welcome to the first chapter of my 'Xiaolin Showdown' fanfiction originally from the mind of a fellow blogger on here under the penname of CommonKnowledge. their fanfiction was titled 'Into the Rush', while mine has a slightly longer title, 'Raimundo Pedrosa and Kimiko Tohomiko's 'Into the Rush Now''. I know that using someone else's work for source material is not that creative, but I had kinda been running a little low on creativity when I had first started writing then blogging this fanfiction. I was desperate. oh well. I do at least make an effort to mention the original blogger within this fanfiction, just like I do with all of my other fanfictions which had taken source material from other fanfictions. hey, at least I not only admit to it, but I also give the original blogger of the storyline of my fanfictions the credit where it's due. this fourteenth chapter of my 'Xiaolin Showdown' fanfiction inspired by CommonKnowledge's original work is a whopping two-thousand-one-hundred-sixty words of storyline long, a storyline that doesn't include this here headnote or the disclaimer that makes up the following paragraph.
disclamation: I don't own either the gem that was 'Xiaolin Showdown' or its sucky excuse for a reboot that was 'Xiaolin Chronicles'. both series are owned solely by Christy Hui in terms of creation. I know, just like the Fountain of Hui shen gong wu. if I were a gambler, I'd wager that she named that particular shen gong wu after herself. the ownership rights of 'Xiaolin Showdown' in terms of production are reserved for the Warner Brothers Studios, while the ownership rights of the trainwreck that was 'Xiaolin Chronicles' in its own productional terms are reserved for DisneyXD. most of this fanfiction is not even my own work. it was originally done by someone else on this site under the penname of CommonKnowledge, but he/she abandoned their own fanfiction. I'm beginning to wonder if the person behind the penname is even still breathing. anyway, I only wrote this fanfiction up because I wanted to continue their work for them if they were just never gonna finish their own fanfiction. at least, I admit to that sort of thing.
Raimundo just could not help but inhale Kimiko's scent as she leant closer to him if only to get a better look at the article he had pulled up for the two of them to look at by then. The slightly young Brazilian near instantly recognized the girl's scent as a special kind of perfume made from a flower that his grandmother had always enjoyed so much.
Raimundo Pedrosa's brain: Casablanca. Such a beautiful, and ironically old timey scent for a girl of our day and age to wear on her body.
Kimiko went on and read the article, never once knowing just what intriguingly lecherous thoughts went through her partner, Raimundo's, head as she read.
Kimiko 'Tomye': Two years ago, two people were killed in a sniper style. Curiously, police couldn't find one common link between the two who were killed.
Luckily for the Raimundo, as Kimiko read the article, it was suddenly just enough to wake his thoughts up and snap him out of the trance under which he seemed to be at the scent of his newest partner's own perfume.
Raimundo Pedrosa's brain: No! No, no, no, no, no, Pedrosa! Get those kinds of thoughts about this random girl outta yer head, dude! For all you know about this Kimiko chick, she's either a spy for your enemies who's only pretending to be on your side, a lazy girl who's only pretending to care about your kid sister as much as she cares about her father's, or worse still, she's probably even, dare I say it, in a relationship.
The possibility of Kimiko unwittingly making a homewrecker out him was the thought in his head that had scared Raimundo most of all. The worst part of the very idea of it all was that it would have been all his fault he could have possibly been made into a homewrecker instead of hers as she had not even done anything to him really. The saddest part of all was that every last bit of it was all true. the Brazilian was the one who became instantly infatuated with a girl he had only met that day. Raimundo could have easily sworn that he had a lot better judgement than that, as he was smarter than that and was above every last bit of it as a result.
Perhaps Kimiko had never meant to cloud his judgement toward her any more than she had known of it, herself. Raimundo had to admit it, though; the girl certainly did a good job at causing her own game partner to go totally stupid in the head. The slightly young Brazilian former officer of the International Police certainly did not expect to gain a crush on his own partner for the game into which the two of them were both drafted as the sole participants for the sake of her father's and his kid sister's survival from their abductions at the hands of the masterminds behind said dangerous game.
That was the last straw; Raimundo needed to get his focus back onto the matter at hand for both him and Kimiko, which was the lives of their loved ones on the line. She was saying something to him. The Brazilian turned New Yorker really needed to get out of his own head and back into what this girl was reading from the article at the time.
Kimiko 'Tomye': Raimundo, you still with me? Hello! Anybody home?
Raimundo Pedrosa: Yeah, I'm still with you. It's not like I meant with you, with you. I just kinda zoned out into my own head for a second or two there, but I promise you that I will stay completely focused on what you're saying going forward. I did kinda get lost in my own head after you told me that the police in Hong Kong couldn't find one common link between the two who were killed.
Kimiko sighed, though not exactly in exasperation toward her partner, Raimundo. It was more of a sigh that she did not like what she was going to have to repeat to him. At least, he had stayed with her longer than she thought he had. It was still not enough, however, to ease the feeling of dread that came with what she suddenly needed to repeat to her own partner for the game into which the two of them were both drafted.
Kimiko 'Tomye': What I said at the most likely time of which you'd zoned into your own head was that the only common link the police could find between the two individuals who were killed in Hong Kong was that the two of them were both participating in a sort of game that was just like…
Kimiko gulped hard as she prepared for what she was about to tell Raimundo next.
Kimiko 'Tomye' (continued): … scavenger hunt.
Raimundo suddenly let out quite a heavy breath that he did not even realize he was holding in.
Raimundo Pedrosa: You know, it pretty much seems to me like we really do have a hunter of some kind tailing our backs.
By then, it was Kimiko's turn to let out a heavy breath before she began to feel more determined to solve the case of whomever it was that had the nerve to kidnap her father and his kid sister.
Kimiko 'Tomye': I really think that we should get to work on solving this first clue, then.
Raimundo suddenly felt the need to correct Kimiko on what she had called the clue before them in the game that lay ahead of them.
Raimundo Pedrosa: Starter clue. I still believe this clue is just a starter clue that'll lead us to the first clue for the scavenger hunt. It's also the signal for the start of this game that the two of us have been drafted into playing for your father and my kid sister's survivals, not to mention our own survivals.
Kimiko only pursed her lips at Raimundo's continuous insistence of their first clue actually being a starter clue.
Kimiko 'Tomye': This thing started the minute whoever it was first went after my father.
Kimiko narrowed her eyes at Raimundo as she spoke to her partner for the game into which they had both been drafted for the sake of their loved ones' survival. He just nodded at her as he responded.
Raimundo Pedrosa: Agreed. Either way, we need to get going on this.
Raimundo tapped at the sheet of paper which was currently on his friend's coffee table near the couch on which he and his partner for the game were sitting at the time. Kimiko, herself, nodded but did nothing else.
Raimundo Pedrosa (continued): So?
Kimiko looked at Raimundo irritably as she snapped back at him.
Kimiko 'Tomye': So, what?
Raimundo only held up his hands in defense.
Raimundo Pedrosa: Calm down, girl, will ya? I just wanted to know what you thought about the clue and what it could possibly mean.
Kimiko 'Tomye': I already told you that I'm no good at stuff like this.
Raimundo prodded Kimiko along.
Raimundo Pedrosa: Come on. You can do it. You just gotta calmly think it through.
Kimiko, however, only approached her partner in the matter at hand, Raimundo's, encouragement with sarcasm.
Kimiko 'Tomye': If you're so into this, why don't you think it through?
Raimundo just responded to the sarcasm from his own partner, Kimiko, for the game into which they were both drafted with a smug grin on his face.
Raimundo Pedrosa: I know, girl. I'm workin' on it. Let's just start with taking this starter clue apart piece by piece.
Kimiko 'Tomye': OK. Fine then. We'll just take the clue apart piece by piece. First line; A pleasant greeting.
Raimundo responded to what Kimiko said with a slight hint of sarcasm decorating his voice by then.
Raimundo Pedrosa: Obviously.
Kimiko narrowed her eyes at Raimundo when next she spoke to her partner for the game into which they had both been drafted.
Kimiko 'Tomye': The second line is written kinda oddly, though.
Raimundo Pedrosa: How so?
Kimiko 'Tomye': Well, just look here.
Kimiko then pointed to two words on the sheet of paper.
Kimiko 'Tomye': 'On' and 'Line' are capitalized in odd places.
Raimundo Pedrosa: Good eyes.
Raimundo's comment to Kimiko earned him a grin from the girl with him in his New Yorker friend's apartment. She never knew it, but the Brazilian turned New Yorker held a secret thought or two toward her that was more than just professional.
Raimundo Pedrosa's brain: Really good eyes.
That was when Raimundo realized that he had once again managed to drift his focus from his own kid sister to Kimiko, the girl who caught his attention the minute she had first entered his life.
Raimundo Pedrosa's brain (continued): No, no, no. Bad game partner. Bad. Keep your focus on the game, not the girl. You don't have the time to daydream, dude. You can't afford to daydream, either. This chica's more than just outta your league, anyway. She's the farthest outta your league that'll ever be.
Granted that it was the first time in a while since he got completely distracted by his own partner for the game into which the two of them had both been drafted, but he had still found it to be really very distracting, nonetheless. The Brazilian actually had to slap himself in the real world in order to escape his own lecherous thoughts that time.
Kimiko only grew alarmed after her partner, Raimundo, had up and slapped himself upside the head in reality for the first time since the two of them had both met. The girl was even concerned for her own partner when he had hit himself once again.
Kimiko 'Tomye': Are you alright, Raimundo? You hit yourself in the head once again.
Raimundo knew why he had slapped himself upside the head, he just was not yet ready to tell Kimiko why he kept on doing such a thing to himself.
Raimundo Pedrosa: I just haven't been able to pay attention to this game much as of late. I only punched myself in the face and slapped myself upside the head to get back to my senses for this deadly game we're both a part of.
It was the slight truth. Once again, however, it was not the complete truth about why Raimundo had kept hitting himself in the face every time he looked back in his own partner, Kimiko's direction. He had even needed the girl in his New Yorker friend's apartment to tell him once again just what it was she had just told him at the time.
Raimundo Pedrosa (continued): Um, would you mind telling me what it was that you told me before I'd spaced out yet again?
Kimiko actually did sigh in exasperation at her own partner, Raimundo's, lack of focus on the task at hand for both of them.
Kimiko 'Tomye': As I told you before; one of my jobs throughout my entire life in college was editing the paper assignments of others. I got real good at noticing stuff like this during then.
Raimundo up and surprised his scavenger hunt partner, Kimiko, with his question following the girl's mention of her college job.
Raimundo Pedrosa: Just a little curious, but are you still in college by right now any chance?
Kimiko 'Tomye': Not exactly. First year grad student. That's what I am right now. Why do you suddenly wanna know?
Raimundo knew his reason for asking his scavenger hunt partner, Kimiko, if she were still in college by then. The Brazilian was just too embarrassed to tell the girl in the room with him at the time the reasons why he wanted to know more about her.
Raimundo Pedrosa: Like I said, no real reason other than curiosity. We're kind getting off topic here, though. I think you might be right about the words 'On' and 'Line'. They really draw this starter clue's focus onto them both.
Kimiko 'Tomye': For one reason or another, it's sorta like the word in between those two words doesn't even matter at all. Not to mention that when combined into one word, the two words 'On' and 'Line' make up the word 'online', as in the internet.
Kimiko, of course, felt very proud of the way in which she had solved the clue that both her and Raimundo needed to solve just to start on their scavenger hunt of a dangerous game. It was a feeling that did not last very long as he suddenly felt the need to do something stupid with her.
