I am eternally grateful to Major Houlihan and Father Mulchay. Not only did they believe my story about my mother and how badly I wanted to leave the war early to see her before she was deported back to Holland, but I'm even more grateful that they told Captain Pierce-the one they called Hawkeye. If it weren't for him and Captain Hunnicutt, my mother never would have been hired by the Dutch Consul General as a secretary. Now she will be in San Francisco when I come home. They have no idea how much this means to me.
