Having shared the wonderous news, it wasn't long before the girls of her family were with Kara to pick out a wedding dress/bride maid dresses, Dragan and Leo visiting for the wedding. Despite Kara's mother pestering her to have her make the dress Kara declined knowing the task would be too painful for her, knowing her hands were getting weaker with her age though appreciated her mother's offer.
She wasn't aware that three events would ruin her mood.
First one would be upon arrival, the owner of the shop greeting the group normally but immediately going to Sara, thinking she was the lucky lady to be getting married. When it was pointed out that it was Kara instead, the hesitation in her voice and doubt in her eyes soured Kara's mood, this not going unnoticed by any of them, but once Dragan and the others calmed her down, they immediately began browsing the dresses.
The second one was when Kara happened to glance at another patron in the store shopping not too far from them the bride already trying on a dress and showing off it as well as her beauty. Kara stared at her in awe, her slim figure, long hair, and flawless skin seeming to be glowing as she did a slow spin for her party, all of them clapping and exclaiming how beautiful she was. She happened to see her reflection in the mirror and pulled at her short hair then lowered her muscular, scarred arms then down to her body wearing a simple white t-shirt and jeans with sneakers. Staring at her calloused hands she gave it a clench before walking away, trying to shake the invading doubts from her mind unaware that Dragan was watching her, her brows lifting in worry.
The last one that set her off was that they weren't able to find a dress in her size that not only was comfortable but shaped her figure perfectly.
While her mom was getting irritated with the owner, wondering why it seemed they only had one size, Kara was attempting to try on her fourth dress Sara and April helping her out.
"I think..we...almost..got it...there!" April and Sara lifted the dress over her hips successfully til they all froze when they heard a rip. Their heads simultaneously lowered to her hips where they saw a large tear in the dress, "That's it. I'm done." Kara shoved their hands away and tried to pull the dress down only to rip it some more which caused her to yell out and tear the whole thing off, "Get out!" She yelled while gathering her clothes. When they left she sunk to her knees, tears gathering in her eyes. Was she not allowed to feel beautiful? Was she just too different from any other girl?
"Kara? Ye ok?" Dragan asked softly from behind the curtain but when she didn't respond she slowly moved it aside to see her best friend crying on the floor. Before she could ask what was wrong she saw the torn dress and put two and two together, remembering her look of envy from before and sat down next to her, "Ye don't hae tae look like other girls, ya know that, right?"
"Easy for you to say when you still have your feminine charm and natural beauty." She looked away with a sigh, "Today just made me realize how different I really am. I'm surrounded by beautiful women without a single scar on them...and look at me, I look like I'm in a gang." This got a laugh out of Dragan which made Kara narrow her eyes in annoyance but before she could say anything Dragan began to speak, "Ya know who you're marryin', right? The one who asked you? If thare's anyone who ye should know thinks you're beautiful its Donnie an we aw know how he feels about ye."
"She's right, you know." Sara said with a smile, standing in front of them. "He's head over heels for you."
"And you guys make a cute couple too. Almost like it was fate." April added in.
"You're beautiful in your own wye, Kara." Dragan said gently while wiping away her tears.
"And we wouldn't trade you the way you are for anything." Sara knelt in front of her with a tissue and cleaned her face off while having her blow her nose, smiling softly at her little sister, reminiscing their childhood.
This got a smile to come to Kara's face, more tears gathering in her eyes, "Thanks, guys, that means a lot to me."
"I say this place is a bust, too prude for my tastes. Let's go somew-honey? Kara, you ok?" Rachel's motherly instincts kicked in seeing her baby girl on the ground with tears in her eyes and saw the torn dress on the other side of the dressing room, "Oh, honey-"
"It's ok, mom, I'm fine." Kara stood up, dusting her legs off, "You know what, I will take up your offer to make my dress, mom...if it isn't too much a bur-"
"OH, SWEETIE, IT'S WHAT I ALWAYS WANTED!" Rachel was immediately hugging her youngest daughter, happy tears streaming down her face, "I already have a design in mind. Oh, I can't wait to show you." She ran off to go pay for the torn dress with a skip in her step while Kara got changed, "I don't know about you guys, but I'm starving."
"Heh, Murakami's?"
"Murakami's." Kara confirmed with a grin, all of them heading to the door idly chatting after she was dressed til they heard the owner's loud voice, she trailing behind Rachel with regret plastered on her face, "Ma'am, please, reconsider, I would not dream of refusing you and your companies time. Just you being here will bring much class to my store!"
Rachel turned around with a stern look on her face, "The way you treated my daughter upon arrival was unprofessional and I will see to it that THAT kind of behavior will not go unpunished. Have a good day, madame." She turned around before she could see the horror etched on the woman's face for insulting Rachel Sharper's daughter, the group walking out her shop with smiles on their faces.
