Ch.25: School Days Part 1
There are different ways to be woken up. Sometimes one is awoken by the sweet melody of an alarm. Other times, a partner shakes them awake. Or on this first day of school, Pinkie sneaking into my room. The time was 6:20 in the morning. Grinning, she raised a knife to a red balloon, popping it.
Naturally, the sound had its desired effect, as I yelped, falling off the bed. Pinkie laughed uproariously as I stared up at her, unamused.
"Ugh...Pinkiemena" her mother said warningly. Cloudy was already up for an early day, but that sound is quite annoying that early. Pinkie retreated, as I could only laugh.
My shower and such soon done, I joined Igneous and Pinkie at the table. Marble was being sent off by Cloudy on the school bus. I quietly had a bowl of Fruit Loops, Igneous wishing us well on the day.
As Pinkie and I went to leave, he could only smile.
All's well that ends better, he supposed.
Arriving at the school at 7:25, 35 minutes before first class, we mingled with Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash for a time. Twilight had gotten to class early, one of three AP courses she was taking that semester.
As we chatted, I soon felt arms around me. "Morning handsome" Aria cooed in my ear. I grinned, turning around, and dipping her down, kissing her. Rainbow Dash whooped, and Adagio grinned, as Pinkie's boyfriend came over to greet her.
Afterwards, we headed on upstairs to the Home Economics classroom. Eight rows of workspaces were set up, with two chairs at each. At the top of each workspace was an attached cutting board, and two burners. Before long, numerous students entered, nobody that I knew, however.
Granny Smith was an incredible teacher from the start. Combining a love for the culinary along with explaining things in a way many could understand, I knew this class would be amazing.
Psychology gave me the same feeling. Dr. Lighthouse was an incredible teacher that I would have the following year as well.
Truly though, the best was yet to come.
In my Civics class, I would know four students- Lyra, Flash Sentry, Rarity, and Sunset Shimmer. We all sat chatting amongst ourselves when the door opened. In walked a white colored human who looked like Teddy Roosevelt, spectacles, and all. The class snapped to attention.
"At ease" the teacher smiled. "I know some of you from previous classes. My name, for those of you that have not met me, is Experienced Leader. I have been a part of this cities leadership since I was seventeen. I am fifty-two years old now."
He went on to explain that he had been mayor of the city for twelve years, had served on city council, and had been a teacher for sixteen! He then turned to me.
"David, I will be having you work closely with Flash Sentry in your endeavors this semester. If you can sit next to him?"
I nodded and sat next to Flash, who gave me a thumbs up. Mr. Leader changed the class around, before a new student entered the class. I had heard of her from Twilight. The girl was a gifted magician, and could, at points, be arrogant. She was also a friend to many, and quite the gossiper.
"Trixie apologizes. A sudden urge to use the bathroom hit me."
Mr. Leader accepted this, and Trixie sat next to me. I sincerely hoped she would be no distraction.
Thankfully, she was not. The day was an open discussion about each of our political beliefs. It was interesting. Fluttershy, for example, was a committed animal rights lover. Another student, named High Hopes, believed firmly in the idea of protectionism when it came to fair trade. It soon got to me.
Sensing that I was nervous, Mr. Leader encouraged me to take my time. To this point, I had a major of fear of public speaking. I was always the student to not raise his hand, praying that the ground would swallow me up before I could get my thoughts out.
That day was a different story.
"I firmly believe in the idea of helping one another. It is easy to say that charity can help, but sadly, greed ruins people. At least on Earth, things like unemployment benefits, healthcare reform, and Social Security helped people far more. I also do not believe in the idea of a strongman running a country- one with total rule. In my experience, that only leads to ruin."
"Doesn't the idea of one ruler mean society can become better more quickly?" a student asked me.
I shook my head. "It seems nice, but there comes the issue. A ruler like that could become too influenced with power. Take the idea of that ruler saying a church cannot speak of beliefs some would call racist rf homophobic. Yes, its disgusting, and I hate it. Put it like this though- is that right to destroy them for an opinion? Or is it better to ask them why they feel that way, and have an honest discussion?"
The class murmured at this, as Mr. Leader grinned.
"Anything else?"
"Also, French Toast needs to become the national breakfast" I said, filling the class with laughter.
As Lunch came after, I met up with Twilight as we walked, Sunset and Flash behind us. In a nearby corner, Aria watched with a smirk.
She knew.
