"What are you?" Zach asks.
"Oh um…. I'm a witch," I say hesitantly.
"Like magic witch?" He asks.
"Yes, like magic witch." I say. "Come back to my place and I shall explain."
"Alright," he says. He doesn't have much of a choice. I lead him through the forest to my place. We head to the living room.
"Enzo!" I call out.
"Yeah?" he replies.
"Go to the Salvatore boarding house. Damon's waiting for you. Bring blood bags." I say.
"Thanks," he replies. I hear him racing around as Zach and I sit.
"Are Enzo and Godric witches?" He asks.
"I'm like you to keep in mind that I just saved your life and Enzo is going to go try and talk sense into Damon." I reply.
"Yeah, I remember." He says confused.
"They aren't they are vampire." I say.
"You keep company with vampires?" He asks shocked and outraged.
"I do. My husband is an original and their sire. We are a lot stricter in my husband's line then the one that Damon and Stefan belong to." I explain.
"Which line do they belong to?" He asks. "Do you even know?"
"I do know, but I will keep that to myself for a little while longer." I say.
"Alright, I can respect that. So how did you become a witch?" He asks curiously.
"I was born this way." I say.
"When were you born?" He asks.
"Over 1,000 years ago." I reply.
"You said your husband is an original vampire. Why would you marry a vampire?"
"I didn't. I married a Viking that was in training to do magic. He was turned into a vampire by his mother after his younger brother died." I explain.
"Where is he now?" He asks looking around him.
"Not in town, if that's what your wondering."
"Why isn't he with you?"
"It's not for lack of wanting to be here. It's because he physically can't."
"I'm not understanding." He says confused.
"That's all I can say about the matter." I reply with. "I do have my own questions."
"Alright, I'll try to answer it." He says.
"How does the counsel know about vampires and what is the Gilbert compass?" I asks.
"That's only two questions." He says chuckling.
"Okay, I have two questions then." I say a mending my statement.
"The counsel never forgot in 1864 there was a tomb made for the vampires under the church. Emily Bennett made it. The counsel rounded up all the vampires and put them in there. As for the Gilbert compass it points in the direction of a vampire. I don't know how it works though." Zach tells me.
"I'm surprised you told me this of your own free will." I say.
"Well, you not only saved my life, but you have also been honest with me. Least I can do is be honest back," he says.
"Well, thank you for that. I do recommend moving out of town. You can stay here till you can move if you would like," I offer.
"Thank you. That's way too kind," he says.
"It is no issue. I can after set you up at a hotel. You will have to deal with the supernatural, but it is a safe spot for everyone." I say.
"I guess being alive as long as you have been, has its perks. You would make lots of connections," he says. I laugh.
"No, I made the hotel chain as a safe spot for the supernatural. Where they can stay and not get hunted or hurt. That also extends to and human guests as well," I explain.
"I guess that makes sense." He says.
"Well, let's make you some lunch and get you settled into a room." I say getting up.
I prep lunch and feed us both. I leave him there giving him the off-limits areas. I run around the house getting stuff done. Just random chores that need to get done. Enzo comes home and so does Godric. We all do our own thing to end the night.
We have a notebook and a pen that we leave in the living room, so everyone is caught up. It's just habit for us to check it when we get home now. The next morning, I got my head over the water bowl again in the living room, when Zach comes down.
"What are you doing?" He asks.
"Watching, learning." I say. He comes over and watches with me.
Its Logan and Liz in the cemetery looking at charred bodies on the ground.
"Never smelled one this bad before." Logan says.
"It tried to cover its tracks." Liz says.
"Are you sure?" Logan asks.
"I'm positive. You only burn a corpse to try to hide cause of death, and there are no shell casings," Liz explains. How does she know they weren't burned to death while drugged?
"We know who they are?" Logan asks.
"Doc'll have to check their dental records." Says Liz.
"What story should I run?" Logan Fell asks.
"Drug deal gone bad. It's not too big a stretch." Liz offers.
"I got the Gilbert watch," Logan tells her. Looks like we will have to get it off him to give back to Jeremy.
"Good," Liz replies.
"Found this in the brush about 10 yards away," A deputy hands a wallet to Liz.
Liz opens the wallet and pulls out the ID card. "Vicki Donovan." Liz reads out loud.
"Do you know her?" Logan asks.
"I went to high school with her mother." Liz answers.
"Think she's one of these?" Logan questions.
"I hope not." Liz sighs
I look at Zach and he looks at me.
"Is this how you know the goings on in the town?" He asks.
"If I have met you, yes. I can pull up where you are, what you are doing or who you are speaking to. It helps me know if we are in danger." I reply. "So now we know Logan has the Gilbert watch."
"He does? I guess they would never need that now." Zach tells me.
"It also helps me keep an eye out seeing if they know who the vampires are," I say.
"Do you know who's doing the killing?" He asks me.
"If I had to hazard a guess, I would guess Damon. That's why he was in your cellar, yes?" I ask rhetorically. "But why not just kill him?"
"Stefan. He didn't want to." Zach says. "Why did you go save him?"
"He was friends with Enzo long before you were born. Enzo and he were experimented on in a medical capacity. They were able to develop a bond that no one but them would understand," I explain.
"Really?" Zach asks shocked,
"Yes, Enzo was there longer then Damon, but they are both probably a little messed up from it." I say with a sigh. I look back in the water bowl and see Liz at the Lockwood house.
"We're working on it, Mayor Lockwood." Liz says.
"Did you ID the bodies?" Mayor Lockwood asks.
"A few townies. Notorious druggies," Liz says.
"I suppose that'll make it easy for people to buy the story. And Vicki Donovan?" Mayor asks.
"She's not one of the deceased," Liz says.
"Where the hell is she?" Mayor Lockwood asks her.
"I wish I knew," Liz says with a sigh.
"Sorry, I'm late." Logan says walking into the room.
"You have the watch?" Mayor asks Logan. Logan hands it over. Mayor removes the face and add a new piece. "It's ready."
"That's it?" Logan asks.
"Yes, that's it." Mayor says.
"Where is Vicki, anyway?" Zach asks me.
"I wouldn't know," I say. Enzo walks in.
"Hey, can you check on Damon, if you already using the bowl?" Enzo asks me as he passes.
"I guess I can." I jokingly sigh.
I look at Zach to see his reaction to see if he will be bothered by seeing the man who almost killed him. He doesn't seem bothered so I wave my hand over the bowl of water. Liz's scene fades out and the scene at the Salvatore house fades in. I see Damon dancing with Vicki.
"I found Vicki." I say to Zach.
"I am so over Tyler, so over him. I knew from the beginning that I was only a piece of ass to him, but I thought maybe if he got to know me better, he might see something more. But no. Now, Jeremy on the other hand, that's all he's ever seen in me is something more, and I like that." Vicki drowns on clearly drunk.
"Jeremy, huh? Elena's brother?" Damon asks gathering information.
"Yeah, yeah so, Elena used to date my brother, and they were always together, so Jeremy would always be hanging around and crushing on me and… Hey, why don't you have a girlfriend? You're, like, totally cool and so hot," Vicki says.
"I know," Damon replies cocky as always.
"Don't you want to be in love?" Vicki asks.
"I've been in love. It's painful and pointless and overrated." Damon says.
"Except when it isn't," Vicki says.
"No more talking, let's dance." Damon says.
They dance for a while longer. I look up and see the guys all watching in the bowl with me. Seems like a family movie. I giggle to myself thinking about that. Damon and Vicki are back to slow dancing, so I go back to watching the bowl more closely, knowing they will go back to talking.
"My mom spends most of her time in Virginia Beach with Pete. He drives trucks. I don't remember my dad, but from what I gather, he's not worth remembering." Vicki tells Damon.
"Your life is so pathetic," Damon says to her. That's a nice thing to tell a lady, Damon, jeese.
"Yeah, I mean, I'm the screwed up one. Matts got it so easy. He's the golden boy. I mean, he's gonna get a football scholarship and marry Elena and have a lawn mower and some babies, and when I think of my future, I just come up blank," Vicki says with her head on Damon's shoulder.
"You are so damaged," Damon says.
"Yup," Vicki says.
"Something bad is going to happen," I say. Enzo and Godric both take off at vampire speed. I close the door behind them.
"Where are they going?" Zach asks.
"Your place," I reply while praying they get there in time.
"I mean, you don't have one hint of self-esteem," Damon says.
"Nope, none," she says not realizing the danger she is in. She if just wallowing in her misery.
"I think, I know what can help you." Damon says.
"So, what's that?" Vicki asks cluelessly.
"Death," Damon says snapping her neck. Enzo and Godric burst into the door just as he drops her.
"Please invite them in, Zach." I say looking at him,
"Will it work from here?" He asks.
"Yes, it does." I reply. "You have to say their names though."
"Enzo, Godric, you can come in." Zach says.
Godric feels the barrier fall, as he is older. Enzo follows his lead and they both run in, seeing Vicki on the ground.
"She's in transition." Damon says, taking a drink of bourbon, acting like he did nothing wrong.
"Because. That's loads better." Enzo says sarcastically. Saying what we are all thinking.
"You turned an addict," Godric says to Damon.
"We have had some luck training addicts to be successful vamps, but it takes a lot of work and time. They also have to want it, always. If they ever don't want it, we will have to send a hunter after them." I tell Zach. "I think I'm going to have you move to the hotel, today. I believe we will have a new vampire here, making it unsafe for you."
"You sure?" He asks.
"Yes, I would rather be safe then sorry," I reply.
"Alright, where will I go?" He asks concerned.
"I will have someone drive you to the nearest airport. You will have a plane ticket to New York waiting for you. After toy will have a ride to the Hotel. You can stay there as long as you would like. You will also have Godric's number. That won't change. Don't hesitate to call me if you need anything." I tell him. Vicki starts to wake up. "Can I borrow your phone?"
"Sure," he says handing me his phone.
I start texting out orders and quickly purchase what is needed. We have a code sent to the vampires, that way they know it's me or someone sent from me. I call Godric.
"Hello," Godric says.
"Hey, this is Zach's phone. Can you gather some of his more precious items and pack them?" I ask.
"Sure, put him on the phone." Godric says.
I hand the phone and Zach leads him to the things he wants to keep using the water bowl to help guide him. I set up another bowl for Zach following Godric. I go back to the first bowl to watch Damon and Vicki again. Vicki looks at Damon and then Enzo, then back at Damon in confusion.
"What happened? We were dancing and then…" Vicki trails off not knowing what happened.
"Then I killed you." Damon says bluntly. That's usually the best way. But I still smack my forehead with my hand, he could have said it a little more gracefully.
"What?" Vicki asks confused.
"Love, you are in transition. You need to drink human blood to complete the transition," Enzo says. Trying to get the information to her before she freaks out.
"Your wasted," Vicki says to Enzo.
He looks a little put out and he gets quiet. This will be his first time dealing with an addict. Normally it would only be just Godric and me. Vicki gets up and tries to leave. Damon is standing in her way.
"Yeah, well, let's not make this a big deal of it. you drank my blood, I killed you, and now you have to feed in order to complete the process." Damon inputs callously.
"Come on, move." Vicki says holding her head and stumbling a little.
"You're gonna start craving blood and until you get it, you're gonna feel very out of it. You have to be careful." Damon tells her.
"Move." She tells him. She does not look good at all.
"See? You're already starting to fall apart," Damon taunts. Enzo touches Damon's arm and shakes his head.
"And I'm going home now." Vicki says.
"Okay, fine, I'm just warning you. Actually, you know what? You should go. In fact, if I were you, I would stop by at your boyfriend Jeremy's house." Damon says trying to pull something.
"I wouldn't you will kill him." Godric inputs coming back into the room holding a large suitcase.
"Yeah, whatever." Vicki says leaving.
"Bye, tell Elena I said hi and if you see Stefan, tell him to call me," Damon says. Enzo smacks him.
"Drop this off at the house and keep your cell phone on." Godric tells Enzo, Enzo nods agreeing. Godric then breezes out of the house following Vicki. I really hope she doesn't go see Jeremy, but if she is in love with him she will.
