All characters from The Vampire Diaries belong to L.J. Smith as well as all characters from Twilight belong to Stephanie Meyer. I own nothing except my version of events.

A/N: Buckle in kitty cats shits about to go down in this chapter. Things will be unraveling as we reach some major story plots. I'm still planning on including scenes of levity to not make it so chaotic, taking into consideration that even though there's a clear werewolf issue, they all still have lives to lead.

Chapter 37 Chaos

The next morning I was up bright and early. I wasn't sure at what time breakfast was for Niklaus and he hadn't specified at what time exactly so I wanted to be ready by 7:00. I've actually been up since 5, I was so excited for today that my body woke me up without an alarm. I went for a quick run to get the wiggles out and then came back home to take a shower and get ready. I was putting on my converse when my phone rang.

It was an unknown number, I tended not to answer these fearing it was a telemarketer but I decided to answer it anyway.

"Hello?" I answered the call in question.

"Good Morning, Love." Niklaus' smooth accented voice came through the speaker.

I involuntarily smiled. "Good Morning… not that I'm not glad to hear from you but I'm curious to know how you got my number."

I heard his light chuckle over the phone. "I have my ways." He said cryptically.

I giggled at his response. "Ok, keeping it mysterious I see."

"I have to keep you interested in me somehow." I didn't know him well but I could tell he responded with a smile on his face.

"I can tell you now it won't take much." I admitted.

"Hmmm… so I realized I never told you the time for today. I hope I didn't wake you."

"You didn't. I was up early for a run today and I'm ready whenever you are."

"Great, I'll be there to pick you up soon."

"Can't wait." I said as I hung up the phone with a smile plastered on my face.

I grabbed my jacket out of the closet and slowly made my way downstairs, surprised to find Jeremy in the living room this early in the morning.

"Am I seeing things or are you really awake already?" I asked him, completely confused.

"Funny. I had a weird dream and couldn't go back to sleep." He said casually.

I frowned as I walked behind him on the couch and brushed his hair back. He leaned his head back on the couch and looked up at me. I could see the dark bags under his eyes.

"What's going on?" I asked him, seeing the look on his face I knew something was up.

He sighed, I could tell he didn't want to tell me but he also knew I wouldn't let up. "It's my hunter side coming out. I've been having the impulse to kill vampires again and I've been trying to fight it. I wasn't prepared for it. It's been pretty dormant for a while but I think having so many around me has taken its toll."

"Why the fuck didn't you tell me?!" I exclaimed.

"I didn't want to…"

"Shut up Jeremy." I commanded as I placed my fingers on his temples and closed my eyes, trying to figure out how to help him. When I felt his hunter side I pushed it back. It wasn't a solution but it would hold him off for a while, enough time for Jeremy to recover. "There you idiot, I fixed it temporarily but I'll have to figure out a more permanent solution later. I need you to tell me these things Jeremy, or else how the hell am I supposed to help you?"

He reached up and grabbed one of my hands. "I know, sorry. I'll let you know next time, ok?"

I was about to respond when the doorbell rang, alerting me to Niklaus' arrival. "Saved by the bell."

"Who's that?" Jeremy asked.

"Niklaus, he's picking me up and taking me to his house. I'll be back later. In the meantime try to get some rest, I'll check on you when I get home."

"Yes mother." He replied back rolling his eyes at me.

I turned away as I walked to the front door to open it. As always I was amazed at how gorgeous he was every time I saw him again.

"Good Morning, Love… again." He smiled, lifting only one side of his mouth.

"Good Morning again."

"Hello." Niklaus said, looking behind me.

I turned and realized Jeremy was standing behind me, his eye narrowed at Niklaus. I rolled my eyes at his stiff posture, I was not going to go through the brotherly death threats he was eager to spout this early in the morning.

"Niklaus, this is my brother Jeremy" I said gesturing to him, without missing Niklaus' surprised look on his face when I introduced Jeremy as my brother, "and Jeremy this is Niklaus."

"It's nice to meet you." Niklaus said politely as he extended his hand to greet him.

Jeremy looked at it and begrudgingly took his hand, grunting in agreeance.

I rolled my eyes again and said, "Okkkk Jer, it's too early for that. Go back to bed and I'll see you later." and before he could get out another word I pulled the door closed and grasped Niklaus' arm as I pulled him away. "Don't mind him. He's just acting tough, comes with the territory I guess."

"I thought you said you didn't have any siblings." Niklaus frowned down at me as he opened my door to his car. I got in and he walked to his side quickly to get into the drivers seat.

"Biologically no, but Jeremy and I were inseparable on my visits to Mystic Falls growing up. He's my little brother, blood related or not he's still my brother in every way that counts." It was true, I didn't need to be blood related to him or anyone else in my family to actually consider them my own. "He's actually Elena's brother but they don't get along nor speak to one another." I shrugged out.

"That's strange."

"Not really, Elena's a bitch and if you really met her you'd see why. I should probably warn you now that everyone you meet I consider my family, though I'm not related to any one of them. Well except for Caroline, she's my biological cousin and her mom, Sheriff Forbes is my Aunt. We're related through my dad's side."

"Will I meet them?" He asked as he grabbed onto my hand as he started to drive.

I smiled happily at him. "You want to meet them?"

He nodded at me with a small smile on his face.

"Then I'd love for you to meet them. I can also take you to La Push to meet my pack too, they can't wait to meet you."

He nodded again and lifted my hand up to his face to kiss the back of it. "I want to meet all of your family, Bella. If they're important to you then I want to meet them all."

"Well you're going to meet a lot of people soon then because I have a giant family. Good luck with remembering everyone." I teased.

"It's a good thing I have a good memory."

Just as he finished speaking he drove his car into a curved driveway, leaving it on the front door. He got out and made his way to my door to help me out.

"This is where you live?" I asked, raising my eyebrows to my hairline in surprise. "It's beautiful." It really was, it was two stories high with pillars around the front and I could see patios attached to the doors on the second floor. The front door was high, almost to the top and it was all made of glass.

He chuckled at my expression. "I'm glad you like it, I'm planning on building more rooms onto it. I specifically picked this property, it is a bit out of town and the land behind it is large. Want a tour before or after breakfast?"

"After, I'm hungry."

He chuckled as he saw me lay my hand on my flat stomach. He grabbed onto my hand and led me inside. The inside was more traditional than the outside but I liked it, it reminded me of the boarding house but there was more open space here. He led me to the kitchen and he already had a whole bunch of ingredients on the counter.

"I was trying to decide what to make for you but I didn't know what you liked so I chose to wait to ask you in person. I figured it was better to make you something you'd enjoy and not force you to eat something you don't." He admitted, rambling a little and looking shy about wanting to know.

But I smiled brightly at this new side of him, it was cute and endearing. He was trying and I appreciated that more than anything else.

"How about we stick to something simple like waffles, eggs and bacon… maybe some fruit too?"

He nodded at me and put away all the extra stuff, leaving out only the things he would need.

"Can I help with the fruit?" I asked, trying to keep myself busy so I wouldn't just stand there staring.

"Uh, sure." He said, looking like he wanted to say no but he must have seen the look on my face and let me help.

We made conversation as he cooked and I was surprised by how easy it all felt. I was also surprised he could actually cook, he didn't look like the kind of person who did things for himself… well other than killing people. I shook my head at that last thought, I needed to give him a chance and I promised him we would work on things together, plus I hadn't even seen an inkling of his dark side as of now so it wasn't something I had to worry about yet.

Once we sat down to eat I realized he was a really good cook, either that or breakfast was his specialty because it was delicious… he'd even made the whip cream for the waffles.

"I have to admit, I'm incredibly impressed." I said as I polished off my waffles.

He chuckled at me, "At which part?"

"All of it. I never thought you knew how to cook nor did I think it was going to be delicious. I was prepared to fake enjoying it but I'm happy I didn't have to." I teased him.

He laughed at my teasing and graciously accepted my compliment.

"Niklaus!" I heard someone yelling as the front door was slammed closed.

We both turned to look at the entrance of the dining room when Elijah burst through it. I noticed Niklaus' face harden immediately as he caught sight of Elijah, his smile disappearing in an instant.

"Yes, Dear Brother?" He asked in annoyance, meanwhile Elijah was looking from him to me and then to the table full of breakfast. I could tell he was surprised by the scene before him.

"Elijah." I greeted politely. "Nice to see you again... and looking better than the last time." I added, arching a brow at him.

He looked at me but his face was still clouded in surprise, completely confused at my presence here.

"It is polite to greet someone when you enter a home, unannounced may I add, brother." Niklaus said coldly.

Elijah blinked rapidly, trying to shake off the surprise in order to find his voice. "My apologies. It is good to see you again, Bella."

I simply nodded at his late greeting, what else was I supposed to say?

"To what do I owe this surprise visit?" Niklaus asked, letting him know with his tone that it was not welcomed.

"I came to…" He coughed uncomfortably as he forgot what he was here for. I'm not gonna lie, I was amused at his current predicament. "… you cooked?" Elijah blurted out finally. Out of everything I was surprised that was the first thing he asked.

"No, the elf that lives behind my home made us both breakfast." Niklaus deadpanned.

I giggled quietly next to him, covering my mouth to muffle the sound, this whole thing was so weird and Niklaus had just made a joke while looking at Elijah as though he could will him to disappear with just a look. He turned to look at me and I could see a lightness entering his eyes but once he turned away from me it disappeared as if it had never existed.

"What have you come here for, brother? As you can see I am quite busy."

Elijah opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out.

I inwardly rolled my eyes. "Have you eaten Elijah? Because you're more than welcome to join us." I smiled politely at him.

Both Niklaus and Elijah swiftly turned to look at me as if it were the craziest thing anyone had ever said. I refused to flinch at their stares and kept the smile on my face.

Finally Elijah found his voice. "No, thank you." He said to me as he shifted his eyes to Niklaus and quickly spoke. "I shall speak with you later." Disappearing right before our eyes.

Niklaus turned to look at me once again. "Did you just invite my brother for breakfast?" He asked incredulously.

"Uh, yeah... Why? Doesn't he eat?" I asked rhetorically. "By the way I could cut the tension with a knife. You guys need some serious family therapy or something… Anyway, come on." I said as I got up and began gathering our dishes. "Let's clean up. I'm ready for that tour you offered earlier."

He silently followed after me and we washed the dishes together. If he didn't get along with the only brother that was left undaggered, I could only imagine how much worse it was going to be with the ones who currently were. I wasn't really looking forward to that but if I wanted to get my mate to a good place I was going to have to help him fix it.

After some time he went back to his normal self and he showed me the rest of his house. He avoided his bedroom, which I wasn't quite sure why but I didn't necessarily mind. I was already having trouble keeping my hands off of him. I needed to get to know him better before we decided to take the next step. We weren't ready for that part of our relationship yet.

We finally ended up in his library and I loved it here, there was a domed ceiling with sunlight filtering inside. The room was filled with bookshelves full of books, surrounding me with their scent and peaceful atmosphere.

"I love this." I said as I twirled around in a circle under the light from the dome. "I want this in mine." I said looking up and lifting my hand under the ray of light seeing a rainbow of colors on the palm of my hand.

I expected Niklaus to say something but he didn't, I couldn't even hear him in the room. I turned to look for him in the last place I'd seen him and realized he was casually leaning on a pillar, looking at me with an intensity I'd never experienced before. I tilted my head to the side and smiled at him as I extended my hand for him to come to me.

He stood up straight and walked up to me, brushing my hair back behind my ear and leaving his hand there cupping the side of my face. I blinked up at him as I placed my hands on his waist, we were silently standing together and I closed my eyes and titled my head into his hand as he started to caress my cheekbone with his thumb.

"I have waited so long for you." He admitted quietly, I opened my eyes as I heard him speak. "I had almost given up, thinking I had lost my soul and lost you as a result. Because how could a man without a soul ever find his soulmate? I silently mourned you… without even having met you." A shadow of heartbreak crossed his features as he spoke, then suddenly his face turned to complete awe and wonder. "But now that you're here… now that I've found you, it feels as if fate has given me another chance. You are everything I never thought I could deserve… but I want to deserve your love, Bella. I want to find happiness with you. I want everything I had lost faith in ever having for so long. I want to be worthy of you and to make a life with you."

His words spoke deeply into my soul, I could feel them surrounding me, enveloping me in a love that I had never experienced before. I had an idea of what having a soulmate would be like but nothing in my mind could have compared to this. A tear fell from my eye as I felt his love and devotion.

He leaned down and kissed my tear away, then slowly went further to place a soft kiss on my lips.

I was ready to deepen the kiss when I suddenly felt like the air in my lungs was punched out of me. I stumbled back trying to catch my breath.

"Bella?" Klaus asked in a panic.

"Somethings wrong." I gasped out as I ran to the living room going straight for my purse. I pulled out my phone and found Felix's face appearing with his incoming phone call. I quickly answered.

"Bella!" He yelled as I heard him struggling.

"Felix! What's wrong?!" I asked in a panic.

"We were ambushed! Master Marcus was coming to surprise you with a visit and… Shit!" I heard him yell out as I heard a loud collision.

"Felix!" I yelled but the phone went dead in my hand and I heard nothing more. "Fuck!" I yelled, holding onto my head trying to figure out what to do.

"Bella, what is it?" Klaus desperately asked trying to get my attention.

"I have to go, I have to find them, I have to…" but I trailed off not knowing what I had to do.

"Bella!" Klaus screamed out as he took hold of my wrists and brought them down so he could see my face. "Focus, Angel. What do you have to do?" He asked firmly, staring deep into my eyes.

Finding his eyes I felt a semblance of calm and I desperately grasped onto it to center my mind. I released a long breath as I came back to the present. "I have to… find them… I can feel the pull. I just have to focus." I closed my eyes then and felt the tugging, they were far but in the state of Virginia. "I found them."

"Then let's go."

"Klaus…" I started to say but he shook his head at me.

"No Bella. Wherever you go, I go." He said, leaving no room to argue.

We were running out of time so I nodded at him and teleported us to where Felix and Marcus were.

The scene before me was complete chaos. There were naked men and werewolves fighting against the Volturi guard. Body parts of cold ones strewn all over the ground interspersed with pools of blood on the ground. I turned my head and saw one of the most terrifying things I have ever seen in my life play out before my eyes. Both Marcus and Felix were on their knees as naked men were holding them down, there was a man standing behind Felix ready to rip his head off his body.

"Felix!" I yelled out as I lifted my hand up and blew the men holding them back.

Their attackers went flying back and transformed into wolves mid-flight. Holy shit, was my last thought as I immediately placed as many naked men and wolves as I could in bubbles but there were too many of them and I knew we'd have to fight the rest left behind.

"I can't hold them all. We're gonna need to fight the rest."

They all nodded at me and the rest of Marcus' guard who were still intact joined us to face our enemies. I left one shield free to wrap around me so I could fight just in case my magic wasn't enough and ran forward, everyone following behind me. It was all chaos once again as blood and fur went flying everywhere as Niklaus ripped off the heads of those who opposed him, he was fast, so fast I could barely see him. I refocused my eyes on the wolves currently eyeing me with hunger, thinking I was no match for them, I could see the anticipation in their eyes as they imagined tearing through my flesh. I smiled wickedly at them as I jumped on the one closest to me and smashed his head in, moving to the next one and doing the same. The ones further back seeing I was deceptively dangerous changed their tactics and tried to attack me all at once, but my shield prevented them from coming near and they flew back as they tried to take a bite out of me.

Suddenly there was thunder heard and the sky lit up with a strike of blue, hitting the few men left still in wolf form instantly transforming back to humans as they fell to the ground while the men in human form fell to their knees as if the air was taken out of their bodies.

"What happened?" Marcus asked me. Looking around him bewildered, actually we all were. They looked completely depleted of energy and I released the ones I had placed in bubbles.

I walked towards the man lying nearest to me but Niklaus took hold of my hand, pulling me back. "Bella." He said, warning me not to continue with my movements.

I shook my head and pulled away from him. "I have to figure out what's going on Niklaus." I said turning to look at him. "I'll be fine, I promise."

He begrudgingly nodded but followed close behind me as I bent down, placing my hands on the man's head. I delved deep into his mind and dug around, trying to find what the hell was up with them. I found a wisp of a memory and hung on to it, not really knowing what I was going to do but relying on my instincts. I tapped into the memory and it was played out in my mind like a scene in a movie. Some people's faces were blurry and none I recognized except two... two faces I never expected to see.

I gasped when I came to and Niklaus pulled me up from the ground and held me in his arms. "What is it?"

"The ones in wolf form were werewolves, a group of witches gave them temporary power to shift into wolves without the full moon."

Niklaus frowned down at me. "That's impossible."

"Well it's possible now. The ones in man form are shapeshifters, they were being controlled by the same witches. We need to detain the werewolves, they are part of the pack with the leader who killed Didyme." I said looking at Marcus, a pain like no other crossing his features. "They were planning to kill your guard and take you hostage to take you back to their leader. They were going to use you as leverage to get Aro and Caius to accept defeat before the war could even start."

Marcus remained silent as he heard my words

"But how did they know where we were?" Felix asked.

I frowned at his question. "Jane and Alec."

Marcus and Felix's eyes widened.

I narrowed my eyes at the action. "Did you forget to tell me something?" I asked them in a hard voice.

They turned to look at each other in worry but I wouldn't let them get out of this without an answer.

"A couple of weeks ago Jane and Alec disappeared, we thought they had left in a tantrum to gain our attention because Aro had threatened to remove their positions in the guard. We never thought they would join our enemies, Aro will be greatly disappointed. I'm sorry Little One, we were planning on informing you of the latest developments on our visit but I see now that was a stupid thing to do." He admitted.

"Really stupid." I said angrily. "I told you all to keep me updated on everything going on in Volterra, everything, including the small and insignificant." I was furious but I was trying to keep my anger and emotions in control, I didn't want to repeat what had happened last time in Volterra with Damon. I needed to stay focused, so instead I reached to my side to grasp onto Niklaus' hand trying to focus on his presence near me to push away all other negative thoughts.

Marcus didn't miss the action and appraised my mate for the very first time, realizing someone unknown was here.

"I am Marcus Volturi. You must be Niklaus, I was hoping to meet you on my visit… under different circumstances."

I rolled my eyes at his words. No shit.

They all ignored me and Niklaus extended his hand to greet him. "Volturi. I have met the one you call Caius, however, it was very long ago."

I lifted an eyebrow at that comment, huh, I was sure to ask about that later.

"Ok, you guys continue with the pleasantries as I stand here trying to figure out how to fix your mistake." I shook my head trying to get rid of the anger in my voice. "I'm gonna go get Sam and see if he can speak with the shapeshifters once they gain consciousness." I finally said, not waiting for a reply as I teleported to Paul's house.

"Fuck!" He exclaimed, dropping the hammer he was holding. "Bella, What the..." but I didn't let him finish.

"We gotta go get Sam. Something's happened and I need you guys with me, I'll explain when we reach him."

"Bella…" He tried to say but I cut him off again.

"We don't have time." I said but Paul didn't listen and pulled me into his arms.

"Breathe Bella. You can explain later but I need you to calm down first and then we can do whatever you want." He said as he brushed my hair with his fingers.

I wanted to argue but knew I would get worse if I didn't get my emotions under control so I released a breath and let Paul's scent soothe my inner turmoil.

"I'm sorry." I finally said, after some time.

"S'okay. I'm always here." We stayed quiet in each other's embrace and after a few minutes I finally felt calm and in control of myself again. "God job Bella, now let's go get Sam." He said, not letting go of me.

I nodded, silently thanking him for his unyielding support by squeezing him tightly for a second, he responded in kind and I teleported to Sam's.
