Chapter Text
Harry got to know the men in the car on the way back to the Navy Yard. They decided to play a couple games of ISpy and a game of twenty questions. Harry really liked what Dan did for a job within the Marines. Dan is a counterintelligence specialist. He talked about some of the things he does on a daily basis and the training and schooling he needed to achieve an intelligence role in the corps.
Julius talked about his position in logistics of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF). He also served two tours overseas in Afghanistan and Iran in the past. His father also served in the Marines and was active during World War II like Jackson and LJ. He talked about how he went to school for a masters in terrorism and homeland security from American University in Washington D.C. which is apparently ranked number one for that masters program.
Tom talked about his past a bit being a former Rear Admiral in the U.S. Navy. He talked about how that helped him in his job because he has friends in JAG which are the judges that NIS often used to prosecute or defend cases. Tom talked about how he became the director and some of his friends from other agencies as well.
Harry talked about his favorite subjects from primary school and how he liked football, or as they called it here soccer. He talked about how he wanted to play as a child but his relative did not let him but he got to hear about it and loves the team Liverpool. His roommate at school Dean likes West Ham so they get into long discussions about it sometimes.
They pulled into the parking garage for the NIS offices after a while. Harry had fallen asleep in the car so Julius decided to just carry him. He adjusted Harry into his hip and grabbed one of the backpacks while Tom took the other. They went to the guards who would check the marines and give them guest passes. Tom then brought them up to his office. They passed Cynthia on their way in where she looked at him questioningly. He had called saying that he would not likely be in the office today and then came back with two marines and a child.
"There are going to be four more people coming up to join us. I let security know. It is an older gentleman, another marine, Ducky and a little girl a few years younger than this one here." Tom said, pointing to the asleep Harry.
"Okay sit. Do you want anything brought up?" Cynthia asked.
"Just some coffee for right now, we will get the kids something to eat when Harry is awake. Thank you, hold my calls for the rest of the day still." Tom said, showing Julius into his office and pointing to the couch where he could put Harry down if he wanted to. Julius went over and put the little boy down, moving the hair off his forehead seeing the strange scar again.
They waited, making small talk until everyone else joined them. Kelly was awake so they set her up with some colored pens and some blank paper so she could draw. Cynthia came in later with a my little pony coloring book and some colored pencils. She also had a coloring book with different types of cars and animals for Harry when he woke up.
"Okay so I am going to need to bring the backpacks down after we ask Harry to get his stuff out because that is not part of the crime scene and I think that it is all that he has with him. Then I need to meet with the agent in charge of the case, a man named Mike Franks. He will want to talk to the kids but I do not have parent or guardian permission yet so he can hold off. You will each end up being interviewed on how you came to be involved." Tom said, laying out the facts as he saw them. They were not allowed to question a minor without parent or guardian representation so they were stuck there.
Tom left to go talk to Mike and get any updates on the case while the others sat around chatting. Ducky went back down to autopsy to see about the bodies that he had, including one Shannon Gibbs. He joined his assistant in starting the autopsy on the agent first.
"Agent Franks, grab your team and meet me in the conference room" Tom said from the top of the mezzanine. He saw Franks look up and gather his team. They met in the conference room near MTAC where Tom sat with the files the doctors had given him with pictures, and the health reports with sensitive information redacted.
"Director, what can we do for you." Franks said, sitting down across from Tom while his team took some other seats around the table.
"This morning I got a call from the marine base letting me know they needed me to help with a situation along with our medical examiner Dr. Mallard. We arrived in a town called Stillwater Pennsylvania where Jackson Gibbs along with some marines had a surprise. A young boy witnesses the car accident that Agent Kurt Mitchell, Shannon Gibbs and Kelly Gibbs were in. When he saw that it was safe he made his way to the car where he found Agent Mitchell and Shannon had not made it but young Kelly was still alive. He got her out of the car, taking supplies he needed and together they made their way to Kelly's grandfather Jackson Gibbs in Stillwater." Tom explained the basics. The team was looking at him very closely now. "We had the kids checked at the hospital this morning and brought them back here but until we have parental or guardian permission we cannot officially get their statements." He said sending a pointed look at Franks, who was known for cutting corners to complete cases.
"So Kelly is safe and here? We have been looking for her everywhere. We found another family that was in the hotel but that lead to more questions than answers. I have had agents searching the woods for two days." Franks said.
"Yes Kelly and her grandpa Jackson, Harry and three marines are up in my office. We are going to work on getting in contact with Harry's relatives if we can. Harry also told me that it was him that took the backpacks and Agent Mitchell's wallet so that they could escape. I have it bagged in my office for evidence so we can rule out his finger prints. Read the medical reports here and then when Harry wakes up I will call you up to meet them and get the evidence." Tom said. He gave them the copies of the medical reports that were somewhat redacted as the personal information of a minor was not shared.
Harry woke up half an hour later and after a quick trip to the bathroom with Julius he joined Kelly in coloring. This is something he always liked in primary school when he was allowed to color. They got some sandwiches brought in where they snacked until it was time to talk again. Tom allowed Harry to take his valuables out of the backpacks and gave him an NIS duffle bag to put them in, not knowing that he only had a few things. He grabbed his cloak and put his wand inside of it, then grabbed the couple shirts and pair of pants he brought. He grabbed the photo album he brought as well of his family and put it into the duffle bag, paying to look at his parents picture on the front. It was a non-magical picture so it did not move in case others saw it out of the world. Hagrid had told him that the album had an enchantment on it that anybody without magic would only see regular pictures but he never tested the theory.
Mike Franks and his team came up to meet everyone and then one by one started to take the marines and then Jackson out to interview them. They needed recorded evidence of how everyone came to be involved with the case and the group. Harry and Kelly stayed in Tom's office where it was decided that they would stay in protective custody until the case was resolved. They were going to be staying with the director himself tonight and possibly in the future. The marines would be staying as well to help with protection because they were involved and volunteered. Each one had enjoyed getting to know the kids and wanted to help.
