Chapter-1

Jason

Jason could hear leaves rustling as he opened his eyes. His vision was blurry and his body felt like it had just walked for 5 hours in full armor.

Yet, he strangely didn't feel the stinging pain caused by wounds.

Suddenly, his mind clicked as all the memories of recent events came flooding back.

"Lester…!" Jason exclaimed before feeling his back was pressing against something.

He felt something on his back and found himself lying against a tree bearing red fruit.

Jason's eyebrows raised as he recognized the fruit.

"A rowan tree…" Jason muttered. He remembered having put Rowan trees lining up Janus' temple in his makeshift board for all designs of the temples of minor gods.

He heard a familiar neigh and noticed Tempest looking at him.

"Tempest…" He spoke. "A-Are they safe?" He asked.

Tempest stared silently before letting out another neigh as Jason's shoulders relaxed in relief and he closed his eyes.

They're safe… Jason thought. His sacrifice wasn't in vain.

But the thing is…

"How am I alive?" Jason muttered in confusion. He knew by looking at Apo…Lester for a little longer, he had exposed his back to a fatal stab in the back by Caligula. He shouldn't be alive.

Tempest neighed as Jason turned to him.

"Hera?" He spoke. "So she saved me…"

He had conflicting feelings on Hera. While on one hand, he was thankful to her for guiding him throughout his life. Yet on the other hand, he felt conflicted on her decisions to wipe his memory and create fake ones of his and Piper's relationship that cause a strain after the Second Gigatomachia. And now, she'd sent him away from Piper.

But no matter…

"Thank you, Lady Hera." He spoke before getting up. He noticed a muddy road to his left and a forest of coniferous trees to his right.

Hera had sent him somewhere. But he didn't really know where.

He then looked down at what he had. He was in full roman armor, which explained why he was feeling so heavy, and he found a imperial gold lance and his gladius.

"Ok…This is probably going to be weird." Jason muttered. After all, if he went to a nearby town or village, they would see a teenage boy dressed like he was going to a costume party on a horse. But he had no option.

He looked at Tempest. "Alright, Buddy. Let's head south." He spoke as Tempest whinnied lowered his neck.

Jason smiled and got onto Tempest's back.

They went into the road before Tempest picked up speed as Jason rode south.

On the way, Jason started trying to find for any familiar features. However, it was just meadows and forests, with some hill ranges appearing to his right as he rode on.

Jason soon noticed a milestone and beckoned Tempest to stop.

Jason looked at the milestone, and noticed the milestone was written in what looked like japanese to him and English.

'MISTRAL – 200 kilometres'

Jason blinked.

200 kilometres…So, about 125 miles. He thought. But he did not recognize the name Mistral. The Japanese should indicate he's in Japan, but unless something happened, he's never heard of a place called Mistral in Japan.

He then noticed another name.

'ONIYURI – 20 kilometres'

20…that's close enough. I think that can be my first destination. Jason thought before spurring Tempest again as they headed for their stop of Oniyuri.

But as he rode past the fields, hills and forests, Jason started getting a bit cautious. There was something wrong.

At first, the meadows looked to be peaceful and calm to him as he passed by them. But now, he noticed they looked more eerie and silent than peaceful. As if there was something he was missing.

But Jason kept going. If he was in Japan, then maybe its gods would not like him? He didn't know. Percy did mention that he had an adventure with two Egyptian magicians and that Annabeth's cousin Magnus is a Norse demigod who has his own share of troubles in his pantheon. If the Egyptians and Norse also exist, who says the gods of Japan don't?

Jason shuddered. He didn't know what was Olympus' relationship with the other pantheons, but knowing his father's personality, he couldn't be sure it was good. So, he had to be careful in case something attacked.

Jason reached Oniyuri in the noon. Nothing had attacked him so far, so that was a sign of relief. Strangely he hadn't seen anyone since he first woke up in this place. But when he reached the town…

"What the Pluto…?" Jason spoke as he arrived, expecting to see a town bustling with people, only to find a desolate wasteland of broken buildings.

Jason tried to spot any signs of life, but he could see nothing.

Jason got even more alarmed. Just where was he? He was pretty sure the Japanese government wouldn't overlook something like a destroyed town. He should at least be seeing some people repairing the town. But no…he found nothing.

This is getting worse and worse by the second. Jason thought. He entered the city, still not seeing anything.

Tempest whinnied.

"I know." Jason replied. "I don't like it too." He spoke.

"HELLO!" He shouted. "IS THERE ANYONE HERE?!" He yelled.

But the only thing that he could hear were the echoes of his voice and the wind rustling through the broken buildings.

But Jason didn't stop. He was hungry. And if he could find someone to help him out, it would be really helpful.

Soon, Jason sighed in resignation. It didn't seem like there was anyone in this desolate town.

"Guess I'll have to make do…" Jason muttered. In situations like these, best course of action was to head into a forest and hunt for food.

"Alright. Stay here, Tempest. I'll go look for something to eat." He spoke as Tempest trotted off.

Jason left the town and headed into a nearby forest. Again, he was struck by how empty it was. There was a lack of animals, although Jason could hear distant howls and growls coming from deep into the woods, but he'll go deeper if he had no choice. As a demigod, the last thing you'd want to do is go into a dark forest alone.

Speaking of the howls, Jason noted with concern at how distorted they sounded. First of all, he was pretty sure there weren't any wolves in Japan. Second of all, the distortion in those howls made them sound more like monsters than regular wolves, which further increase Jason's wariness.

He stuck to the outskirts, wandering the forest to look for any animals. The times he did go a bit deeper, some dark miasma would invade his nose that smelt really bad, like worse than a sewer so Jason would get out.

He wandered the forest for hours before he found something. It was a deer, but its body was filled with claw marks and parts of it had been ripped off by what seemed like a bite.

Those monsters probably killed it. Jason thought before checking the deer. It wasn't rotting, which was a good sign, and it had enough meat for a meal. Jason picked up the deer's corpse and returned to Oniyuri, picking up some twigs along the way.

He could see the sun setting and went to a tree. Jason set down the deer's corpse and went about chopping up wooden beams from the broken buildings into smaller sticks for a fire. Jason put the sticks on a heap and arranged the twigs to roast the deer. Jason then stretched out a finger and sent a spark of electricity, lighting a fire and roasting the deer.

Once cooked, Jason ate the deer.

Ugh, chicken's a lot better… Jason thought as he ate. By the time he was finished, the sun had gone down and there wasn't much light remaining. Jason shuddered as the temperature dropped.

He looked through the town and found a tattered piece of cloth. Jason brought it back to the tree and sat down by the fire, draping himself in the cloak and closing his eyes to sleep.

Jason found himself in what looked like a massive hall that looked like something out of a horror movie. The ground was dark red and almost seemed like it was fluid, while purple crystals decorated the side. The table was also made of the same purple crystal and was surrounded by 6 chairs made of some bony material. At the head was a throne made of purple crystals. Outside the windows was a desolate landscape with a crimson red sky.

This is creepy… Jason thought. It all reminded him of Percy's description of Hades, although he was pretty sure there were places in Hades a lot scarier than what he was seeing as well as more lively.

Jason's attention went back to the table, where four people sat. One was a girl with short black hair covering the left side of her face wearing a red dress with golden embroidery. Another was a man with a crazed look on his face with a ponytail wearing a white jacket and pants and a scorpion tail…

Wait. Jason thought blinking. Did I see that right?

Creatures with appendages that don't really fit with them are something he was used to, but this guy, even though he was clearly mad, was a regular dude. Seeing him with a scorpion tail sort of reminded him of a manticore.

Moving on, the next was a really big man wearing a green coat. That was all there was to him.

After that, the last person was a man whose moustache and clothing were so fancy that he wouldn't be surprised if the guy came from a Steampunk film.

Even with all their weird looks, they were all normal people. However, the one sitting on the throne…

She is 100% a monster. Jason thought. They looked like a woman, and that was it. After that, all of her features were monstrous. Skin and hair pale enough to match a ghost, black eyes with red irises and veins branching out across her face.

"Despite your failure, Cinder, you did kill Ozpin. That gives us a bit of breathing room until his next incarnation arrives." The monstrous woman told the girl, who grimaced.

"However, I felt something strange today." Salem spoke. "I detected a massive wave of energy in Mistral that surpasses anything Remnant has ever recorded in its history."

The steampunk dude frowned. "A massive wave of energy? How much?"

"It was magical in nature, from its brief presence, most likely a spell. But this spell in its short duration emanated more magical energy than all of the relics combined."

Jason tilted his head in confusion. He could not understand what exactly was going on, but he'll hold onto that information. Although…the 'wave of energy' being talked about is most likely Hera's power.

Cinder's eyes widened. "What?!" She exclaimed before the monster's eyes flicked towards her and she muttered an apology.

"Do not interrupt me like that, Cinder." The monster spoke. "But…your surprise is well-founded. I myself found it hard to believe something like this could happen. But rest assured, an investigation is in order. Tyrian."

The crazy scorpion guy looked up with a grin. "Yes, my goddess?" He asked.

"After you have captured the hybrid, go and look into this. I will provide you with the materials to decode whatever happened in Mistral."

The scorpion guy bowed. "I would be honoured." He spoke chuckling before the dream shifted.

Jason now found himself in a more familiar place, even if he had never been there before.

Hades sat on his onyx throne of bones, looking towards what Jason assumed was one of the furies.

Jason then saw complete darkness before the throne room came back.

What the… Jason thought. He knew that demigod dreams allowed him to see things happening away from his location, whether in the future, the past or the present, but never had he ever seen a dream blink out of existence and come back.

"Ha…e you c…ked th...eas?" Hades asked with a look of anger in his eyes, although his voice was cutting out.

"Yes….ord…nowhe….ound…coul….Poseidon…wrath." The fury replied as Hades continued to stare in anger before turning back.

"Jason…die…one…saved him." He spoke, the dream continuing to blink in and out of existence. "…Ery…well. I'll go….lympus." He spoke before his eyes widened and stared directly at Jason before his face erupted in a sneer.

"Oh shit-!" Jason exclaimed as Hades' hand stretched out to grab at him, The last thing Jason heard was those same distorted howls before his world went black.

Jason opened his eyes to see that the fire was out, so his entire surroundings were pitch black. In the darkness, Jason saw glowing red eyes staring at him.

"Oh…" Jason spoke. He was caught in a really, really bad situation. Alone in the dark, unable to see almost anything in front of him except for monsters that had clearly surrounded him.

He closed his eyes and felt a tingle in his body before it was wreathed in lightning. The lightning lit up his surroundings and Jason got a better look of the monsters.

They were massive wolves with black fur and white bony masks on their faces. Their red eyes stared at Jason with a bloodlust reminiscent of other monsters.

As soon as he used his powers, the wolves roared and charged at him. Jason pulled out his spear and swept it around him to ward them away. However, the wolves did not stop and his sweep cut off one's head. Jason wasn't expecting them to keep charging and one of the wolves' claws got him.

Jason fell back and noticed one monster go for his arm. Jason quickly thrust his spear forward and impaled the wolf in the mouth before rolling back to move away from the wolves.

So they want to kill me so bad they don't care if they die. Jason thought with a grimace.

"That's bad." He spoke. He was lucky he was wearing armor, and clearly one durable enough to withstand hits from those monsters. Otherwise he would have got a nasty cut.

The monsters charged in and Jason swept his spear in a more controlled manner, cutting down three wolves before twirling it to block the following attack off another wolf and quickly impaling it.

Jason spotted another coming from the side and his right leg shot out, kicking the wolf back before Jason pulled his spear out of the other one and throwing it at the stunned wolf, piercing its head through the eyes.

Jason pulled out his gladius and sidestepped a slash from a wolf before stabbing it through its jaw. Jason moved behind its corpse as another wolf's claw dug into it. The wolf dissolved into black dust and Jason swung his gladius to cut down the other one.

Jason quickly headed over to his spear and picked it up, just as when another wolf almost bit his head off. Jason ducked and skewered the wolf through the chest before something even bigger charged at him.

This time, the monster was more like a large bear. It swung its claw down on Jason and he rolled away, the monster's claw cracking the ground with its force. Jason took this opportunity to stab at its stomach, although the bear didn't die and fell to its side. Jason's eyes widened as he pulled out his gladius and stabbed down at the bear's neck before it could recover, killing it.

Jason looked around to see there were still more wolves and more bears coming up. Jason pursed his lips before twirling his spear with lightning arcing through it and swinging to send a wave of lightning that tore through the monsters.

Jason began using more of his powers, as his lightning cut down more and more of those monsters. Still, there were more coming.

"Okay…there's way too many." Jason spoke. If he kept going the way he did, he would soon be overwhelmed. The only way to get out would be with his powers, but the amount of power he was going to discharge will definitely destroy whatever remained of Oniyuri and attract attention.

Jason tried to think of alternatives, but out of all of them, using his powers seemed to be the only viable option.

Jason sighed before he flew into the air, his eyes scanning the amount of monsters remaining before raising his hand that sparked with lightning. Jason focused as his body started tingling more than usual.

The monster's red eyes glowed before Jason brought down his hand and a large bolt of lightning shot from it.

When it hit the ground, it vaporized whatever remained of those monsters along with a shockwave that sent rumbles across the ground. The lightning split into branches of electrcitiy travelling across the town and vaporizing any more monsters coming up. Buildings were demolished by those arcs of lightning and fires erupted across the twon.

Jason slowly descended down with his breath winded as he looked at the burning ruins of Oniyuri. Before, it had been desolate but with many buildings still remaining standing. But now, even those buildings had fallen apart. Whoever came to Oniyuri will only find a burning wreckage.

Jason would never dream of doing what he did just now if there were people living here. Even if Percy is stronger than him, Jason is no slouch when it came to causing destruction on a massive scale. Mount Diablo is a testimony to that.

Jason called for Tempest, who looked in confusion at the fires around them.

"Got into a little fight with monsters. Let's get out before more arrive." Jason spoke getting onto Tempest. He kept the cloak on himself and looked back at the now destroyed tree.

Jason quickly beckoned Tempest to go and the two rode out of Oniyuri. Jason spotted some of those monsters chasing them, but Tempest only increased his speed and soon left those monsters behind.

Jason felt a chill down his spine as he heard those distorted howls echoing from Oniyuri. Fighting those monsters…Jason could tell there was something seriously wrong with this place. It felt like he was missing something crucial, but he didn't know what it was.

What were those monsters? Jason thought as the sun broke through the horizon. He'd been pondering about all that had happened as he rode south.

First of all, the monstrous woman. The woman's demeanor brought up memories of the witch Medea. If she was anything like her, then Jason was not going to like it when he meets her.

Next, those four people seemed like her underlings. And the scorpion dude had been sent to look for him. Well, not look for him, but see what Hera's done.

After that, the dream about Hades. Even though the dream was malfunctioning for some reason, Jason could tell that Hades wanted him. Considering he was going to die, Jason was sure Hades was mad that Hera saved him, or 'stole his soul' if he was willing to guess.

Hades' rage could somewhat explain the monsters he fought. Their bodies had an aura of cold and darkness that resembled Nico's aura when he got mad. And they seemed to be determined to kill him, even making irrational decisions like charging into his strikes without any sense of caution.

Jason could conclude that these monsters were probably sent by Hades to get back what Hera took from him.

It all explained his battle so well…

"Yet why do I not feel like this is true?" Jason spoke with a frown. Those monsters showed clear bloodlust, yet something about it felt more alien than familiar. The monsters also turned into black dust, not golden like other monsters do.

Jason and Tempest followed the road into a forest, which wasn't very dense so Jason continued. He soon came onto a clearing.

Jason then noticed something and beckoned Tempest to stop. The spirit did so and Jason got down to see footprints on the road leading into the forests.

People… Jason thought.

"People have been here." Jason spoke in relief.

"Exactly, pal. People who have been waiting for you." A voice spoke as Jason turned around to notice a guy with dirty blonde hair stretching down to his shoulders grinning at him. He was with other people who wore red clothing that looked like a mix of Japanese and European. They carried swords and guns. From the way they dressed, Jason could tell they were bandits.

There's my bad luck. Jason thought. The first people he had to meet were of course bandits. The strange part was that they did not look remotely Japanese.

Am I even on Earth? Jason thought seeing all the confusing details in front of him.

"Interesting horse you got there. Looks like its made of clouds or something." The leader spoke as Jason's eyes widened. They can see Tempest for how he is?

Tempest whinnied as Jason blinked. Why isn't the mist hiding Tempest? Are they humans or something else entirely?

"So, you know who we are…"

"As a matter of fact, I don't. Are you a biker gang?" Jason asked as the man blinked.

"What? No! What do you mean a biker gang? You think we Branwens are some sort of small fry lurking in little towns and stuff?"

"You look like it." Jason spoke shrugging as his eyes darted around to see what his enemies were capable of.

Branwen…Branwen…I don't think I've ever heard of people like that, although Branwen is a name of Celtic origins. Jason thought.

"See, boss? Even the dude wearing armor like some sort of knight agrees we look like bikers." One of the men spoke.

"Shut up, Dawson!" The leader snapped. "Alright, enough talk." He snarled as Jason looked at them before a very bad idea sprung onto his mind.

They were bandits, and coming with them probably won't end well, but with how little people he's seen, who knows how long it will be before Jason can find someone else? He can get some idea of where in Hades he'd found himself with these guys.

Jason raised his hands. "Fine, I surrender."

"Alright, you wanna…wait, what?" The guy spoke as the others lowered their guns in confusion.

"I surrender." Jason repeated. "Take me to whatever camp you guys got."

The leader narrowed his eyes to look at Jason. "I don't trust it." He spoke as Jason put away his spear and gladius, stamping down his concern at the hungry look on the faces of the bandits at his imperial gold weaponry.

"Ho, lightning pony, gold weapons, you're one interesting fella. I think the boss lady's going to be interested in you." The leader spoke before gesturing for Jason to follow him. "Keep your guns trained on him. If he tries anything, blow his brains out."

"And you...you better hope this isn't a trap." He spoke as Jason smiled softly and shrugged.

"Wouldn't dream of it."

A/N: And here we go! Rowan's Shade begins! Sorry for not uploading in the weekend. I was out on a trip and forgot to inform those reading this story about it. At least the trip allowed me to get a better grip on how I'll handle Jason in this story as well as spawn some great ideas to use for Soulless Plains when I get back into it.

In the chapter now, I'm actually going to try to highlight the slight dystopian features of Remnant, hence the emphasis on the desolation of Oniyuri. As for the Rowan tree, there's a reason I put the tree Jason wakes up under as a Rowan Tree. Although I'm not going to say why.

I had to read the Lightning Thief again so that I could find if there is a full description on Hades' throne room for the dream sequence. As for those sequences, Jason hasn't really figured out he's in a different world. I can tell you Jason is suspicious that something is not right, but he still needs some confirmation from what his future interaction with the Branwen tribe will bring him.

Coming to the fight sequence, I had this idea of applying the 'sensation of using power' to Jason. If for Percy its a tug in the gut, why not make it a tingle for Jason as a sign of electricity coming up? Also, it was fun writing Jason obliterating Oniyuri to wipe out the grimm. Its just to give a little glimpse on where Jason is going to stand. Its going to be a struggle in the beginning to not make him a Gary Stu who steamrolls through everything, but I'm hoping I can pull it off.

Hope you guys enjoyed and constructive criticism is appreciated!

Response to reviews:

Neo-Charlemagne: Yeah, this story is meant to be short. As great as the Vale arc is, it hiding the stuff about Salem makes it really disconnected from later volumes. Heck, even Volume-4's beginning can be modified to become RWBY's beginning. Ruby never goes to Beacon, hears about its fall and the state Yang comes back under, meets JNR and once learning from Qrow about the perpretrators, Ruby sets out to save the world along with JNR. Boom. RWBY begins, although it won't really be RWBY. Henceforth, I decided not to put Jason in volume-1 because of how long it'll take to finally get into the front lines of fighting Salem as well as how much it will conflict with this story's themes.

Guest: Thank you. Perks of being a fan of mythology and the fateverse is that you develop a sense of making up interesting bullshit and putting it on display to attract readers for a story.

Creativenameok: This idea spawned because I read an abandoned fic of Greed720 that has Jason reincarnate as Jaune. This will probably be my only story where Jason is the main character.
