, can I see you tonight? I want to see you and tell you about what happened with Carly and Sonny."

Elizabeth replies, "I want to see you too. Sam and I had a good talk. I'll ask Cam to look after the boys. I can be there in 45 minutes."

Elizabeth asks Cameron to watch Jake and Aiden because she wants to see Jason. She promises Jason wants to see him soon. Elizabeth grabs a bottle of red wine and heads out the door.

As she is driving, Elizabeth thinks back to the few times they had time to themselves over the years, and soon they won't have to hide anymore. She knocks, he opens the door, and before she can say hi, he pulls her into his arms, kisses her, then takes her purse and the wine and sets them on the counter. He carries her to the bedroom. They undress each other and make love.
